- Chapter 57 - The Joy of Three Husbands
Lin Xi felt he couldn’t bear to watch any longer. He stepped outside and gave a strict order: no fluffy, furry demon tribes were allowed to appear before Jiang Luoyue. Only snake demons, turtle demons, or fish demons—those with scales—were permitted near her.
Unaware that Lin Xi’s sudden exit was specifically to thwart her love for fluff, Jiang Luoyue waited patiently for her meal.
Soon, the food arrived.
“Eh? Where’s that little cat-eared demon from before?” Jiang Luoyue noticed the demons serving the food today were covered in scales. They weren’t cute or fluffy at all; in fact, they radiated a rather gloomy aura.
Lin Xi glanced at her, glad he had taken precautions. “She’s busy elsewhere. Just eat.”
Jiang Luoyue nodded, though her face was a mask of unconcealed disappointment. She really wanted a cute kitten.
“By the way, where’s my little turtle? You didn’t leave it behind at Fengman Pavilion that day, did you?” She finally realized something was missing—the noisy little turtle that usually demanded a massive bowl of food at every meal was nowhere to be seen.
“How could I?” Lin Xi sighed. “When I went to the Secret Realm, it insisted on following me, so I brought it along. But then it fell into a coma and hasn’t woken up since.”
For some reason, the little turtle had been hell-bent on following him into the Demon Secret Realm. Lin Xi had figured he was just picking herbs and a turtle wouldn’t be in the way; if things got dangerous, they could just bolt.
But while picking the Seven-Star Grass among the ruins of the Divine Beasts, the turtle’s body had suddenly flared with heat before it passed out. Li Changting had examined it but found nothing physically wrong, leaving them at a loss.
“I’ll go see it. Where is it?” Jiang Luoyue asked.
“Eat first. Li Changting said it’s fine.” Lin Xi pressed her hand down to keep her seated, then quickly retracted his fingers. His ear tips felt a bit warm—her skin was so incredibly soft and smooth.
“Fine,” Jiang Luoyue agreed. “But doesn’t your tribe have medical cultivators? Senior Brother Li is human, after all; he might not fully understand a turtle’s condition.”
Lin Xi paused; he hadn’t considered that. “Eat first, we’ll talk later.”
After dinner, Jiang Luoyue followed Li Changting to see the turtle. Li Changting even brought a piece of fried crispy pork—the turtle’s favorite—and waved it in front of its nose.
“See? No reaction,” Li Changting said.
“Its body seems to be shrouded in a layer of spiritual energy, isolating it from us. It’s very strange,” Lin Xi noted.
Host, the System suggests taking the little turtle back to the Divine Beast Ruins in the Secret Realm, the System’s voice suddenly rang out.
Is it being influenced by a remnant soul of a Divine Beast? Jiang Luoyue asked, but the System went silent.
She immediately proposed going back to the Secret Realm. Lin Xi, however, gave her a sideways look. “No.”
“Why not?”
Lin Xi suddenly became awkward. “The ruins aren’t easy to enter. I can only get in because I carry the bloodline of the Nine-Tailed Fox. The little turtle managed it probably because the Split-Shell Turtle clan also shares a trace of divine blood.”
“So what now? Can you take it back in?” she asked.
“Unless you were to become Dao companions with a demon possessing a divine bloodline… that level of intimacy would allow you to bypass the restrictions together,” Lin Xi said, his voice trailing off suggestively.
Jiang Luoxing’s fist clenched. “What did you just say?!” First humans, now even a fox was trying to snatch his sister away.
Lin Xi gave a disdainful huff. “What are you getting worked up for? Wouldn’t being my little brother be an honor?” He was the Lord of the Demon Tribe; countless people would kill to be his companion.
Jiang Luoyue watched his smug little expression and chuckled. “The turtle seems fine for now. We’ll discuss it later. Lord Demon King, we won’t trouble you any further today.”
She then asked the System for two Realm-Passing Pills. “To thank you for looking after us these past few days, take these. We’ll just split the profits fifty-fifty.”
She held out a small jade bottle. Lin Xi froze, not immediately taking it. He had assumed she would agree to his suggestion—she clearly loved his original form, after all. And he was powerful, the youngest Soul Transformation cultivator in the history of the Demon Realm.
“Take it.” Jiang Luoyue smiled gently, acting as if she didn’t notice his internal shock. She grabbed his hand and pressed the bottle into his palm.
Lin Xi’s mind went blank, save for one thought: Her hand is so small and soft.
“We’ll need to impose on your hospitality for a few more days until the turtle wakes up. Alright, Lord Demon King, back to work with you.” With that, she gently nudged him out the door.
Lin Xi stood dazed in the hallway. He couldn’t believe it—he, the most handsome man in the Demon Realm, had actually been rejected.
“Junior Sister, was it okay to just kick him out like that?” Li Changting asked cautiously.
“Are you crazy? I won’t allow him to be her Dao companion,” Jiang Luoxing grumbled. “Kicking him out was the right move!”
“But we’re literally living in his house,” Li Changting pointed out, looking a bit hurt by Luoxing’s hostility.
“I still don’t agree!” Jiang Luoxing crossed his arms.
“Then what about the turtle? When will it wake up?” Li Changting asked again.
As Jiang Luoxing glared at him, Jiang Luoyue reached out and patted Luoxing’s head. “Senior Brother, I know what you’re worried about. Don’t worry, I have a plan.”
“That’s good,” Li Changting sighed.
“Senior Brother, it must be hard for you to manage Luoxing while Wenqiu is away.” Jiang Luoyue exchanged some high-quality herbs from the System. “Here, take these for your practice.”
“Thank you, Junior Sister!” Li Changting cradled the herbs like treasure. Being able to stay by her side every day was enough to make him happy.
“Who needs ‘managing’? Am I not well-behaved?” Jiang Luoxing complained, feeling like he was being treated like a child.
“I didn’t say anything,” Jiang Luoyue laughed. “But I actually like you just the way you are.”
She was starting to truly appreciate the “joy” ancient men must have felt with multiple partners. Watching these handsome young men get jealous and compete for her attention like little cats and dogs—who wouldn’t be entertained?
