The Lost Omega Heiress is Pregnant with My Child - Chapter 5
The sofa was small, the bed was large.
The Omega had waited all day, from dawn till dusk.
The house held only her and a dog that couldn’t speak. At first, the lingering scent of Shi Anzhi still hung in the air, but it grew fainter and fainter.
The sky was growing dark, and Shi Anzhi still hadn’t returned home.
She thought she had been abandoned.
She remembered collapsing by the muddy riverbank, remembered opening her eyes in that dimly lit clinic. The fear of being cast aside yet again gripped her where would she wander next?
Shi Anzhi’s heart ached as she watched the expression on Nian Xue’s face.
She hurried over, crouched down, and slowly drew the trembling, cold body into her arms.
It was the same way she used to coax her little dog, Bobo, to take medicine.
“I’m sorry.”
Her chin rested gently against Nian Xue’s soft shoulder, her movements cautious.
“I came back late.”
Holding the Omega, she could feel Nian Xue’s body gradually relax in her embrace, until finally, all her weight leaned into Shi Anzhi, and she began to cry softly.
Shi Anzhi stroked her back again and again, comforting her in the clumsiest way possible.
So this is how fragile an Omega is they cry when you’re not around.
So this is what it feels like to be desperately needed.
Shi Anzhi didn’t mention that she had been dealing with those filthy scraps. Those things were troublesome and had taken up a lot of her time. In District R, weakness and suffering weren’t worth talking about.
But as she watched Nian Xue sobbing in her arms, she felt the urge to confide for the first time.
She wanted to tell her that she hadn’t abandoned her that she was trying to earn money so Nian Xue could live a better life.
“I had some matters to take care of, but I came back as soon as I could.”
Shi Anzhi clasped Nian Xue’s cold fingertips, warming them with her own body heat. “I’m sorry. Next time, I’ll let you know before I go out.”
Nian Xue sniffled and nodded.
“The porridge, I saw it.”
“But you weren’t here, so I had no appetite.”
Shi Anzhi’s heart melted into a puddle. “It’s alright. Now that I’m back, I’ll make you something else.”
After a while, Nian Xue gradually calmed down. She lifted her head from Shi Anzhi’s embrace, looked at her, and then at the large shopping bags at her feet.
With a heavy nasal tone, she glanced curiously at the bags. “You bought so many things.”
“Mm.”
Shi Anzhi wiped away Nian Xue’s tear stains, released her, and brought the bags over.
Like presenting a treasure, she took out a piece of pork hind leg wrapped in oil paper and a bag of fresh shrimp. “How about I cook some meat for you tonight?”
Nian Xue had rarely seen raw meat before and blinked curiously, unsure if it was edible. But hearing Shi Anzhi’s words, she nodded appreciatively.
Shi Anzhi then pulled out the sapphire-blue dress from the bottom of the bag.
“And this.”
She unfolded the dress in front of Nian Xue, her tone tinged with anticipation. “I think you’ll look really beautiful in this.”
Nian Xue’s eyes instantly lit up.
She had noticed that most people in this place wore plain, dark-colored clothes. Everything seemed dull and gray, she had never seen such a vibrant blue before.
She reached out a finger and carefully touched the soft cotton fabric, a delighted smile spreading across her face. “Wow, it’s so pretty.”
“Thank you!”
Shi Anzhi also smiled. “I’m glad you like it.”
Nian Xue touched the dress, eager to try it on right away. Shi Anzhi anticipated this and stood up to leave, giving the Omega privacy to change. It was also time to start preparing dinner.
“I’ll go make dinner now.”
Nian Xue let out a shy “Mm” and held the dress up against herself in front of the room’s mirror.
Dinner was carefully prepared by Shi Anzhi.
Her cooking skills were decent, honed from taking care of younger children back at the orphanage. Nowadays, when she was alone, she couldn’t be bothered to cook properly.
But taking care of Nian Xue was different.
She started by thoroughly washing a piece of pork hind leg, then cut it into evenly sized chunks. Using spices unique to District R and a small amount of precious sugar, she prepared a small pot of fragrant and enticing braised pork.
She shelled fresh shrimp and steamed them with eggs to make a smooth and tender shrimp steamed egg. In between, she also stir-fried a plate of crisp and refreshing cabbage.
The entire process was efficient, nimble, and rhythmic.
