The Lost Omega Heiress is Pregnant with My Child - Chapter 6
I like you.
Shi Anzhi felt as if she were about to combust.
This was an experience she had never had before every inch of skin that came into contact with the Omega’s soft body radiated heat.
She could even distinctly feel Nian Xue’s slow, steady breaths. Each exhale was like a feather, lightly brushing against her neck and earlobes.
Sending shivers down her spine.
After what felt like an eternity, Nian Xue murmured softly in her sleep, tightening her arms and burying herself deeper into Shi Anzhi’s embrace.
Causing Shi Anzhi’s breath to hitch for a moment.
After a long while, she gave up her futile resistance. Fine, let it be.
Surrounded by the warmth beside her, Shi Anzhi finally succumbed to her overwhelming exhaustion and fell into a deep sleep.
The next morning, sunlight streamed through the gaps in the window, casting bands of light across the room.
Shi Anzhi awoke.
She shifted her slightly numb body and realized that Nian Xue was already awake, staring at her with clear, watery amber eyes, unblinking.
They were so close that Shi Anzhi’s face flushed instantly. She instinctively tried to push Nian Xue away to create some distance, but the Omega seemed to anticipate it, tightening her arms around her to prevent her from moving.
“Good morning, Shi Anzhi.”
Nian Xue’s voice was soft and drowsy, her lips curving into a satisfied smile.
It was the most peaceful sleep she’d had since losing her memory.
Wrapped in the Alpha’s body heat, she felt as if all the storms outside were kept at bay.
“Morning!”
Shi Anzhi’s voice was hoarse as she struggled to sit up.
She still remembered how she hadn’t proactively explained her whereabouts yesterday, and how Nian Xue had cried because of it.
Now, she gently pushed the other away. “I need to get up. I’m going to the orchard to pick fruit today.”
“Huh?”
“Then I’m going too!Nian Xue immediately sat up as well, her tone filled with a sense of natural joy.
“No.”
Shi Anzhi refused without a second thought.
“The orchard is in the suburbs. The road is rough, and it’s a bit dangerous out there. It’s not good for your health.”
What worried her most was that the outskirts of R District were far from safe. She could handle herself, but with Nian Xue along, she feared something might go wrong.
“But I don’t want to stay home alone.”
Nian Xue’s lips pouted slightly, and a film of moisture instantly clouded her eyes, making her look utterly pitiful.
“I’ll be scared.”
“Take me with you, please?”
The Omega tugged lightly at Shi Anzhi’s sleeve, swaying it gently as she pleaded in a coaxing tone.
“I promise I’ll be good and won’t cause any trouble.”
Shi Anzhi couldn’t bear to see Nian Xue like this. Those clear eyes were filled with dependence, making it impossible for her to refuse.
If she didn’t take Nian Xue along, would she cry again when she returned?
After a long moment, Shi Anzhi sighed and relented. “Fine.”
“But you have to promise me you’ll stay by my side at all times. No wandering off!”
“Mm, I’ll really be good.”
Nian Xue’s tears turned to laughter as she nodded emphatically.
Shi Anzhi smiled helplessly and got up to prepare breakfast.
She used the leftover meat from yesterday as a broth base for noodles and fried two golden sunny-side-up eggs.
After they finished eating, Shi Anzhi dug out a spare hat of hers and a scarf that could cover the mouth and nose, handing them to Nian Xue. She also found a well-protected black work suit for Nian Xue to wear.
Putting on her gear, Shi Anzhi drove the old, beat-up pickup truck toward the farm.
The mornings in District R were always hazy, with dust and the smell of chemical gases floating in the air.
The closer she got to the outskirts, the clearer the sky became, revealing the sun’s natural light.
The farm was one of the few remaining sanctuaries in District R, where a few dozen stubborn old farmers cultivated fruit trees using the most traditional methods.
Due to acid rain, many of the tree trunks had turned a grayish-black, and their leaves were far less vibrant than those in the special zones. Yet, despite this, these trees still bore fruit every season, providing sweetness for the people living on this land.
When the truck stopped at the edge of the farm, Nian Xue’s eyes lit up at the sight of the vast, lush green fields.
After getting out of the truck, she joyfully ran back and forth along the ridges. Her snug work clothes were a bit too big for her, and the corners of her jacket fluttered in the wind like drifting clouds.
Shi Anzhi followed behind, watching Nian Xue’s smiling face under the sunlight, and felt her own heart lift with happiness.
Maybe District R wasn’t so bad after all, at least it had a field that could make Nian Xue laugh so freely.
Shi Anzhi brought Nian Xue to the orange grove and began picking oranges.
Nian Xue watched curiously for a while, her eyes sparkling.
Afraid that Nian Xue might get bored with nothing to do, Shi Anzhi handed her a smaller basket and a specially designed pair of scissors after a moment. “Would you like to give it a try?”
“Of course!” Nian Xue replied.
Shi Anzhi gestured with her hand, and Nian Xue excitedly took the tools.
She clumsily imitated Shi Anzhi’s movements, starting to pick the oranges.
Compared to Shi Anzhi, Nian Xue was much slower, carefully examining each fruit before snipping it off and placing it in the basket.
Sunlight filtered through the gaps in the leaves, casting a halo around her and making her look incredibly beautiful.
