The Innocent 'Green Tea' Alpha at Home is Actually My Boss - Chapter 20
On a night that should have been plagued by insomnia, Sang Weilian unexpectedly slept very well.
When he woke up, the sky was bright. The bedding beside him still held a lingering warmth; Lu Lin must have gotten up not too long ago.
Stepping out of the bedroom in his slippers, he heard the sound of running water coming from the bathroom.
Thinking of the injury on Lu Lin’s hand, he pushed the door open without hesitation.
Lu Lin, who was holding a toothbrush and brushing his teeth, looked over blankly. In the next second, those hawk-like eyes instantly brightened, as if all his sleepiness had vanished.
“Morning, Ge. Did you sleep well?”
“Passably,” Sang Weilian said honestly. He leaned against the doorframe with his arms crossed, waiting for him to finish.
“Wait for me a second.” Lu Lin immediately sped up, clearly intending to make space for Sang Weilian, but as soon as he put down his toothbrush, he began struggling to scoop water with one hand to wash his face.
Sure enough, Sang Weilian watched for only a second before stepping forward and wetting a face towel. “Come here.”
Lu Lin obediently leaned his face in, a bright smile playing on his lips.
Through the soft, damp towel, Sang Weilian’s fingertips brushed over every inch of Lu Lin’s skin. He tilted his head slightly, tracing the contours of the younger man’s face with interest. Lu Lin had typical thick brows and hawk-like eyes, features that were exceptionally rugged and sharp. Water droplets clung to his long, dense eyelashes, and his eyes dark as deep pools remained fixed firmly on Sang Weilian.
It wasn’t until a stray drop of water slid down Lu Lin’s arm to his elbow and dripped onto the floor that Sang Weilian snapped back to his senses. He quickly pulled out two more towels to dry him off.
Lu Lin reciprocated by wiping the water stains off Sang Weilian’s arm. “I’ll go make breakfast first.”
“You stay put,” Sang Weilian shot him a glare. “Don’t be so restless when you’re injured. You’ve forgotten you’re a young master, not my housekeeper.”
Lu Lin gave a shy smile. “Then should I order delivery? What do you want to eat, Ge?”
“Just some porridge.” Even though he had rested well, Sang Weilian still didn’t have much of an appetite after yesterday’s events. Fearing Lu Lin would overexert himself, he continued to instruct: “Don’t aggravate your wound. I’ll take a look at it in a bit.”
“Orders received!” Lu Lin agreed obediently and walked out, looking jubilant.
After one night, thanks to Lu Lin being a high-quality Alpha, the wound recovery was much better than Sang Weilian had imagined. The injury at his waist had scabbed over, and while the stitched wound on the webbing of his thumb still looked gruesome, there were no signs of suppuration or renewed bleeding.
As Sang Weilian finished applying the medicine and changing the gauze, he looked up and asked, “Yesterday, Liu Yingguang mentioned something about a cam—”
Before he could finish, the doorbell and his phone rang simultaneously.
The delivery rider was knocking outside, and the call was from Wang Gu.
Lu Lin stood up. “Ge, I’ll go get the food.”
“Mm.” Sang Weilian had no choice but to answer the phone first. “Hello? Are you here already?”
“No, I’m just calling to let you know. The neighborhood property management couldn’t reach you, so they called me. They said since such a big incident happened yesterday, it was a failure on their part and they insist on compensating you.”
“We can talk about compensation later. Roughly when will you be over? Since there are no schedules today, let’s go to the police station and get this settled.”
“Well, that’s why I’m calling. It’s about Liu Yingguang,” Wang Gu sounded a bit hesitant. “I feel like you might not need to come, but I still have to ask for your thoughts.”
“What do you mean?” Sang Weilian frowned.
Lu Lin, carrying the breakfast, walked over and quietly helped him unpack the porridge and handed him chopsticks.
Sang Weilian lost his appetite; he set the chopsticks down and waited for Wang Gu’s explanation.
Wang Gu hung up the call abruptly and switched to a video call instead.
“Hey, I’m at the police station right now. Early this morning, the Haicheng Police Station called me, saying the Omega Rights Protection Bureau is going to intervene in this case.” Wang Gu was sitting in the reception room of the Haicheng station. “I wasn’t at ease, so I came over first to check the situation and save you a trip.”
The Omega Rights Protection Bureau had been instrumental in perfecting the Omega Protection Laws in China. Their direct involvement in this case seemed a bit like using a sledgehammer to crack a nut.
Sang Weilian was puzzled. “Why?”
Wang Gu explained, “They said the Bureau wants to highlight a ‘typical case’ this year. They just settled into Haicheng yesterday, and then your incident happened. Because of your unique status and social influence, they feel this case has reference value as a legal precedent. So, if you agree, the case can be transferred to them.”
“If it’s transferred, what’s the process?”
“If you agree, the suspect will be escorted to the North City detention center today. After that, the investigation and trial will be handled by the highest level…” Wang Gu spent five minutes meticulously explaining the detailed process, finally concluding, “I think it’s a good deal.”
“Not only would you not have to show your face, but Liu Yingguang’s punishment wouldn’t be lightened. It saves us a lot of trouble.”
Just as Wang Gu finished speaking, the meeting room door at the station opened. A middle-aged Omega and a slightly younger Beta walked out.
“Mr. Wang, have you finished considering it?” The Beta, who had a lean build and a scholarly air, walked over.
Wang Gu replied honestly, “Secretary Wang, I’m currently discussing this with Weilian. Just a moment.”
As he spoke, he switched the camera to the rear view to introduce them to Sang Weilian. “This is Secretary Wang from the Omega Rights Protection Bureau, and that is Director Su Kangping of the Bureau.”
