The Investment Mogul Calls Himself my Husband - Chapter 5
Chapter 5: Keeping the Appointment
Su Yi had just tucked away the termination contract when the door was pushed open from the outside. Police officers walked in and produced an arrest warrant.
“Zhou Bopi, you are under arrest.”
Before Zhou Bopi could even react, he was pressed onto the desk again, handcuffed, and taken away directly.
Su Yi stood in place for a moment without leaving, unsure of what was happening.
He hadn’t even finished gathering all the evidence, and saying the video was being uploaded just now was merely to scare “the Skinner.” Was Zhou Bopi being taken away now because someone else had reported him?
While Su Yi was wondering, Huo Yang walked in.
“Once Zhou Bopi goes in this time, he won’t be coming out. You can immediately termin—”
Huo Yang saw Qian Xu, walked over, and at a glance saw the newly signed termination contract on the desk with Qian Xu’s name on it.
“You’ve already terminated?” Huo Yang looked at Qian Xu with wide, round eyes, a face full of disbelief.
If Qian Xu could terminate the contract himself, then what was the point of having Zhuang Qingyuan!
And… what had he been doing, running back and forth busy for most of the day?
“It’s you?” Su Yi looked at the person in front of him, who had a very cute baby face, and recognized him as the one who bought a crepe last night. He hadn’t expected to meet him here again.
Could this person be a police officer too?
But he didn’t look like one; perhaps because of the baby face, he seemed too youthful. Su Yi looked at the man with a hint of curiosity.
“You…” Huo Yang’s gaze swept toward the termination contract in Qian Xu’s hand, but he suddenly saw blood flowing from the left wrist. Drops of blood were falling and dripping onto the floor. He said in a panic: “You… your hand is bleeding. Why is it bleeding?”
Su Yi glanced at his wrist. He had used too much force earlier, and the wound had split open slightly. Su Yi fished out two Band-Aids from his pocket and applied them in a cross: “It’s just a little blood. If there’s nothing else, I’ll be leaving first.”
After Su Yi finished speaking, he pulled down his sleeve and left with the termination contract.
When Qian Xu was applying the Band-Aids, Huo Yang had seen the jagged wound on the wrist. Now, only four words occupied his mind: Slitting wrists to commit suicide!
This wouldn’t do; this was no small matter. He had to go back and tell Zhuang Qingyuan.
The Band-Aids’ blood-stanching effect was quite good. By the time Su Yi took the subway back to the primary school entrance, it was no longer bleeding.
Su Yi replaced them with new Band-Aids and fixed them in place.
On the subway, he contacted his manager from his previous life, Wang Xia.
Wang Xia was his old classmate, his partner, his best friend, and the person he trusted most in his previous life.
Together, they had founded “Yi-Xia Studio.” Su Yi had checked just now; after he passed away, Wang Xia had issued an announcement saying the studio would be maintained forever, but would never sign anyone else.
Because of his departure, Wang Xia had even directly announced her retirement from the industry!
Wang Xia was tidying up things at the studio when suddenly, with a “ding-dong,” her private email received a message.
The content of the message was only one sentence, asking her to go to the entrance of Cloud Primary School.
Wang Xia stared at that message for several seconds in shock, her mind going blank. When she recovered, her eyes were already moist. Only she and Su Yi knew about this email address.
Crucially, the opening was that most familiar “Jie” (older sister)—it was Su Yi’s habit when sending messages.
Wang Xia didn’t have time to think much. Regardless of whether it was real or fake, a prank or a bug, she had to go take a look. So, she grabbed her car keys and hurriedly left the studio.
“What’s wrong with Sister Wang Xia? Why is she in such a rush?”
“Don’t know. Her eyes were even a bit red.”
“Stop looking. Pack up the things; we’re leaving.”
“I’m so reluctant to let go. Why did Brother Su Yi have to go? I still can’t accept it.”
“Brother Su Yi was too good to us normally. I don’t want to work anywhere else at all.”
“Sigh, there’s no way around it. No one wanted this.”
……
At Cloud Primary School, Wang Xia parked the car, but she didn’t see anyone at the school gate.
“So it really was a prank.”
Wang Xia slumped over the steering wheel in disappointment, but that feeling… it clearly felt like Su Yi!
