- The Fox Spirit Raised by the Villain Wants to Defect
- Chapter 4 - Extremely Vexed and Provoked
“Then prove it to me.”
This short sentence brought Xiao Yu hope.
The young girl’s eyes instantly widened. Her cunning fox-like eyes were round, and even the fox ears atop her head stood up with great alertness.
Xiao Yu had not expected Wen Yu to be so agreeable. He had previously mentioned something about having her tempt him—surely that… that shouldn’t count anymore, right?
She glanced at the people behind Wen Yu who were busy caring for the wounded and had no time to notice them. Xiao Yu opened her mouth but still couldn’t bring herself to ask.
It was just too embarrassing and strange.
It didn’t sound like something Wen Yu, based on his character, would ever say.
In any case, if he didn’t bring it up, she would just pretend he never said it.
“Then, then I—” Xiao Yu reached out, pointing at the platform built from architectural debris beneath Wen Yu’s feet: “Can I come up first? The water is a bit cold.”
Wen Yu stepped aside, watching the demon trying to climb up using both hands.
As her body emerged from the water, she suddenly lost strength and fell back in.
Xiao Yu had an injury on her shoulder, making it impossible to exert force, and the pain made her furrow her brows.
A corner of a white garment flashed across Xiao Yu’s sightline.
The water was truly too cold, and not wanting to be frozen any longer, Xiao Yu dared to tug at Wen Yu’s robe corner, pleading, “Daozhang, could you pull me up? My shoulder was scratched by that stinky bird just now…”
As she spoke, her voice gradually weakened.
Only a few seconds after she finished speaking, Xiao Yu’s body suddenly lifted into the air and landed steadily on the platform.
After finding her footing, Xiao Yu quickly rearranged her sliding clothes, curling her toes against the ground, wishing she could find a hole to crawl into.
The original body’s clothes, intended to seduce Wen Yu, offered no resistance to the cold.
As soon as she emerged from the water, the cold wind blew, making her shiver.
“Thank you, Daozhang,” Xiao Yu forced out the words through chattering teeth.
She had to leave a good, polite impression on Wen Yu. Whether it was to prove her sincerity to him to gain his protection, or to falsely agree to the villain’s side to lure Wen Yu, she needed to stay by his side.
The girl huddled, dripping water all over and looking quite pathetic after just emerging from the cold water.
Wen Yu merely glanced at her, then took out a garment from his Jiezi Talisman (spatial storage) and handed it to her.
“It’s new.”
Xiao Yu quickly took it, wrapped herself, and repeatedly expressed her gratitude.
“Daozhang is truly a good person.”
The clothing looked similar in style to what Wen Yu was wearing, and she immediately felt warm all over after putting it on, though she didn’t know what material it was made of.
Hearing this, Wen Yu turned his gaze toward the fox spirit tidying her wet hair.
Duanmu Ying’s anxious voice rang out at that moment: “Master, my Senior Brother doesn’t look right. Please come and see.”
Xiao Yu looked over curiously and saw Wen Yu had already walked toward the commotion.
Many people lay there, all appearing unconscious.
Duanmu Ying held a person in her arms. They were some distance away, and without bright light, the face was hard to see clearly.
However, the person she held could only be the original novel’s male protagonist, Nan Chenghui.
The author had set the male protagonist’s identity as a demon, viewed as a disaster by the human realm.
Xiao Yu recalled reading the novel up to the midpoint: after the heroine discovered the male protagonist was a demon, she was distraught for a long time. Later, when the male protagonist’s identity was exposed, Wen Yu was the one who stepped forward to resolve the situation.
In summary, the heroine did not yet know the male protagonist was a demon. After the male protagonist was rescued, his physical condition worsened, and Wen Yu immediately took him away for treatment before the heroine could discover his true nature.
Therefore, Wen Yu should now take the male protagonist directly out of the Demon Domain and go to the town where the rescued humans were located, where he would stay for a few days.
Xiao Yu immediately smiled.
This is great. I can finally leave this place.
Once she was out of here, the bird monitoring her shouldn’t return, and she would be safe!
After examining Nan Chenghui’s body, Wen Yu’s expression grew slightly serious.
“We must leave this place first.”
He took out a palm-sized paper boat from his Jiezi Talisman, injected spiritual power into it, and the paper boat instantly grew large, floating mid-air and moving without wind.
“You, take the others onto the boat.”
Wen Yu gave the instruction to Duanmu Ying. He took the person from her arms, and as he turned, he saw the fox spirit peering curiously from not far behind him.
Duanmu Ying, standing nearby, also saw her and asked, “Master, are you also taking that demon back with us?”
Wen Yu simply hummed in agreement, his gaze fixed on the fox spirit who immediately pretended to look elsewhere when she saw him looking at her.
He slightly raised his voice: “Come here.”
Xiao Yu pretended to look at the stars and the moon. Hearing Wen Yu call her, she immediately walked over.
She had only taken a few steps when her foot began to hurt severely.
She lifted her foot and saw that the sole of her left foot had been cut open sometime before. The footprints she had left on the ground marked a certain liquid that was not red.
Xiao Yu cursed her bad luck, looked up, and saw Wen Yu had already turned to board the ship.
She had no choice but to endure the pain and try her best to walk over.
Standing aside and watching Duanmu Ying transport the unconscious people onto the flying vessel, Xiao Yu couldn’t help but marvel.
This mode of transport is so convenient. It can change size and doesn’t take up space.
Xiao Yu was lost in thought when she suddenly heard someone call out.
“Are you getting on or not?”
She focused her eyes and saw Duanmu Ying standing on the ship, looking down at her.
Wen Yu was already gone.
Xiao Yu looked at the platform, which was at least three meters high, and with the height of the boat, there was no way she could get up.
