The Innocent 'Green Tea' Alpha at Home is Actually My Boss - Chapter 26
“You know Film Emperor Sang?”
“What’s your relationship with Film Emperor Sang? It’s my first time seeing him act so cordially toward someone.”
As soon as Lu Lin returned to the set, a crowd swarmed around him, prying with questions.
After all, he had arrived at the set in the same nanny van as Sang Weilian. As a rookie actor, such treatment was truly exaggerated, and the fact that he was an Alpha only fueled more suspicion.
The smile did not reach Lu Lin’s eyes. “Teacher Sang is my brother.”
“You’re brothers? Wow, I’m so jealous!”
“Ugh, I wish I could be the Film Emperor’s younger brother too!”
Being open and honest about a relationship was indeed the best way to prevent malicious rumors. The surroundings were instantly filled with envious exclamations, though some remained curious.
“But you don’t look like each other at all. Are you cousins or something?”
Before Lu Lin could speak, Ma Dongdong walked over, his beer belly leading the way, to break up the crowd. “Alright, alright, scatter. We’re filming soon. What are you all huddled here for? Is all the work finished?”
The staff members scattered like birds and beasts, finally returning a sense of peace to Lu Lin.
Ma Dongdong beckoned Lu Lin to an empty dressing room. “I promised Film Emperor Sang I’d look after you more, so naturally, I won’t disregard his request. Whatever others say is their business. As long as you don’t cause trouble and finish your scenes well, I’ll help you out.”
“For a newcomer, being steady and hardworking is the only way to be favored by the crew.”
Lu Lin caught the underlying tone of warning in his words but didn’t mind. He replied with a shallow smile, “Director Ma is right.”
“The lead actor of our production brought his own funding; that’s no secret. I’ll be blunt: with the lead’s capital, and you helping me secure Sang Weilian’s side for promotion and satellite TV broadcasting, this drama is bound to be a hit.”
“However, Film Emperor Sang never helps others promote their dramas. Do you want to be famous?” Ma Dongdong suddenly asked a question that seemed completely out of left field.
Lu Lin countered, “Why wouldn’t I?”
“True. No one enters the entertainment industry without wanting to be famous. Since you want it, put in more effort. Film Emperor Sang’s influence is massive; we should ride that hype for as many days as we can. Do you understand?” Ambition was unmasked in Ma Dongdong’s eyes.
Although he had known for a long time that the role of “President Miao” was exchanged by Sang Weilian using the condition of helping with promotion, hearing Ma Dongdong talk about Sang Weilian as a tool for exploitation made Lu Lin feel very displeased.
He maintained his faint smile. “Understood.”
Ma Dongdong praised him for being sensible and patted his shoulder. “Rest for a bit, wait for the lead…”
Before he could finish, Lu Lin’s phone rang.
Ma Dongdong withdrew his hand. “Go ahead and answer. I’m heading out.”
Lu Lin nodded, watched him walk out of the set, and answered the call.
“Boss, the headphones Mr. Sang gave you last time are still here, and there are several urgent documents that need your signature. Since you’ve joined the crew, I wanted to confirm where the items should be delivered?” Wan Tianhai asked on the other end of the line.
“Have Song He deliver the headphones to Zhuyizhuang, and bring the documents to the set tonight,” Lu Lin said. “How is the arrangement for Zhang Chuntao going?”
“The HR department just sent out the emails. After the meeting with all the managers this afternoon, the three new assistants will be distributed,” Wan Tianhai said. “I’ll message you once everything is settled.”
“Mhm.”
After dropping Lu Lin off at the set, Sang Weilian went home for a nap. When he woke up in the afternoon, Wang Gu informed him that Wan Tianhai had assigned him a Beta assistant, a driver, and two bodyguards.
“It was personally arranged by Acting President Wan. There were seventeen people in total, and four were assigned to you. Acting President Wan’s exact words were: ‘Since you’ve had an accident before, considering the artist’s safety, a driver and bodyguards are a must. The assistant can be on a trial basis; if you find her unsuitable, we can swap her,'” Wang Gu recounted over the phone.
“If she’s ‘unsuitable, we can swap,’ doesn’t that clearly mean I must have an assistant?” Sang Weilian frowned in dissatisfaction.
“Actually, I think having an assistant might make things more convenient. Why don’t we try it out first?” Wang Gu said. “I’ve seen the girl. She just graduated from university. Although she’s introverted, she does things very meticulously.”
“Got it. Let her start following me tomorrow.” Compared to the hassle of repeatedly swapping people, the trial condition made Sang Weilian relent.
The next day, Sang Weilian met Zhang Chuntao along with the new bodyguards and driver.
For several consecutive days, he was busy with makeup tests for the drama The Blind, frequently going out. Having two burly bodyguards and an honest-looking driver wasn’t strange at all; what was strange was Zhang Chuntao.
She worked earnestly and carefully, was quiet and spoke little, and aside from being a bit slow to react occasionally, she never made a mistake. The strange part was that she understood Sang Weilian’s various habits perfectly, as if her brain had been programmed with fixed instructions like a robot.
Seeing the coffee placed before him made exactly to his taste Sang Weilian couldn’t help but ask, “Do you know me?”
After asking, he felt the question was somewhat ambiguous, but for a moment, he couldn’t think of a better way to phrase it.
