The Lost Omega Heiress is Pregnant with My Child - Chapter 24.2
Yu Yiyang accepted it, her gaze quickly shifting to Shi Anzhi. “Hmm?” she teased. “It’s rare to see you bring someone along. Won’t Young Master Jiang be upset?”
“Why would he be upset?”
Shen Tingxue smiled faintly, her tone indifferent. “We’re not married yet. Just don’t go spreading rumors.”
Shi Anzhi clenched her fists tightly, nails digging into her palms. There were many things she hadn’t asked Shen Tingxue.
Some questions went unasked out of fear, others out of trust. Until now, she had subconsciously avoided confronting Shen Tingxue’s engagement, clinging to the hope that it couldn’t be true that Shen Tingxue must have her reasons, that she wouldn’t treat her this way.
She decided that after this banquet, she would have a serious talk with Shen Tingxue about these issues.
“Don’t worry, it’s just a private gathering,” Yu Yiyang said with a laugh.
Shen Tingxue glanced back at Shi Anzhi, about to lead her to a booth, when a bold voice rang out nearby.
“Tingxue, long time no see.”
“We heard your aircraft crashed into the sea gave us quite a scare.”
Following the voice, a woman emerged slowly from the crowd.
Dressed in a fiery red gown with a sable shawl draped over her shoulders, she exuded a wild and unrestrained aura. Seeing her, Shen Tingxue’s expression darkened.
The Li family had nearly gotten her killed, yet for now, she couldn’t openly confront them. This woman was Li Mei, the spoiled and willful daughter of the Li family, who had never shown interest in business or studies, accustomed to a life of indulgence.
The Li family was a giant in the empire’s cybernetic technology sector and also dealt in private security. Nearly seventy percent of the cybernetic implants in the empire’s wealthy elites and the high-level bodyguards they employed came from the Li family’s security company.
Originally, the Li family had barely managed to secure a seat at the table in the Special Zone, nowhere near capable of competing with the Shen family. But a few years ago, they aligned themselves with the Ji family. While Tianheng Industries focused on developing military technology and energy cores, the Li family leveraged this partnership to miniaturize and manufacture sophisticated combat cybernetics and individual soldier weapons.
Backed by the Ji family, the Li family rapidly expanded and began competing with the Shen family for military contracts from the Governor’s Office. In the recent Super A Project, the Li family had persistently lobbied the Governor to assign the project to them, arguing that continuous cybernetic enhancements were the key to success.
Ultimately, the Governor awarded the project to the Shen family. In response, the Li family resorted to covertly attempting to assassinate Shen Tingxue.
Li Mei, who never involved herself in family business and only pursued pleasure, left Shen Tingxue wondering whether she had played any part in the recent events.
Shi Anzhi felt the tension in the air thickening like drawn swords. Her gaze involuntarily drifted to the “person” standing behind Li Mei.
It was a fair-skinned male Omega who appeared very young.
He crawled on all fours like an animal, wearing nothing but a nearly transparent lace garment that barely covered his private areas. A cold, gleaming metal collar was fastened around his neck, from which a chain of the same material extended.
The other end of the chain was held firmly in Li Mei’s hand.
Shi Anzhi stared blankly at the scene, a chill creeping up from the soles of her feet and spreading throughout her body.
Instinctively, she touched the thin silver necklace around her own neck, feeling an icy coldness there.
Shen Tingxue let out a cold laugh. “Still alive, I see.”
Her eyes swept over the male Omega on the floor before returning to Li Mei’s face. “Changed again? This one doesn’t seem particularly impressive.”
Li Mei snorted softly and gave the chain a slight shake. “My toys are refined products optimized by our family. Their pheromones are quite delightful. You just don’t appreciate them, Tingxue.”
Shi Anzhi, standing nearby, unexpectedly met Li Mei’s gaze.
She tried her best to control her expression, even though disappointment was threatening to overflow from her heart.
The distinguished guests watched discreetly from the sidelines.
The door opened again, and a tall woman with shoulder-length black hair strode in leisurely. Her features were deep-set and strikingly beautiful, with an air of sharp elegance between her brows.
As everyone turned to look, her appearance caused subtle shifts in the expressions of many present.
He Lanshuang, a rising military aristocrat who built her fortune on mining and energy, whose mother was the governor’s cousin. She rarely attended such gatherings. Her presence usually signaled the interests of the Governor’s Mansion, making the occasion all the more intriguing.
Seeing the newcomer, Li Mei broke into a smile and moved to take He Lan Shuang’s arm. “Sister Lan Shuang, you came too!”