The original body was a demon, so she must have a way, but since transmigrating, she didn’t know how to use the original body’s power to get on board.
If only Wen Yu would pull her up again.
“I was just injured by that stinky bird. Can you help me get up?”
Having no other options, she could only ask Duanmu Ying for help.
Duanmu Ying put her hands on her hips, unwilling to bother; not having killed this demon was already a courtesy.
“Then stay down there. This ship doesn’t welcome demons.”
With that, she turned to leave.
Xiao Yu became anxious and blurted out, “Wen Yu specifically told me to follow him! If he finds out I haven’t gotten on, he’s definitely going to ask you. Aren’t you afraid he’ll blame you?”
In the book, although Duanmu Ying would sometimes lose her temper in front of Wen Yu, it was because Wen Yu rarely controlled her.
If Wen Yu were genuinely angry, Duanmu Ying wouldn’t dare utter a single sound.
She spoke to Duanmu Ying this way for two reasons: one, she was desperate not to be left behind, and two, she was certain that Duanmu Ying, fearing Wen Yu’s reprisal, would bring her up.
Sure enough, Duanmu Ying’s expression changed. Reluctantly, she used spiritual power to lift Xiao Yu onto the ship.
As soon as Xiao Yu landed on the boat, Duanmu Ying withdrew her spiritual power.
Xiao Yu was caught off guard and fell from a height of half a meter, causing the wound on her sole to tear open further.
“Duanmu Ying, why— couldn’t you have been gentler?”
Xiao Yu sat down on the ship. Seeing the blood oozing from her sole, she had to use the clothes Wen Yu had given her to bandage the wound.
“A demon expects me to wait on her? You’re still alive and well right now; you should be thanking me for not killing you.” Disdain was apparent on the pretty face, which then turned to surprise: “How do you know my name—”
Duanmu Ying drew her sword and held it against Xiao Yu’s neck. A thought flashed through her mind, and she speculated, “Aha, you are indeed up to no good, deliberately approaching my Master and trying to harm us, aren’t you?”
Although she was far away when Wen Yu and Xiao Yu were talking earlier, she had caught a few words, such as “swear.”
Now this fox demon even spoke her name. She must have been plotting to approach them all along.
Ordinarily, she would kill any demon she encountered. She didn’t know what her Master was planning by wanting to keep this fox demon.
The cold blade pressed against her neck, causing Xiao Yu to flinch, her neck stiffening as she didn’t dare move.
“I’m not trying to harm you.”
Though Xiao Yu was afraid of the sword at her neck, her expression remained relatively calm.
It might also be because she had read the book and understood Duanmu Ying’s character, so she wasn’t extremely frightened.
In this book, only Wen Yu and the yet-to-appear villainous Demon Lord were the most powerful. As long as these two didn’t pursue her, she should be safe.
Duanmu Ying didn’t believe her.
She raised an eyebrow, forcing a look of mockery.
“You demons are all habitual liars, not one of you is any good. When I tell my Master, someone will deal with you naturally.”
Xiao Yu had just let out a breath of relief, but her heart leaped to her throat when she heard Duanmu Ying’s words.
“However, before that, I’ll teach you a lesson on behalf of those people who were imprisoned and tortured. Master won’t blame me.”
Duanmu Ying moved in front of Xiao Yu, facing her. She raised her sword and tapped Xiao Yu’s face with the tip of the blade.
The cold, sharp edge of the blade contacted her cheek, instantly cutting a shallow wound from which liquid spread out.
Xiao Yu only felt some warm liquid sliding down her cheek, and in her line of sight, a drop of blue liquid stained the pure white garment.
Her pupils suddenly contracted.
A red light flashed in her eyes when she saw the blood. The pupils, which had been indistinguishable from a human’s, shed their disguise, turning from round to vertically slit, almost contracting into a line.
For a moment, Xiao Yu felt intensely angry.
To be frank, it was the original body that wanted to harm Wen Yu. Ever since she transmigrated, she hadn’t done anything detrimental to Wen Yu and his group, and she had even told them where Nan Chenghui was imprisoned.
Why did Duanmu Ying keep targeting her?
Was it just because the original body was a demon?
Xiao Yu tilted her head, dodging the blade. Her hand covered the wounded area, touching the sticky liquid covering her palm.
Reflected in her vertically-oval pupils was Duanmu Ying’s contemptuous expression.
Xiao Yu opened her mouth: “You—”
Suddenly, she lost her will to speak. She couldn’t provoke Duanmu Ying.
She currently had no ability to protect herself. She had to endure it for now and seek revenge later when she became stronger.
“What, do you want to kill me?” Duanmu Ying disdainfully flicked the demon’s blood off her sword, letting out a sneer. She looked at Xiao Yu as if she were looking at an ant.
“No, how would I dare?” Xiao Yu quickly covered the wound with her clothing to stop the bleeding.
Duanmu Ying snorted, sarcastically adding, “I figured you wouldn’t dare. I’ve killed at least a thousand demons. If you try anything tricky, just wait to die.”
What she said indeed struck at Xiao Yu’s biggest concern, so she could only pretend to submit.
I warn you, don’t harbor any ill intentions—
“What are you talking about?”
A clear, cold voice interrupted Duanmu Ying’s words. Xiao Yu finally saw her savior. She turned her head and saw Wen Yu walking out of the ship’s cabin.
The fox ears on the girl’s head immediately rose. The pupils, no longer masked by demon power, revealed their original, fox-like cunning.
She looked expectantly at Wen Yu, her burning eyes brighter than a candlelight.
“You, come inside with me.” Wen Yu stood there, beckoning Xiao Yu and waiting for her to walk over.
