Chapter 6: Overturning the Moonlight
She wanted to dissolve the contractual marriage so that she could focus wholeheartedly on starting a pure sexual relationship.
The hotel lights were too bright.
Jiang Yu turned over, propped herself up on her elbows on the bed, and picked up her phone, navigating to the chat interface with Rong Wei.
[Hello, are you busy right now? There’s something I wanted to discuss with you.]
On the other side, Rong Wei was likely free and replied immediately.
[Go ahead.]
[You remember I told you before that we both have the right to terminate the agreement at any time. Now, I may be facing some changes on my end. I wanted to discuss the matter of an early divorce with you.]
The response was very direct: [What kind of change?]
Jiang Yu: [I met someone I feel quite good about and might want to try being with her. I felt I needed to inform you about this situation in advance. If things go smoothly, we can find time to discuss the divorce soon.]
The night was quiet, and the phone screen on the other end suddenly went silent.
Jiang Yu burrowed under the covers.
Five minutes later, Rong Wei replied. This time, her message wasn’t as concise.
[Understood. I’ll wait for your news.]
The next day, Jiang Yu woke up promptly at 8 AM.
The dress and sportswear she had asked the front desk to purchase had been delivered, along with some accessories she liked.
Jiang Yu went downstairs for a simple breakfast, then returned to her room to prepare herself.
She chose a long red dress. To avoid being too dramatic, she didn’t wear complex accessories but spent some effort on her hairstyle. Her dark hair was half-up in a bun, with tassel-textured accessories sparkling subtly.
Feeling satisfied with her appearance, she drove to the climbing gym.
There was still an hour before the agreed time. Jiang Yu didn’t rush when she arrived at the parking lot, staying in the car to check her makeup in the mirror.
A blue Bugatti Chiron drove into the parking lot and parked right next to her car. The light blue body shone like flowing gold under the sun. The car window tint was dark, making it impossible to see who was inside.
Jiang Yu didn’t look closely, grabbing her heels from the passenger seat and stepping out of the car.
As she bent down to put on her shoes, she heard the sound of a car door closing.
A very faint scent of agarwood, somewhat familiar.
Jiang Yu stood up and looked up.
What greeted her was a striking white jumpsuit. It had no flashy patterns, exceptionally simple and elegant. The accessories on her ears were square-cut blue crystals with faint golden edges, making her look graceful and dignified.
It was a very unique temperament. Her beautiful face and the lines of her shoulders and neck were even more distinct.
Separated by one car, Jiang Yu smiled and greeted Rong Wei: “What a coincidence, we meet here.”
Jiang Yu withdrew her gaze, circled around the car, and walked toward Rong Wei.
Bright red always stood out in a crowd. Her dress clearly looked high-quality, without any wrinkles despite the travel. The exposed skin was nearly transparently fair. A light breeze stirred the strands of hair at her temples, making her look free-spirited and graceful, absolutely not vulgar.
Jiang Yu and Rong Wei’s eyes met almost directly.
Rong Wei closed her car door and replied: “It is quite a coincidence.”
“Have you eaten yet?”
“I had a little something after nine, so I’m not very hungry right now.”
Jiang Yu answered truthfully.
Rong Wei gave a soft “Mm-hmm.” As they walked toward the venue, she joked: “Very strong professional dedication.”
The two changed clothes and headed to Area C together.
Time flew by while climbing together. After over two hours, in the resting area, Rong Wei spoke: “Your athletic talent is good, but your finger strength is a bit lacking.”
“If you plan to continue climbing, you can do more finger pull-ups regularly.”
Jiang Yu nodded, taking a sip of water: “Understood, thank you.”
“Are you rested? Shall we try that together?” Rong Wei asked, watching Jiang Yu put down her water cup.
Jiang Yu nodded and politely replied, Sīn kǔ le (Thank you for your hard work).
They went to a non-slanted wall covered with various shapes and colors of fingerboards.
Rong Wei ultimately chose a dark brown fingerboard. It was narrow, with holes measuring only about eight millimeters, barely big enough to fit the first knuckle of a finger. It demanded extreme arm and finger strength.
Rong Wei chalked her hands, raised her arm, and lightly placed her fingers into the small holes. Her arm muscles tightened, displaying smooth lines. The veins on the back of her hand reappeared, crisscrossing with her protruding knuckles. Throughout the process, she didn’t waver at all; her finger joints were as stable as ever.
Not only that, but after demonstrating a set of pull-ups, she let go with one hand, leaving only her flexible index and middle fingers gripping the holes. The two fingers held steady. The lines of her arm tensed even further, like a ferocious beast that had long been waiting to strike.
“That’s roughly how it goes.”
“Want to try?”
Jiang Yu suddenly found her throat dry. After a moment, she walked up to the fingerboard.
