- The Master Possessed An Innate Charm, Irresistibly Seducing His Young Disciple
- Chapter 12 - Rumors of the Ghost Village
“No, Master, do not look.”
The moment Li Sichen regained his senses, his first instinct was to reach out and cover Yu Huaixin’s eyes to shield him from the gruesome scene. Li Sichen remembered that Yu Huaixin had once been treated this way, perhaps even worse. He refused to let such trauma come anywhere near Yu Huaixin again.
Looking at the technique, however, it certainly seemed like the typical handiwork of the Demon Race.
With his vision blocked by Li Sichen’s hand, Yu Huaixin’s lips curved into a gentle smile. He offered soft comfort, “Xiao Chen, your Master is not afraid. Let go first.”
“It really is not pleasant to look at. Master, please do not look,” Li Sichen insisted firmly, refusing to back down.
Yu Huaixin did not push further. “I only thought that if Xiao Chen keeps his hand raised like this, he will get tired.”
“I am not tired.”
Li Sichen had endured horse stances, carrying water buckets, and all sorts of hardships. How could raising his hand for a moment be tiring?
“You child,” Yu Huaixin finally could not win against him and succumbed with a helpless sigh.
At that moment, a disciple performing the autopsy came forward to report: “Judging by the time the immortal veins withered, these two junior brothers likely perished during the Hour of the Pig between 9 PM and 11 PM last night.”
Li Sichen tuned out the rest of the words. The only thing he remembered was that at that exact time, he had seen Yu Huaixin approaching under the moonlight, causing thousands of flowers to bloom in an instant. That night, Yu Huaixin’s stunning face had worn a slightly tipsy smile, and his slender fingers had gently brushed Li Sichen’s cheek before lingering near his neck.
“Before the Hour of the Pig, they were tortured for a full ten hours. Finally, their necks were snapped, ending their lives.”
Suddenly, Li Sichen felt a chill at his neck. He realized Yu Huaixin had moved very close to him. A sweet, fresh breath blew softly against his skin. The tension Li Sichen felt was instantly replaced by a wave of heat. The tips of his ears turned a deep red, as if brushed with rouge.
Blocked from seeing the scene, Yu Huaixin did not know what was happening. He continued to lean in tentatively, asking with concern, “Disciple, your hand is trembling. Are you afraid? Do not be, Master is here.”
“I am not afraid!”
“Good, Xiao Chen is not afraid.”
After a consultation among the elders, it was decided to properly shroud and bury the two bodies. Since they had not yet been officially ranked among the immortals, they could only be buried like ordinary people. As for the culprit, given the brutal methods, everyone agreed without objection that it was the work of the Demon Race.
Before their departure, the Sect Leader warned everyone to act with extreme caution. If they encountered a powerful demon, they were to call for reinforcements from the immortal gate and must not face it alone to avoid further tragedy.
On the square, Li Sichen scanned his surroundings but could not find that familiar figure. He could not help but feel a sense of loss. He had originally prepared himself to face the human realm trials alone, but Yu Huaixin had promised to accompany him. Now that it was time to leave, Yu Huaixin had broken his word.
The team was already set to depart. Li Sichen certainly would not go running off specifically to find Yu Huaixin just to have him come along. If he did that, he really would be no different from a small child.
His four companions were all top disciples of the sect elders. Li Sichen, following Yu Huaixin’s lineage, was a sword cultivator. Among the other four, two were technique cultivators, one was a medical cultivator, and one was a musical cultivator. Judging by their temperaments, their cultivation levels seemed high. They were reliable teammates.
In the past, Li Sichen had been skilled at disguising his true nature, so his interpersonal relationships across Moxiang Peak were quite good. As the five of them walked together, the others would occasionally strike up a conversation with him.
When the discussion turned to the difficulties of this trial, everyone’s expressions turned grave.
“Our luck is just too poor. I never thought we would draw such an unlucky mission. Forget whether we can complete it; I am afraid I will lose my life in the process.”
The speaker was a youth dressed in purple with a high ponytail. He looked very young and had a carefree personality. He studied under Elder Lan You and was a medical cultivator.
Li Sichen recalled his memories. This person was named Pei Ziqing. Back when Yu Huaixin was being insulted by the entire immortal gate, Pei Ziqing had not been driven by greed. Instead, he had stayed behind closed doors at the residence of his master, Immortal Lan You. He had not appeared in Li Sichen’s sight after that, so Li Sichen did not know what his ultimate fate had been. Because this person had never harmed Yu Huaixin, Li Sichen was willing to chat with him.
“Is this mission very difficult?”
Pei Ziqing looked at Li Sichen with total shock, his expression wildly exaggerated.
“Of course it is hard! Luofu Village! Do you not know about Luofu Village? The famous Ghost Village! Do you know how many people have died there? Even for us immortal cultivators, I have never heard of anyone coming out alive once they step inside! You tell me if that is hard!”
Seeing Pei Ziqing’s reaction, it seemed there was no precedent for disciples drawing such a mission. Li Sichen had a faint suspicion. Previously, to protect Yu Huaixin, he had used Gu Fuyin’s secret to blackmail him. This trouble was likely an intentional arrangement by Gu Fuyin.
In that case, his own actions had brought this trouble upon his four companions. But things were already as they were. If they were implicated, so be it. Ultimately, it was all Gu Fuyin’s fault.
“What exactly is this Luofu Village? Why have I never heard of it? Is it full of ghosts?”
“Come here!” Without warning, Li Sichen was pulled by the arm by Pei Ziqing.
The two walked quickly, talking as they went, gradually leaving the other three behind. The others were busy with their own topics and ignored them.
“I say, have you been sleeping in your own nest for too many years? You do not know Luofu Village?”
Li Sichen did not argue. Since he truly did not know, he did not mind appearing a bit foolish because information was more important.
According to Pei Ziqing, Li Sichen began to understand the gist of it. Luofu Village was originally an ordinary small village in the human realm. About three years ago, murders began to occur. Before long, every living soul in the village was dead.
Rumor had it that ghosts were at work. Many immortal disciples went to capture the spirits, but once they entered, they never returned. The local government spent considerable resources to seal the village, forbidding entry. Yet even then, those living nearby were not spared. People often went missing mysteriously, and their bodies were invariably found inside Luofu Village.
Seeing that things were spiraling out of control, the local government sought help from the immortals of Moxiang Peak to investigate the cause of the deaths and eliminate the evil spirits. Under normal circumstances, a case this large would not fall to juniors like them.
But since it had come to this, Li Sichen secretly cheered himself on. No matter what, he had a System, which counted as a bit of a cheat code. It should not be too hard to complete this mission and stay alive, right?
