The Innocent 'Green Tea' Alpha at Home is Actually My Boss - Chapter 14
“Boss, here is the information on the investors involved in that incident from years ago that you requested last night.” Wan Tianhai handed the document bag to Lu Lin.
Lu Lin’s face was as cold as frost, and he didn’t take it immediately. However, upon seeing the last chat record with Sang Weilian on his phone, his expression softened slightly. “Keep the file for now. I’m heading out to find Weilian in a moment; just send an electronic copy to my email.”
Wan Tianhai responded respectfully, “Understood. The swelling on your forehead seems a bit prominent; would you like me to call the private doctor to take a look?”
In reality, the bump on Lu Lin’s forehead had mostly subsided, but that didn’t stop him from using it to garner Sang Weilian’s concern.
He declined decisively: “No need. I’m leaving now.”
The elevator doors on the 57th floor slid open. Sang Weilian stepped out from the high-level elevator, followed closely by Wang Gu.
“When you see Acting CEO Wan in a moment, will you give it to him personally?” Wang Gu nudged the earphone gift box into Sang Weilian’s hands.
Sang Weilian stood still. He watched the adjacent elevator door on the right slowly close. He seemed to catch a scent of that fresh, cold mountain spring fragrance was it Lu Lin?
“What’s wrong?” Wang Gu asked, seeing him motionless for a long time, and gave his arm a gentle push.
“…It’s nothing.” It was likely just an illusion. Why would a minor rookie actor like Lu Lin suddenly show up on the 57th floor?
“Give it to me.” Sang Weilian reached out and took the gift box from Wang Gu.
Wang Gu stepped forward and knocked lightly on the CEO’s office door. Wan Tianhai had just seen Lu Lin off and hadn’t even sat down yet. Hearing the knock, he thought Lu Lin had forgotten something and went to open the door himself.
“Bo—” The word “Boss” was swallowed hard by Wan Tianhai. “Manager Wang, Mr. Sang, please come in.”
The Acting CEO personally opening the door for them left Wang Gu feeling overwhelmed by the favor. He walked into the office, bracing himself against Wan Tianhai’s overly stern expression.
Sang Weilian followed behind. As he passed Wan Tianhai, he gave a slight nod as a greeting. “Acting CEO Wan.”
As soon as the office door closed, Sang Weilian’s keen senses detected the lingering scent of mountain spring pheromones in the air. It was extremely faint, but it was definitely not his imagination.
Lu Lin had indeed been here.
What was he doing here? Discussing work? Or getting a lecture?
Sang Weilian thought about it for a while and initially wanted to ask directly, but if it were the latter, he might get Lu Lin into trouble. He ultimately dropped the idea and joined Wang Gu in presenting the gift.
“Acting CEO Wan, these are the new noise-canceling earphones launched by the Siny brand I endorse. They haven’t been officially released yet. I’ve brought one for you and one for the CEO.”
Wan Tianhai paused for a moment before saying, “You are too kind, Mr. Sang. I will pass the CEO’s copy along to him.”
“Then I’ll trouble you with that.”
Wang Gu, utilizing his professional silver-tongued skills as a manager, exchanged a few more pleasantries with Wan Tianhai before leaving the 57th floor with Sang Weilian.
“Shall I deliver Assistant Song’s gift? No need for you to keep running around with me.” Wang Gu had seen that Sang Weilian and Lu Lin had an appointment to meet in the lounge.
Sang Weilian nodded. “Mm.”
“I won’t be driving you home later; drive yourself and be careful on the road. I’ll have someone come to change the tires on the van.” As Wang Gu spoke, he leaned in and whispered a warning, “Don’t do anything too out of line with Lu Lin while you’re out.”
Sang Weilian kept one hand in his pocket, his expression calm and his posture relaxed. “I won’t.”
Besides, he had questions for Lu Lin.
To avoid being seen and fueling gossip, Lu Lin specifically took the staff elevator.
“…S-sorry.” A person suddenly slammed into Lu Lin, apologized hurriedly with their head down, and then bolted toward the emergency stairs as if they had seen a ghost.
Lu Lin frowned. As a high-quality Alpha, his perception of his own kind’s pheromones was sharp. Although there was no scent of pheromones, his intuition told him that the person who just bumped into him was an Alpha.
And at the end of this corridor, there was only Sang Weilian’s lounge.
Recalling the person’s fully disguised, suspicious appearance, Lu Lin’s face turned cold. He dialed Wan Tianhai’s number while walking quickly toward Sang Weilian’s lounge.
“Boss, just now—” Wan Tianhai was about to report that Sang Weilian had just visited when he was interrupted by a chilling tone.
“Someone might have just entered Sang Weilian’s lounge and fled toward the stairwell. Have someone look for him immediately. He was wearing a black baseball cap and a mask, a dark blue denim jacket, and black cargo pants. His shoes were grey A-brand sneakers.”
Wan Tianhai was stunned for a brief second before saying, “I’ll have people look for him right away!”
“Don’t tell Sang Weilian yet,” Lu Lin instructed.
Sang Weilian was usually very busy; telling him before the matter was investigated would only add unnecessary stress.
“Understood.”
After hanging up, Lu Lin carefully inspected Sang Weilian’s lounge. He quickly noticed that aside from a pile of gifts from fans in the corner, nothing was different from last time.
Lu Lin stepped forward, reaching out to check them, when the sound of the door handle turning came from the lounge entrance.
“Brother, you’re here.” Lu Lin turned to greet him, his tone submissive and his expression delighted. His sharp, hawk-like eyes were filled with nothing but admiration and tenderness.
Sang Weilian reached out and patted his head. “What were you doing just now?”
“I wanted to look at the gifts the fans sent you. I’m sorry, I didn’t ask for your permission first,” Lu Lin proactively admitted his “mistake.”
