The Lost Omega Heiress is Pregnant with My Child - Chapter 9
An awkward kiss.
Shi Anzhi could no longer hear the deafening cheers from the audience.
The moment the referee raised her arm, she had almost exhausted her last ounce of strength.
A sharp pain shot through her abdomen, and her mouth was filled with the taste of blood. She was helped to the backstage by staff, where Ah Shan was already waiting with a first aid kit.
Seeing the blood at the corner of her mouth and her disheveled state, Ah Shan couldn’t help but mutter a few curses under his breath. “Damn, I knew you’d end up like this.”
“At least you won and kept your life.”
Together with the emergency doctor, he helped check Shi Anzhi’s injuries. Relieved to confirm that no vital organs were severely damaged, he sighed in relief.
After the doctor finished treating her, Ah Shan handed Shi Anzhi a bottle of specially prepared medicinal wine he had ready. “Take this. Remember to apply it every day when you get back. Don’t end up with chronic injuries like me.”
“Thanks,” Shi Anzhi replied, her voice hoarse and painful to use.
Ah Shan waved her off. “Save your breath.”
“Don’t do something this stupid again. Money can be earned back, but if you lose your life, that’s it.”
He grumbled, “I wonder how much commission Teng Ying got for introducing you to this.”
“Anyway, let me take you to Teng Ying’s place to rest for a few days. Since you ended up like this, she should take some responsibility.”
Shi Anzhi shook her head slightly. “Just take me home first.”
“Why go home?”
As soon as he asked, Ah Shan belatedly remembered that Shi Anzhi had an Omega she had rescued at home. Understanding dawning on him, he suddenly felt an indescribable respect for her.
No longer in the mood to tease, he silently drove Shi Anzhi home, his gaze lingering on her injuries, and left just as quietly.
By the time she arrived home, the sky was beginning to lighten with the first hints of dawn.
When Shi Anzhi saw the dim yellow light still glowing in the second-floor window, her heart felt instantly full.
It was like a lighthouse, forever shining just for her.
The corner of her mouth was split, oozing blood, and her left cheek was swollen and bruised a purplish-blue. Every step she took sent a piercing pain through her right leg, which had been brutally kicked by her opponent.
Bearing the agony, she tried to make her footsteps sound as steady as usual.
She didn’t want Nian Xue to worry.
Would Nian Xue be frightened to tears by her condition? She had cried last time.
Using her key to unlock the door, she stepped inside as quietly as possible. As she entered, she saw Nian Xue curled up on the sofa, seemingly asleep, clutching Shi Anzhi’s pillow in her arms.
Tears still glistened on her long, damp eyelashes.
Nian Xue was quickly roused by the noise in the house, initially thinking it was that annoying Omega again.
But when she opened her eyes and saw it was Shi Anzhi, she immediately felt like crying.
“Shi Anzhi.”
She threw herself into Shi Anzhi’s arms, holding her tightly as if trying to merge her into her very bones. “You’re back! You’re finally back.”
“I’m back.”
“I really hate it when you leave me like this.”
Enduring the pain, Shi Anzhi let the Omega hold her, gently stroking her back.
Nian Xue soon sensed something was wrong.
She caught the scent of medicinal wine on Shi Anzhi and pulled away from her embrace. In the dim yellow light, she saw the bruises at the corner of Shi Anzhi’s mouth and her split lip.
Her voice trembled as she took it all in.
“You’re hurt?”
Shi Anzhi had thought about lying, but faced with Nian Xue’s eyes, filled with nothing but heartache, she couldn’t utter a single word.
She could only nod in silence.
At that moment, Nian Xue’s tears fell even more fiercely.
She didn’t ask where she had gone or what she had done. Instead, she reached out and gently touched the wound at the corner of her lips with her fingertips.
Nian Xue choked back a sob and asked, “Does it hurt?”
“No, it doesn’t.” Shi Anzhi grasped her cold hand. “I’m back. Have you been good at home?”
Those words made Nian Xue cry even harder.
She threw herself into Shi Anzhi’s arms, burying her face in her chest, and said in a tone that brooked no refusal, “Promise me you’ll never do such dangerous things again! You’re never allowed to get hurt again!”
“Okay!” Shi Anzhi agreed, though in her heart, she thought, In a place like District R, how easy is it to avoid getting hurt?
But she would try her best.
“I won’t obediently stay at home anymore. From now on, I’m going with you, no matter what. We’ll do everything together.”
Shi Anzhi couldn’t quite describe the feeling those words stirred in her heart, a mix of sweetness and bitterness. Her eyes began to sting as well.
They quietly savored the moment of closeness, and Shi Anzhi felt an urge to cry, a feeling she hadn’t experienced in many years.
The following days became a rare period of recovery for Shi Anzhi.
She had some natural talent, and after years of rough experiences, her injuries, though frightening to look at, were mostly superficial and hadn’t severely damaged her internal organs.
But Nian Xue took it very seriously, growing extremely anxious and secretly shedding tears several times.
She forbade Shi Anzhi from sleeping on the sofa anymore, firmly pressing her onto the only large bed in the bedroom while she slept beside her, claiming it was for easier care.
She also wouldn’t allow Shi Anzhi to do any heavy work.
Now, she was the first to wake up in the mornings, learning to make breakfast in the kitchen just as Shi Anzhi used to.
Nian Xue started with the simplest task cooking porridge. At first, she either burned the rice or added too much water, turning it into rice soup. But with Shi Anzhi’s guidance, by the third day, she could already prepare a decent pot of lean meat porridge.
The fruit shop was temporarily left in her care as well.
She acted as the proprietress, sitting at the checkout counter, carefully weighing fruits and calculating bills for every customer.