In the end, Wang Xia decided to get out of the car and check. Just in case!
She stood at the school gate for a long time. A few people passed by, but they approached and then left; not a single person came forward to speak with her.
Wang Xia’s excited heart plummeted!
She even began to doubt if that email was a hallucination born of her daydreaming. How could someone who had left possibly send her a message again!
She lowered her head with a bitter smile, thinking she might just… miss him too much. A single tear fell and splashed onto the ground.
“Jie!”
Just as Wang Xia was in despair, a voice came from behind. It was similar, but it sounded… not quite the same.
Wang Xia was afraid it was an auditory hallucination she was producing. She froze there, not moving an inch, not even daring to turn her head to look.
“Jie, it’s me.”
Su Yi looked at Wang Xia’s stiff back, his nose feeling a bit sour.
The moment she heard the voice again, Wang Xia turned around abruptly, only to see a completely unfamiliar face.
The light that had finally been rekindled in her eyes slowly dimmed again!
Su Yi looked at the once-glamorous top manager of the entertainment industry. At this moment, her eyes were rimmed with red and full of desolation; the spirit of her entire person seemed to have been sucked away instantly.
“Jie, it’s me. I’m back.”
“Su…”
As soon as Wang Xia opened her mouth, tears burst forth first. The face had changed, but she recognized the eyes of the person opposite her—those were Su Yi’s eyes.
“Su… Su Yi…”
The emotional breakdown came so fast that she was caught off guard, unable to do anything but look at the person in front of her and let the tears fall uncontrollably.
It had been a month, and she had been unable to accept Su Yi’s departure!
Tears had welled up countless times, but she had endured and held them back. Now, she could finally cry!
Looking at Wang Xia, whose emotions were so out of control, Su Yi’s own heart felt stifled.
He took out a tissue to help Wang Xia wipe her tears: “I’m back. Don’t cry anymore.”
Wang Xia took the tissue to wipe them herself, shook her head, and said: “I’m happy.”
The tears still wouldn’t stop falling.
Su Yi just stood there quietly, accompanying Wang Xia. After a long time, Wang Xia’s emotions finally calmed down.
Su Yi: “Tired from crying? I’ll make a crepe for you to eat in a bit.”
“Where are you going to make a crepe?” Wang Xia laughed through her tears.
“Let’s go. That’s my stall.” Su Yi tilted his head, glanced at his stall, and led Wang Xia over. “Business is good today; I’ve sold several. It seems I have a talent for selling crepes.”
Wang Xia: “When did you come back? Why didn’t you contact me sooner?”
“Quite a while ago,” Su Yi said. “I just woke up yesterday.”
“What happened?”
“Don’t know. When I woke up, it was like this!”
“I’m called Qian Xu now. I have a sister I depend on, and a young nephew… Xiao Le goes to school here.” Su Yi pointed to the primary school nearby.
Wang Xia watched Su Yi tidying the stall: “Don’t bother tidying. Come back with me.”
“I said I’d make you a crepe. You haven’t eaten a crepe I made yet; they’re quite delicious, you must try one.” Su Yi quickly set things in order and began spreading the batter. “Besides, I still have to pick up Xiao Le from school.”
Wang Xia watched Su Yi spread the crepe in silence. She was very familiar with the technique; she had accompanied Su Yi back when he went to learn it.
“What are your plans for the future?” Wang Xia asked.
“What do you think my plans are, Jie?” Su Yi looked up at Wang Xia, smiled, and said, “Jie, I really need to make money now. Moreover, I’m no longer alone; I have a family. In the future, I have to support my sister and Xiao Le.”
Hearing Su Yi say he had a family, Wang Xia froze for a second. Su Yi had finally escaped the Su family, but she hadn’t expected it to happen in this manner!
She was all too clear about Su Yi’s situation in the Su family. Ever since Su Yi’s mother passed away, Su Yi had no home!
Therefore, Su Yi had a nearly pathological obsession with ‘home’; the more he lacked the warmth of a home, the more he craved to possess it.
Even if that home had long ago excluded him!
Even if Su Yi’s father, Su Xinghan, spent the money Su Yi earned while still berating and cursing Su Yi for being unfilial!
