The Lost Omega Heiress is Pregnant with My Child - Chapter 19
“Miss Shen, I’ve finally found you.”
R District Station.
The moment Nian Xue saw Shi Anzhi, she keenly sensed that Shi Anzhi must be injured.
She didn’t dare to step forward for an embrace, nor did she dare to touch Shi Anzhi casually, afraid of pressing on her wounds Shi Anzhi was surely enduring the pain to keep her from worrying.
She knew it all too well.
Suppressing her tears, Nian Xue said, “Maybe we should go back. It’s not too late to turn back now. Let’s find Dr. Teng to clean and dress your wounds.”
Shi Anzhi shook her head, her expression resolute. “Impossible.”
“Ah Xue, if we miss this train, the next one won’t come for another week. We can’t afford to delay any longer.”
Her face was pale from the injury, but her thoughts were clear, her tone calm. “I really killed Ding Sha.”
“His forces will definitely retaliate.”
Shi Anzhi gave a cold, faint smile. “We can’t go back now.”
Nian Xue’s lips trembled. She didn’t even dare to imagine what would happen to Shi Anzhi’s fruit shop. Would it be vandalized in revenge?
Would Shi Anzhi’s home be destroyed?
Her presence had turned Shi Anzhi’s life upside down. Now, Shi Anzhi had nothing left but her.
Given the circumstances, how could she tell Shi Anzhi she didn’t want to go to the border hospital?
The train arrived on schedule, and they boarded.
Shortly after taking their seats, Shi Anzhi could no longer bear the pain. In front of Nian Xue, she injected the last tube of post-war supplement. She rolled up her sleeve to check the injury.
The wound had turned pale, which was strange. They would have to wait until they reached the border hospital to deal with it.
When Nian Xue saw the wound, she couldn’t hold back her tears.
While her mind was still clear, Shi Anzhi took out the pearl necklace from her pocket. “Do you remember this?”
The pearls shimmered, and the iris pattern at the center was vivid. Nian Xue stared in a daze, reaching out to touch it.
Her memory told her this necklace was important to her, yet seeing it filled her with disgust.
After a moment, Nian Xue took the necklace but only put it in her pocket, not wearing it again.
Returning the necklace to its rightful owner, Shi Anzhi felt relieved. Her strength failing, she leaned her head against the seat, breathing heavily.
She could only hope her arm wouldn’t need to be amputated.
The maglev train accelerated, and outside the window, the low, cramped houses of the slums gave way to glimpses of blue sky.
The border hospital was located at the junction of R District and the Special Zone. Through the coordination of the Red Ribbon humanitarian organization, people from R District were permitted to seek medical treatment there.
However, a tiered fee system was in place, meaning only the wealthiest from R District could afford the costs.
Shi Anzhi’s consciousness was fading, but she faintly sensed something amiss.
Having often been targeted in the past, she had some counter-surveillance awareness. Ever since they were at the station, it felt like someone had been watching them from the shadows.
Those eyes didn’t seem intent on harming them just observing so Shi Anzhi wasn’t sure if she was misinterpreting the situation.
She opened her eyes, carefully scanning every person on the train, but detected nothing unusual.
Was she just too tense?
She closed her eyes, vaguely aware of Nian Xue taking off her coat and gently draping it over her.
When she woke again from the pain, it felt as if she had entered another world. The metal and ruins of R District had vanished.
In their place were tidy streets, skyscrapers piercing the clouds, and hovercars quietly and orderly weaving along designated tracks.
Even if this was just the border of the special zone, it was already a sight unimaginable to those in the slums.
After arriving at their stop, they got off the vehicle.
Shi Anzhi took out the gold bars she had obtained from Ding Sha and registered Nian Xue for the best medical care available. They were admitted to the same hospital room.
When the doctor arrived, Nian Xue insisted that Shi Anzhi’s wounds be treated first.
The doctor examined Shi Anzhi’s injuries and began preparing for an emergency procedure, wheeling her into the operating room.
Meanwhile, a head nurse took notice of Nian Xue. With a calm expression, she informed Nian Xue that a blood test would be arranged for her.
“We need to conduct a comprehensive genetic sequence analysis of your blood to determine the cause of your physical abnormalities.”
“Miss Shen, please cooperate.”
Distracted by Shi Anzhi’s condition, Nian Xue agreed without giving it much thought.
A cold needle pierced her fair arm, and five tubes of crimson blood were drawn. The head nurse carefully stored the blood samples and left the room, advising Nian Xue to rest well.
Nian Xue sat in the room, anxiously waiting for Shi Anzhi to finish her surgery.
