The Mad Beauty and the Sick Young Lady [Transmigration Novel] - Chapter 29.1
“CEO Lu, I didn’t expect a figure like you to take an interest in us.”
CEO Lu squinted his eyes and replied:
“Long time no see, Xiao Jiang. I still remember the days when you were the top star in our company! It’s a pity, you threw away your former patron as soon as you gained success. I hope you aren’t so flighty now.”
His words were very impolite. Many of the supporting actors and actresses on site looked at Jiang Zhuoye with ambiguous expressions.
Jiang Zhuoye, however, just smiled, responding with an equally barbed comment:
“I am merely an ambitious person. But you, CEO Lu, weren’t very good at managing the company back then. I wouldn’t dare claim the title of ‘top star,’ especially since you handed all my resources over to others at the time.”
The surrounding crowd was again in an uproar. Su Li was also stunned. She quickly pulled out her phone to search for Huanxu’s artists but didn’t find anyone particularly famous. Huanxu seemed to lack very well-known artists.
CEO Lu sneered, his puffy eyes narrowed as he stared at Jiang Zhuoye:
“How about we find a place to catch up on old times?”
Jiang Zhuoye tactfully declined:
“If you don’t need anything else, CEO Lu, we still have to film, so we won’t see you off.”
CEO Lu:
“What kind of talk is that!”
Jiang Zhuoye turned to leave, the director looking bewildered, and CEO Lu hesitating to speak.
Just then, a hoarse, magnetic female voice came from within the group of people:
“Leaving in such a hurry? Are you afraid to see me?”
Jiang Zhuoye instantly stopped, her back ramrod straight. After a pause, she slowly turned back, her expression unruffled, her gaze slowly falling upon the speaker.
She was an extremely beautiful woman with short hair. She wore a red and black shirt dress and a black overcoat, heavy makeup, and looked extremely arrogant. Her eyes were also fixed on Jiang Zhuoye.
Su Li stared at the woman for a long time, completely unfamiliar with her, but judging by her looks, she was likely someone from the entertainment industry.
The woman walked towards Jiang Zhuoye, circling around CEO Lu. CEO Lu actually stepped back, clearly indicating the woman held a superior position.
Jiang Zhuoye stood still. After a long time, she slowly curved her lips:
“Chen Ying, long time no see.”
Chen Ying sized up Jiang Zhuoye, her voice hoarse:
“I heard you were on this set, so I had Huanxu invest. For the past few years, you’ve been avoiding me everywhere. To see you, I had to resort to such a roundabout way.”
Jiang Zhuoye stood in front of Chen Ying, slightly shorter in height. She was already slender with narrow shoulders, making her look delicate compared to the broad shouldered, long-legged Chen Ying.
Some bystanders were whispering, and Su Li caught a few snippets:
“Is that the eldest daughter of Huanxu? I heard CEO Lu is just the general manager, and this daughter is the chairman’s daughter and vice general manager. She’ll probably squeeze out CEO Lu soon.”
“I heard she’s a top Alpha… why do all these wealthy families tend to produce top Alphas and Omegas? The world is so unfair.”
Su Li frowned, her gaze refocusing on Chen Ying.
Chen Ying deliberately spoke to the director:
“Since we rarely visit, why don’t we have Ms. Jiang give us a tour of the set?”
The director immediately agreed, but Jiang Zhuoye coldly refused:
“No.”
With her attitude being so firm, the director naturally had nothing to say and could only call over another supporting actress to take CEO Lu and his entourage on a tour of the set.
Jiang Zhuoye turned and walked toward her van. She saw Su Li with a single glance, and a hint of panic flashed in her eyes.
She quickly walked over, grabbed Su Li’s wrist, and pulled her away swiftly without saying a word.
Su Li looked back in confusion and whispered:
“That… Chen Ying, she’s following us.”
Jiang Zhuoye said nothing, striding quickly toward the van. Su Li had to quicken her pace to keep up, and the two quickly distanced themselves from the crowd.
Jia Sihan was near the van. Seeing the three people approach, she quickly stepped forward to intercept, casually blocking Chen Ying and starting a friendly conversation:
“Oh, Vice President Chen, what are you doing here? Have you eaten yet…”
Jiang Zhuoye shoved Su Li into the car and followed her in. Just as she was about to close the door, a hand with prominent knuckles suddenly got wedged in the door.
Jiang Zhuoye only hesitated for a moment before using even more force to violently slam the door shut.
The owner of the hand had shoved half an arm inside but hadn’t expected Jiang Zhuoye to be so ruthless. Her arm was brutally pinched between the car doors, letting out a scream that completely broke her image.
Jiang Zhuoye disdainfully kicked the hand away with her foot, closed and locked the door, and sat back down in the car, staring at the door.
Su Li was stunned by this series of brutal actions:
“Do you… have a vendetta against her?”