She reported everything she did truthfully to Shi Anzhi, eagerly awaiting her reaction. Shi Anzhi was skilled at giving praise, always saying she had done well no matter what.
Without heavy chores, their days passed quite comfortably.
In recent days, Shi Anzhi spent most of her time either lying in bed or sitting in a chair downstairs, basking in the sun. During these moments, Nian Xue would cling to her like an affectionate kitten, always finding a way to stay by her side.
When Shi Anzhi read, Nian Xue would pull up a small stool and sit beside her, resting her chin in her hands as she quietly watched her.
When Shi Anzhi dozed off, Nian Xue would quietly drape a thin blanket over her, then rest her own head on her arms and fall asleep by the bed.
The special medicinal liquor Ah Shan had given them worked wonders. After a few days like this, Shi Anzhi gradually recovered.
Their bond quietly deepened through these small, everyday interactions.
Shi Anzhi realized that she was growing increasingly accustomed to Nian Xue’s presence to her soft, gentle voice and her clumsy yet earnest care.
That evening, with her injuries almost fully healed, Shi Anzhi thought that perhaps it was time to move back to the sofa.
After all, the impending heat cycle hanging over her head was still unresolved, and she couldn’t use suppressants for the time being. The thought of it filled Shi Anzhi with worry.
But when she suggested sleeping separately, Nian Xue’s reaction was far stronger than she had anticipated.
Without a second thought, Nian Xue refused, puffing her cheeks in anger. “I don’t want to.”
She tightly grabbed Shi Anzhi’s arm. “Do you find me annoying now? Are you going to abandon me once your injuries are healed?”
“I’m not.”
Shi Anzhi felt both amused and exasperated, unsure what was going through Nian Xue’s mind. Suppressing her embarrassment, she explained, “After all, one of us is an Alpha, and the other is an Omega. It’s not really appropriate for us to sleep together all the time.”
“What’s inappropriate about it?”
Nian Xue retorted, her tone full of conviction. “I like sleeping with you. I don’t have nightmares when I’m next to you.”
“Don’t you like me? Do you have someone else in your heart?”
Nian Xue stared directly at Shi Anzhi.
Shi Anzhi thought for a moment. “I don’t have anyone else.”
Hearing this, Nian Xue suddenly grew angry again. “Then were you lying when you said you liked me before?”
Shi Anzhi: …
Blushing, she patiently explained, “There’s no one else.”
A smile spread across Nian Xue’s face upon hearing this. “So you’re saying I’m the one in your heart, right? Then why won’t you sleep with me?”
Shi Anzhi’s face grew even redder. Rendered speechless by Nian Xue’s words, she could only surrender once again.
And so, that night, the two of them ended up lying in the same bed as usual.
But the atmosphere tonight felt different.
Perhaps because their relationship had taken another step forward, the air seemed to shimmer with ambiguity subtle yet tantalizing, stirring restlessness in their hearts.
Shi Anzhi caught the sweet scent of snow pear again. She didn’t know what to do. For her, a heat cycle had always been a theoretical concept. In reality, she had no idea how to handle an Omega’s heat.
She didn’t know how other Alphas helped Omegas either. Were there ways to get through it without sharing a bed?
Should she release soothing pheromones?
Shi Anzhi lay with her eyes closed, motionless, wondering if she should look up some information on the topic.
Nian Xue had been tossing and turning for a long time.
She faced Shi Anzhi, gazing at her sleeping face. Shi Anzhi seemed to have lost weight recently and Nian Xue’s heart ached faintly, blaming herself for not taking good enough care of her.
As if guided by some unseen force, she reached out and cautiously traced Shi Anzhi’s lips with her fingertips.
The sensation was softer and warmer than she had imagined.
Shi Anzhi, who hadn’t been asleep at all, felt the gentle touch and frowned slightly.
Nian Xue noticed and felt her heart skip a beat uncontrollably.
Staring at the sleeping face so close to hers, a bold idea suddenly began to grow wildly in her heart.
She wanted to kiss Shi Anzhi.
Just once.
Shi Anzhi would never find out.
Shi Anzhi was so gentle even if she did find out, she wouldn’t get angry, right?
It was just a kiss, not something bad.
Nian Xue’s cheeks burned, her heart pounding like a drum. Glancing around guiltily, she mustered her courage and slowly, ever so slowly, leaned down.
Closer and closer.
She could clearly see Shi Anzhi’s long, delicate eyelashes.
Just as her lips were about to touch that softness, a mere second away Shi Anzhi’s eyes suddenly flew open.
Time seemed to freeze in that moment, the air filled only with the sound of their heartbeats, loud and clear.
“You!” Shi Anzhi began, about to ask something.
Nian Xue’s mind went completely blank, all rationality replaced by the shattering shame of the collision. Closing her eyes and steeling her heart, she pressed her lips directly against the other’s.
It was an awkward, clumsy kiss.
Two pairs of soft lips met with no technique whatsoever, yet it felt like fireworks had exploded deep within both their hearts.
Shi Anzhi was utterly stunned.
She could feel the warmth of another person on her lips, could smell the sweet scent of snow pear in her breath.
As for Nian Xue, regret had already begun to surface the moment their lips touched. Frozen in place, a thought flashed through her mind: It’s over Shi Anzhi will think I’m a shameless Omega.
She wanted to pull away, but her body seemed rooted to the spot, unable to move.
What should I do? I still want to kiss her.
I want to bite Shi Anzhi’s lips.
This stalemate lasted only a few seconds.
In the end, it was Shi Anzhi who moved first.
She couldn’t bring herself to push Nian Xue away.
Instead, she reached out, one hand gently cradling the back of Nian Xue’s head while the other wrapped around her slender waist, pulling the Omega completely into her embrace.
Then, closing her eyes, she awkwardly returned the kiss.
