The Green Tea Omega Has Turned Bad - Chapter 8
Yan Xia was shell shocked.
She knew the Shang family was incredibly wealthy, but she hadn’t expected them to be this overbearing. How could someone just drop a “domineering CEO” line like that so casually?!
Zhu Yuxing was also stunned. Veins popped on his forehead, and his face twisted into a dark, ferocious scowl. “What the hell kind of joke are you playing?!”
“For someone like you, ordinary methods of education no longer work.” Shang Wandong’s expression remained indifferent, as if she were merely stating a fact. “Yan Xia is my friend. I don’t want people like you near her.”
Her blatant protectiveness left many of those present afraid to speak up. The repeated phrase “people like you” felt particularly sharp and piercing to Zhu Yuxing’s ears.
Just as he was about to erupt into a stream of curses, the school doctor emerged from the inner room holding medicine. Seeing the tension in the air, the doctor barked, “The patient needs rest! What is all this noise? What are you all standing around for? Get back to class!” Then, turning to Shang Wandong, the doctor’s voice softened, “Xiao Shang, you should head back too.”
Shang Wandong shook her head. “I want to stay and look after her.”
“Alright.” The doctor didn’t refuse and turned to Yan Xia with a warm tone, “If you’re feeling unwell, you can lie down for a bit longer.”
Yan Xia nodded obediently.
The class monitor had no choice but to say, “Well then, Yan Xia, if you’re okay, come back to class early…”
The snow-white cubicle curtain was drawn shut, and the others were ushered out of the infirmary. The air suddenly became much quieter.
Shang Wandong took a pear out of a bamboo basket beside her, sat down, and began to peel it.
Sitting on the bed, Yan Xia cycled through a dozen potential conversation starters, but she felt that ordinary small talk wouldn’t mean much to Shang Wandong.
After a moment of thought, she said cautiously, “Thank you for earlier.”
Shang Wandong’s focus remained entirely on the peeling; she didn’t look up. “You’re welcome.”
Yan Xia asked in a low voice, “Won’t staying here to look after me interfere with your studies?”
Without raising her head, Shang Wandong replied, “No. I reviewed everything last night.”
She really is a conversation killer…
Yan Xia wasn’t sure what else to say, so she could only offer a compliment: “You’re really good at peeling fruit…” As she spoke, she found herself captivated by the speed of Shang Wandong’s hands.
Shang Wandong held the fruit knife with a grip that was both fast and fierce. With swift, decisive strokes, the skin separated from the flesh. The pear spun rapidly in her hands, turning into a blur, while the peel coiled down in a single, continuous, and perfect ribbon.
Yan Xia was stunned!
The young miss knows how to peel her own fruit?! Does that even fit her character description?
System: The book never said the young miss couldn’t peel things herself…
In less than a minute, the pear was finished.
Although Yan Xia wasn’t particularly fond of pears, she was still full of anticipation. After all, this was the first time someone had ever peeled fruit for her!
And it was Shang Wandong doing the peeling using the very hands that, in the future, would earn tens of thousands every minute as a market manipulator!
She watched intently, waiting for that snowy-white, perfectly round pear to be handed to her.
She saw Shang Wandong toss the complete coil of skin into the trash can. Her slender, fair fingers held the pear as she slowly moved it forward.
And then she stuffed it into her own mouth.
Crunch. It sounded quite crisp.
Yan Xia:
Sensing Yan Xia’s gaze, Shang Wandong took a small tangerine from the basket. With a few quick movements, she peeled it, revealing plump, orange segments that opened up like a little flower bud.
She placed the tangerine in Yan Xia’s hand. “You eat this.”
Yan Xia: “…So, that pear wasn’t being peeled for me?”
“No.” Shang Wandong mumbled while chewing the pear, her cheeks bulging as she crunched away. She added casually, “Don’t you dislike eating pears?”
She said it as a statement of fact. Yan Xia blinked, stunned, and asked back, “How did you know?”
The book didn’t mention the female lead hating pears, did it?
Shang Wandong paused and glanced at her.
Yan Xia looked back, confused.
With a calm face and a tone of absolute certainty, Shang Wandong replied, “You told me before.”
Her tone was so righteous that even Yan Xia began to doubt herself. She mused, “I… I did?”
“Yes.”
Maybe the female lead really doesn’t like pears and I just missed that part?!
The more Yan Xia thought about it, the more she felt she must have misread the book. She nodded convincingly, “Then I must have forgotten.”
After all, this was Shang Wandong. How could she possibly lie?
Shang Wandong nodded solemnly in agreement, then turned her head and continued her “crunch-crunch” pear eating.
The room fell into silence. After a while, Shang Wandong took the initiative to ask, “Should we tell Aunt Zhao about this?”
