The Film Queen Is Cold and Ruthless, Only Sends Money - Chapter 52.2
In her memories, she had told Su Yun these stories before. It was unexpected that at a different time, Su Yun would ask the same question again.
After listening to Jiang Zhi’s casual gossip, Su Yun was utterly stunned. “I knew relationships in the entertainment industry were complicated, but I never imagined they could be this convoluted!”
Jiang Zhi nodded and said, “But these cases are still in the minority. There are plenty of good actors out there.”
Su Yun tilted her head slightly in agreement. “Like you, for example. I don’t think you’re that kind of person your acting must be great.”
Her tone was firm, not so much a question as a statement of fact.
Admittedly, this baseless trust lifted Jiang Zhi’s spirits considerably.
After a moment of quiet delight, Jiang Zhi teased, “What if my acting is terrible? What if I’m actually the subject of other people’s gossip?”
Su Yun shook her head emphatically. “Definitely not!”
Jiang Zhi couldn’t help but laugh. “You trust me that much? You haven’t even seen any of my movies, have you?”
“Even though I haven’t watched them, I can say with certainty that your films must be excellent,” Su Yun insisted, unwavering in her conviction.
She added, “Didn’t you say that in another world, we were already a couple? Well, I trust my own taste!”
Rather than saying she trusted Jiang Zhi, it was more accurate to say Su Yun trusted herself.
How could the person she liked possibly be anything less than amazing?
Jiang Zhi: “…”
Lunch was once again prepared by Jiang Zhi. Watching her move around the kitchen, Su Yun couldn’t help but think she resembled the legendary “Snail Girl.”
After the meal, Su Yun remembered she had to return to work the next day. She turned to Jiang Zhi and asked, “Want to go out for a walk?”
She felt incredibly at ease around Jiang Zhi, though she didn’t dwell on the reason, simply treating it as an invitation between friends.
Jiang Zhi nodded. “Sure, a casual stroll sounds nice.”
Since arriving here, she hadn’t really taken the time to explore the surroundings. She wondered if there were any noticeable differences.
As they prepared to leave, Jiang Zhi instinctively asked Su Yun, “Do you have a mask?”
Su Yun blinked. “Do you need one? I can grab one for you.”
Jiang Zhi paused, then chuckled. “I used to be in the habit of wearing one whenever I went out, but I don’t need it now.”
In the past, masks and hats had been non-negotiable accessories whenever she stepped outside. This was the first time she could go out without any disguise.
Su Yun caught on. “Then take this chance to enjoy yourself. People here probably won’t recognize you, at most, they’ll just think, ‘Wow, what a beauty!'”
Neither of them had a specific destination in mind, so they simply wandered around the neighborhood, taking in the scenery.
Walking beside Jiang Zhi, Su Yun asked, “Is it the same as your world?”
“Not much difference,” Jiang Zhi replied, observing the trees, flowers, and occasional students in uniforms their youthful energy was palpable.
“Honestly, I think this might be the first time I’ve ever wandered around without a purpose,” Su Yun mused as she strolled, glancing at Jiang Zhi. “It feels refreshing.”
Her usual routine left her exhausted, and outside of work, she rarely ventured out, preferring to rest.
Suggesting this outing had been partly to “fulfill her duties as a host” and make Jiang Zhi feel more welcome.
But whether it was the holiday atmosphere or simply Jiang Zhi’s presence, Su Yun found herself genuinely relaxed.
“Me too,” Jiang Zhi said, watching the students pass by. “I feel like I’ve almost forgotten what it was like to be a student.”
Dressed in their school uniforms, they were spirited and youthful, brimming with vitality.
Su Yun also noticed the students walking past. “I’ve almost forgotten too. But back in school, you must have been really popular, right?”
Jiang Zhi replied softly, “I wasn’t that well-liked when I was in school. My temper wasn’t great not as nice as you might think.”
She had been aloof back then, with clear goals and little interaction with her classmates, so she wasn’t exactly popular.
After sharing her own experience, Jiang Zhi turned to Su Yun and asked, “You must have had a lot of people confessing to you in school, right?”
“???”
Su Yun had no idea how the conversation had taken this turn.
“Well, there were some both guys and girls.” Su Yun recalled her school days. “But I never accepted any of them.”
At the last sentence, Jiang Zhi’s hand, resting at her side, twitched slightly.
“Why didn’t you accept them?” Jiang Zhi asked, now without the nervousness she had felt earlier.
Su Yun answered matter-of-factly, “At the time, I thought my classmates weren’t mature enough. My goal was to get into a good university, make a lot of money dating wasn’t even on my radar!”
