The Ex-Wife of the Scumbag A Who Abandoned the Female Lead - Chapter 20
Shi Nuocen looked at her with a half-smile but did not voice any rebuttal.
The male shop assistant, who considered himself quite familiar with her, felt a chill in his heart: With this attitude, the Second Miss Shi was tacitly admitting it, wasn’t she?
The male shop assistant also recognized the newly arrived woman. She was the young lady of the Chi family, who had never gotten along with Second Miss Shi. He had heard from others that even during their school days, she had always been at odds with Second Miss Shi, constantly trying to compete with her. Yet, whether it was family background, academic performance, looks, or style, she had lost miserably every time. Later, just before their differentiation, they even compared their secondary gender traits. The result: Second Miss Shi, a top-tier Alpha; Miss Chi, a mid-tier Beta.
In terms of family background, Second Miss Shi was undoubtedly a true heiress from an elite family, while Miss Chi was nothing more than an upstart.
But if what Miss Chi said was true, that Second Miss Shi had been driven out of the Shi family.
The male shop assistant’s hand involuntarily reached toward Miss Chi but abruptly stopped. He thought it would be better to probe a bit further and asked with an awkward smile, “Miss Chi, aren’t you exaggerating a bit? Second Miss Shi is, after all, a member of the Shi family. Even if there’s a minor conflict, blood is thicker than water, right?” How could she possibly be cast out of the family just like that.
Miss Chi, however, sneered repeatedly and lifted her chin defiantly. “This time, it’s no minor conflict. If you don’t believe me, check the Shi Corporation’s official website. Any mention of Shi Nuocen in the list of executives has been removed. And from what I know, the Shi family has completely barred Shi Nuocen from entering their home. Isn’t that clearly being cast out? Besides, just take a look at the former heiress’s attire now. Doesn’t that tell you something?”
The male shop assistant glanced sideways at Second Miss Shi’s clothing and thought to himself: It’s true! The overall price range of her outfit had dropped by two digits compared to before. If Miss Chi hadn’t pointed it out, he might not have noticed at first.
Miss Chi lazily stretched her arms and waved at him, saying, “So, don’t bother with her anymore. Hurry up and bring me the clothes in your hand.”
Hearing this, the male shop assistant instinctively forced an ingratiating smile and no longer hesitated with his movements. But suddenly, a voice rang out beside his ear.
“Wait!” Shi Nuocen leisurely crossed her arms, lifted her eyelids slightly, and said with a defiant expression, “Chi, do you know what ‘first come, first served’ means?”
Miss Chi laughed. “What ‘first come, first served’? All I know is that the highest bidder wins. I can afford it, and you can’t!”
Shi Nuocen raised her eyes, her gaze light but piercing. “You can indeed afford it, but buying this dress set would drain at least three months of your savings. Would you really be willing to part with that?”
Miss Chi’s expression stiffened, but she quickly straightened her neck and retorted, “That’s none of your concern.”
Then she turned her head and barked at the male shop assistant with false bravado, “Can you hurry up? If you keep dawdling, I’ll report you!”
She even grew impatient with his slowness and tried to snatch the clothes directly.
The male shop assistant shuddered at her words but became even more convinced that Second Miss Shi was right. This Miss Chi was probably just trying things on without any intention to buy. But there was always a chance. What if she did buy it?
His moment of hesitation nearly cost him the dress, as Miss Chi was about to snatch it from his hands. Unexpectedly, another hand moved even faster. A fluid, elegant motion and the Baroque-style gown instantly landed in her grasp.
“Shi Nuocen! What do you think you’re doing?” Miss Chi’s eyes blazed with fury, her anger verging on madness!
Yet Shi Nuocen’s gaze smoldered with a hidden fire as she retorted defiantly, “Since I’ve set my eyes on it, you have no right to take it. If you insist on fighting over it, then.”
Riiip! accompanied by the sharp, clear sound of tearing fabric!
She had actually torn it apart with her own hands!
Miss Chi was stunned, never imagining Shi Nuocen would go this far!
The male shop assistant was equally shocked, never expecting the second daughter of the Shi family to be so fierce preferring to destroy the dress rather than let anyone else have it!
Ru Xi Cheng, who had just entered the shop, was momentarily taken aback by Shi Nuocen’s actions. But after observing the other’s stance and angle, a trace of unspoken suspicion flickered in her expression.
She approached and whispered softly, “You’re really something else.”
“You should be praising my fierceness,” Shi Nuocen replied playfully, winking at her ex-wife from a position where no one else could see.
Behind her sunglasses, Ru Xi Cheng’s eyes widened slightly in surprise before settling into a knowing, almost teasing smile.
Miss Chi’s mind was still reeling from the shock, replaying that jarring scene over and over.
It wasn’t until she noticed Shi Nuocen and the newly arrived, face-concealed woman exchanging what seemed like intimate words that she finally snapped back to reality.
Though the newcomer’s face was obscured, her every movement exuded a star-like aura. Coupled with the fact that Shi Nuocen had been nominally involved with several fashion and entertainment companies before being cast out of the Shi family, Miss Chi quickly pieced things together and eyed the woman with disdain.
Adopting a tone of misguided concern, she said to Ru Xi Cheng, “Miss, you must be some minor celebrity Shi Nuocen is keeping, right? Don’t be fooled by her. Shi Nuocen is no longer a wealthy heiress. All the promises she’s made you, she can’t possibly deliver. If you stay by her side, you’ll only end up tarnished. For instance, right now, she’s torn a dress worth nearly a million, and she can’t even afford to pay for it!”
Shi Nuocen found this utterly hilarious. Leaning on her ex-wife’s shoulder, she laughed so hard she could barely stand, whispering teasingly, “Hey, hey, Miss Chi says you’re the little star I’m keeping.”
“And isn’t that true?” Before Ru Xi Cheng could respond, Miss Chi widened her eyes, wearing an expression that screamed, “Don’t even try to fool me!”
In the next moment, Shi Nuocen feigned fragility, burying herself in her ex-wife’s embrace. Tilting her head with a provocative gaze, she mockingly whined, “Why don’t you say that after being kicked out of my family, with nowhere to turn, I willingly threw myself at her instead?”
Miss Chi was momentarily stumped, that did make sense. But after a moment’s thought, she realized she’d been tricked and exclaimed, “Impossible! With your temperament, Shi Nuocen, you’d never stoop to something so spineless!”
Shi Nuocen laughed again, silently acknowledging that sometimes your enemies truly do know you best.
Feeling she could no longer afford to be led astray, Miss Chi quickly steered the conversation back on track: “Enough of this nonsense! You tore the dress. If you don’t pay up, I’ll make sure you regret it!”
Shi Nuocen, however, smiled as she pulled Ru Xi Cheng in front of her, wrapping her arms around her from behind. Her gaze fixed directly on Miss Chi as she said leisurely, “Today, I’ll teach you that even without the Shi family, I still have someone to rely on. I am not someone you can easily provoke!”
Miss Chi burst into laughter, pointing at Ru Xi Cheng. “You rely on her? Hahaha, that’s truly hilarious!”
She was convinced that Shi Nuocen was merely putting on a show.
“Darling, I’m being looked down upon. You have to stand up for me,” Shi Nuocen cooed deliberately, nuzzling her ex-wife’s neck.
Ru Xi Cheng suppressed the heat rising to her face, took a slight breath, and stepped forward.