Yan Xia stiffened. Fiddling with her fingertips, which were now stained orange, she answered awkwardly, “…Better not.”
She lowered her head and whispered, “It’s not like she’d care anyway.”
Shang Wandong: “Mm. Then we won’t say anything.”
Yan Xia finished the last segment of the tangerine and said softly, “Teacher Shang… Wandong, I think I’m feeling better.”
Shang Wandong asked, “Going back to class then?”
Yan Xia thought for a moment and shook her head.
A glimmer of hope appeared in her eyes. With her eyelids drooping slightly, she looked quite pitiful. “Could you… walk around with me for a bit?”
Shang Wandong nodded. “Okay.”
A look of “mission accomplished” instantly flashed across Yan Xia’s face.
It was July. The sun was like fire, and the sweltering heat made people wish they could live inside a swimming pool.
The old banyan trees lining the sidewalk were warmed by the sun, casting patches of quiet, cool shade onto the ground.
Staring down at the spots of light beneath her feet, Yan Xia asked nonchalantly, “What medicine did you come to get today?”
“Suppressants.” Shang Wandong opened the plastic bag in her hand. Inside were several bottles of liquid medicine, a metal box, and the glucose for Yan Xia. “My rut is coming up.”
“Wow.”
“What ‘wow’?”
Shang Wandong turned to look at her. The sunlight hit her jet-black hair, making her beautiful eyes shine brilliantly.
Yan Xia pursed her lips and gave a feigned, shy smile. “I just can’t imagine what you’re like during your rut.”
An Alpha’s rut is different from an Omega’s heat. They don’t need special isolation and don’t lose their sanity; they can still walk around.
However, every Alpha has a different level of dependency on Omega pheromones. Some Alphas are heavily affected, and to prevent them from attacking other Omegas, they must wear a muzzle.
Shang Wandong said, “Make sure you stay far away from me when the time comes.”
Yan Xia’s eyes widened. “Is it that scary?”
“Yes.” Shang Wandong looked away, gazing at the sky. “During the rut, even I can’t remain completely rational.”
Little did she know that her well-intentioned warning only made Yan Xia excited.
System, tell me, if Shang Wandong accidentally bites my gland, and then I demand she take responsibility… Her smile froze. Wait, I don’t think I can be marked.
System: That is correct.
Yan Xia: Dammit, the plan failed!
System: An Alpha’s gland development is incomplete, but if the bite is deep enough, symptoms of a temporary mark will appear. However, it won’t last long.
Yan Xia looked miserable. What’s the point of a temporary mark? We’re both Alphas; we can’t get pregnant. How can I make her take responsibility?
System: …Host, your thoughts are quite bold.
Shang Wandong suddenly spoke: “It’s been an hour.”
Yan Xia didn’t react immediately. “What?”
Shang Wandong began leading her back with a serious expression. “An hour has passed. You should go back to class now.”
Yan Xia thought to herself: Dammit, I finally get some alone time, can we not be such a buzzkill!
“Can…can we stay out a bit longer? I don’t want to go back right now…”
She came up with a plan. Summoning her courage, she grabbed Shang Wandong’s wrist and said in a voice as soft as a mosquito, “I think that place… is disgusting.”
Shang Wandong paused.
She stopped walking and looked back at Yan Xia.
Yan Xia kept her head down, her bangs obscuring her eyes. The tips of her ears were bright red, and her slender fingers were trembling slightly, as if she were terrified to the core.
Shang Wandong’s tone softened. “Alright.”
It was a summer of sixteen or seventeen. On the playground, people were playing ball, and the sound of whistles drifted from afar.
The cicadas droned incessantly. Accompanied by strands of a light breeze, a faint sweet-and-sour scent wafted through the air, mixing with the bitter scent of sea salt.
All senses became exceptionally sharp; even the fingertips touching each other seemed to catch fire.
Sensing the other party’s concession, Yan Xia pushed her luck and leaned in, whispering, “Can I study with you when we go home today?”
“I won’t say a single word. I won’t disturb you… I’ll be very quiet.” She made a zipping motion over her mouth to show she’d stay silent, looking very well-behaved.
Shang Wandong, however, looked puzzled. “Why the sudden desire to study?”
“…Am I not allowed to want to study?”
Shang Wandong said, “Because you never studied before. This request is quite unexpected.”
Yan Xia took a deep breath. The female lead definitely studied, okay! It’s just that no matter how much she studied, her grades never improved!
“Because I suddenly want to turn over a new leaf and study hard,” Yan Xia said righteously. “Do you believe me?”
Under her serious gaze, Shang Wandong slowly nodded. “I believe you.”
She added, “Since you love learning so much, I shouldn’t disappoint you. As soon as the bell rings, let’s head back to class.”
