- The Junior Sister Isn't Flirtatious At All; It's All Their Fault for Being Too Seductive
- Chapter 81 - Puppet Citizens
Jiang Luoyue took out a passage jade slip and placed it in his hand.
Yun Jian looked at the small token in his palm. “In areas where demonic energy is dense, spiritual power is difficult to use, but within the Nether Abyss, I can make an exception for you.”
Jiang Luoyue’s eyes flickered with surprise. She hadn’t expected the Demon Sovereign to be so accommodating.
After tucking the jade slip away, Yun Jian reached out, wrapped his arm around her waist, and pulled her into his embrace. He lowered his head to kiss her deeply. Jiang Luoyue tilted her head back to meet him obediently. To Yun Jian, she felt remarkably like the kitten he once raised; his hand moved from the back of her neck to the top of her head, stroking her hair gently.
Soft and fluffy… just like a little cat.
When he finally released her, his gaze was so tender it looked as if he wanted to drown her in his eyes. Jiang Luoyue reached out and gave his waist a playful squeeze. His waist was actually quite lean, but because he always insisted on wearing layer upon layer of heavy black robes, he rarely looked so agile.
“Go find your Senior Brother,” Yun Jian said. Together, they went to fetch Li Changting.
Li Changting was already packed and ready. Yun Jian prepared to lead them out of the abyss.
“The Nether Abyss seems quite similar to Gu Wangfeng’s Tai-Xu Realm,” Li Changting remarked. “One can only enter or leave with the Master’s permission.”
“You know Gu Wangfeng?” Yun Jian raised an eyebrow. “Is that fellow actually still alive?”
“Oh, I forgot to mention—Gu Wangfeng is also one of Junior Sister’s partners,” Li Changting added.
Come to think of it, both Gu Wangfeng and Yun Jian were Great Transformation stage cultivators. One wondered who was actually stronger.
Yun Jian’s lips twitched as he looked at Jiang Luoyue. “Your taste is certainly consistent. You either pick ‘young talents’ or old monsters with high cultivation like us.”
“It takes two to tango. If you weren’t willing, I wouldn’t have forced you,” Jiang Luoyue hummed playfully. Yun Jian, finding no retort, simply turned his head away and ignored her.
After leaving the Nether Abyss, they appeared on the back mountain of the South City.
“I wonder where Wenqiu and the others are,” Jiang Luoyue muttered, taking out her communication jade to contact them. As they descended the mountain, before they even reached the foot, they saw a massive crowd of simply-dressed townspeople surging toward them.
“What’s happening?” Li Changting was startled. There were scores of citizens, and they were all running—clearly not a typical group out for hunting or gathering.
Jiang Luoyue suddenly noticed they were all wielding weapons: axes, kitchen knives, shovels. They were swarming toward them.
“Are they trying to ambush us? No—wait, they have no expressions!” Jiang Luoyue realized with a shock.
“They are puppets,” Yun Jian stated. “It’s the most basic Puppet Manipulation Art that any demonic cultivator knows. They are all dead people.”
Jiang Luoyue finally understood why she had felt something was off. Every citizen they had spoken to previously seemed to know they were newcomers, even if they hadn’t met many people. Either the citizens were incredibly close-knit, or they shared a special connection where information known by one was instantly transmitted to the rest.
Li Changting was still puzzled. “These people have no cultivation; they’re just puppets. How could they possibly hope to stop us?”
Isn’t this a wasted effort?
“Likely to monitor us or to stall for time,” Yun Jian guessed, though he too found it a bit strange.
The reason soon became clear. As the puppet citizens rushed forward, they carried a wave of intense, suffocating demonic energy. However, the mastermind behind this certainly hadn’t counted on Jiang Luoyue clinging to such a massive “thigh” as Yun Jian.
With a wave of his hand, Yun Jian dissipated the thick demonic mist. The puppets instantly lost their borrowed life-force and collapsed to the ground like limp rags.
“Can you reach your companion?” Yun Jian turned to her.
After a long pause, Yue Wenqiu finally responded: “Come to the North City.”
As the demonic energy from the puppets settled on the surrounding trees and ground, it began to sizzle and emit black smoke.
“This demonic energy was cursed with a corrosive property,” Yun Jian explained. “If it had landed on you, it would have corroded the spiritual qi of an immortal cultivator.”
Outside the Nether Abyss, the demonic energy was thin enough that they could finally use their spiritual powers freely. Li Changting gasped, “The Demon race truly has sinister intentions.”
Yun Jian shot him a flat, unamused look.
Li Changting immediately waved his hands in apology. “Oh! I didn’t mean you. The Sovereign is naturally far above the common demonic rabble.”
Seeing Li Changting’s mix of cowardice and quick wit, Yun Jian couldn’t help but chuckle. “Let’s go then. Let us find your ‘partner’.” His tone was odd, and he shot a resentful look at Jiang Luoyue. She simply gave him a cheeky grin.
The trio headed to the north of the city, where they found Yue Wenqiu and Jiang Luoxing being besieged by several demonic cultivators. The leader’s cultivation was on par with Yue Wenqiu’s.
“Is that the North City Lord?” Jiang Luoyue asked. In her mind, the City Lord should be the one with the highest cultivation.
“No. But those two attacking the boy are the North City Lord’s subordinates,” Yun Jian frowned. “As for the leader, I haven’t seen him before.”
As they drew near, the leader launched an attack at Yue Wenqiu. Jiang Luoyue flew forward on her sword, moving like a bolt of lightning to intercept the blow.
“Early Soul Transformation stage, and on the verge of a breakthrough… another fine specimen has arrived.” The masked leader’s eyes lit up when he saw Jiang Luoyue. “Quite a beauty. Before we turn you into a pill, you can serve as a Furnace for us.”
“A man who doesn’t even dare show his face shouldn’t bark so loudly,” Jiang Luoyue said coldly. Her peach branch transformed into a sharp blade, and with a flick of her wrist, she sent a powerful sword-qi whistling through the air.
The masked man wasn’t afraid, though he had to scramble to dodge the strike.
Yun Jian, seeing that the man’s cultivation was far below his own, flew to Jiang Luoyue’s side and raised his hand to attack. Realizing the overwhelming power of his new opponent, the masked man turned to flee.
“Stop him!” Yue Wenqiu shouted.
Even without his prompt, the others knew what to do. Jiang Luoyue had spent her time previously studying the artifacts Yue Wenqiu had given her. She quickly retrieved one from her storage pouch: the Nine-Yang Demon-Catching Net. Specifically designed to counter demons, its “Yang” energy clashed violently with demonic qi.
The net expanded rapidly, draping over the masked man and tightening instantly, trapping him. He struggled desperately but couldn’t break free. Meanwhile, the two subordinates attacking Jiang Luoxing—named Heijin and Heilin, who had served the North City Lord Li Qing for years—were also quickly apprehended.
“Fine. No need for formalities; let’s begin the interrogation,” Yun Jian said, dusting off his sleeves. Having said that, he simply stood back; a Demon Sovereign doesn’t perform interrogations himself, after all. He would leave the dirty work to them.
Only then did Yue Wenqiu and Jiang Luoxing turn to look at the newcomer, utterly confused as to who this powerful man was.
