The Mad Beauty and the Sick Young Lady [Transmigration Novel] - Chapter 30
Jia Sihan was outside the nanny van, looking one moment at the other side of the film set, and the next at the van. She just happened to miss the moment Chen Ying got onto the vehicle.
It wasn’t until she heard a loud thud that Jia Sihan turned her head back and was shocked to see Chen Ying lying on the ground.
She sprinted over and rushed to help Chen Ying up. But for all her attempts to “help,” she wasn’t using any force, instead, she seemed to be pushing and pulling, which looked more like she was holding Chen Ying down to prevent her from getting up.
At the same time, Jia Sihan shouted at the top of her lungs towards the far side of the set:
“Oh dear! Miss Chen, what’s wrong? Did you lose your footing and fall? You must be so clumsy! Director! Director! Hurry, send someone to take Miss Chen to the hospital for a thorough check-up!”
Her shout caused everyone on the set to look over. The group with CEO Lu immediately ran towards them, followed by the sweating director and producer.
Chen Ying had probably sprained her ankle; sweat beaded on her forehead from the pain, and she had no time to worry about what Jia Sihan had just shouted. She was quickly and carefully carried away by the managers and bodyguards around CEO Lu.
Jia Sihan followed behind, feigning concern all the way. In front of the ambulance, she apologized to the director with great emotion:
“I’m so sorry, Director! It’s all our fault for parking the nanny van there; maybe Miss Chen accidentally bumped into it. We’ve affected the work of our crew, I’m terribly sorry. We’ll be sure to park the car farther away next time!”
The director didn’t know Chen Ying had fallen off the car, and with Chen Ying already gone in the ambulance, he had to believe Jia Sihan’s explanation. He mumbled:
“Isn’t Miss Chen a top-tier A? How could she be so careless… It’s fine, Old Jia, this has nothing to do with you; it’s just an accident. Don’t blame yourself too much.”
After her performance, Jia Sihan managed to pacify the director’s side. She hurried back to the nanny van, knocked on the door, and as soon as Jiang Zhuoye opened a crack, she rushed inside.
Jiang Zhuoye was sitting on the small sofa, her head resting on Su Li’s shoulder, eyes closed in rest.
Jia Sihan lowered her voice:
“What happened? How did Chen Ying fall like that?”
Jiang Zhuoye acted as if she hadn’t heard and remained silent. It was Su Li who seriously explained:
“She lost her footing herself. She was trying to slap us and slipped off the car.”
Jia Sihan understood the situation. Since she couldn’t do anything about it, she could only caution the two of them to be wary of Chen Ying’s retaliation recently before quickly leaving.
This incident on the film set would undoubtedly spread across the entire internet immediately, and Jia Sihan knew she would have to work overtime with the public relations department.
Before getting out of the car, Jia Sihan looked back, sighing with a mixture of anger and disappointment:
“Oh, you! If you had just opened the door and let her in back then, none of this would have happened.”
Jiang Zhuoye suddenly opened her eyes:
“What does it have to do with me? She was always trying to get with me. Should I have just offered myself up to her?”
Jia Sihan’s eyes widened. After a moment of shock, she angrily threw her arms out:
“Why have you never told me that she started harassing you back at Huanxu? Why didn’t you tell me?!”
Jiang Zhuoye coldly scoffed:
“Would telling you have helped? You were just a small employee back then; could you have prevailed against the CEO’s daughter? Besides, if you had known about this, your future career would have been cut off by the Chen family. How could I dare tell you?”
Jia Sihan lowered her head. Su Li watched from the side and felt a pang of sadness. Jia Sihan was very capable and clearly genuinely cared for Jiang Zhuoye, but what she could do was indeed limited.
A silence fell over the small van. Su Li softly said:
“Don’t quarrel…”
Jiang Zhuoye immediately turned her head, gently comforting Su Li:
“It’s alright, we’re not quarreling.”
Jia Sihan gave a small “Mmm” and was about to leave, head bowed. Her hand was already on the door handle when she suddenly turned back and said sincerely:
“I’m sorry, Ah Ye, I really am sorry. I didn’t protect you. But I will try harder in the future.”
Su Li smiled, deeply moved, and nodded at Jia Sihan. She then reached up and affectionately patted the back of Jiang Zhuoye’s head:
“Don’t quarrel.”
Jiang Zhuoye stiffly turned her neck to face Jia Sihan and awkwardly uttered:
“It’s fine.”
Jia Sihan got out and left. Su Li watched the closed door, lost in thought.
Jiang Zhuoye turned to look at Su Li, her eyes radiating tenderness that could almost squeeze out water.
She softly asked:
“Why did you try to shield me just now? Weren’t you afraid of being hit?”
Su Li shook her head:
“No. You still have filming to do, and your face absolutely cannot be damaged. I couldn’t react in time to help you much, so I could only use myself to block her.”
Jiang Zhuoye’s face was expressionless, but her eyes held a profound, complicated emotion, like a flowing tide in the dark night. She stared at Su Li for a long time, as if trying to discern her true intentions.
