The Film Queen Is Cold and Ruthless, Only Sends Money - Chapter 52.1
Su Yun felt utterly dazed by Jiang Zhi’s words, her lips parting and closing as she struggled to find a response.
Finally, she met Jiang Zhi’s gaze, then closed her eyes and murmured, “Sleep, sleep!”
Jiang Zhi chuckled softly and replied, “Goodnight, sweet dreams.”
Her voice carried a soothing magic that eased all the restlessness and anxiety in Su Yun’s heart.
Though Su Yun had initially thought she wouldn’t be able to fall asleep anytime soon, she drifted off quickly.
Before all her thoughts faded, one lingered in her mind Jiang Zhi was exactly her type.
If they had met in another time and place, perhaps things really could have been as Jiang Zhi had said.
–
When Su Yun woke again, sunlight flooded the bedroom, bright and warm.
She stretched lazily and glanced around, feeling as though she had forgotten something, though she couldn’t quite recall what.
It wasn’t until she stepped out of the bedroom and saw the figure bustling in the kitchen, along with the breakfast laid out beside her that she realized what had felt off.
She had naturally assumed last night’s events were just a dream, a beautiful woman appearing in her room, claiming to be her wife.
Waking up alone had only reinforced that belief, but now reality was reminding her it hadn’t been a dream at all.
Jiang Zhi had woken early and was preparing breakfast.
Hearing Su Yun’s footsteps, she spoke casually, “Awake? Breakfast is ready, come eat.”
After all, Jiang Zhi had spent so much time with Su Yun before. She knew exactly what Su Yun liked for breakfast, and that probably wouldn’t change, even in another world.
Su Yun inhaled the tempting aroma and, with little resistance, took her seat at the table.
No matter what, she couldn’t just ignore a freshly prepared meal!
When she saw what Jiang Zhi had made, her heart gave a strange little flutter every dish was something she loved.
Jiang Zhi tidied up the kitchen before sitting down as well.
Noticing Su Yun’s gaze, she looked up and asked, “Something wrong?”
“Nothing. It’s all my favorite food,” Su Yun shook her head.
Jiang Zhi smiled. “Some of these, you even taught me how to make.”
Back when her schedule wasn’t as busy, she and Su Yun would often cook lunch and dinner together, and she had picked up quite a few recipes from her.
“Me?” Su Yun took a bite. No wonder the flavors felt so familiar.
After breakfast, Su Yun watched as Jiang Zhi moved to wash the dishes and quickly stopped her. “Let me.”
Since Jiang Zhi had cooked, the least she could do was handle the cleanup.
Standing side by side in the kitchen, Su Yun glanced at Jiang Zhi and asked, “Don’t you think my ability to adapt is a little, too strong?”
Just last night, Jiang Zhi had inexplicably appeared in her home, and now here they were, already discussing household chores.
“Pretty fast,” Jiang Zhi agreed, placing the freshly washed dishes back in their spots. “But that’s just how you are.”
Su Yun had always been quick to embrace new things and often came up with unconventional ideas herself.
Su Yun watched the water trickle from the faucet and grinned. “Saying that makes it sound like you know me really well.”
Jiang Zhi set the last plate in its place, then turned just as Su Yun straightened up.
She leaned in slightly, closing the distance between them.
Su Yun couldn’t help but take a step back, only to find herself with nowhere to retreat her back pressed against the kitchen counter.
She could clearly see her own reflection in Jiang Zhi’s light-colored eyes, and even the other’s voice seemed unusually soft.
Jiang Zhi said, “No need to wonder. I really do know you well.”
Su Yun held her breath, and without even thinking, the words spilled out: “But I don’t know you at all. Other than your name, I know nothing.”
She didn’t share Jiang Zhi’s memories and couldn’t tell what was real or not.
Right now, all she could do was blush furiously under Jiang Zhi’s teasing completely helpless.
Jiang Zhi hadn’t expected Su Yun to feel this way.
After a few seconds of silence, she said, “If you want, we can take our time getting to know each other.”
Last night, she had realized this wasn’t a dream, but she hadn’t thought much deeper than that.
Because the first person she saw here was Su Yun, she hadn’t panicked, only felt at ease.
But she’d forgotten that Su Yun didn’t share her memories. The fact that Su Yun could act so normally now, without treating her like some kind of monster, was already extraordinary for an ordinary person.
Jiang Zhi silently wondered if she should rein in her behavior a little from now on.
But the moment this thought surfaced, she felt a familiar presence draw near.
Su Yun, who had just been leaning against the counter, now took a step forward, standing right in front of Jiang Zhi.