Sang Weilian walked past him and picked up the gift box on the top of the pile. “Since you want to see them, help me unbox them.”
“In the past, fans sent them to the company and my former assistant received them. But I’m in film crews all year round and don’t have much time to open them, so I agreed with the fan club to only accept them once every six months to control the volume. Even so, it usually takes a few days to get through them all.”
Lu Lin took the scissors. “Let me do it. Be careful not to cut your hand, Brother.”
As he unboxed, he probed for information. “I’ve heard about that former assistant. They say he stole things to resell them.”
“Yes. Once, a fan at the airport asked me if I had received the scarf they sent. I looked for it but couldn’t find it. The makeup artist mentioned a second-hand website by chance, and that’s when we thought to check,” Sang Weilian said. “We found out he had been selling things since three months after he was hired.”
“He was an Alpha, too. If it weren’t for the fact that his family was poor, his mother was seriously ill, and he couldn’t afford school, I wouldn’t have hired him at all.”
An Alpha?
Lu Lin paused. A moment later, he cut open a box. Inside was an exquisite handmade photo frame and a handwritten letter.
“Brother, there’s a letter here.” Lu Lin handed the letter to Sang Weilian.
Sang Weilian opened the envelope and began reading it seriously.
Lu Lin saw an unprecedented tenderness appear on his face. Sang Weilian’s dark blue eyes were soft, the corners of his eyes upturned, and his thin lips curled into a smile. Lu Lin felt a surge of emotion.
Sang Weilian cherished the gifts from his fans so much; if that person dared to tamper with the gifts, they truly deserved to die!
There were many letters tucked into the gifts. While Sang Weilian was reading, Lu Lin quietly and meticulously inspected each gift as he opened them, only placing them in a side box once he was sure there were no issues.
When he reached a red packaging box, he noticed a tiny hole had been poked in the casing.
Lu Lin pressed his lips thin, covering the hole with his fingertip. He sliced open the box to find a hidden pinhole camera currently in operation.
He quickly cut the tape securing the camera, switched it off, re-covered the box, and slipped it into his pocket.
It took an hour to finish unboxing everything. Lu Lin helped Sang Weilian organize the gifts into boxes.
“Put them in my car first, then we’ll go buy groceries.” Sang Weilian held a car fragrance diffuser another gift from a fan intending to hang it in his car immediately.
“Okay,” Lu Lin replied obediently, following closely by Sang Weilian’s side.
After they put the items in the trunk, Lu Lin proactively suggested, “I’ll drive. You rest, Brother.”
“Mm.” Sang Weilian didn’t refuse and sat directly in the passenger seat.
Just then, his phone pinged several times with message notifications. He picked it up and saw it was from Wang Gu.
Seeing him frown, Lu Lin asked with concern, “Did something move you to worry?”
“No, the tires on the van were punctured today. The 4S shop can’t replace them immediately; I have to wait a few days.”
“The tires were punctured?”
“Yeah. For some reason, there were a lot of nails near my usual parking spot.”
Lu Lin’s hand tightened on the steering wheel, his expression turning grave.
Sang Weilian was replying to Wang Gu and didn’t notice his expression. “But there’s a backup car, so it’s not a big problem.”
“That’s good. If you need help, I’m willing to be your driver.”
Sang Weilian gave a short laugh. He put down his phone and leaned his chin on his hand, watching Lu Lin’s handsome profile as he drove seriously. With a smile in his eyes, he said, “Having such a qualified ‘canary’ act as a full-time driver would be a waste of talent.”
Lu Lin was momentarily at a loss for words from the compliment and simply pursed his lips in a shy smile.
“By the way, did you go to see Acting CEO Wan this afternoon?”
“Ah…?” Lu Lin panicked. Had he been caught by Sang Weilian when he visited Wan Tianhai today?
“I smelled a tiny bit of your pheromones in his office. It was very faint.” Perhaps because their pheromone compatibility was so high, Sang Weilian was extremely sensitive to Lu Lin’s scent. “What did Acting CEO Wan want with you? Did he make things difficult for you?”
“He…” Lu Lin didn’t know how to answer because of that last sentence.
The brief hesitation made Sang Weilian even more certain of his suspicion. “Did he really bully you?”
“Actually… he just gave me a few pointers. After all, I’m a rookie actor and I’m joining a film crew in a few days. He’s the boss, and as his employee, it’s understandable that he wants me to work harder,” Lu Lin smiled gently. “Don’t be angry, Brother. He didn’t make things difficult; it was all normal.”
“You don’t call that making things difficult?” Sang Weilian’s voice was cold. “There are so many rookie actors in the company, and they just signed a dozen extras who are about to join crews. Why didn’t he seek them out one by one? Why did he pick you?”
“Didn’t I tell you last time? If someone bullies you, tell me directly. Many of those capitalists aren’t good people!”
Even though Wan Tianhai had helped handle the rumors, he was still the boss, a capitalist, and an Alpha. With Wu Liao as a precedent, there was no guarantee Wan Tianhai wasn’t a wolf in sheep’s clothing!
“My person isn’t for him to critique.”
“Your person?” Fortunately, the light was red. Lu Lin stepped on the brake and looked at Sang Weilian with a pleasant surprise. “Does this count as winning the Emperor’s favor and getting a promotion?”
“What are you talking about?” Sang Weilian was instantly amused.
“Because before, I was your canary. Now, I am your person.” Lu Lin blinked innocently and leaned in coyingly. “Does that mean I’ve made you happy, Brother?”
He cautiously moved his hand close to Sang Weilian’s, hooking his fingers with the other’s. Soon, their fingers were intertwined, their warm palms pressed together.
“Are you happy, Brother?”