Nian Xue, now changed into her dress, stood at the kitchen doorway, watching Shi Anzhi’s movements in a daze.
She had never known that preparing food could be such a scene filled with the warmth of life. After watching for a while, she quietly walked up behind Shi Anzhi.
Shi Anzhi was focused on the braised pork in the pot when she suddenly felt a soft, warm body press against her back. She stiffened, nearly dropping the seasoning bottle in her hand.
“What’s wrong?”
She turned around. The sapphire-blue dress made Nian Xue’s skin appear even fairer and accentuated her figure beautifully. The Omega, like a little kitten, looked curiously at the pots and pans on the stove.
For a moment, Shi Anzhi had an illusion.
This seemed just like the “home” she had secretly fantasized about back in the orphanage warm, peaceful, filled with the aroma of food, and with someone she wanted to be with.
Shi Anzhi suddenly felt a pang of sorrow.
Nian Xue said, “I want to help you.”
Shi Anzhi chuckled softly. She turned slightly and pointed to the already washed guavas nearby. “Then help me wash these clean.”
“Okay!”
Nian Xue nodded, happy to be of help to the Alpha.
She clumsily washed the fruit, splashing water everywhere, some even landing on her face. Watching her, Shi Anzhi felt something inside her come alive.
In District R, survival was a battle. Everyone rushed about just to get by, their expressions numb and their eyes wary.
It had been a long time since she had experienced such simple, pure moments.
While cooking, Shi Anzhi secretly squeezed the expensive G-23 high-concentration nutrient supplement into the steamed egg. Fortunately, it was colorless and odorless and wouldn’t affect the taste of the food.
She hoped Nianxhe would recover quickly.
Soon, a lavish dinner was ready.
The two sat at the dining table. The dim, yellowish light stretched their shadows, creating an indescribable warmth.
They were both truly hungry. Shi Anzhi avoided the steamed egg and scooped generous portions into Nian Xue’s bowl.
After ingesting the nutrient supplement, Nian Xue’s energy and appetite improved noticeably. Compared to the steamed egg, she preferred the braised pork, eating until her cheeks were puffed up and mumbling Shi Anzhi’s name indistinctly.
“Shi Anzhi, this is so delicious.”
Shi Anzhi watched the satisfied Omega, her heart swelling with joy.
“I’ll make it for you again next time.”
“Next time, let’s make it together,” the Omega emphasized thoughtfully.
Shi Anzhi was taken aback, surprised that Nian Xue would say such a thing.
After the meal, the effects of the nutrient supplement gradually kicked in.
Nian Xue felt as if a warm current had been injected into her body, and her muddled mind became much clearer. She thought it was because she had eaten her fill.
Sitting on the sofa, she gazed at the bizarre nightscape of District R outside the window. Ghostly lights flickered outside, and occasionally, aircraft streaked across the sky. For a moment, she felt dizzy, as if everything was utterly unfamiliar.
Nian Xue clutched her head. Her mind was completely blank, like a computer that had been wiped clean, leaving nothing behind.
This feeling left her powerless.
“Shi Anzhi…” she whispered, “Who am I? Why… can’t I remember anything?”
She tried hard to recall, but her mind remained empty, with only occasional flashes of cold, fragmented images that vanished too quickly to grasp.
Shi Anzhi’s heart sank. “Do you remember why you were here?”
Like a student trying to answer a question, Nian Xue struggled to find the answer. “I remember you said that river is called Huai River.”
Shi Anzhi was patient. “Yes, and then? Why were you there?”
Nian Xue, overwhelmed by a splitting headache, seemed lost in thought. “I don’t know.”
“Don’t ask,” she said, clutching her head in pain. “It hurts too much.”
Shi Anzhi sighed inwardly. The G-23 nutrient supplement was supposed to be far more effective than G-11, yet Nian Xue still couldn’t remember anything.
Shi Anzhi took Nian Xue’s slightly cold hand. “If you can’t remember, don’t force yourself.”
“Your name is Nian Xue now. You live with me, and I’ll take care of you.”
“Everything will be alright.”
The Alpha’s voice was calm, yet carried a reassuring strength.
Nian Xue looked at Shi Anzhi and, after a moment, nodded, tightening her grip on Shi Anzhi’s hand.
It was then that Shi Anzhi suddenly caught a faint whiff of that elusive pear fragrance again.
This time, the scent seemed stronger than before, and the pheromones clearly conveyed the Omega’s current longing.