Closer than before so close their noses almost touched.
Jiang Zhi’s breath hitched slightly, her mind going blank, making even the simplest thought feel laborious.
She didn’t know how long it lasted maybe only a few seconds before Su Yun pulled away.
Then, with a smile, she said, “So you’re not as unshakable as you seem, huh?”
So it wasn’t just her who was left flustered!
She could’ve sworn she’d heard Jiang Zhi’s heartbeat speed up just now.
Jiang Zhi: “…”
She should’ve known Su Yun never let herself be at a disadvantage.
Even if she was being teased, she’d find a way to tease back.
But Jiang Zhi didn’t argue. There was nothing wrong with Su Yun’s words.
When Su Yun got this close, she truly couldn’t remain calm or indifferent.
Her heart would always race for her.
–
After the meal, Su Yun took out a set of clothes and handed them to Jiang Zhi. “I think these should fit you?”
She’d noticed Jiang Zhi only had the pajamas from last night definitely not suitable for going outside.
Since they were about the same height and weight, there was no need to buy new clothes.
“Thank you, I…” Jiang Zhi took them, about to say she’d return them later.
But then she remembered her bank cards weren’t with her, and for once, she felt the awkwardness of being penniless.
Su Yun seemed to realize this too and waved it off with a smile. “Go change first. We’ll figure the rest out later.”
For a moment, she almost felt like she was the one pampering Jiang Zhi.
After changing, Jiang Zhi checked the time and asked, “Don’t you have work today?”
Truthfully, she didn’t know everything about this world’s Su Yun either.
“I worked overtime last night, so I get to rest today.” Su Yun sighed at the mention of work.
“Just as I was about to leave yesterday, my boss suddenly messaged, saying an urgent task had to be finished first, he needed the completed file by today.”
Her resentment was completely unconcealed as she spoke, every word dripping with accusations against her “boss.”
Of course, Su Yun had no intention of hiding her bitterness. The moment she saw the message yesterday, she had sincerely prayed for her boss to go bankrupt immediately!
Hearing this, Jiang Zhi frowned slightly.
When she was filming, she would sometimes stay up until the early hours or late at night to better align with the script.
But that was due to the unique nature of her work, unlike Su Yun’s situation. This “boss” was simply exploiting employees.
“Have you ever thought about changing jobs?” Jiang Zhi asked.
Feeling Jiang Zhi’s concern, Su Yun’s eyes curved into a smile. “Of course I have! But the pay is decent, so for now, I can still tolerate it.”
Who knew if another job would also demand overtime without offering the same salary?
Hearing this, Jiang Zhi fully understood why Su Yun considered winning the lottery a top priority.
Su Yun felt that mentioning her boss during a holiday was a mood killer.
She shifted the topic to Jiang Zhi, wanting to learn more about her. “What do you do over there?”
“An actress,” Jiang Zhi replied.
“An actress?” Su Yun recalled the novel’s plo, it was indeed set in the entertainment industry.
“Then no one bullies you, right?”
Su Yun happened to turn on the TV, where a drama she hadn’t seen before was playing.
The lines were cringe-worthy: “You’re cold, you’re heartless, you’re unreasonable.”
Jiang Zhi watched the exaggerated facial expressions on screen and realized announcing herself as an actress might not have been the wisest move.
But emphasizing now that her performances were different would only sound like protesting too much.
So she simply brushed past the topic. “No one bullies me.”
“That’s good, then I’m relieved!” Su Yun had already changed the channel, sparing herself the melodrama.
Jiang Zhi’s gaze lingered on Su Yun as she asked, “Why would you be relieved?”
“Should I just stand by and watch you get bullied?” Su Yun was puzzled. People like her boss were better off fewer in number.
“That’s not what I meant,” Jiang Zhi said softly, her eyes gentle.
She hadn’t expected Su Yun’s first question upon learning she was an actress to be about whether she was bullied.
No curiosity about anything else just concern for her as a person.
Even without her memories, Su Yun could still effortlessly make her heart flutter.
Jiang Zhi smiled. “It’s just that when others hear it, they usually ask different questions like whether I’ve met certain celebrities or if some gossip is true.”
Su Yun nodded in understanding. “Honestly, I’d like to ask those too, except I probably wouldn’t recognize the names.”
People from different worlds were likely different, and she wouldn’t know them anyway.
But Jiang Zhi’s words piqued her curiosity. “Though I think who it is doesn’t matter as much as what they did. Care to share?”
She really did want to hear some gossip.
Seeing the sparkle in Su Yun’s eyes, Jiang Zhi’s brows lifted slightly, and she didn’t refuse.
