- Chapter 2 - Amnesia: I Seem to Be Very Poor
In the midst of an anxious and excessively “silent” situation, time trickled by at a heart-wrenching, agonizingly slow pace. Seeing that the condition of the woman in her arms was worsening, Jiang Tan began to feel a sense of urgency.
She wanted to go out and check if those people had left, but if she moved, her pheromones would no longer act as a barrier to block this woman’s leaking scent. The moment she stepped away, the woman’s pheromones would likely spread through the entire building, which would undoubtedly alarm the residents.
Jiang Tan gritted her teeth. The emergency left her no room to find a more perfect solution. She whispered a low “sorry,” set the woman down so she could barely stand on her own, and reached her hand toward the woman’s neck, touching the swollen, feverish gland.
Taking a deep breath, Jiang Tan lowered her head and pressed her canines against the fragile, engorged gland. Following the knowledge she had studied during this period, she hardened her heart, bit through it, and injected her own pheromones inside.
She quickly gave the woman a temporary shallow mark, using her own pheromones to barely suppress the woman’s scent so it wouldn’t leak excessively. After that, she gave her instructions rapidly.
“I’m going out to check the situation. You stay here for a bit; I’ll be back soon.” Having finished her instructions, Jiang Tan gave a final lick to her lips, which seemed to still carry the residue of the woman’s pheromones. Steeling her heart, she quickly opened the door and went out.
After being scorched by flames for so long, the body suddenly welcomed a sweet spring that brought relief to every limb. However, that spring was far too stingy; it gave her a moment’s respite, only for her to be consumed once again by that scorching desire.
With the source of that sweet spring gone, Jiang Shuyue had already forgotten the resentment of being marked. In the next second, her heart was enveloped by an extreme, hollow ache, and she nearly lost her footing.
Jiang Tan straightened her delivery uniform, ensuring that any of the woman’s pheromones on her person were covered up. Only then did she open the door of the self-built house and step out, leaving a tiny crack, not daring to close it completely.
After all, she didn’t have a key, and she feared the woman wouldn’t be able to come and open the door for her later.
She took out her phone and looked down at it, pretending she had just finished a delivery as she walked toward her parking spot, while her ears remained alert to her surroundings.
The people had clearly finished searching this area, yet Jiang Tan still encountered them once she returned to her vehicle.
“Hey, have you seen a woman?” a man in a black suit shouted.
Jiang Tan looked up as if startled, watching them with a hint of wariness. “No, I’m in a hurry to pick up an order.”
The man looked at her delivery uniform and glanced at her phone screen, which indeed showed a food delivery platform interface. Seeing this, he said nothing more.
Jiang Tan pretended to be calm as she started her bike. She vaguely heard the movement of the man returning to speak with the others. Listening to those exasperated, frustrated voices, Jiang Tan twisted the throttle and drove away.
Avoiding their line of sight, she drove the bike back to the previous self-built house. Fortunately, the woman inside hadn’t been discovered. However, when she pushed open the bathroom door, it was clear the other woman was nearly at her limit. Jiang Tan hurriedly scooped her up in a horizontal carry and rushed to her bike. Fearing the woman might fall off due to lack of strength if placed in the back, she had no choice but to place her in front while she sat behind, stretching her arms out to steer.
Although there weren’t many surveillance cameras in this area, Jiang Tan—driven by a vague caution—still steered clear of any cameras. She twisted the throttle to the max with the desperate energy of someone about to be late for a delivery, speeding all the way back to an old residential area in the Old Town.
This area looked as if it had been abandoned by the city. Every surrounding building was at least thirty years old, with dilapidated exterior walls. Aside from some elderly people and those who were truly broke, there were almost no young people; most had already moved to the newly developed area.
Jiang Tan parked the bike. Perhaps sensing she was temporarily safe, the woman had closed her eyes and fainted. However, while carrying her, Jiang Tan discovered her body was burning hot; clearly, her condition was still far from optimistic.
She looked up at the old building. Now, the only light in the entire structure was a single, sickly pale bulb at the stairwell entrance.
Most importantly: this was a walk-up building!
Jiang Tan sucked in a breath of cold air but resigned herself to her fate. She hoisted the unconscious woman onto her back and stepped onto the stairs.
The sensor lights in this building were temperamental, lighting up only occasionally. Fortunately, Jiang Tan was already very familiar with the environment, so climbing wasn’t an issue. However, carrying a person up to the seventh floor was a challenge; even with the superior physical constitution of an Alpha, Jiang Tan was gasping for air by the time she reached the top.
There was no helping it; she was dead broke and could only afford the top floor of such an old residential area.
She opened the door to a two-bedroom, one-living-room layout. Originally, Jiang Tan had a roommate, but after their lease ended and they moved out, Jiang Tan was the only one left. She placed the woman on the solid wood sofa in the living room. Though she knew lying on the hard surface must be uncomfortable, Jiang Tan couldn’t worry about that now.
