The Ex-Wife of the Scumbag A Who Abandoned the Female Lead - Chapter 19
Ru Xi Cheng was a bit annoyed, but she couldn’t in good conscience say she was dissatisfied. So, she crossed her arms and prepared to head to the other side.
Shi Nuocen, however, grabbed her arm. “Hey, didn’t you promise to help me pick?”
Ru Xi Cheng simply decided to lie through her teeth. “I forgot your measurements.”
“How could you? You already know my underwear size, and as for my bust.” Shi Nuocen paused here, her beautiful eyes shifting meaningfully as she added suggestively, “Didn’t you get a firsthand feel for it on the way here?”
Firsthand feel!
She was clearly referring to the “burying her face in her chest” incident!
As soon as Ru Xi Cheng realized this, her face instantly flushed bright red! This time, no amount of pulling would stop her. She stomped away in a mix of embarrassment and irritation.
Shi Nuocen sighed inwardly, seeing no other option but to make the decisions herself. She picked out ten pairs of underwear and ten bras in a variety of styles, ranging from sexy and wild to pure and sweet.
The most crucial point was that while the underwear sizes were manageable, the bras were clearly not all the same size!
Ru Xi Cheng couldn’t hold back her suspicions any longer. Just before swiping the card to pay, she pressed down on the other’s hand, her voice both urgent and trembling. “Shi Nuocen, tell me the truth! Do you have someone else?”
Ru Xi Cheng secretly thought that if Shi Nuocen already had a lover and was using her money to buy lingerie for that person, she might as well drag them both down together.
Upon hearing this, Shi Nuocen directly picked out the pure and sweet pieces and shoved them into Ru Xi Cheng’s hands. “What are you talking about? These are for you. Is it wrong for me to want to see you wear them? If you don’t want them, give them back!”
With that, she made a move to snatch them back, but her ex-wife clutched them tightly, her expression shifting uncertainly. After a long pause, she muttered in a muffled voice, “How did you know my size?”
Shi Nuocen laughed in surprise, leaning in to whisper in her ear, “Well, I’ve held you and hugged you, after all.”
And she’d seen it with her own eyes, too! Although her ex-wife usually preferred elegant, reserved styles, Shi Nuocen thought it wouldn’t hurt to try something new once in a while.
Ru Xi Cheng paid for the items, and as they finally stepped out of the store, she pulled the brim of her sun hat down low, completely hiding her delicate face.
Only Shi Nuocen knew that beneath that hat, her ex-wife’s naturally charming face was undoubtedly flushed crimson.
In a way, it was for the best. Otherwise, if they had spent hundreds of thousands on lingerie and her ex-wife wasn’t feeling shy at the moment, Shi Nuocen would probably have gotten an earful.
As Shi Nuocen headed toward the next high-end women’s clothing store, she suddenly heard her ex-wife beside her say:
“One week from now, the second season of Heartbeat starts filming. Be prepared to join me on the show.”
At the mention of the show’s name, Shi Nuocen exclaimed in surprise, “Isn’t that the No. 1 most popular variety show in the country for the past six months?”
“Mm, it’s a dating show.” Ru Xi Cheng glanced at her, only to find her elbow being nudged the next second. A curious voice sounded by her ear.
“I heard Heartbeat claims to have no script, no editing, and that the director has a huge reputation. They don’t accept bribes or coercion from any guest. Is that true or not?”
Ru Xi Cheng nodded. “Indeed, the director comes from one of the top-tier wealthy families, so he has that kind of confidence.” She then went on to explain why Shi Nuocen was invited to participate in the variety show. “Actually, the production team had been keeping an eye on that game you played earlier. Since you were the only player who cleared it, and the livestream’s popularity skyrocketed because of you, they were already considering inviting you to join.”
Shi Nuocen understood now. “So, this director is the type who has to make a successful variety show, or else he’ll have to go back and inherit the family fortune, right? If that’s the case, then no matter how big a celebrity is, joining the show comes with risks. For example, if their public image collapses, there’s no way to cover it up.”