Three hours later, Shi Anzhi was wheeled out. The doctor had used a large amount of medication and advanced technology to stabilize her wounds. All that remained was a few days of V1-type recovery serum.
Shi Anzhi was set up with an IV drip.
A day later, she regained consciousness and opened her eyes to see Nian Xue watching her.
Overjoyed at her awakening, Nian Xue gently squeezed her hand. “Anzhi.”
Shi Anzhi smiled weakly and immediately asked, “Did the doctor say anything about your condition?”
Nian Xue shook her head. Only then did she realize something was odd, no one had come to follow up with her after the blood draw.
“They’re all so busy,” Nian Xue said, sitting beside Shi Anzhi. She gazed out the window at the unfamiliar buildings, a trace of confusion in her eyes.
“I don’t like it here at all.”
“Once you finish your treatment, let’s go back, okay?” Nian Xue suppressed her anxiety. “I don’t need to see a doctor anymore. I don’t need it.”
“I just want to be with you.”
Shi Anzhi held Nian Xue’s hand, comforting her. “It’s alright, don’t be afraid.”
“Since we’re here, we should find out what’s going on with your body.”
Nian Xue hummed in agreement and said nothing more.
Her eyelashes drooped as she silently wept inside.
That evening, fate finally caught up with them.
When they were notified to change rooms, they passed through the hospital lobby, where a bustling crowd of people came and went, creating a crowded scene.
Suddenly, the massive holographic screen in the lobby flickered with static, and the soothing landscape video that had been playing vanished.
Everyone in the lobby curiously turned to look as a processed, hoarse voice echoed through the space.
“My dear citizens, open your eyes and see clearly. Do you know what the Governor is doing with your tax money?”
The screen shifted, displaying several clips.
A ragged child fought a mutated rat larger than her head for a moldy piece of bread, with a massive garbage mountain looming behind her.
A group of workers handled industrial waste emitting toxic fumes, without any protective gear.
An Omega was dragged into a dark alley by several uniformed Alphas and beaten.
Shi Anzhi paused as she watched these scenes. These were events that repeated daily in the slums, she was all too familiar with them.
The slums were far removed from the political center, and she was unfamiliar with the notion were these stories even worth telling?
The scene shifted abruptly to the current governor delivering a passionate public speech: “Under my leadership, the empire is advancing toward unprecedented prosperity and stability.”
The irony was palpable.
Then, the video stuttered, and a recording began to play.
It was a conversation between the governor and a mysterious figure. In the call, the governor referred to the citizens as “cockroaches” and expressed hope that the Super Alpha Project would cultivate disciplined soldiers to eliminate them.
The hospital was crowded with people from all walks of life, and murmurs of unrest began to ripple through the crowd, only to be suppressed by the special police.
Strangely, the special police made no move to turn off the television, as if they, too, were anticipating something.
The processed voice spoke again, “The Super Alpha Project involves implanting cybernetics into living humans, turning them into unconscious puppet soldiers. The Shen Biotech Group has pledged allegiance to the governor and plans to marry their daughter to the governor’s son.”
Nianxue heard this, and a wave of immense dread washed over her.
She closed her eyes, as if to escape reality.
In the next moment, Shi Anzhi’s gaze was riveted to the screen by the image that appeared.
A high-definition, enlarged photograph filled the screen.
In the photo, an Omega was dressed in a pristine, flawless gown, exuding an aura of cool elegance. Her features were delicate, her eyes held a trace of indifference, and around her neck was an iris pearl necklace.
That face…
Shi Anzhi’s breath hitched.
“The engagement ceremony between the governor’s son, Jiang Qi, and Shen Tingxue has already been held in secret. After the marriage, the Shen family will provide the governor with genetic samples of the populace to screen for experimental subjects for the Super Alpha Project.”
She looked at Nian Xue, whose eyes were filled with sorrow.
There was no going back now.
The cold, breathtaking face on the television slowly overlapped with Nian Xue’s.
They were identical.
Shen Tingxue.
So this was Nian Xue’s real name.
So, she was engaged to someone else.
Shi Anzhi struggled to breathe. Even the necklace she had risked her life to retrieve might be the very one from Nian Xue’s engagement to her fiancé.
Fate had played another cruel trick on her.
At the same time, a group of people approached them.
A middle-aged woman in a white lab coat led the way, followed by several special police officers and nurses. They rushed in with agitated, almost ecstatic expressions.
The lead doctor adjusted her gold-rimmed glasses, her gaze fixed intently on Nian Xue.
She bowed deeply to Nian Xue and exclaimed in an extremely reverent tone, “Miss Shen, we’ve finally found you!”