Standing not far away, Shi Anzhi watched the scene, a faint, unconscious smile forming at the corner of her lips.
She loved seeing Nian Xue so full of life, it was far better than the lifelessness she had shown when they first found her by the river. It made everything Shi Anzhi had done feel worthwhile.
The two of them worked together all morning, filling two large baskets to the brim.
Before leaving, Shi Anzhi went to say hello to Old Qi, the farm owner.
Suddenly, a clear, crisp voice called out from nearby.
“Senior Anzhi!”
Shi Anzhi turned toward the voice and saw a familiar figure.
It was Lin Wenshui, a slender Omega who lived in the building next to hers. She was Shi Anzhi’s junior from high school, and the two were fairly acquainted.
Lin Wenshui had delicate features and was leaning against a nearby lawnmower, wearing a perfectly measured smile.
“Wenshui,” Shi Anzhi responded.
“Here to pick oranges?” Lin Wenshui asked, trying to make conversation.
“Mm.”
Shi Anzhi had never been much of a talker. Lin Wenshui fell silent for a moment, unsure of what to say next.
But she didn’t want to leave.
She had always harbored a bit of a crush on Shi Anzhi, even back in school.
Unfortunately, Shi Anzhi was disabled, and many people looked down on her. Lin Wenshui’s family would never approve of them being together.
On top of that, Shi Anzhi didn’t seem like the type to take the initiative in matters of the heart. Her aloof and indifferent nature made Lin Wenshui hesitant to ever confess her feelings.
Sometimes she felt that Shi Anzhi was fortunate to be noticed by a healthy Omega like herself, yet Shi Anzhi’s attitude toward her remained nothing out of the ordinary.
As she searched for a topic of conversation, Lin Wenshui suddenly noticed another Omega following behind Shi Anzhi.
Watching the Omega slowly approach them, Lin Wenshui’s smile stiffened for a moment.
“Who is this?”
Lin Wenshui scrutinized Nian Xue from head to toe.
Even with a scarf obscuring much of her face, the Omega before her was undeniably beautiful. More importantly, Lin Wenshui could detect a faint yet unmistakable sweet scent of snow pear in the air.
Her pupils contracted was this a sign that the Omega was about to enter her estrus cycle?
Sensing Lin Wenshui’s scrutinizing gaze on Nian Xue, Shi Anzhi’s tone cooled slightly.
“This is my friend, Nian Xue.”
“I rescued her.”
Nian Xue had been admiring the flowers earlier but hurried over when she saw Shi Anzhi talking to someone.
As a high-level Omega, she was highly sensitive to the emotions of others.
At that moment, she could clearly feel the hostility emanating from this Omega. Uncomfortable with the sensation, she shrank slightly behind Shi Anzhi.
Lin Wenshui’s emotions were complicated.
She had always believed Shi Anzhi was an unfeeling, emotionally detached person, unaffected by pheromones. So when had this estrus-bound Omega appeared?
Hadn’t Shi Anzhi told her that all she wanted in life was to run her fruit shop peacefully?
Frowning, Lin Wenshui remarked with a subtle tone, “Anzhi, you really do have a habit of picking things up.”
“First, it was cats and dogs, and now you’ve even brought back a person.”
“Such a delicate Omega can’t be easy to care for, right? She doesn’t look like someone who could survive in our R District.”
In an instant, Shi Anzhi’s expression turned icy and Nian Xue froze in shock.
Anxiously, she tugged at Shi Anzhi’s sleeve.
Shi Anzhi responded firmly, “She is someone I saved. No one else needs to worry about her.”
Hearing this, Lin Wenshui’s expression darkened. “Senior Anzhi.”
Ignoring her further, Shi Anzhi took Nian Xue’s hand, bypassed Lin Wenshui, and headed straight for the small truck.
As she was led away, Nian Xue glanced back at the Omega standing frozen in place.
She understood that Shi Anzhi was defending her, and a sweet warmth spread through her heart.
Settling into the passenger seat of the truck, she watched Shi Anzhi start the engine. The lines of Shi Anzhi’s profile, bathed in the morning light, looked especially striking. Unable to resist, Nian Xue reached out and gently touched Shi Anzhi’s arm.
Shi Anzhi turned her head. “What’s wrong?”
“That Omega just now,” Nian Xue said softly, her voice tinged with confusion and a hint of grievance, “She seemed to dislike me?”
Shi Anzhi hummed in acknowledgment, noticing Nian Xue’s troubled expression. “Don’t mind her.”
She freed one hand and ruffled Nian Xue’s hair. “I like you.”
The moment the words left her mouth, both of them froze.
Shi Anzhi hadn’t thought much before speaking, she simply felt Nian Xue shouldn’t care about the opinions of irrelevant people. Only now did she realize her words might carry unintended implications.
Before she could explain, Nian Xue beamed and quickly replied, “I like you too!”
Shi Anzhi couldn’t help but laugh. It felt as though they were two children, expressing “like” in an earnest attempt to affirm and protect each other.
It had been a long time since she’d experienced such childlike sincerity.
Nian Xue saw Anzhi laughing so quickly and felt a bit displeased, repeating, “I’m serious, what are you laughing at?”