Jiang Zhuoye turned her head expressionlessly:
“Back at the company, she tried to pursue me. After I refused many times, she locked me in an empty office and tried to forcibly mark me. I smashed her head with a vase.”
Su Li felt cold all over and shivered involuntarily, furrowing her brows:
“Then not breaking that hand just now was letting her off easy.”
Jiang Zhuoye lowered her head, laughing self-deprecatingly:
“Mixing in this circle, I’ve heard, seen, and experienced too many of these dirty things.”
There was nothing to say at this moment. Su Li reached out a hand and carefully stroked Jiang Zhuoye’s long hair draped down her back.
The small van was silent, but outside, someone was banging on the door, accompanied by a hoarse roar:
“Jiang Zhuoye, come out! We need to clear things up!”
Su Li’s eyebrows were practically tied in a knot. Why were these top Alphas all so thick-skinned?
Jiang Zhuoye suddenly stood up. Su Li grabbed for her but missed and quickly followed.
Jiang Zhuoye walked to the door and abruptly pulled it open!
Chen Ying, who was outside banging on the door, was momentarily stunned. Jiang Zhuoye smiled at her, an extremely sweet smile that instantly made all of Chen Ying’s anger vanish.
Chen Ying started to speak:
“A-Ye, I was wrong about what happened back then, but now you…”
Jiang Zhuoye didn’t listen to her, abruptly raising her hand and delivering several sharp slaps “Pa! Pa! Pa!” left and right.
Standing in the car, Jiang Zhuoye already had the height advantage, and her strikes were exceptionally fierce. Chen Ying’s face quickly swelled up.
Chen Ying covered her face, incredulous:
“You hit me! You hit me! Are you crazy?!”
Jiang Zhuoye curled her lips into a smirk of satisfaction:
“I’ve always been crazy. Didn’t you know?”
Chen Ying’s eyes turned vicious. She clutched the car door with both hands and leaped onto the car!
Jiang Zhuoye subconsciously took a step back, creating a little space between them. Chen Ying immediately raised her hand to hit her, grinding her teeth and looking ferocious.
Jiang Zhuoye had her back to the wall and couldn’t retreat further. She could only slightly raise her foot, preparing to kick her, but the slap was faster than her leg. There was no avoiding it. She thought enduring one slap might be acceptable.
However, just then, a familiar scent of oranges flooded Jiang Zhuoye’s nostrils, and a white figure flashed before her eyes.
Jiang Zhuoye’s eyes widened suddenly.
Standing in front of her was a short, thin figure. Her white sweater swayed on her body, her long, dark, straight hair was spread out, and her arms were stretched wide to the sides.
She stood between Jiang Zhuoye and the incoming slap, without hesitation, without retreating.
“Li Li!”
Jiang Zhuoye shouted loudly, reaching out to try and push Su Li away.
Chen Ying’s slap didn’t stop. Fortunately, at the last moment, Chen Ying herself lost her footing, and the slap only brushed Su Li’s hair.
With a thud, Chen Ying fell out of the van. Su Li quickly and clumsily closed the door.
After locking the door, Su Li finally sighed in relief, clutching her wildly beating heart. She turned around, looked at Jiang Zhuoye, and asked worriedly:
“Are you okay?”
Jiang Zhuoye stared at her fixedly, her mouth slightly open, a vein still pulsing on her forehead from the exertion just now.
She suddenly hugged Su Li tightly, burying her face in Su Li’s orange scented long hair and taking a deep breath.
“You were… truly like a mother hen protecting her chick just now.”
Jiang Zhuoye’s voice was low and muffled. Su Li was stunned for a moment before she understood and laughed herself, gently patting Jiang Zhuoye’s back:
“There, there.”
She felt a cold, wet touch on the back of her neck. Su Li’s eyes widened, confused, and she quickly pushed Jiang Zhuoye away:
“Did you cry?”
Jiang Zhuoye was pushed away, her hands still resting on Su Li’s shoulders and waist. Her head was bowed, black hair covering her face, making it impossible to see her eyes.
Su Li felt a pang of heartache, realizing she shouldn’t have asked that. So, she cautiously gave her another friendly hug, pulling Jiang Zhuoye into her embrace.
“It’s okay, it’s okay… Do you want to get some milk tea later? Do you want brown sugar boba or taro boba? I want strawberry fruit tea…”
Jiang Zhuoye’s thick, nasal voice came through:
“Brown sugar boba.”
Su Li smiled, nodding in agreement:
“Okay, I’ll go buy it later.”
A muffled, anxious, nasal voice responded:
“Don’t go. I’ll have someone else buy it… Don’t leave.”
Su Li laughed softly. Although something felt off, she still had a strange sense of satisfaction.
She felt that her friendship with Jiang Zhuoye had just taken a step forward.