He Lan Shuang lightly dodged the gesture. Having overheard part of the conversation, she glanced at the person on the floor and tutted. “Xiao Mei, your taste really is quite dreadful.”
“Ugh!” Li Mei let out a coquettish exclamation and angrily tossed the chain aside.
The male Omega hurriedly picked up the chain and offered it back to Li Mei.
Ignoring Li Mei, He Lan Shuang turned her interested gaze toward Shi Anzhi.
She asked Shen Tingxue, “And who is this?”
Shi Anzhi’s heart lifted with anticipation as she waited for Shen Tingxue’s reply.
“My friend, Shi Anzhi,” Shen Tingxue answered with a smile.
In that moment, Shi Anzhi wasn’t sure how she should feel. Was she relieved that Shen Tingxue hadn’t introduced her as a plaything?
When had she, Shi Anzhi, become so pitiable?
“Everyone, don’t just stand there. Come, take a seat,” Yu Yiyang called out, pulling a wine cabinet along. “Freshly arrived wine, let’s all have a taste.”
Shen Tingxue led Shi Anzhi to a seat at the very center. Soon, many people approached to speak with Shen Tingxue none of whom Shi Anzhi could possibly know.
Then, Shen Tingxue was called away and seated farther off. Before leaving, she gave Shi Anzhi’s shoulder a brief squeeze. “Help yourself to some food.”
Shi Anzhi’s heart grew increasingly numb. She didn’t even understand what she had been hoping for.
She picked up a glass of wine from the table and was about to take a sip when someone suddenly tugged at her elbow.
Wine splashed slightly. Shi Anzhi looked up and was surprised to see it was He Lan Shuang.
Helan Shuang sat down, her tone natural as she explained, “The drinks here contain pheromone catalysts. Drinking some water would be better.”
As she spoke, she turned and picked up a glass of water from a waiter’s tray, handing it to Shi Anzhi.
“Do you need it? You don’t look too well.”
Shi Anzhi paused for a moment, accepted the glass, and murmured, “Thank you.”
“Don’t mention it.” Helan Shuang smiled.
She studied Shi Anzhi up and down. This Alpha had a rather unique aura. Among the companions brought by the distinguished guests, she was dressed quite well. Shi Anzhi’s eyes were clear, unlike someone accustomed to all of this.
Helan Shuang extended her hand to Shi Anzhi. “Hello, I’m Helan Shuang.”
Shi Anzhi was momentarily stunned.
This was the first time since arriving in the Special Zone that someone had extended a hand to her as an equal.
She reached out and shook Helan Shuang’s hand. “Hello.”
She introduced herself, saying her own name. “I’m Shi Anzhi.”
Helan Shuang felt the slight calluses and strength in the Alpha’s palm, her eyes showing approval. “Your hand is very steady. Have you served in the military before?”
“No.”
Shi Anzhi shook her head. Noticing that Helan Shuang hadn’t released her hand, she exerted a little force and withdrew it.
Helan Shuang shrugged indifferently. “Sorry, I was distracted just now.”
“It’s fine.”
Shi Anzhi gazed in Shen Tingxue’s direction, watching as she chatted with someone, a slight smile on her face.
Did she truly understand Shen Tingxue? Suddenly, she couldn’t tell if the smile on Shen Tingxue’s face was genuine or not. She didn’t know what Shen Tingxue was thinking.
She took a sip of water. The unfamiliar faces and complicated environment made her feel dizzy and nauseous. The conversation with Helan Shuang gave her tense nerves a moment of respite.
Helan Shuang asked, “Are you short on money?”
Shi Anzhi frowned. “Why do you ask?”
A strange sound erupted in the venue, interrupting their conversation. An Alpha kneeling on the ground suddenly lunged at Li Mei’s Omega, his expression twisted as if he had abruptly gone into heat.
The Alpha’s owner was furious. After forcibly separating them, he demanded that Li Mei deal with her Omega, asking why it was releasing pheromones so recklessly.
Thus, Li Mei and the man began to argue.
“Xiao Ya’s scent is delightful. Clearly, it’s your dog that’s randomly going into heat. What does that have to do with me!”
Watching the scene, Shi Anzhi found it absurd.
She heard Helan Shuang chuckle beside her, as if watching children quarrel.
Yu Yiyang stepped forward, smiling as she tried to mediate. “Oh, come on, it’s my birthday today. Let’s not get so heated. Since Meimei likes your new pet so much, why don’t we play a game to liven things up?”
