The General's Love Glitch - Chapter 53
After the unexpected mishap with the torn wedding dress was resolved, everything proceeded smoothly.
Following their vows, they exchanged rings. Jun Jue first placed the ring on Ruan Wei’s finger. Ruan Wei then took her hand, carefully confirming which finger it should go on before solemnly and earnestly sliding the ring onto Jun Jue’s finger as well.
During the luncheon, Ruan Wei changed into her second wedding dress, a grand, sweeping gown with a long train that made movement difficult. Jun Jue arranged for Tao Xinran and Sun Qian to accompany Ruan Wei in the bridal suite, where a table of her favorite dishes had been set up. After completing some unavoidable wedding formalities, Jun Jue returned to the suite to find Ruan Wei.
Ruan Wei was happily eating when Tao Xinran and Sun Qian noticed Jun Jue’s return and promptly excused themselves.
Alone in the bridal suite, Jun Jue sat beside Ruan Wei and continuously served her food.
Ruan Wei’s cheeks were puffed up from eating. The morning’s bridal procession had been too early, and she hadn’t eaten anything, leaving her ravenous now.
“Pretty Sister, aren’t you going to eat?” Ruan Wei held out a bite of food meant for herself toward Jun Jue, who opened her mouth and accepted it.
“What else is there to do this afternoon?” Ruan Wei asked curiously. Jun Jue had handled all the wedding arrangements, so she hadn’t had to worry about a thing.
Jun Jue gently tucked a stray lock of hair behind Ruan Wei’s ear, her fingers brushing against her lips.
“There are a few things I’ll handle myself. You just stay here and wait for me, don’t go out.”
“Can I take a nap then?” Ruan Wei looked up and asked.
Jun Jue’s lips curved into a smile. “If you’re tired, sleep. I’ll wake you in the evening for dinner and to change into the traditional wedding attire for our final ceremony.”
After lunch, drowsiness overtook Ruan Wei. She hadn’t slept a wink the night before, and now that she was full, sleepiness crept in.
“Take off the wedding dress and high heels before sleeping,” Jun Jue reminded her.
Ruan Wei began fumbling with the dress again, but the zipper was at her back, completely out of reach. Jun Jue stepped behind her. “Don’t move, Weiwei. Let me help.”
Warm breath brushed against the nape of Ruan Wei’s neck, sending a ticklish shiver down her spine. She obediently stilled.
In the quiet room, the sound of the zipper sliding down was distinct. Ruan Wei’s fair, elegantly curved back was exposed to the air.
Overcome with emotion, Jun Jue leaned down and pressed a kiss to her skin.
Ruan Wei felt as if an electric current had coursed through her body. The next moment, Jun Jue lifted her into her arms.
Just as countless fantasies flashed through Ruan Wei’s mind, Jun Jue gently laid her on the bed and tucked her in.
Ruan Wei reached out, clutching the blanket, her eyes fixed longingly on Jun Jue’s retreating figure.
Now she couldn’t sleep again.
…
Jun Jue had done her best to streamline the traditionally elaborate wedding rituals for the Chief Executive’s spouse, ensuring Ruan Wei only attended the essential formalities. Ruan Wei couldn’t drink, and high heels hurt her feet though she never complained, Jun Jue had noticed the red marks on her heels more than once.
For the afternoon ceremonies, Jun Jue excused Ruan Wei’s absence by citing discomfort, which only fueled more speculation and reinforced the belief that Ruan Wei might already be pregnant.
Jun Jue didn’t bother explaining further. By evening, she returned to the bridal suite to find Ruan Wei already dressed in the vibrant red wedding attire though the golden hairpins and red veil were still untouched.
“Hungry again?” Jun Jue walked to the bedside with a smile, smoothing out the slightly wrinkled fabric for Ruan Wei.
Ruan Wei shook her head.
Jun Jue helped her up and led her out for dinner. Before the meal, she guided Ruan Wei in serving tea to Uncle Zhang. Unsure of the proper etiquette, Ruan Wei simply mimicked Jun Jue’s actions.
During the day, Uncle Zhang wore the white suit he had previously ordered with Jun Jue, and in the evening, he changed into a festive traditional long gown worn by elders in ancient times. After drinking tea, he gave Ruan Wei a big red envelope.