Her upbringing had given her a clear sense of purpose, and she avoided anything that didn’t align with her goals.
Jiang Zhi teased, “So if you thought they weren’t mature enough, does that mean you prefer older sisters?”
She felt she fit that description quite well.
Su Yun narrowed her eyes at Jiang Zhi. “Hey, where did that even come from?!”
She didn’t believe for a second that Jiang Zhi had genuinely connected “maturity” with “older sister” she was clearly trying to lead her into a trap.
“Just joking,” Jiang Zhi said, ruffling her hair.
But inwardly, she thought about how lucky she was to have met Su Yun and to have been accepted by her.
Su Yun, caught off guard by the head pat, froze for a moment.
Her friends never did such affectionate gestures yet Jiang Zhi made it seem so natural.
–
Before the students had passed, a wedding procession had also gone by, stopping not far from them.
Jiang Zhi watched as over a dozen cars drove past. “What’s this?”
“A wedding!” Su Yun, always eager for excitement, pulled Jiang Zhi toward the scene. “There’s a tradition here during weddings, they give out wedding candies to onlookers for good luck. I wonder if we can still get some?”
By the time they arrived, the two brides were standing at the entrance, happily handing out candies.
Su Yun and Jiang Zhi managed to get the last two pieces.
“Congratulations! Happy wedding!” Su Yun said cheerfully to the brides.
Jiang Zhi held the candy in her palm and added, “Happy wedding, and thank you for the candies.”
“Thank you for your blessings!” The brides naturally assumed they were a couple. “Are you two married?”
Su Yun hesitated, unsure how to respond, leaving the awkward question to Jiang Zhi.
“We are,” Jiang Zhi answered smoothly.
“See? I told you they were a couple!” one bride said to the other. “The way they walked over, you could just tell!”
“I was just worried your guess might offend them,” the other bride replied with a laugh.
“…”
After chatting briefly, the two brides nodded farewell to Su Yun and Jiang Zhi. They would likely be very busy today.
Once the brides had disappeared from view, Su Yun turned to Jiang Zhi and asked, “Was our wedding this lively too?”
As she spoke, she popped the wedding candy the bride had given her into her mouth, it was incredibly sweet!
But the answer she received was completely unexpected.
Jiang Zhi: “We didn’t actually have a wedding ceremony back then.”
Su Yun, still chewing the candy, mumbled in confusion, “??? Not even after we confirmed our relationship?”
She could understand skipping the ceremony during their business-like arranged marriage, but why not after they’d fallen in love?
Jiang Zhi fell silent for a few seconds. “Before we could hold one, I ended up here.”
Su Yun: “…”
That possibility hadn’t even crossed her mind.
But as she looked at Jiang Zhi now, she imagined how stunning she would look in a wedding dress. “There’ll be a chance to go back someday.”
Jiang Zhi: “Actually, I have a feeling it might be soon tonight, in fact.”
She couldn’t explain where the premonition came from, but she could sense a countdown of sorts.
Hearing this, Su Yun froze for a moment before smiling. “That’s good too.”
She hadn’t expected it to happen so soon. “Around what time tonight?”
Jiang Zhi: “Probably the same time we met last night about twenty-four hours from then.”
Su Yun did a quick calculation. That meant only a few hours remained.
Half-joking, half-serious, she said, “I’m actually going to miss you a little.”
Jiang Zhi met Su Yun’s gaze. “I like you very much too.”
They weren’t talking about the same thing.
Yet it didn’t feel out of place at all.
–
Perhaps because of Jiang Zhi’s impending departure, they didn’t linger much longer before heading home.
Su Yun prepared dinner. “Even though you’ve said I’ve cooked this many times before, I don’t remember any of it. Consider this a farewell meal.”
Jiang Zhi tasted the familiar flavors again and didn’t hold back her praise. “It’s delicious.”
“Of course! I might as well be your cooking mentor by now!” Su Yun happily accepted the high praise.
As the time for Jiang Zhi’s departure drew near, the premonition and urgency in her heart grew stronger.
Looking at Su Yun, who was still awake, she said, “It should be soon.”
“Then make sure you treat me well over there!” Su Yun teased with a smile.
“I will,” Jiang Zhi nodded. “And we’ll have that wedding too.”
At the mention of a wedding, Su Yun grinned. “You know why I never doubted what you said about us loving each other?”
It was a question from the night before, but she only asked it now, as Jiang Zhi was about to leave.
Jiang Zhi looked at her intently. “Why?”
Jiang Zhi was patient, gentle, and open to all her questions.
After just one day together, Su Yun understood that falling for her was only a matter of time in any timeline.
She said, “Because loving you feels inevitable.”