After setting her down, she gasped for air. Without resting for a second, she headed back out and downstairs. She found a 24-hour pharmacy and, gritting her teeth against the cost, bought two doses of potent Omega suppressants before rushing back without pause.
When she returned home, the woman was still lying on the wooden sofa. However, her condition was visibly worse than when she had left. All of her exposed skin was flushed with a layer of crimson, and the pheromones that had been suppressed by the shallow mark were erupting once more.
Jiang Tan rushed forward to restrain the woman’s hands, which were unconsciously stroking and tugging at herself. She helped straighten the woman’s disheveled collar and frantically checked the instructions for the potent suppressant.
The excessive amount of Omega pheromones intensely stimulated Jiang Tan’s Alpha instincts. She struggled to control her trembling hands as she helped inject the suppressant, then hurried into the bathroom to get water.
She brought cold water to wipe down the woman’s exposed skin. Though she was exhausted, she didn’t dare relax her mind. Since she had brought the person back, she naturally had to take responsibility; she couldn’t allow herself to lose her reason and pounce on her. Otherwise, how would this be any different from taking advantage of her in this state?
As the suppressant was injected, the woman’s condition visibly improved slightly. Seeing this, Jiang Tan breathed a small sigh of relief. She went to her room to grab a blanket to cover the woman, and only then did she force her exhausted body to go take a shower.
Heavens, it was already past one in the morning. By the time she finished showering and tidying up, it would probably be two. She had work to do tomorrow!
Jiang Tan felt a bit of a mental breakdown. She sped up her shower, but when she came out wearing her pajamas, she realized something was wrong.
Why were the pheromones that had calmed down earlier surging back again?!
Jiang Tan’s frustration peaked. She rushed to the living room to find the woman on the sofa writhing. The blanket that had been covering her had fallen to the floor, and the clothes she had just straightened were messy again, revealing the thin black lace underwear beneath.
Jiang Tan’s head exploded with a bang. Flustered, she stepped forward to cover her with the blanket again. Seeing the woman’s flushed face, she had no choice but to inject the second dose of the potent suppressant.
“Was I scammed?!” Jiang Tan roared internally. “They said it was potent, but this isn’t potent at all!”
She wiped the woman down with cold water trip after trip to help her cool down. Clearly, whatever had been added to the drink she consumed was extremely powerful; otherwise, it wouldn’t be like this.
Since they couldn’t go to the hospital and Jiang Tan didn’t know any doctors, she had done everything she could. Ultimately, the woman’s fate depended on her own constitution.
Looking at how uncomfortable the woman appeared lying on the wooden sofa, Jiang Tan finally sighed lightly. She helped remove the woman’s suit jacket, and after some thought, went to get a pair of pajama pants. She closed her eyes as she helped the woman out of her suit trousers, only opening them for a split second to ensure she didn’t put the pajama pants on wrong before quickly pulling them up.
Having done all this, Jiang Tan carried her back to her own bedroom. After placing her on the bed, Jiang Tan sat on the foam mats on the floor, resting her upper body on the bed to sleep. This way, she could better monitor the woman’s condition.
Jiang Tan let out a yawn, leaned against the bedside, and finally fell fast asleep from exhaustion.
She was truly too tired today.
After she fell asleep, without her conscious mind to control them, Jiang Tan’s pheromones began to slowly drift out as if responding to the Omega pheromones in the air. They met, intertwined, and merged with the Omega’s scent, brewing a sweeter and more complex fragrance.
…
Jiang Tan’s work alarm rang piercingly in the early morning. She woke up instantly and quickly turned off the alarm before looking at the woman on the bed.
After a night of turmoil, the woman was much quieter now. Aside from her face still being slightly flushed, she was no longer out of control as she had been last night, nor had she been startled awake by the alarm.
Seeing this, Jiang Tan felt relieved. However, checking the time, she still crept out to quickly wash up. She made two simple breakfasts, wolfed down her own portion, changed into her work clothes, found a pen and paper to leave a note by the breakfast, and headed out.
There was no choice; the original owner was also a pauper. After Jiang Tan transmigrated, the bank balance was only 500. After paying rent, nothing was left. If she wanted to survive, she had to work herself to the bone.
The only upside was that the original owner hadn’t left behind any debts.
Jiang Tan thought to herself, finding humor in the hardship.
Not long after she left, the beautiful woman on the bed frowned and then slowly opened her eyes.
Those bright black eyes were filled with confusion. She raised a hand to pat her throbbing head, looking at everything before her with no sense of familiarity.
Her gaze slowly swept across the room. The small room contained only a bed and a wardrobe. Opposite the bed was a small table. The overall appearance was not just simple; there were even mold stains in a corner of the ceiling where water had seeped in.
The woman blinked softly.
I seem to be very poor.