“Exactly.” Ru Xi Cheng smiled and gestured with her chin toward the front. “You go into the shop first. I’ll head to the restroom.”
Shi Nuocen looked up and realized it was a store she frequented. If her ex-wife hadn’t pointed it out, she might not have noticed. Once inside, she found the two shop assistants on duty that day quite familiar.
The male shop assistant’s eyes lit up the moment he saw her, thinking gleefully to himself, Second Miss Shi is here! This month’s sales target is as good as met!
After this thought, he shot a wary glance at his female colleague, afraid she might beat him to it, and quickly hurried over to greet Shi Nuocen.
He was known for his smooth talk and quick wits, consistently the store’s top salesperson. Sometimes, in his pursuit of sales, he even snatched deals from his colleagues. This behavior was naturally frowned upon, but since the customers he served were either wealthy or influential, the store manager could only issue verbal warnings without imposing any real penalties.
Over time, he grew bolder, flattering and catering to affluent customers with even greater enthusiasm. Among all his clients, Second Miss Shi left the deepest impression on him.
Not only was she incredibly generous. His annual commission was at least 50% from her purchases, amounting to hundreds of thousands. But she also had a strong personality and preferred to try on clothes herself, requiring minimal assistance.
“Second Miss Shi, we’ve just received a batch of VIP-exclusive new arrivals. I guarantee that each style is one-of-a-kind in the entire region. You won’t have to worry about anyone else wearing the same outfit,” the male shop assistant said with a beaming smile as he guided Shi Nuocen to the glass display case.
Hearing this, Shi Nuocen casually swept her hair back from her neck and replied dismissively, “Do I look like someone who’s afraid of matching outfits with others?”
The shop assistant quickly shook his head. “Of course not! With your looks, even if you did match outfits with someone, you’d still come out on top.”
It was an indirect compliment on her stunning beauty, and Shi Nuocen caught the meaning. She was pleased. After all, who doesn’t enjoy a bit of flattery? Her gaze shifted to the clothes in the glass display case.
A black and gold Baroque-style strapless gown immediately caught her eye. Baroque fashion emphasizes movement, opulence, and passion, and this dress embodied those distinctive traits perfectly. The black satin skirt cascaded like layers of rose petals, with diamond-shaped gemstone patterns embroidered along the hem, accented by tiny golden pearls.
The design at the chest area cascaded like ocean waves, adorned with a golden bead chain that shimmered like a dazzling mist of gold. Paired with this gown were a pair of black-and-gold stiletto heels, a rose-shaped parasol, and exquisitely patterned neck and hair accessories.
Shi Nuocen was instantly captivated by this set. The male shop assistant, noticing her expression, immediately understood her interest. At the same time, his eyes subtly shifted. According to the brand’s policy, purchasing the gown and heels would include the other three items for free. Effectively a 10% discount when calculated by price.
Yet, he lowered his voice and said, “Miss Shi, this is a complete set. Five pieces in total, including the gown. It can’t be sold separately. If you decide to buy it, I can offer you a 2% discount. But please don’t mention this to anyone, it’s my own initiative.” He discreetly glanced at the female shop assistant to ensure she wasn’t paying attention before adding, “Trust me, you won’t regret it.”
Shi Nuocen nodded. “Alright, let me try it on first. If it fits well.” Before she could finish, the male shop assistant, overjoyed, immediately pulled a key from his pocket to unlock the display case and retrieve the Baroque-style gown. Just then, another woman strode gracefully into the store, carrying a bag worth half a million and draped in luxury brands.
The woman called out, “Wait a moment.” Then, with an air of superiority, she removed her dark sunglasses and looked down at Shi Nuocen with a condescending smile. “Well, well, who do we have here? Weren’t you just kicked out of the Shi family not long ago? Still pretending to be a wealthy heiress?”
She then turned to the bewildered male shop assistant and beckoned. “Hand it over to me. Letting her wear such an expensive gown is not only a waste but also degrades its value. She’s the type to try things on without ever buying.”
