- The Heroic Master Is Tough-Talking but Soft-Hearted: The Aloof Major General Has Fallen
- Chapter 31 - Are You Trying to Embarrass a Lord Male?
Owen was surrounded by a crowd of female insects. They were all there to inquire about Cen Li’s preferences.
Asher snapped back to reality and suggested, “Perhaps you should ask Xia.”
“That cowardly sub-female?” Owen scoffed. “I asked him long before I came here. He said Lord Cen Li is served by you every day. Shouldn’t you be the one who knows the Lord’s daily habits best?”
“I think you just want to keep Lord Cen Li all to yourself! You are unwilling to share him with us!”
“Is this the breadth of mind of a First Legion Major General?”
Under Owen’s repeated questioning, the way the other females looked at Asher gradually began to change.
“I didn’t expect Asher to be so petty. Does he think he can monopolize a male forever?”
“It seems Asher isn’t as pure as the bright moon as everyone says. He is actually quite jealous, afraid we will steal his Master!”
Asher’s gaze swept over the females who were showing hostility toward him, and his voice sank. “I truly cannot answer your questions. It is not that I am trying to hide anything.”
Unable to get anything out of Asher, the crowd dispersed in boredom.
As Owen left, he looked back at Asher and said sarcastically, “Even if you do not speak, I will find a way. Do not get happy too soon!”
Asher clearly did not have such dark intentions, but these insects would not listen to his explanation. His Master loathed him; wasn’t asking him a waste of effort?
“Heh, a bunch of idiots.”
A familiar voice approached.
Asher looked sideways. Mikhail was swirling the wine glass in his hand, slowly sauntering over to stand before Asher.
“It has been a while, Major General.”
Asher pursed his lips, unconsciously tensing his body and staring at him with wary eyes.
Interest gleamed in Mikhail’s eyes. “Do not be so nervous, Major General. I am here to apologize to you.”
An apology? A male apologizing to a female? This was nothing short of a fairy tale, especially for an insect like Mikhail, who had a prior record.
Asher did not believe it. He maintained a defensive posture. “What exactly do you want?”
Mikhail laughed twice. Seeing Asher’s nervous appearance, he gave a morbid smile. “What is the Major General afraid of? I really just want to apologize to you! After I went back last time, I thought about it. I was indeed too crude.”
Mikhail placed his index finger on his lips and smiled at him.
Asher took a half step back, his internal alarm bells ringing even louder. He let out a mocking sneer. “An apology from a noble male? I cannot afford such an honor.”
Mikhail raised an eyebrow. “Who said the Major General was dull and uninteresting? I think you are quite sharp-tongued.”
Being stared at by Mikhail’s burning gaze made Asher’s skin crawl with goosebumps.
Mikhail raised a hand, beckoning a servant. He took a goblet from the tray, filled with a dark red liquid, and held it out to Asher.
“Drink it, and I will consider my apology accepted.”
Mikhail kept saying he wanted to apologize, but with this posture, Asher looked more like the one being forced to make amends. The male was so forceful in speech and action that it felt impossible to refuse, pressuring Asher to comply.
Asher looked at the glass of wine, his brow furrowing deeply. “I do not drink.”
Eager to escape Mikhail’s entanglement immediately, he added, “If you want to apologize, I have accepted it.”
Mikhail blocked Asher as he tried to leave, stretching his arm across his path.
“No, Major General. You must drink it.”
Mikhail was smiling, his eyes locked onto Asher, looking every bit like he would not let the matter go until the military insect drank.
There was definitely something wrong with this wine!
The male was being aggressive. Asher did not even want to take the glass, but a female attendant nearby, following Mikhail’s signal, shoved the glass into Asher’s hand.
“Drink up, Major General. Do not make me invite you,” Mikhail said leisurely.
The commotion on their side had already attracted the attention of many insects.
“I am sorry, I”
Mikhail’s smile vanished, and he lowered his voice. “Major General, are you trying to embarrass a Lord Male?”
It seemed Mikhail was hell-bent on making him drink this glass of wine today!
Asher’s face showed his distress. His gaze pierced straight past Mikhail, searching, subconsciously seeking the figure of his Master.
Asher was startled by his own action. Perhaps even if his Master were standing right here, he would only watch with cold indifference.
Even though the Master had said last time not to bow and scrape to Mikhail again.
But a male’s words could only be half-believed. Behind the apparent protection, the deeper reason might just be that Asher had embarrassed the Master.
Males were mostly fickle. Asher could not guarantee that Cen Li’s attitude this time would be the same as the last, treating Mikhail with his own medicine for making things difficult.
So, do not harbor expectations you should not have, Asher.
He whispered this to himself, and his raised head gradually lowered. It looked like he had resigned himself to fate.
“Good, I will drink.”
Asher’s knuckles tightened around the wine glass. Under Mikhail’s watchful gaze, he slowly brought the glass to his lips and took a sip.
Mikhail kindly reminded him, “Major General, that will not do. You must finish it all, otherwise, it means you have not accepted my apology.”
Asher knew he could not escape. Seeing the successful smirk on the male’s face, he gritted his teeth, closed his eyes, and tilted his head back to drain it in one gulp.
The spicy alcohol exploded in his throat, and a surge of acidity rose from his stomach. Asher could not help but frown, shaking the empty glass to signal he was finished.
Mikhail clapped his hands and smiled with satisfaction.
“Very good, Major General. Since you have accepted my apology, the slate between us is wiped clean. I will not pursue it any further.”
Last time, Cen Li had attacked him with mental power, and Mikhail had been completely defenseless. Since he had been in the wrong first, Mikhail had to swallow his resentment; he did not even dare tell the truth when his father asked.
But now, Asher had still fallen into his hands.
Would a female insect dare refuse a toast from him? Asher clearly knew there was a trick, yet he still drank it obediently.
Thinking of Asher’s repressed and enduring appearance, Mikhail felt an immediate itch of desire.
“Then I shall take my leave, Lord Mikhail.”
Asher did not wait for the male’s reply and turned to leave, his pace slightly hurried.
Mikhail’s dark eyes followed him from a distance, but he did not move to stop him. One had to let the prey struggle a bit; that way, he would realize he had nowhere to run and eventually fall into despair.
One way or another, Asher would not escape the palm of his hand.
