The General's Love Glitch - Chapter 2
By the time the sun had completely set, Ruan Wei had crawled to the person’s side.
A cold crescent moon hung alone in the sky, with hardly a cloud in sight.
Yet Ruan Wei was overjoyed.
Not only had she escaped the pursuit of those two vile men, but she had also found someone to snuggle up to. A long-lost smile spread across her face, but the movement tugged at her wounds, sending a sharp pain through her. She quickly suppressed her grin.
Propping herself up with her hands, she struggled to lift her upper body and take a closer look. Lying on the ground was a female soldier, clad in a black military uniform adorned with various metal insignias on her shoulders likely an officer of some rank.
A reflexive fear surged through Ruan Wei, and she instinctively leaned back. The men who had imprisoned her and chased her were also soldiers.
But this was a female officer. Though her face was smeared with blood from her injuries, her striking, handsome features made her seem unlike a bad person.
After a moment of hesitation, Ruan Wei inched closer again.
She reached out a finger to check the woman’s breathing and found it faint but still present.
The pretty sister was alive.
Should she save her?
Ruan Wei didn’t hesitate for long. She bent down and, making the most of the situation, licked away the blood from the woman’s face and neck.
Her hunger subsided significantly. Truthfully, she didn’t particularly like the taste of blood, the blood she had been forced to drink in prison had been tainted with all sorts of strange flavors, like harsh liquor or pungent, low-quality tobacco.
Today, for the first time, she had tasted truly delicious blood.
The blood on the pretty sister was half-dried and half-fresh, but Ruan Wei didn’t waste a single drop, savoring every bit of her feast.
Once the blood was cleaned away, only a few glaring wounds remained on the woman’s face and neck, gaping injuries left by weapons piercing through her armor.
Ruan Wei licked her lips and pressed closer to the pretty sister. A blue-violet glow flickered in the night, and soon, those wounds had transferred onto Ruan Wei’s own body.
It hurt so much.
Even after being imprisoned in an underground cell for years, forced to transfer wounds day after day, this was the first time she had experienced such excruciating pain.
A lifetime of enduring pain had numbed her to ordinary suffering, but this, this was different. It wasn’t just her body; every strand of her thoughts, every nerve, seemed to scream in agony.
Fortunately, her healing ability was strong, the most powerful trait of her half-vampire nature.
But right now, it really, really hurt!
Ruan Wei whimpered from the pain. She draped herself over the pretty sister, nuzzling her cheek against the woman’s in her favorite way of snuggling.
But it wasn’t enough to ease the pain. She needed more strength to endure it.
Her small fangs naturally extended from the corners of her mouth. The delicious meal was right in front of her, and gaining strength was simple, just bite into the pretty sister’s neck and take a few sips of blood.
How easy was that?
She had saved the pretty sister, after all. Surely she wouldn’t be so stingy.
Ruan Wei’s pitch-black pupils had now turned violet, and her lips, baring her tiny fangs, hovered over the woman’s fair, tempting neck.
“Pretty sister, can I just take one bite?”
No response.
“I’m going to bite now.”
Unable to resist any longer, Ruan Wei sank her teeth in.
The pretty sister’s blood was absolutely divine!
She was a vampire of her word, just one sip, as promised. With restraint, she took only a single taste of blood, then licked the wound clean. The small puncture marks from her sharp fangs vanished without a trace.
Ruan Wei climbed off the beautiful woman and sat to the side, savoring the lingering sweetness in her mouth. She swallowed repeatedly, relishing the aftertaste. If this was the kind of blood she could have, she wouldn’t mind drinking it every day.
Lost in her reverie, Ruan Wei didn’t notice the slight twitch of fingers from the woman lying beside her.
Jun Jue’s first sensation upon waking was a numb tingling at the side of her neck, like the aftermath of battlefield injuries when no medical pod was available, forcing medics to rely on primitive techniques: anesthesia first, then treatment.
Wait… Hadn’t their entire unit been wiped out? How was there still a doctor treating her?
Jun Jue struggled to open her eyes, and the first thing she saw was an unfamiliar face.
Her immediate reaction was to seize the stranger by the throat and pin her to the ground.
“Who are you?” Jun Jue demanded, her voice sharp with suspicion.
Ruan Wei was too stunned to speak at first. After a long pause, she finally managed, “I-I’m Ruan Wei.”
“Who the hell is Ruan Wei?”
Jun Jue was never one for mercy. Anyone who appeared near her without a clear identity, regardless of gender was a potential threat, and she showed no leniency.
Even if the person in question was a delicate, pitiful-looking beauty, she wouldn’t soften her stance.
Ruan Wei burst into tears.
Cold, lifeless tears streamed down her cheeks, dripping onto Jun Jue’s hand.
Jun Jue twisted her neck slightly, ignoring the teardrops on her skin. But then she noticed something else around the girl’s neck, alongside the chokehold of her own “hand of death,” was a collar.
“Talk.”
Terrified, Ruan Wei squeezed her eyes shut. Her long, curled lashes glistened with tears. “W-what should I say?”
Jun Jue scanned their surroundings. The only sound was the wind. This girl had appeared out of nowhere, and somehow, her injuries were nearly healed.
“Did you heal my wounds?” Jun Jue could only direct the question at the girl before her.
“Y-yes…” Ruan Wei nodded vigorously, eyes still shut, her voice trembling.
“I-I mean no harm, pretty sister.”
Jun Jue couldn’t help but glance at Ruan Wei. Someone actually called her “pretty sister”? That was a first.
But flattery wouldn’t work on her.
“Are you from Tyran Star?”