Through the screen, Sang Weilian caught a glimpse of Su Kangping’s profile and froze in place.
Su Kangping’s appearance seemed very familiar. Had he seen him somewhere before?
“Weilian?” Seeing no reaction, Wang Gu called his name again.
Sang Weilian snapped back to his senses. Su Kangping appeared frequently in the news; that was probably why he looked familiar.
“Hello, I am Sang Weilian.” He greeted him politely.
Su Kangping walked over to the camera personally, and Wang Gu simply handed him the phone to facilitate the conversation.
“Mr. Sang, hello. I assume Mr. Wang has briefed you on the situation?”
Su Kangping was an Omega with soft facial features and an approachable smile. Sang Weilian found himself feeling a bit more patient. “Yes, he did.”
“That’s good. We just finished our meeting. If you agree, we will officially handle the handover procedures.” Su Kangping’s tone was exceptionally gentle. “Of course, if you don’t wish to transfer the case, we won’t force you. We respect your wishes.”
Sang Weilian fell into deep thought. Lu Lin, sitting across from him, took the opportunity to suggest: “I think you could consider it, Ge? After all, you’re entering the film set in early March, and it would be really inconvenient to keep traveling back and forth.”
What Lu Lin said was very practical. Sang Weilian finally nodded. “Alright, I agree.”
“Thank you for your cooperation, Mr. Sang. If it’s convenient for you now, I’ll have Secretary Wang take an online statement from you, and we’ll handle the rest.” On the other end of the line, Su Kangping heard Lu Lin’s voice and tried to catch a glimpse of him through the screen, but he could only capture a corner of his clothing, let alone a clear view of his face.
“Sure—”
“Ahem! Ahem!” Before Sang Weilian could finish, Lu Lin coughed twice, appearing to have choked on his porridge. He reached out for a tissue and inadvertently pushed the bowl full of porridge into the camera’s frame.
Su Kangping changed the subject: “Has Mr. Sang not had breakfast yet? Why don’t you eat first, and I’ll have Secretary Wang get things ready in the meantime.”
“…That works too.”
Once the call ended, Lu Lin’s eyes drooped slightly. “Did I interrupt you, Ge?”
“No, let’s eat first.” Now that the call was over, Sang Weilian actually had a bit of an appetite. The green vegetable and lean meat porridge was savory, and paired with the appetizers, he managed to finish more than half the bowl.
Lu Lin didn’t mind the leftovers and finished them all for him.
Shortly after the meal, Wang Gu added him to a WeChat group, and Secretary Wang sent a link to an online video conference.
The link led to an online statement room. Sang Weilian followed Secretary Wang’s instructions to enter. Soon, the black screen transitioned into the setting of the Haicheng Police Station interrogation room.
The statement process took quite a while. The first half mostly consisted of Sang Weilian recounting the events. Because the police followed confidentiality principles, he honestly recounted how Lu Lin had protected him and gotten injured. The second half involved confirming evidence.
The surveillance footage of Liu Yingguang breaking into his home was provided by the property management, and Lu Lin’s injury report was handled by Dr. Xu.
“With this, plus the pinhole camera he installed in your dressing room, the evidence is sufficient. Thank you…”
Before Secretary Wang could finish, Sang Weilian asked, “Who gave you the pinhole camera? Wang Gu?”
Secretary Wang blinked, looking confused. “No, an Alpha delivered it. I saw that Mr. Wang knew him, so I thought… wasn’t it arranged by you…?”
“Secretary Wang!” Su Kangping suddenly pushed the door and walked in.
Secretary Wang looked over in confusion. Su Kangping realized his tone had been too urgent, as if he were afraid of letting something slip. He regained his approachable demeanor. “Is everything recorded?”
“Yes, it’s all recorded. We’re just missing one injury report.” Secretary Wang replied truthfully.
“Then head out first. I want to say a few more words to Mr. Sang.”
“Understood.” Secretary Wang immediately closed his laptop and walked out with the other two officers.
Only Sang Weilian and Su Kangping remained face-to-face in the video. Su Kangping smiled and told Sang Weilian that he would be updated on the case’s progress and to rest easy. However, the words went in one ear and out the other; Sang Weilian barely processed them.
An Alpha that Wang Gu knew had delivered it?
Which Alpha?
Sang Weilian instinctively looked toward Lu Lin, who was currently hanging laundry on the balcony. By the time the video was about to end, he thanked the Director mechanically. He switched to WeChat to ask Wang Gu, but the latter had already sent messages during the statement break.
Wang-defu: To think CEO Wan would personally deliver the pinhole camera Liu Yingguang hid in your dressing room.
Wang-defu: That kid Lu Lin is pretty good. He found something suspicious and knew to ask for help.
Wang-defu: But why didn’t you tell me about this? Now I don’t just have to arrange for someone to clean and disinfect your house, I have to disinfect your dressing room too.
He knew?
He knew nothing about this.
Lu Lin had found a pinhole camera and hadn’t told him first he had gone to Wan Tianhai instead.
Something this important, and he wasn’t the first to know.
As this sentence echoed in Sang Weilian’s mind, Lu Lin returned to the living room. Sang Weilian called out to him, his face expressionless.
“What exactly is your relationship with Wan Tianhai?”
Lu Lin’s footsteps faltered. The expression on his face nearly cracked, but he quickly managed a look of confusion. “I’m an artist at the company… uh, an employment relationship? Why the sudden question, Ge?”
Sang Weilian’s tone was cold and hard. “Employment relationship? Just how ‘close’ is this employment relationship that you would find a pinhole camera in my dressing room and tell him instead of me?”
