- Chapter 38 - No One Can Resist Your Charm
“I would kneel down and call him Master immediately.”
“The person upstairs must have entered their heat! Get lost and go take an inhibitor! A high-ranking male like His Excellency is not someone a lowly female like you can fantasize about!”
“Even if His Excellency has a little hobby for whipping, it does not matter. I am willing to be lashed by Cen Li!”
“Ah, enough of you bugs! The Master would never look at you. Stop your shameful delusions. Oh, by the way, look at my profile page. Do you think the Master would like my type?”
“Insect droppings!”
Some of these comments reached a level that would require censoring back on Earth.
It seemed he had gained more than just a few “face fans.” Cen Li felt that this world was sick. This superior appearance actually allowed these females to automatically ignore his notorious reputation. Was this the advantage brought by the scarcity of males? It appeared that no matter where one was, it was a society that judged by the face.
“Look, Your Excellency, no one can resist your charm!”
Quinn smiled and slowly stated a fact: “This is the result of only one day.”
Perhaps Cen Li’s name would soon appear in the top spot, replacing Chloe to become the most popular male. Quinn had not seen a frenzy sparked by a male in a long time. His gaze drifted into the distance, as if reminiscing.
“Once, there was a black-haired, black-eyed male who was also on this ranking. However, that S-class Crown declared that he would only have one female, his female monarch, for his entire life. Eventually, he was removed from the list.”
Marrying only one? That was indeed rare among the Zerg.
Surprise flickered in Cen Li’s eyes. He knew how difficult it would be to implement such a thing in a rigid, polygynous Zerg society. They would first face opposition from the Marriage Matching Bureau, a group of bugs dedicated to maintaining the Empire’s reproduction rate, not to mention countless other obstacles.
Cen Li said to Quinn, “In any case, I have no intention of marrying anyone right now. You should give up on that idea early. Finding another male would be a better choice for you.”
Quinn clutched his chest, looking hurt by Cen Li’s words. “Your Excellency, you are truly heartless!”
However, his eyes showed no sign of the humiliation of being pushed toward another. Instead, he realized that Cen Li’s consistent rejection was because the male truly had no intention of marrying. Nevertheless, Quinn believed this was only a temporary thought.
Before leaving, Quinn’s emerald eyes looked at Cen Li. “In the future, many females will surely scramble to show you favor. If you wish, I can act as your shield.”
“No need,” Cen Li refused immediately.
His eyes narrowed, his gaze deep and sharp as he saw right through the female’s plan, cutting off his hopes directly.
“Very well then, Your Excellency.” Quinn walked to the door and looked back. “I hope you will not forget me too quickly.”
Asher slept exceptionally deeply this time. Normally, he would have already arrived at the military department to begin work by now. However, today was still within the leave granted to him by Admiral Derek.
When Asher woke up, he thought he was still dreaming because he discovered he was sleeping in the Master’s room! Had he usurped Cen Li’s room? The room was empty except for him, and there was no trace of anyone having slept on the other side of the bed.
So, where did the Master sleep last night?
A look of confusion flashed in Asher’s eyes. Cen Li surely would not have given up his room for him; the Master could have easily driven him away. Furthermore, how did he end up in the bed? Could it be that the Master carried him again?
Cen Li might have been too lazy to call the smart butler and chose to do it himself for convenience. Recalling yesterday’s treatment, which had shocked Asher to his core, both psychologically and spiritually, the area from behind his ears to his neck turned red again after only a second of thought.
He had not expected the Master to choose to help him. Asher’s heart was filled with complex emotions, and he could not deny his gratitude. He was also very fortunate not to have fallen into Mikhail’s hands.
An unchaste female after marriage would be sent to the Imperial Interrogation Department to face severe torture, and in serious cases, their insect wings would be stripped off. As a military female, Asher’s wings were a tool he was proud of for combat. He could not imagine becoming a useless bug without them. He never wanted to see that happen!
Asher quickly tidied himself up and folded the Master’s bedding neatly before rushing downstairs. He intended to find Cen Li to express his gratitude in person. However, he was intercepted by Mikhail halfway.
The male scanned him from top to bottom with an unfriendly expression. “Is your drug cleared? Did Cen Li help you?”
Asher stepped aside to avoid Mikhail’s attempt to grab his hand, speaking expressionlessly, “Thanks to you, Your Excellency.”
Hearing this, Mikhail laughed out loud after a long pause. “You should indeed thank me, Major General Asher. If not for me, how could you have obtained the Master’s favor?”
The Master did not touch me, Asher retorted in his heart.
Granted, he and the Master had briefly established a more intimate and inseparable connection at that time. Remembering certain images, the spiritual tentacles hidden in his mental domain could not help but curl tighter.
Seeing Asher clearly distracted, Mikhail’s eyes turned dark and murky. This time, he had truly paved the way for Cen Li for nothing. He felt a stifling sensation as if he had consumed nutrient solution that tasted like a sewer, yet he could not lash out.
Catching something out of the corner of his eye, Mikhail’s gaze flickered. He suddenly raised his voice and began to loudly accuse Asher.
“Major General Asher, do not think you can do whatever you want just because you have the Master’s favor!”
“As a female attendant, how can you let your Master sleep in the guest room while you occupy his room so complacently?!”
What did he mean? The Master slept in the guest room last night?
Even though Asher had considered such a possibility, he was still deeply shocked when he truly learned of it. The Master clearly had ten thousand ways to kick him out. Even if he had ignored him and left him on the floor for most of the night, no bug would have criticized him for it.
“What is going on?”
Coming out of the reception hall, Duke Yolai heard Mikhail’s loud accusations. Mikhail was facing the corridor and had seen Duke Yolai the moment he appeared; those words had been spoken intentionally.
Although Duke Yolai usually seemed amiable, in his bones, like most males, he did not take females very seriously. He was a firm believer in the interests of males above all else. If a female offended his authority, Duke Yolai would not be soft-hearted when punishing them. Even Mikhail’s father, Renzo, had to act with caution before Duke Yolai.
Mikhail added fuel to the fire as he explained the situation. Sure enough, Duke Yolai’s face darkened.