“What game?”
Yu Yiyang, ever the instigator, suggested, “Let’s see whose companion can release the most pleasurable pheromones. We have the latest pheromone emotion sensor here. Whoever can make the device’s pleasure index the highest wins.”
“The winner gets the latest model of a hover sports car. How about that?”
“That’s great! This sounds fun!”
“Meimei, let us smell what he’s like!”
Li Mei, of course, agreed. Many others at the venue agreed as well.
Yu Yiyang clapped her hands and immediately had someone bring in the latest pheromone emotion sensor.
Li Mei, as if teasing a puppy, used her toe to lift the male Omega’s chin from the ground. “Xiao Ya, you’re up first.”
Her tone was eerie, “Quick, let everyone smell what scent you have.”
The male Omega known as “Xiao Ya” trembled, his eyes filled with fear.
He took a deep breath.
In the next moment, an extraordinarily peculiar fragrance emanated from him.
The scent resembled that of a ripe peach, mingled with a faint, elusive sweetness of cream not particularly unique, yet the moment it was released, many of those present instinctively took a deep breath, their faces revealing an intoxicated expression.
Shen Tingxue frowned as she inhaled the aroma.
She could tell this wasn’t a natural pheromone. It had been genetically engineered, a scent meticulously crafted to scratch at the pleasure points of most people.
It could awaken the most primal of human desires.
The pleasure index on the pheromone sensor began to skyrocket wildly, eventually settling at an astonishing number.
“Oh my god! What kind of divine scent is this?” someone exclaimed dramatically. “Meimei, where did you get such a treasure?”
A smug expression spread across Li Mei’s face. “Impressive, isn’t it? My family set up a new lab. Through genetic modification, his gland has been turned into an incense burner it can release pheromones that bring pleasure to everyone, and it can even change scents.”
As she spoke, her voice took on a sweetly malicious tone. “It seems that every time he releases it, his nerve endings suffer excruciating pain. So, how about it? Isn’t it amazing? I haven’t let you down, have I?”
Her words tainted the physiological reactions of everyone present with a layer of sickness.
Most of them looked at the Omega trembling on the floor in agony, their eyes devoid of sympathy, filled only with the fervor of admiring a plaything.
Shi Anzhi’s stomach churned violently. She couldn’t quite catch the Omega’s pheromones, but the whole scene made her feel utterly disgusted.
In the R District, she had experienced beatings that nearly killed her those acts of violence were straightforward: punches, kicks, and theft. But the Special District was different. Here, the violence was more insidious and repulsive.
Next, several of the guests’ “playthings” released their pheromones, and a variety of scents drifted through the air.
Shi Anzhi had a premonition, feeling her breath growing increasingly labored.
Finally!
Li Mei’s provocative gaze landed on her.
“Your turn, Sister Tingxue.”
“Let your Alpha release some pheromones. Let us see if they’re worthy of you.”
Instantly, all eyes focused on Shi Anzhi.
Shi An’s hands unconsciously tightened. She looked at Shen Tingxue, hoping she would refuse this absurd game.
But Shen Tingxue said nothing.
She looked back at Shi Anzhi, her expression as calm as ever, making it impossible for Shi Anzhi to gauge her emotions.
Shi Anzhi’s heart ached bit by bit.
She didn’t step forward voluntarily. Under the scrutiny of so many eyes, she suddenly felt an urge to resort to violence, but she couldn’t pinpoint who to direct it at.
Who had reduced her to this state? Who should she attack?
Under everyone’s gaze, she simply stood there, motionless.
Time ticked by, second by second.
The reading on the rating device remained unchanged, still displaying the initial zero.
There were no pheromones in the air, no scent, nothing at all.
“Pfft!”
Someone in the crowd was the first to laugh.
Then, mocking laughter surged from all directions like a tidal wave.
“What’s going on? Is she even an Alpha?”
“I’m dying of laughter. Where did Tingxue find such a useless person?”
“She doesn’t even have pheromones. She’s not even fit to be a pet.”
Among the crowd, Li Mei laughed the brightest.
She looked at Shen Tingxue’s cold expression and mocked without restraint, “Sister Tingxue, the person you brought is a complete waste. She can’t even perform the most basic task of pleasing her owner.”
“Do you want me to give you something more entertaining?”
Shi Anzhi stood at the center of the crowd, like a clown being publicly executed. Dignity felt like something far, far away.
She recalled the nervous yet slightly expectant feeling she had when stepping out, and found it all utterly ridiculous.
Her heart grew cold.
