The Investment Mogul Calls Himself my Husband - Chapter 3
Chapter 3: Suspicion
After Su Yi left Fog and Clouds, he took a taxi to the snack street. Qian Xu’s older sister, Qian Qian, would be setting up her stall there at this hour.
Qian Qian and Qian Xu had relied on each other since childhood and shared a deep sibling bond. Thus, Qian Qian and his young nephew, Xiao Le, were the ones Qian Xu cared about most and was most reluctant to leave behind.
As for Su Yi, he had no relatives other than his mother; now that he had two more relatives, it felt quite good!
“Why come over at this time? Your face is so deathly pale—have you gone another day without eating!” Seeing Qian Xu arrive, his sister wiped her hands and went to meet him, seeing at a glance that his complexion was poor. “No matter how busy you are, you must remember to eat. Go sit down; I’ll make you a jianbing guozi (savory crepe) to pad your stomach first.”
“Okay.” Su Yi looked at Qian Xu’s sister, Qian Qian. She was only thirty years old, yet she looked much more exhausted than her peers; there were even a few strands of white hair on her head.
Qian Qian got divorced last year because her ex-husband cheated. After the divorce, she raised the child alone and couldn’t work a regular job, so she quit and started a snack stall. This way, she could earn some money while looking after the child.
It was hard work. To pick up Xiao Le from school, Qian Qian would set up her stall at the entrance of Xiao Le’s primary school during the day, and only at night would she move to the snack street to work until very late.
“Uncle.” Seeing Qian Xu standing there in a daze, Xiao Le tugged at his uncle’s hem.
“Hmm?” Su Yi returned to his senses and looked down at the seven-year-old Xiao Le. This little face really looked exactly like Qian Xu—a cool and handsome kid. Perhaps this is what they mean by “a nephew takes after his uncle.”
Su Yi squatted down and directly picked up Xiao Le, who was already quite tall: “Come, Uncle will accompany you while you do your homework.”
“Okay!” Xiao Le obediently threw his arms around Su Yi’s neck. His uncle hadn’t held him in a long time.
Xiao Le usually sat on a small stool next to the stall to do his homework, with a small desk lamp placed in front of him for light.
Watching Qian Qian’s busy and exhausted figure and seeing that Xiao Le could only study in such a noisy environment, Su Yi felt a bit of a sour ache in his heart.
He lowered his eyes slightly; he had to find a way to make money!
But the first step to making money was to terminate the contract!
As long as that “bully contract” existed, no matter how hard Qian Xu worked, he wouldn’t get much money in the end.
Therefore, Su Yi was determined not to go to the audition tomorrow. At the very least, he wouldn’t take any roles until the contract was terminated.
“Eat this first, then I’ll boil you a bowl of egg noodles. You need some hot soup,” Qian Qian said, placing the freshly made, steaming crepe into Su Yi’s hand before turning back to her work.
The calluses on Qian Qian’s hand brushed against Su Yi’s hand. Had his sister’s hands become this rough without him noticing?
“Sis, I’m going to terminate my contract with the company. From now on, I’ll help you sell crepes,” Su Yi said to Qian Qian.
Su Yi wasn’t speaking nonsense; he really knew how to make crepes. This was because he once played a character who was a street vendor.
For that role, he specifically went to learn how to make them. He learned quickly, and the master even praised him for having a natural talent for it.
In particular, the crepes he spread were perfectly round, as if drawn with a compass; the director had even given the crepe a special close-up shot.
Qian Qian laughed after hearing this: “You’ve never made a crepe before; how can you help me sell them?”
“And also… can that contract really be terminated?”
Qian Xu had mentioned wanting to terminate the contract once a while ago, but hadn’t brought it up again afterward. Qian Qian guessed it probably wasn’t easy, but she couldn’t help, so she could only worry and didn’t dare ask too much!
“Don’t worry, Sis. It can be terminated,” Su Yi nodded and said calmly.
Seeing how certain Qian Xu looked, Qian Qian felt a bit more at ease.
The reason Qian Qian was worried was that ever since Qian Xu signed with that company, he had not only become thinner and thinner but was also unhappy all day long. It had been a long time since she had seen Qian Xu with such a relaxed, brow-unfurled expression like today.
