The General's Love Glitch - Chapter 3
As Jun Jue finished speaking, she noticed Ruan Wei pressing her lips together and staying still.
Quite obedient.
Her gaze softened slightly as she turned away.
Ruan Wei only dared to move once Jun Jue had turned her back. She craned her neck forward, not even blinking, afraid that the pretty sister would abandon her and leave.
Having risen to the rank of general, Jun Jue had encountered many dangers and was highly sensitive to being watched.
She could sense Ruan Wei’s gaze lingering on her, devoid of any hostility.
Her long, straight legs clad in military boots stepped across the cracked, rocky terrain, the irregular crunching sounds echoing in the night. Jun Jue circled the area twice but found nothing unusual.
“Pretty sister, did you find anything?”
Ruan Wei remained seated in the same spot, only tilting her head up to look at her with concern.
“No,” Jun Jue replied casually.
If her two personal guards were still here, they would have asked the same thing.
Summoning her courage, Ruan Wei asked again, “Are you sure you don’t need my help to look? My eyesight is really good.”
Jun Jue found it absurd. She had only ever heard of nocturnal animals like owls having excellent night vision.
Ruan Wei’s claim struck her as unbelievable.
“I’ve already promised, and I don’t go back on my word. There’s no need to lie.”
“I…” Ruan Wei wanted to explain but stopped herself, remembering her sensitive identity. She lowered her head dejectedly.
Perhaps it was better to speak less, lest she reveal too much and upset the pretty sister.
Jun Jue stood with her arms crossed about two meters away, taking in Ruan Wei’s crestfallen expression.
She glanced up at the sky, judging by the moon’s position and brightness that there were roughly three hours until dawn. The best course of action now was to rest and resume the search at daybreak.
“Let’s rest first.”
With that, Jun Jue removed the silver fox mecha necklace from around her neck and inspected it. The mecha had only suffered superficial scratches, with no major damage.
It was a keepsake from her parents, the most advanced and fully functional mecha in the known galaxy, at least based on current intelligence.
Jun Jue summoned the mecha and entered its cabin to rest.
Before closing her eyes, she glanced outside. Ruan Wei was still sitting on the ground, but after a moment, she stood and moved closer, stopping at the foot of the silver fox mecha. This time, she didn’t hug her legs but leaned her back against the mecha’s leg, sitting there quietly.
Jun Jue: “…”
Didn’t she have her own mecha?
Jun Jue closed her eyes, deciding not to interfere. Yet an inexplicable restlessness gnawed at her, and Ruan Wei’s face kept surfacing in her mind.
She opened her eyes again and checked on Ruan Wei through the main cabin’s control screen.
Ruan Wei was leaning against the mecha’s leg, seemingly already asleep.
The surface of Planet G30 had no protective structures or buildings. When the howling night wind suddenly picked up, even inside the mecha’s cabin, Jun Jue could hear the roaring gale and the sound of flying debris.
Through the screen, she saw Ruan Wei stir awake, rubbing her eyes before looking up with a despondent expression.
What was she thinking? Jun Jue couldn’t help but wonder. Was she envious that Jun Jue had shelter from the wind?
Ruan Wei’s thin black clothing was tattered, barely covering her body and offering no protection against the cold. It was already early autumn, and with the fierce wind, the temperature was only dropping.
She must be freezing. Jun Jue guessed.
At that moment, Ruan Wei rubbed her arms, which were covered in fine dust and sand. But to Jun Jue’s eyes, it looked like she was cold.
Jun Jue still didn’t know about her half-vampire heritage, she wasn’t particularly fond of low temperatures, but she was at least well-adapted to them.
Jun Jue had already escalated the issue in her mind to the point where she believed Ruan Wei might freeze to death if she didn’t do something.
She could choose to invite Ruan Wei into her mech to rest, but she never allowed anyone inside. It involved classified parameters of the Silver Fox mech, and safeguarding such secrets was a principle she upheld as a soldier.
Moreover, the Silver Fox mech was a precious relic left by her parents, how could she casually let an unrelated person, whose identity was still unclear, enter?
On the control screen, Ruan Wei continued rubbing her arms, seemingly genuinely cold.
Jun Jue couldn’t bear to watch, unable to do nothing. After five minutes of deep thought, she came up with a solution.
Soldiers on the battlefield often had to rest in harsh conditions, and right now, with the raging winds and flying sand, the mech was the safest and warmest refuge.
Inside the mech’s cockpit were various daily necessities and emergency supplies. Jun Jue folded her own blanket and handed it out through the hatch, where the mech’s arm immediately caught it.
She then maneuvered the mech to bend down, attempting to pass the folded blanket to Ruan Wei for warmth.
Ruan Wei, of course, noticed the dramatic movement of the striking Silver Fox mech. The mech bent toward her, its palm extended right in front of her, holding a neatly folded dark blue cotton blanket that looked incredibly soft and cozy.
This was the work of the pretty sister controlling the mech.
She understood, the pretty sister was giving her a place to rest, sheltered from the wind and sand!
“Thank you, pretty sister!” Ruan Wei exclaimed happily, raising her voice to ensure her sincere gratitude was heard.
After prolonged silence, the sudden loud voice caught Jun Jue off guard.
Accustomed to the deep, robust, or sternly authoritative voices of soldiers, the sweet, soft tone echoing inside the mech’s cockpit was unexpectedly pleasant.
