- The Junior Sister Isn't Flirtatious At All; It's All Their Fault for Being Too Seductive
- Chapter 44 - All That Hard-Earned Money, Gone
Jiang Luoyue needed to feign illness for a few more days, and since Li Changting had locked himself away to refine pills with no end in sight, they were in no rush to leave.
Yue Wenqiu woke up early to cultivate. Since they had to stay for a while and he had nothing else to do, he figured he might as well focus on his progress.
Jiang Luoyue, on the other hand, loved sleeping in. Even when she wasn’t fully asleep, she found it impossible to leave the warmth of her soft bedding.
Out in the courtyard, Jiang Luoxing and the little turtle were soaking up the sun. The turtle felt warm and cozy, drifting into a daze, when Jiang Luoxing began poking it with his finger. The little turtle wobbled, its center of gravity shifting precariously, forcing it to plant its claws firmly on the table to stay upright.
Finding it to be an entertaining toy, Jiang Luoxing poked it again.
Though naturally timid, the little turtle couldn’t endure being toyed with indefinitely. It stretched its neck out, attempting to nip at Jiang Luoxing. “You bully! I’m trying to sleep!”
“Who sleeps in the middle of the day?” Jiang Luoxing laughed, poking it again. Since the turtle’s neck wasn’t very long and its movements were a bit sluggish, it couldn’t land a single bite.
“Hahahaha…”
Infuriated, the little turtle’s squeals of protest turned into loud wails. Seeing it cry so piteously, Jiang Luoxing quickly picked it up. “Alright, alright, I’ll stop teasing you. I’ll make you something delicious tonight.”
Only then did the little turtle stop crying. It wiped its eyes with its tiny claws and lay obediently against his chest, looking up at him.
“Really? You promise not to lie?” its voice was small, still trembling with a post-cry hiccup.
“I promise,” Jiang Luoxing coaxed with a smile. “I used to think you weren’t as cute as that fox, but I’ve realized you’re actually quite fun.”
“Who’s the fox?” the turtle asked, tilting its head.
“A pure white, fluffy fox Luoyue rescued before. It was much cuter than you. I was even thinking of using its shed fur to make a scarf for Luoyue,” Jiang Luoxing remarked. “But it ran away. It was while chasing it that Luoyue fell into the formation and saved you.”
“Did the beautiful sister not form a contract with it?” the turtle asked.
“No. It was like you—it didn’t want to, and Luoyue didn’t force it.” Jiang Luoxing rummaged through his storage pouch, mentally planning tonight’s menu.
The little turtle’s affection for Jiang Luoyue grew even more. It still didn’t quite dare to fully trust humans or enter a contract, but it was willing to protect her. Its clan had a high affinity for natural spiritual energy, allowing them to cultivate rapidly. The little turtle had been practicing every night; it was already at the late stage of Foundation Establishment and would soon reach the Golden Core stage. Its shell was getting stronger every day!
“She won’t force you, but I will.” Jiang Luoxing’s smile suddenly looked dark and menacing to the little turtle.
The turtle reflexively retreated into its shell, only peeking out tentatively to gauge his expression. “What… what are you going to do?” its voice shook.
As Jiang Luoxing’s hand slowly approached, the turtle’s heart thudded wildly. However, his hand merely came to rest gently on its head.
“I hope you’ll give it some serious thought. Luoyue really is wonderful.”
The little turtle remained still under his touch, feeling a warmth spread through its heart.
“Alright, stop bullying the little turtle and focus on your cultivation,” Jiang Luoyue said, stepping into the courtyard. Not seeing Yue Wenqiu, she guessed he was in his room practicing.
Jiang Luoxing scratched his head. “I was just thinking about tonight’s menu.”
Jiang Luoyue huffed. Jiang Luoxing leaned in close. “Sister… I want to engage in Dual Cultivation.”
Jiang Luoyue glared at him. “What are you talking about!”
The little turtle stared at them, its head turning back and forth. What are they talking about? Why are they hiding things from me?
Jiang Luoxing blinked innocently.
Unable to stay mad at him, Jiang Luoyue eventually nodded, though she offered a reminder: “You still need to keep your feet on the ground when it comes to cultivation.”
She had always felt that this Dual Cultivation method was too defiant of the natural order. While others labored for thousands of years to ascend, surely she couldn’t just lie in bed every day and reach immortality?
After communicating with her System, she had learned that as the men’s love and possessiveness deepened, the speed of cultivation would actually slow down. Furthermore, if she only loved them and lacked compassion for the world, her progress would be hindered. A cultivator’s journey was meant to be a millennial-long process of refining one’s heart—learning to love individuals, but also to love all living beings.
Jiang Luoxing pouted, though he actually had been working hard in secret.
The little turtle watched the entire exchange, its tail wagging curiously. Hearing Jiang Luoyue’s words, it nodded solemnly. “Yes, cultivation must be grounded.”
Jiang Luoxing reached out and flipped the turtle onto its back.
The little turtle flailed its four limbs, unable to right itself. “Aaah! I hate you! You’re so petty! Waaa!”
“Immature,” Jiang Luoyue sighed, tapping Jiang Luoxing on the head before flipping the turtle back over.
Just as the atmosphere turned harmonious, a violent explosion rocked the air. The little turtle dived into Jiang Luoyue’s arms in fright. She reflexively caught it and looked toward the source of the noise.
“It’s Eldest Senior Brother’s room!” Jiang Luoyue realized instantly. Something must have gone wrong with Li Changting’s pill-refining.
She ran toward his room with the turtle in her arms, Jiang Luoxing following close behind. Before she could even knock, the door swung open. Li Changting stepped out, his face covered in soot and his hair blown out into a charred mess.
He looked at Jiang Luoyue, attempting to greet her, but only a puff of black smoke escaped his mouth. “Hey… cough, cough… Junior Sister.”
“Eldest Senior Brother, are you alright?” Jiang Luoyue wanted to step closer but hesitated. He looked… incredibly dirty.
Seeing her hesitant, slightly repulsed expression, Li Changting felt a surge of grievance. He pouted slightly, though it was so subtle she didn’t notice. He immediately cast a Cleansing Spell, and in an instant, he was spotless and refreshed.
“I’m fine. The furnace just exploded,” Li Changting said, stepping aside so she could see the room.
The furnace was shattered and useless; he would have to buy a new one later. However, Jiang Luoyue noticed several bottles arranged on a low table. “Are these your results from the past two days?”
Li Changting nodded, unable to hide the pride in his eyes. “Yes. I have six bottles of pills to sell, and three bottles for our own use.”
“It’s just that the money from the sale… will probably only be enough to buy a new furnace.” The thought made him a bit sad. All that hard-earned money would be gone in an instant due to a sudden accident.
“It’s okay! We can earn more later!” Jiang Luoyue felt a momentary pang of disappointment, but it vanished quickly. With her Eldest Senior Brother’s high success rate, they would never have to worry about food or clothes again!