As long as the contract could be terminated, it was fine. If he wanted to sell crepes, that was fine too—as long as her brother was happy and safe.
“Boss, one crepe please.”
“Okay, coming.” Su Yi stood up and said to Qian Qian, “Sis, let me handle this one.”
Before Qian Qian could react, Qian Xu had already walked over, picked up the ladle, and started spreading the batter. His movements weren’t just for show; they were very practiced, looking like a real professional!
“This crepe is spread so roundly!” the person said. “Boss, this handsome young man has great technique. Where did you hire such a professional helper?”
“This is my brother,” Qian Qian replied with a smile.
“Oh, so it’s your brother! He’s really handsome—looks just like a movie star!” the person praised sincerely while paying.
Without even leaving the stall, they took a bite and commented: “Boss, your brother’s crepes are good. Delicious!”
After the person left, Qian Qian asked: “Xiao Xu, when did you learn this?”
Su Yi didn’t answer directly but instead said: “Sis, now you can feel at ease letting me help sell crepes, right?”
“Of course. You can do whatever you want,” Qian Qian said.
“Uncle, if you’re going to sell crepes, can you set up the stall at our school gate? That way I can see you as soon as school is over.” Xiao Le pulled Su Yi’s hand and shook it.
“Sure.” Su Yi squatted down and pinched Xiao Le’s handsome little face. “When you get out of school, Uncle will definitely be standing in the most conspicuous spot so you can see me at a single glance.”
“Yay!” Xiao Le clapped happily.
…
After the person who bought the crepe left, they walked across the street and got into a black Maybach.
“Buying that crepe today was worth it. Not only did it taste as delicious as ever, but it was also a feast for the eyes.” The person said to the one beside him while eating, “Don’t even mention it—that handsome guy who made my crepe today actually looks a bit like Su Yi.”
The person beside him, who had been feigning sleep, instantly opened his eyes.
“Who did you say he looks like?”
“Why are you so excited? I didn’t say the person looks like him; I meant his technique for spreading crepes is like the Su Yi in that movie.” The person glared at the one beside him and said, “It’s all because of you; you watch his movies constantly, so I end up catching a few glimpses too. I remembered it after seeing it so much.”
“That handsome guy’s technique isn’t just similar; his hands are similar too. He also spreads them very roundly, like they’re drawn with a compass. And that aura between his brows… honestly, it’s a bit similar too.”
“Where? Take me there.”
The person beside him sat up abruptly and dragged him out of the car.
“Zhuang Qingyuan, don’t you hate the smell of oil smoke here the most? Are you really going?” The person stood steady staggeringly and leaned in front of Zhuang Qingyuan to ask: “Are you really going? I’m telling you, that really isn’t Su Yi. They don’t look alike at all. Plus, Su Yi is dead. You have to accept reality.”
“Huo Yang, don’t make me repeat myself. Take me there immediately!” Zhuang Qingyuan lost his patience, his tone commanding.
“Fine, fine, let’s go. Whatever you say, Young Master Zhuang. I really give up on you!”
“Zhuang Qingyuan, it’s not that I want to nag you, but what’s the point? When the person was alive, you stayed far away; now that the person is gone, you want to search for him every day. Can a dead person come back to life or something?” Huo Yang led Zhuang Qingyuan through the crowded crowds of the snack street.
He occasionally looked back at Zhuang Qingyuan, who was following closely with a tight frown, clearly truly disliking the intense oil smoke here.
“There… that’s the stall.” Huo Yang pointed at Qian Qian’s stall, but didn’t see the handsome guy from just now. “Hey, Boss, where’s your brother?”
“I let him take the child home first. Do you want another crepe?” Qian Qian asked.
“Yeah, since we’re already here, I’ll have another one.” Huo Yang asked Zhuang Qingyuan, “Do you want one to try? The boss’s skill is very good.”
Zhuang Qingyuan looked around. Indeed, he didn’t see anyone who looked like Su Yi. He replied casually: “I’ll try.”
“Boss, give us two.” Huo Yang scanned the code to pay and asked, “Boss, did you teach your brother how to spread crepes?”
