The Ex-Wife-to-Be Is Acting Weird After Losing Her Memory - Chapter 30
Chapter 30: March One
“What do you mean, you want to fake an illness? That’s obviously impossible.”
Fu Ruyi raised her head from a pile of documents, looking confusedly at the person on the sofa.
With the start of filming for Dark Light imminent, the publicity team sent over the schedule for the launch ceremony. Lu Jiayin, full of worry, immediately rushed to the studio for help after receiving a call.
She wore a beautiful ginger-yellow V-neck cashmere sweater, an oversized style. The apricot silk skirt underneath flowed lightly, revealing a pair of long, pale, slender legs. Her legs rested on the edge of the sofa, swinging back and forth with a look of melancholy that drew the eye.
Although she looked preoccupied, her skin was smooth and radiant, appearing especially translucent under the sunlight. Fu Ruyi pursed her lips and continued: “Looking at how radiant you are, aren’t you and CEO Xiao Zhen getting along quite ‘harmoniously’? I suggested you keep the truth from her initially so you could reconcile. Now that things are already…”
“It’s not that simple, Sister Fu!” Lu Jiayin sat up from the sofa, looking at her anxiously. “We reconciled because she likes this me. If I go for a check-up, then… then wouldn’t the old me come back?”
How could the proud, indifferent Lu Jiayin, who didn’t mean what she said, ever gain Zhen Zhen’s affection?
“The situation now is that I must continue to hide the fact that I’ve recovered my memory from her,” she muttered, looking down at her phone. The chat page showed Zhen Zhen asking her what time she would be done, saying she wanted to take her out to eat at the seafood congee place she had been longing for.
Lu Jiayin truly couldn’t bear to lose this gentle and considerate Zhen Zhen. She wanted to allow herself to enjoy a little more warmth with her, but she frowned tightly: “I originally wanted to tell her not to come with me to the hospital, but she said that as my spouse, she shouldn’t always trouble you, Sister Fu…”
“CEO Zhen is truly thoughtful,” Fu Ruyi chuckled, continuing to sign documents. “I’m telling you, you’re just overthinking things. If you honestly tell her the truth, you’d still be you, wouldn’t you?”
But Lu Jiayin clearly didn’t think so and continued to sigh on the sofa. Just then, her assistant Ding Ding pushed the door open: “Sister Jiayin, I’ve heated up the bird’s nest for you.”
“You all have some!” Lu Jiayin waved her hand generously. “Zhen Zhen bought too much. She said it’s a quality that’s hard to find in the market. The cleaning lady prepared it all before sending it over. It’s especially good for women. Sister Fu, you should try some…”
Fu Ruyi took the small bowl handed to her by Ding Ding: “Thank you. Isn’t this great? You two have such a good relationship, even we get to eat top-quality bird’s nest.” She teased her with the last sentence.
The nicer Zhen Zhen is to me, the harder it is to imagine what she’ll be like when she finds out I’ve recovered my memory. Lu Jiayin pouted: “I have to go for a check-up tomorrow. I’m really worried about how to handle the doctor…”
As soon as she finished speaking, Ding Ding chimed in: “By the way, Sister, are you going for a check-up at Changning Hospital? I have a cousin who works there. I heard her mention that these kinds of exams usually require the patient to fill out some kind of questionnaire…”
Lu Jiayin’s eyes lit up: “Tell me more!”
Encouraged, the little assistant offered a suggestion: “Since it’s a questionnaire, isn’t it all subjective answers? I guess if you want the test results to indicate you’re not okay, you should deliberately answer a few questions wrong…”
“That makes sense!” Lu Jiayin patted her shoulder, praising her: “You truly are my assistant—so clever.”
Fu Ruyi looked at the two of them discussing seriously and couldn’t help but remind her: “The deception is only temporary. You still need to find a chance to tell CEO Zhen the truth as soon as possible.”
“I will,” Lu Jiayin stood up sheepishly. “I’ll wait for the right moment. I need to go now.”
Watching her step lightly out of the room, Fu Ruyi smiled and shook her head. Her phone suddenly rang. She glanced at the caller ID and answered with a serious expression: “CEO Zhen?”
Upon hearing what Zhen Zhen said next, the manager’s expression softened, and a smile appeared: “You are too thoughtful…”
The next day, Changning Private Hospital.
As soon as the car drove up to the building, the waiting reception manager greeted them with a beaming smile, personally opening the car door.
Zhen Zhen stepped out first, then extended a hand and naturally led Lu Jiayin out.
The manager’s eyes lit up upon seeing this. Compared to a little over a month ago, the relationship between the young couple seemed much closer. He recalled that Zhen Zhen had never actively accompanied her wife to the hospital before, which had surprised him when he received the reservation call.
But a good relationship was always a good thing. His smile became more enthusiastic: “We’ve already notified the attending physician. Ms. Lu, please go with the nurse to prepare.”
Lu Jiayin nodded. She still felt a bit anxious, but she tried her best to appear calm as she glanced at Zhen Zhen.
Zhen Zhen gave her an encouraging smile and walked with her toward the treatment room.
When they reached the ward entrance, the others temporarily stopped. The nurse led Lu Jiayin inside for the examination. The manager took the opportunity to invite Zhen Zhen to look at their newly introduced health instruments nearby.