In truth, when the Chief Executive asked him to attend the wedding banquet in the role of an elder, he felt both apprehensive and unworthy. But then it occurred to him that Jun Jue had no living parents, and indeed, there was no elder closer to her than him, so he agreed.
Ruan Wei happily accepted the thick red envelope. It had been ten years since she last received one after her parents passed away.
The thought that the portrait on the banknotes inside the envelope had changed from the previous Chief Executive to Jun Jue made her burst into laughter.
“Thank you, Uncle Zhang,” Ruan Wei said with an incredibly bright smile.
Familiar faces sat around the same table, enjoying a cheerful dinner together.
Jiang Tang remarked, “Today is such an important day, the Chief Executive and Madam Wei’s wedding. Shouldn’t we all have a toast?”
“Let’s drink!” Ruan Wei was the first to raise her glass, completely forgetting how she had gotten drunk after just one glass of wine last time.
Jun Jue had the waiter open a bottle of champagne. As the waiter poured for everyone, Ruan Wei eagerly held out her wine glass with both hands to make it easier. Jun Jue raised her hand to block the glass, and the waiter, understanding, moved on to pour for others.
Watching the waiter fill Jun Jue’s glass, Ruan Wei pouted and said, “Sister, you won’t even let me drink.”
Jun Jue sighed and leaned in to whisper softly, “Weiwei, if you get drunk, how will we… tonight-” She didn’t finish, but Ruan Wei clearly understood. Still, she sulked unhappily.
With a smile, Jun Jue poured Ruan Wei a glass of the pre-prepared coconut juice, sweetened with chewy fruit bits. When everyone stood to toast, Ruan Wei, though slightly disgruntled, played along.
The moment the sweet coconut juice touched her lips, the burst of flavor from the chewy fruit bits made Ruan Wei fall in love instantly. Her eyes sparkled several times brighter than before.
Jun Jue, her lips curved in a gentle smile, poured her another glass. “Thank you,” Ruan Wei said sweetly.
The whole table laughed at her sudden change in mood.
“Sister, more,” Ruan Wei nudged Jun Jue’s arm lightly. Jun Jue poured her a third glass and, noticing the white residue around Ruan Wei’s lips, wiped it away with her thumb.
“Take your time. It’s all yours.”
Recently, while working at the hospital, Ruan Wei had been watching Doraemon with the children. She thought Jun Jue was just like Doraemon, always able to conjure up things she loved.
…
After the banquet ended and the guests had departed, Jun Jue took Ruan Wei back to their newly decorated bridal chamber.
The room was bathed in a hazy red glow. As soon as they entered, Ruan Wei tugged Jun Jue’s hand and rushed inside. Jun Jue locked the door before following her.
At the bedside, Ruan Wei let go of her hand, sat primly on the edge, and draped a red veil over her head. Jun Jue glanced at the golden hairpin ornaments left on the side table but, remembering Ruan Wei disliked fuss, chose to ignore them.
“Sister, hurry up and lift my veil!” Ruan Wei’s excited voice came from beneath the red fabric.
Jun Jue took a deep breath, picked up the golden ruyi scepter beside her, and gently lifted the veil. Ruan Wei slowly raised her eyes to meet Jun Jue’s gaze, her clear eyes brimming with joy.
“Does this mean the ceremony is completely over now?”
“Sister, are we done with the wedding?” Ruan Wei asked excitedly.
Jun Jue smiled and shook her head. “There’s still the most important step left.”
Ruan Wei looked at her in confusion. “What’s the final step?”
Jun Jue chuckled softly. “Weiwei, do you still want to taste the champagne?”
“Huh?” Ruan Wei blinked in surprise. “I do, but didn’t you say you were afraid I’d get drunk and wouldn’t be able to… tonight?”
Jun Jue reached out, wrapping an arm around Ruan Wei’s waist and pulling her forward. Ruan Wei landed lightly on her lap, while Jun Jue leaned back against the bed frame, leaving Ruan Wei suddenly a few centimeters taller.
Gazing up at her with tender affection, Jun Jue’s eyes were so warm and lingering that Ruan Wei felt her throat go dry.
Flustered, Ruan Wei wrapped her arms around Jun Jue’s neck and asked shyly, “Sister, what are you doing?”
Jun Jue smiled. “Weiwei, kiss me.”
Ruan Wei’s face flushed instantly. Closing her eyes, she leaned down and pressed her lips to Jun Jue’s.