Su Li felt a little uncomfortable under her gaze, so she turned her head away to look elsewhere. Suddenly remembering something, she pulled out her phone and checked the time:
“It’s already midnight! I should head home!”
Su Li stood up, looking at Jiang Zhuoye with a conflicted expression, and quietly asked:
“You… probably don’t have time to take me home now, do you? I’ll hail a cab myself. You stay here and rest well.”
Of course, Jiang Zhuoye wouldn’t let Su Li take a cab alone. She called her assistant to arrange a high-end private car, and she accompanied Su Li to the pick-up spot, reluctantly holding her hand.
“When should we meet next?”
Su Li noticed Jiang Zhuoye’s unwillingness to let her go and proactively asked.
“How about… come to my place?”
Jiang Zhuoye smiled sweetly, her expression soft, and a rich tenderness overflowed from her eyes, making her already delicate features even more captivating.
“Do you mean the villa in our neighborhood?”
“No, I mean the home where I live day-to-day.”
Su Li, of course, agreed readily. She had never experienced the daily life of a major celebrity.
Jiang Zhuoye saw Su Li off in the car. As the car slowly drove away, already several dozen meters down the road, Su Li turned to look back and saw Jiang Zhuoye still standing motionless, watching her leave.
Su Li dismissed the slight feeling of oddness in her heart, thinking contentedly, Jiang Zhuoye is going to take me to her house! This meant their friendship had genuinely developed, reaching the level where they could visit each other’s homes. Their relationship was becoming increasingly close!
Once home, Su Li waited for Jiang Zhuoye’s next invitation. During this time, she carefully prepared small, inexpensive but practical gifts and anonymously sent them to those who had been implicated in the Ying Feiyan case. She also diligently researched the background of Chen Ying’s family company.
The result was that Chen Ying’s family ran an entertainment company, but its market value was probably about the same as her own family’s.
While it was difficult to compare different industries so crudely, Su Li found Chen Ying’s Weibo account and saw that her daily life was similar to that of Ying Feiyan’s ilk clubs, company events, luxurious restaurants, various high-end sports… They were indeed in the same social class. She didn’t need to be afraid, but it was best not to make an enemy of her.
Su Li thought for a moment, then posted a message in the party group she had joined earlier, asking if anyone knew Chen Ying.
This party group had since kicked out Yu Xianxian and Ying Feiyan. Su Li had become the target everyone in the group wanted to be close to, naturally leading them to kick out anyone with little use and focus on gossiping about the others.
As soon as she posted the message, many people started chiming in:
“What? Chen Ying? Isn’t that Chen Anji’s new girlfriend?”
“Is it Chen Ying from Huanxu? If I recall correctly, isn’t she dating Chen Anji?”
“Why is Su Li asking about Chen Ying?”
Guan Jingxian called Su Li privately, her tone highly gossipy:
“What’s up? Could Chen Ying be your next target? That would be too… Chen Ying is quite the wild one. I suggest you don’t hang out with her.”
Su Li asked:
“What do you mean by ‘wild one’?”
Guan Jingxian replied:
“I’m not entirely sure about the details, but our circle doesn’t really hang out with Chen Ying’s crowd. Plus, Chen Ying seems to have a partner now.”
Su Li remembered the person mentioned in the group:
“Is it that Chen Anji? Didn’t she not have a partner a few months ago and was known as a ‘Fish Master’ (a term for someone who dates many people at once)?”
Guan Jingxian said:
“I don’t know the specifics, but I advise you not to mess with anyone associated with Chen Ying. Her personality is much worse than Ying Feiyan’s, and she likes to play around with celebrities.”
Su Li quietly replied:
“I understand.”
Gathering information from all sides, she decisively sent a private message to Chen Anji, telling him about Chen Ying going to the film set to try and hook up with a celebrity, though she omitted Jiang Zhuoye’s name. She urged Chen Anji to keep a better eye on his girlfriend.
Chen Anji was indeed angry when he heard the news. He thanked her and went offline. Su Li figured he was going to cause trouble for Chen Ying. She let out a sigh of relief and mentally applauded herself for her bravery.
In her spare time, she worked on her art in the studio. She continued sketching the draft of Jiang Zhuoye she had started earlier. Now, with inspiration flowing like a divine source, her drawing was very fluid.
About a week later, Jiang Zhuoye called ahead, telling Su Li she would come over the next morning and added:
“I have a long holiday this time; we can spend Christmas together.”
Su Li checked the calendar and realized that the next day was Christmas. She would be celebrating the holiday at Jiang Zhuoye’s home.
After hanging up, Su Li felt she should probably bring a gift. Arriving empty-handed for Christmas at someone else’s home probably wasn’t good form.
But she had no special skills other than drawing… After much thought, Su Li buried herself at her desk and spent a whole night diligently drawing various manga poses and expressions of “Miss Yezi.” She compiled several large sheets of paper, rolled them into a tube, and prepared to take them as a gift.
In the early morning hours, Su Li finally finished. The nearly thirty comic figures had taken a lot of effort in both design and drawing. She admired her work contentedly, took photos as a keepsake, and then went to bed.