She placed her fingers where Rong Wei’s had just been. Not much time had passed, and the holes still retained a warm sensation—Rong Wei’s body temperature. It felt warm, powerful, and she could sense the pulsing nerves.
Jiang Yu tensed her fingers, trying to squeeze a couple of times, and then began the exercise. Although she had maintained a rigorous fitness routine over the years, she rarely trained finger strength. Relying on her trained discipline, she managed five pull-ups before a tingling, aching feeling ran through her finger joints.
“Try using your thumb to press against the bottom edge of the board.”
As she spoke, the phone in Rong Wei’s pocket rang.
She excused herself to Jiang Yu: “I’ll take this call over there.”
Rong Wei didn’t walk far, just to an area near Jiang Yu, and answered the call.
After finishing the call with Rong Qing, Rong Wei’s eyes returned to Jiang Yu.
Adult desires are often obvious, and moreover, Jiang Yu had always been a direct person. This feeling was actually subtle, hard to define immediately, but overall, it wasn’t bad.
Rong Wei curved her lips into a smile, turned off her phone, and walked back.
“A little tired?”
Jiang Yu’s hands were indeed out of strength. She softly replied, “Yes, my hands are weak.”
Rong Wei stood beside her and slowly said: “Rest first. Even with a fitness base, this intensity carries a risk of injury.”
“Okay.”
“It’s getting late. Shall we grab a meal together?”
“My treat, if that’s alright?”
Rong Wei didn’t speak but gathered her belongings, and the two walked to the restaurant together.
This time, they sat at the same spot where Rong Wei and her sister had sat yesterday. The food was the same as yesterday—salad and steak. While waiting for the food, Jiang Yu took the opportunity to chat with Rong Wei.
“Your Chinese sounds very standard. Do you not live here often?”
Rong Wei looked at Jiang Yu and chuckled: “Not really. I spend the majority of the year in China and only come here for a few months for business trips occasionally.”
“Me too. I often fly between China and abroad. A dozen hours of flying really gets tiring.”
Hearing this, Rong Wei gave Jiang Yu a meaningful look and then agreed: “Indeed, flying back and forth can be exhausting if the time is tight.”
Jiang Yu didn’t sense anything amiss in the remark and continued: “Your accent sounds a little familiar. Are you from Lin City?”
Rong Wei: “I suppose so.”
Jiang Yu smiled: “Then we could consider ourselves fellow townsfolk.”
“Since we have this much fate, why don’t we exchange contact info so we can find opportunities to hang out in the future?” Jiang Yu asked at the right moment.
“Sure, I’ll scan you.”
The woman’s WeChat profile picture was very simple: a blue butterfly specimen. It wasn’t frightening but rather mysterious and elegant.
“Do you collect specimens?” Jiang Yu asked casually.
“It’s a hobby.”
The atmosphere during the meal couldn’t have been better. Although the woman didn’t speak much, her conversation was elegant. She answered every question seriously and carefully and introduced topics appropriately, subtly bridging the distance between them.
Jiang Yu knew that the woman undoubtedly came from a wealthy and powerful family; otherwise, she wouldn’t have cultivated such a distinguished temperament.
Suddenly, some words felt difficult to utter.
She was too perfect, like the gentle, dignified, and composed moonlight. This perfection gave Jiang Yu a sudden, shameful urge to overturn the moonlight.
But this hesitation lasted only a moment.
Her brief, suggestive pause was noticed by the woman.
“Do you have something you want to say to me?”
After a full day of interaction, judging by appearances, the woman didn’t dislike her.
Jiang Yu pursed her lips, looking into Rong Wei’s eyes: “I do have something I want to say.”
“Do you mind if I ask you a personal question?”
The framing of the question was clever. Rong Wei chuckled softly.
With the blatant intention now on the table, Rong Wei simply pretended not to understand: “I don’t mind. Go ahead.”
“Do you have a girlfriend?”
The beginning of any emotional relationship requires someone to make the first move. But Jiang Yu wasn’t reckless; she needed to ensure the woman didn’t dislike her or feel bothered by her presence. The question she had been preparing for a long time could finally be asked.
Hearing her question, Rong Wei was silent for an instant.
Her demeanor was impeccable. She didn’t have any unnecessary movements when speaking. Her gaze was calm and composed, usually meeting the other person’s eyes directly, making them feel seen and respected.
Jiang Yu noticed that, at this very moment, she was fully reflected in Rong Wei’s icy blue pupils. It was a peculiar feeling, like being caught in a blue vortex.
The restaurant seemed to fall silent. Even the red streamers on the brown balcony outside the window stopped fluttering.
Rong Wei spoke with a faint smile: “No, I don’t.”
An expected answer. Jiang Yu smiled, ready to continue speaking, but then, she heard Rong Wei add:
“However, I am married.”