“N-no, no…” Ruan Wei shook her head, then hesitantly asked, “Is this planet called Tyran Star?”
Jun Jue fell silent. The girl didn’t seem to be lying but then again, she could just be a good actress. It was impossible to tell for sure.
She studied the girl more closely. Her skin was pale and delicate, yet covered in wounds. The collar around her neck and the tattered black clothing barely covering her body made her look like a criminal on the run or perhaps some noble’s plaything, a caged songbird for their amusement.
“What crime did you commit?”
“I didn’t commit any crime!” Ruan Wei suddenly grew agitated. “There were bad people trying to capture me, pretty sister. I barely escaped…”
Overwhelmed by the painful memory, Ruan Wei broke down in helpless sobs.
Tears pattered down, landing on Jun Jue’s hand.
Finally, something stirred in Jun Jue. She loosened her grip on the girl’s throat. As she did, she caught sight of two vivid red marks, one left by her own hand.
“Open your eyes.”
Perhaps it was because the girl looked so utterly pitiful, but Jun Jue’s voice softened without her realizing it.
Ruan Wei obediently opened her eyes, rubbing her sore neck before hastily wiping away her tears.
Jun Jue quietly observed the girl. Delicate and timid, she didn’t seem like a wicked person at all. Besides, she had saved her. Jun Jue decided not to press further and stood up on her own.
The ground was littered with corpses, subordinates and soldiers who had once fought by her side.
The unsettling scene before she lost consciousness flooded back into her mind.
The soldiers had charged forward against orders, like soulless puppets on strings.
Something was off.
And her Silver Fox mech was nowhere to be found.
“Pretty sister, is this Silver Fox pendant yours?”
The voice came from below. Jun Jue looked down to see Ruan Wei holding out the Silver Fox pendant in her palm, the very one from her mech’s necklace.
She reached out and took back what was hers. Ruan Wei barely caught the movement, letting out a surprised “Huh?”
Jun Jue had no intention of engaging with her. She stood up, ready to examine the fallen soldiers for any clues.
Glancing at the pale moonlight overhead, she knew the dim light would make it difficult to find anything. But she couldn’t just sit idle.
“Pretty sister, where are you going?”
Jun Jue felt resistance, Ruan Wei had wrapped her arms around her leg.
“Let go,” Jun Jue said coldly, glaring down at her.
“Let go if you don’t want to die.” Her tone grew sharper with impatience.
But Ruan Wei only clung tighter. “Then kill me, pretty sister. I’d rather die by your hand than be dragged back by those bad people.”
Jun Jue froze. It was the first time someone had ever said they’d prefer to die by her hand.
She tried to pull her leg free, but Ruan Wei held on stubbornly, refusing to let go.
“Pretty sister, take me with you, please? I don’t want to be caught again. Those bad people won’t let me go. If you keep me by your side, I can help heal your wounds, and I promise I won’t cause you any trouble.” Ruan Wei clung to her leg, pleading desperately.
Jun Jue remained unmoved. Ruan Wei was trouble in and of herself.
But Ruan Wei had saved her. And given how severe her injuries had been, she wasn’t sure she would have survived without her.
“Pretty sister, please take me with you. I’m begging you.”
Jun Jue wasn’t heartless, she wavered slightly.
But she knew her own path was far from safe. She tried to dissuade her with words.
“You say someone is after you, but the place I’m heading is no sanctuary either. Are you sure you want to come with me?”
“Yes.”
Ruan Wei nodded firmly. Nothing could be worse than the place she had been trapped before.
Jun Jue hadn’t expected such resolve. The lingering suspicion in her mind deepened. If Ruan Wei had ulterior motives, keeping her close might help uncover them.
“Let go first,” Jun Jue said coolly. She disliked physical contact, let alone being clung to like this for so long.
“Thank you, pretty sister!”
Realizing she had been granted permission, Ruan Wei beamed and immediately released her leg. Then, tilting her head up, she stretched out a hand, smiling sweetly at the woman looking down at her.
“Pretty sister, will you help me up?”
Ruan Wei still wanted to get closer. Since the pretty sister didn’t seem to like her much yet, she couldn’t ask outright, she had to resort to tricks like this.
Unaware of the girl’s intentions, Jun Jue turned away. “Get up yourself. I don’t like touching people.”
Ruan Wei widened her eyes in surprise, her damp, long lashes fluttering open, glistening with unshed tears.
The pretty sister didn’t like being touched, but when she had just been treating her wounds earlier…
Thankfully, she hadn’t said anything.
She had almost blurted out that she wasn’t human, that she was half-human, half-vampire. But if she had, she would have been killed on the spot. So she swallowed her words and pushed herself up from the ground with her hands.
Jun Jue had already begun weaving through the scattered mechas, searching for clues, with a little shadow trailing closely behind her, step for step.
“Pretty sister, are you looking for something?”
Jun Jue responded with a perfunctory hum.
Then she heard Ruan Wei’s voice again from behind: “My eyesight is really good. If you tell me what you’re looking for, I promise I’ll help you find it.”
Jun Jue’s lips curled slightly, but she ignored her.
“Pretty sister, can you even see in this darkness?”
“Pretty sister, are you hungry?”
“Pretty sister, you-”
Jun Jue suddenly turned around. Remembering her aversion to physical contact, Ruan Wei slammed on the brakes, only to stumble backward.
As she fell, Ruan Wei hoped the pretty sister might take pity and reach out to catch her.
Instead, she landed hard on her backside, the impact making her let out a soft hiss of pain.
From start to finish, Jun Jue merely watched indifferently, her eyes devoid of any ripple of emotion.
“Stay quiet. Don’t speak.”