“I’ll go get the CT scans for you. The doctor will be here shortly to administer the questionnaire. The questionnaire is very simple, so don’t be too nervous.” After the CT scan, the nurse led Lu Jiayin to the office for a short rest and then turned and left.
Once she was alone in the office, Lu Jiayin glanced at the stack of A4 papers on the desk in front of her, neatly arranged with a dozen questions. She guessed this was the “questionnaire” she was supposed to do soon.
Remembering her assistant’s suggestion, she looked around, quickly pulled out a blank questionnaire, and quickly scanned the questions: “It’s not that simple…” she mumbled softly. “Should I fill out a bit of it first?”
She was afraid that if she answered on the spot, she might get too nervous and expose herself. Since no one was back yet, she still had time to slowly invent some wrong answers.
With this thought, Lu Jiayin felt more resolute. She picked up the pen nearby and began carefully making up the answers.
She swiftly wrote down a large portion of the content. The door opened again, and the attending physician walked in with Zhen Zhen. Seeing her writing something with her head down, the doctor said “Oh?” and looked slightly surprised.
Afraid he might say more, Lu Jiayin quickly finished the second half, writing with incredible speed, and promptly handed it to him: “I was a bit bored waiting, so I just filled out the questionnaire first. Is that okay?”
She had taken the first half seriously, inventing some content, but she grew increasingly nervous in the latter half. Seeing a bunch of circles, logic problems, and fill-in-the-blanks, she simply filled in a few answers randomly, confident the result should be “not good.”
The doctor pushed up his glasses, first glanced at Zhen Zhen, then hesitantly took the questionnaire. After reviewing the first few questions, he looked up, his gaze solemn as he looked at Lu Jiayin.
“Ms. Lu, how long have you been experiencing these symptoms?”
Weren’t you the doctor who admitted me the day the symptoms appeared? Lu Jiayin was full of confusion but still answered obediently: “Just over a month ago, when I had a car accident and was brought here…”
She blinked, perplexed, but still tried hard to perform: “My external injuries have healed, but my memory is still…”
The doctor’s expression became even more serious: “But your situation is temporary memory loss. It shouldn’t lead to Alzheimer’s disease…”
He smoothed the questionnaire flat on the desk: “Why did you fill out this questionnaire? Did you notice any symptoms in yourself?”
“Wait a minute!” When Lu Jiayin heard the words “Alzheimer’s disease,” she realized the situation was not what she had imagined. She snatched the questionnaire back, asking uncertainly: “The ones on your desk, the ones I’m supposed to fill out—is it not this questionnaire?”
The doctor shook his head: “These are for the elderly residents from Fukang Nursing Home who are coming for a routine physical examination this afternoon.”
He looked at Lu Jiayin’s face, pausing for a few seconds before suddenly realizing: “You’re talking about the questionnaire? Maybe the nurse wasn’t clear just now. After the CT scan, I will administer an on-site questionnaire test to you, which means I will ask you a few questions verbally…”
Lu Jiayin’s mind went blank. Embarrassment flickered in her beautiful almond eyes. She frantically tried to find an explanation: “Hahaha, I just… I was a bit bored waiting, so I just filled it out for fun…”
As she spoke, she tried to quickly destroy the paper, but Zhen Zhen, who was standing beside her, suddenly walked over, gently held her wrist, and rescued the crumpled paper.
“She must have misunderstood. But I saw your expression just now. Is there something wrong with her answers?” Zhen Zhen picked up the A4 paper and asked seriously.
Lu Jiayin tugged at her arm in shame and indignation: “I told you I wrote it randomly! How could Alzheimer’s be related to me? Let’s just continue with the regular check-up!”
However, the doctor and Zhen Zhen clearly didn’t think so. After exchanging a look, the doctor said hesitantly: “Ms. Lu answered several questions incorrectly on this questionnaire…”
“Because I wrote it randomly!” Lu Jiayin defended herself, her fair cheeks flushed under the light. “Why don’t you ask me a few more questions? I guarantee I can answer them all correctly.”
If word got out that she took an Alzheimer’s test at the hospital and scored poorly… Lu Jiayin couldn’t imagine Fu Ruyi’s expression, or how she herself would handle such a trending topic.
She looked at the doctor with a determined expression, ready to “save face.” Then, she felt a warmth in her palm—Zhen Zhen had taken her hand.
“Why don’t you ask her a few more questions?” Zhen Zhen suggested calmly. “That way, I can also feel reassured.”
Lu Jiayin: Wife, you don’t need to apply your overly serious personality to this moment.
But the misunderstanding had already occurred, and quickly resolving it was the best approach. She nodded: “Doctor, go ahead and ask. I can definitely answer them.”
Although the doctor himself didn’t believe that the aftermath of the car accident could lead to this situation, based on his responsibility to the patient, he straightened his expression, asked them to sit down, and said unhurriedly: “Since Ms. Lu has already answered the questionnaire, I’ll just ask you a few other basic test questions.”
He thought for a moment and selected a relatively simple question from his database: “What was the last thing you ate last night?”
The moment Lu Jiayin heard the question, several strange images suddenly flashed through her mind. Immediately, her face grew hot, and she couldn’t utter a single word.
This cursed test question!