Shi Anzhi’s body stiffened.
As a disabled Alpha, her perception of pheromones was extremely dull, yet now she could distinctly smell it.
This meant that while the nutrient supplement was helping Nian Xue recover, the pheromones within her were becoming increasingly active.
Moreover, the Omega’s heat might not be far off.
Shi Anzhi subtly withdrew her hand and said to Nian Xue, “It’s late. I’ll take a shower first, and then you can go to the bedroom to sleep.”
Nian Xue, still suffering from a headache, simply agreed to whatever Shi Anzhi said.
She sat on the living room sofa, watching as Shi Anzhi entered the bathroom.
Shortly after the sound of running water began, Nian Xue suddenly trembled, as if enveloped by an invisible force. A wave of steam washed over her.
What’s happening?
Half an hour later, it was her turn to enter the bathroom.
Nian Xue inhaled deeply, trying to catch the scent unique to the Alpha in the bathroom, but there was nothing. It was strange, she was already trembling with anticipation, yet she couldn’t smell anything.
The more she couldn’t smell it, the more restless she became.
The sound of running water in the bathroom stopped.
Nian Xue emerged wearing Shi Anzhi’s long T-shirt, which she used as pajamas.
She walked over to the sofa, where Shi Anzhi was spreading out the bedding, hesitated for a moment, and then whispered, “Shi Anzhi.”
“The sofa is small and cold.”
Shi Anzhi’s movements froze.
“The bed is very big.”
Nian Xue’s cheeks flushed slightly, her voice growing even softer, like the faint buzzing of a mosquito. “Can we sleep together?”
She simply thought it was too hard for Shi Anzhi to sleep on the small, stiff sofa. She wanted to share half of her bed, and besides, this was originally the Alpha’s home.
The Alpha had already worked hard enough cooking for her and buying her dresses. She didn’t want Shi Anzhi to sleep on the small sofa.
Shi Anzhi’s heart rippled with waves of emotion.
But sharing a bed with an Omega on the verge of heat?
She looked into Nian Xue’s eyes, so pure and untainted by any impurity, and finally shook her head with difficulty.
“No,” her voice was a bit hoarse. “I’m an Alpha. We can’t sleep together.”
A flicker of disappointment crossed Nian Xue’s eyes. She had never been rejected before in her life, and now she felt a little annoyed. She walked into the bedroom, glancing back every few steps.
Shi Anzhi breathed a sigh of relief.
She didn’t have a rut, so she naturally didn’t need suppressants. But it seemed Nian Xue did.
Suppressants. She hadn’t even looked into how much they cost per dose. She’d have to ask Teng Ying about it tomorrow.
Lying on the cold sofa, just as she was about to fall asleep, she was startled awake by a faint noise.
In the darkness, a slender figure stood before the sofa, clutching a pillow and tiptoeing cautiously.
Shi Anzhi wasn’t afraid she knew it had to be Nian Xue but she felt a headache coming on.
“What’s wrong?” Shi Anzhi sat up, fighting off sleepiness as she asked.
“I’m scared.”
Nian Xue’s voice carried a sob, and it wasn’t feigned. “It’s so dark around here. I feel like someone is going to take me away.”
When she slept alone the night before, she had dreamed of an endless darkness, surrounded by masked figures staring at her with suffocating intensity.
“I’m so scared.”
“Anzhi, can I sleep here?” She pointed to the small remaining space on the sofa, her eyes filled with pleading.
Shi Anzhi looked at her pitiful expression and couldn’t bring herself to refuse. Besides, she had already accidentally made the Omega cry once today.
After a moment of silence, she shifted inward.
Sensing the Alpha’s concession, Nian Xue immediately squeezed onto the sofa, pillow in hand.
The sofa was too narrow.
The two of them pressed tightly together. Shi Anzhi could clearly feel the softness and warmth of Nian Xue’s body, catch the faint fragrance from her hair, and detect the increasingly potent scent of pheromones.
Shi Anzhi’s body stiffened, not daring to move an inch, her thoughts drifting back to the suppressants.
Beside her, Nian Xue wasn’t content with just lying together. She turned over, draping an arm and a leg over Shi Anzhi’s body.
Warm, fragrant, and soft Shi Anzhi found herself enveloped.
She froze completely.
Unbeknownst to her, in the darkness, the Omega wore a childish smile.
Heh, in the end, they were still sleeping together.