“No. I didn’t even know when he learned it, and I’ve never seen him do it before. I didn’t expect him to be so good at it.” Whenever Qian Qian talked about Qian Xu, her face was full of smiles.
“He is quite good at it. It’s very similar to a celebrity. Your brother is so handsome; why doesn’t he become a star?” Huo Yang asked.
Qian Qian: “He originally… also wanted to be an actor. But that path is not easy for us common folk to walk. Fortunately, the contract will be terminated soon.”
“Terminating a contract? So he really is in the entertainment industry. That’s quite a coincidence.” Huo Yang glanced at Zhuang Qingyuan and then continued: “If your brother terminates his contract, he can come to my friend’s company. my friend’s company is large and has many resources; it has produced many big stars.”
Qian Qian smiled and waved her hand: “No, no. He wants to come back and sell crepes; I think that’s also quite good.”
The experiences of these past two years—even if Qian Xu didn’t say it, she could guess a little. She respected Qian Xu’s own choice.
Huo Yang: “That’s a pity then! Being so handsome!”
“Your crepes are ready. Here are the two of them.” Qian Qian moved nimbly, packed them in a bag, and handed them over.
“Eat it while it’s hot.” Huo Yang handed one of the crepes to Zhuang Qingyuan. “Let’s go, Young Master.”
Zhuang Qingyuan held the crepe with no intention of moving. He asked Qian Qian: “Is your brother here tomorrow too?”
“Huh?” Qian Qian looked at the person in front of her—wearing a mask, dressed in a suit and leather shoes, completely out of place in the snack street. She froze for a moment before replying, “No, he’ll be setting up the stall at the entrance of Cloud Primary School nearby tomorrow. You…”
“Thank you.” Only then did Zhuang Qingyuan leave.
Before Qian Qian could finish, the man had already turned and left. It was truly a bit strange.
“Thanks, Boss. Ignore him; he’s sick.” Huo Yang shook his head at the back of the “sick” young master and then followed.
…
After Su Yi made his decision, early the next morning after sending Xiao Le to school, he set up the crepe stall at the school gate.
This way, Qian Qian wouldn’t have to run back and forth, and it would be easier for her.
Naturally, Su Yi did not go to the audition. Zhou Bopi called early in the morning, but Su Yi had put his phone on silent and didn’t answer at all.
Part of the investigation results would come out today; there was no need for him to waste words with “Zhou the Skinner.”
From Qian Xu’s memories, Su Yi understood that Zhou Bopi had many dirty transactions under his belt.
But this society emphasizes evidence. Qian Xu had only heard rumors and had no proof, so Su Yi spent some money to find professionals to investigate Zhou Bopi.
Su Yi intended to rely on the evidence from the investigation to not only complete the contract termination with Qingshan Media but also to send Zhou Bopi to prison.
Life for life; it is only right and natural!
How could he let this scum Zhou Bopi continue his evil deeds and escape punishment!
“Uncle!” Xiao Le ran out of the school gate and pounced into his uncle Qian Xu’s arms. “I saw Uncle at a single glance because Uncle is the tallest and best-looking.”
Su Yi laughed and rubbed the little fellow’s chubby face: “That’s right. Your uncle is the most handsome, and you are the most handsome too!”
“Let’s go eat. Your mom just sent it over; it’s still warm.”
“Okay.”
Su Yi set up Xiao Le’s special small table and stool, then took out Xiao Le’s special tableware and served a bowl of noodles and a portion of egg drop soup.
Qian Qian had made it an hour ago and sent it in a thermos; the temperature was just right now.
There wasn’t much business at the primary school gate; hardly anyone came to buy crepes all morning, so Su Yi sat down to watch Xiao Le eat.
Out of the corner of his eye, he kept an eye on a Maybach not far away. That car had been parked there since early morning.
Because Su Yi was very sensitive to the gazes of others, although the car had good privacy, he could still feel that someone inside—he didn’t know who—had been staring in his direction since the morning until now.
Su Yi’s spot was at the school gate. At first, he thought it might be a parent who was worried about their child, but the students had all come out after school, yet no one from that car came down to pick up a child.
Only then did Su Yi become suspicious.