In the blink of an eye, Jun Jue sensed Ruan Wei making another move.
The mech’s pilot shared sensory feedback with the machine. Opening her eyes, she saw Ruan Wei reaching for the edge of the mech’s palm, trying to climb up.
Her palm tingled. Jun Jue lifted both hands from the control panel, rubbing them vigorously. Without commands, the mech remained still, allowing Ruan Wei to successfully climb onto its palm.
Jun Jue watched helplessly as Ruan Wei misunderstood her intentions and began settling in on the Silver Fox mech’s palm, smiling as she folded the blanket in half, spread it out, and wrapped herself up inside.
Jun Jue: “…”
Once Ruan Wei lay quietly on the mech’s palm, Jun Jue felt the tingling in her hand subside.
She placed her hands back on the controls, debating whether to toss Ruan Wei off. She had only meant to give her the blanket for warmth, never expecting her to push her luck like this.
But it was also her fault for not clarifying.
After wavering for a while, Jun Jue ultimately couldn’t bring herself to be ruthless.
Feeling the weight in her palm, she consoled herself: Wrapped in a blanket, it technically doesn’t count as direct contact.
Once she rationalized it, she accepted the fact that Ruan Wei had made a makeshift bed on the Silver Fox mech’s palm.
“Mmm~ So comfy.”
“It’d be even better if it could completely block the wind and sand.”
The voice transmitted from the Silver Fox mech’s palm into the cockpit. Jun Jue watched as Ruan Wei stood up to brush off the sand and gravel from the blanket and the mech’s palm, her sharp, long eyebrows slightly furrowing. That itching sensation in her palm returned.
Barely restraining herself from tossing Ruan Wei off, she endured the itch and manipulated the mech’s other arm, its hand hovering protectively over the one Ruan Wei was standing on.
Ruan Wei looked up at the sudden windbreak above her, too overjoyed to speak. She recognized it as the Silver Fox mech’s other hand, shielding her not only from the sandstorm but also blocking the moonlight, providing her with a perfect resting environment.
The person on her palm quieted down for a moment, prompting Jun Jue to issue a warning.
“Rest once you’re done. Don’t move around.”
“Okay. Thank you, pretty sister!”
Ruan Wei swiftly spread out the blanket and lay down. This time, she didn’t wrap herself in it but lay directly on top, ensuring she wouldn’t overheat.
Before closing her eyes, Ruan Wei whispered, “Goodnight, pretty sister.”
After a few seconds of silence, she wasn’t disheartened and happily drifted off to sleep.
It had been a long time since she’d had a good night’s rest. With such ideal conditions tonight, she was sure to sleep well!
Jun Jue heard Ruan Wei’s words but didn’t respond.
It seemed this was the first time anyone had ever wished her goodnight.
At home, she usually just went straight to sleep. During military campaigns, her subordinates would only say, “We’ll keep watch, General. You rest awhile.”
Now, she was alone. The soldiers who had fought and died alongside her had perished under mysterious circumstances, and she was determined to uncover the truth.
“Achoo!”
A sudden sneeze from her palm disrupted Jun Jue’s thoughts. Already unable to sleep, the sound reminded her of Ruan Wei, further tangling her mind.
Out of curiosity, she moved the mech’s hand aside and saw on the screen that Ruan Wei was lying directly on the blanket without covering herself, no wonder she’d sneezed.
The sandstorm outside was still raging. Jun Jue took one glance before closing her hand again.
Ruan Wei’s curled-up sleeping position, right in the center, made it impractical to tuck the blanket around her, it would easily come loose.
Not feasible.
Jun Jue shook her head, dismissing the idea, then found a dark brown cashmere throw inside the cockpit.
She gently draped it over Ruan Wei using the mech.
The high-definition screen revealed a stark contrast, Ruan Wei’s exposed skin was strikingly pale, almost ghostly yet not sickly, exuding an eerie mystique in the dim light.
Moreover, unless she was mistaken, the injuries on Ruan Wei’s face seemed to have lessened.
And there was something else she might have overlooked.
Jun Jue immediately checked the time on the mech’s display.
It was 5:31 AM on April 17, 110 New Stellar Calendar.
Her entire battalion of a thousand soldiers had perished, and she had been severely wounded and unconscious just yesterday.
How had Ruan Wei healed her in such a short time?
A sharp glint gathered in Jun Jue’s eyes as she opened the mech’s hand again, instinctively positioning it to block the wind and sand.
Ruan Wei lay on her side, sleeping peacefully, the cashmere throw already kicked off at some point.
“Achoo!”
Jun Jue: “…”
Perhaps a draft had crept in, making Ruan Wei cold again, yet she remained undisturbed in her slumber.
It seemed Ruan Wei hadn’t the slightest guard up against her.
Jun Jue gazed at Ruan Wei, who was in a sweet and deep slumber, with a complicated expression.
No sense of danger whatsoever.
Her intelligence didn’t seem particularly high either.
Was there really any ulterior motive in getting close to her?
Unlikely, but there were indeed many suspicious points.
Should she toss her down now and wake her up for questioning?
Jun Jue stared at Ruan Wei’s sleeping face, hesitating for a long time.
In the end, she merely pulled the kicked-off blanket back over Ruan Wei and closed the palm of the Silver Fox mech.
She’d ask tomorrow. She needed rest too.