Su Yi had never been able to make up his mind to make a clean break with that family!
Now it was for the best; no longer involved with that family, Su Yi was finally free.
Wang Xia took a key out of her bag: “Return this to its original owner. This place has a yard and is suitable for living with a child. I’ve been carrying this key with me since the day you gave it to me; it’s perfect to use now.”
Su Yi glanced at it: “That was a birthday gift for you.”
“There will be chances to give me gifts in the future, won’t there? I’ll wait for you to give me an even better birthday gift.” Wang Xia placed the key into Su Yi’s hand.
Su Yi didn’t refuse again and gripped the key. He truly did need this house right now.
“Xiao Yi.” Wang Xia looked at Su Yi with a bit of a daze. Although the face was different, the expressions and movements were indeed those of the person she was most familiar with.
“Hmm.” Su Yi looked up at Wang Xia. “Jie, from now on, I am Qian Xu.”
“Right, I should call you Qian Xu.” Wang Xia also felt it was better to change how she addressed him, especially so the Su family wouldn’t find out Su Yi was still around.
“Hmm.” Su Yi wrapped the crepe and handed it over. “Try it.”
Wang Xia took it and took a bite. Given her current mood, she couldn’t actually taste what it was like, but because Su Yi made it: “It’s delicious.”
Wang Xia suddenly remembered something and said: “After your accident, Zhuang Qingyuan has been investigating that car crash. When the owner of the vehicle responsible was found, he smelled of alcohol and was in a deep coma, so it was initially classified as an accidental incident.”
“But Zhuang Qingyuan didn’t believe it was an accident. He kept people at the hospital watching that driver. Later, the person actually woke up. Zhuang Qingyuan found out the crash wasn’t a simple accident but was man-made, but… the driver’s injuries were too heavy; no more information could be questioned before the person passed away.”
“Zhuang Qingyuan?” Su Yi hadn’t expected the news he saw to have been uncovered by Zhuang Qingyuan. “But… why would it be Zhuang Qingyuan!”
“You don’t know either? I’ve been wondering what was going on between you and Zhuang Qingyuan.” Wang Xia looked at Su Yi’s reaction. “Don’t tell me you don’t know him.”
Su Yi: “I really don’t. I’ve only met him once, at that external cocktail party the Zhuang family held. You were there too at the time; just that once.”
“Then that is truly strange. You don’t know… when you had the accident, Zhuang Qingyuan nearly went mad.” Wang Xia couldn’t figure it out, her face full of confusion. “I thought…”
“I thought you were dating Zhuang Qingyuan behind my back and kept even me in the dark!”
Su Yi laughed: “How is that possible? If I were dating, even if I didn’t tell anyone else, I would definitely tell you!”
“Otherwise, who would I share it with!”
“I thought so too. Then it’s just too strange!” Conventionally speaking, they were total strangers. Wang Xia couldn’t see through or understand what was going on with Zhuang Qingyuan.
Ding-ling-ling…
“School’s out! School’s out!”
The school dismissal bell rang, and Su Yi turned to look at the main school gate.
“Let’s go. I’ll go with you to pick up your little nephew.” Wang Xia walked toward the school gate while eating the crepe.
“Uncle!” Xiao Le ran out of the school gate and pounced into Su Yi’s arms like the wind.
Wang Xia looked at Xiao Le’s beautiful little face: “Xiao Le… looks just like you.”
“Hmm, a nephew takes after his uncle.” Su Yi picked Xiao Le up in one motion.
Xiao Le, held by his uncle again, looked at Wang Xia and asked happily: “Sister, are you my uncle’s girlfriend?”
Su Yi pinched Xiao Le’s fleshy face: “Sister is married and has a little treasure about your age.”
“Xiao Le is so cute; Ji Heng is too stifling.” Wang Xia looked at Xiao Le and smiled. “Xiao Le, Sister is Uncle’s friend—his best friend—so we are friends from now on too, okay?”
“Okay! Uncle’s friends are Xiao Le’s too.” Xiao Le patted his little chest in reply.
Wang Xia: “Qian Xu, bring Sister and Xiao Le to move over early. That way we’ll be close by. I can bring Ji Heng over to visit, and Ji Heng will have a little playmate.”