Zhang Chuntao was momentarily stunned. Did she know Sang Weilian? Of course she did! He was a national-level Film Emperor!
She deliberated for a long time before answering tremulously, “I… I do…?”
Sang Weilian pressed his hand to his forehead. “That’s not what I meant. Before you came to work as an assistant, did anyone tell you anything? Why do you understand my habits so well?”
There were many details that outsiders wouldn’t know for example, he didn’t drink the top layer of foam on his coffee; it had to be carefully skimmed off.
Even Wang Gu wasn’t aware of such minute habits. Only Lu Lin had ever noticed.
Zhang Chuntao suddenly realized what he meant and pulled a small notebook from her shoulder bag. “Before I came to work for you, Assistant Song gave this to me. He said it would help with my work. It records your living habits, likes, dislikes, tastes, and so on in great detail. I’ve memorized it thoroughly.”
Sang Weilian flipped through the notebook in silence.
Zhang Chuntao didn’t get a response for a long time and became anxious. “…Teacher Sang, is there something I’m not doing well enough?”
Sang Weilian closed the notebook and shook his head. “No.”
It wasn’t a matter of not doing enough; she was doing it too perfectly to his liking just as if Lu Lin were by his side.
By chance, the styling director came over to call Sang Weilian for a makeup test, interrupting his thoughts.
By the time the day’s work was over, Sang Weilian sat in the car and rubbed his brow, trying to suppress his fatigue.
The temporary mark Lu Lin had given him had already disappeared. Having just withdrawn from an Alpha’s presence, he was quite unaccustomed to it and tired easily.
Seeing this, Zhang Chuntao immediately pulled a blue sachet from her backpack. “Teacher Sang, take this. You should be able to rest better with it.”
Sang Weilian brought the sachet to his nose and sniffed. It was a cold, crisp, and sweet scent, extremely similar to Lu Lin’s mountain spring pheromones.
He was thinking of Lu Lin again.
Combining this with everything that happened during the day, Sang Weilian couldn’t help but ask, “Do you know Lu Lin?”
The details of how Zhang Chuntao looked after him were truly too similar to something Lu Lin would have personally taught.
“Who?” Zhang Chuntao looked blank, her eyes filled with genuine confusion, not looking like she was lying at all.
It seemed she really didn’t know.
“Never mind.” Sang Weilian looked at the driver. “Drive to the Haicheng Film and Television Base.”
From the passenger seat, Wang Gu turned back in surprise. “What are you doing there in the middle of the night?”
“Just going to take a look.”
Lu Lin had been filming in the Glorious CEO crew for about half a month. During his busy period, their contact had suddenly decreased. Having thought of Lu Lin frequently these past few days, he wondered if the other had adapted to life on set.
He would take a look, and while he was at it, probe Lu Lin to find out why Song He knew his living habits so well.
Wang Gu didn’t bother to persuade him otherwise, simply instructing the driver to take the roads where reporters didn’t usually stake out.
Zhang Chuntao was curious but knew she shouldn’t ask, so she remained quiet, doing only what an assistant should do.
“President Lu, I’ll take these documents back with me first.” Song He placed the documents signed by Lu Lin back into the folder. “There is a business gala at the Xinghai International Hotel next Saturday night. Your mother will be attending. Your father cannot return to the country for the time being due to work. Acting President Wan asked me to ask if you would like to attend in person.”
“Send me a copy of the guest list. I’ll decide after I’ve seen it.” He would finish filming next Saturday, and Sang Weilian would be joining his own set. Rather than letting his mother attend the gala alone, if the event was private enough and without outsiders, he could attend in person.
“Understood.” Song He nodded.
“From tomorrow onwards, you don’t need to come for the time being. If there’s anything important, message me. I’ll handle it when I see it. If there’s no time, let Wan Tianhai find a way to deal with it or postpone it,” Lu Lin instructed.
The lead actor of Glorious CEO, who brought his own funding, had been filming multiple projects simultaneously these past few days, causing the production schedule to fall seriously behind. Most of Lu Lin’s scenes were business rivalries with the lead, so as a result, his schedule for the next few days was packed from morning until night.
“Understood.” Song He didn’t ask for the reason. After agreeing, he set down the folder and placed his hands on the steering wheel. “If there’s nothing else, I’ll drive you back to the set.”
“Mhm,” Lu Lin responded.
Recently, there had been a lot of urgent work at Guangyue Entertainment. Song He had driven to the set for five consecutive days to find Lu Lin to process documents.
To avoid being seen by the crew and causing misunderstandings, he always parked the car in a public parking lot two intersections away from the set. By the time the work was done and it was dark, he would drive Lu Lin directly to the intersection closest to the hotel where the crew stayed.
Today was no different.
Arriving at the stopping point by the intersection, Song He brought the car to a steady halt, got out, walked around to the other side, and respectfully opened the car door for Lu Lin. “President Lu, please be safe on your way.”
Before Lu Lin could respond, a familiar voice came from behind him.
“President Lu?” Wearing a hat and a mask, Sang Weilian stepped forward from beside a black nanny van parked on the roadside. On the quiet street, the dim yellow light of the streetlamps stretched his silhouette.
“Assistant Song calls you President Lu?”
