Chapter 7: She’s not some scumbag who likes married women.
When Rong Wei returned, Rong Shi was just watching television in the living room.
Seeing her come back, Rong Shi spoke: “Why did you stay at the climbing gym for so long today?”
“Work wasn’t busy, I made an appointment with someone.”
Rong Shi thought for a moment: “Isn’t Nan Nan Jie still in the country? Who else could you make an appointment with?”
Rong Wei looked at Rong Shi, smiled, and said: “Jiang Yu.”
“Huh?” Rong Shi gasped in extreme surprise.
No matter how hard she tried to imagine, she never expected Rong Wei to spend the entire day with Jiang Yu.
This was simply too unbelievable. Rong Shi looked at Rong Wei and seriously asked: “What is your relationship? Why did you suddenly meet up?”
Rong Wei handed her sports bag to the housekeeper, carefully considered her words, and stated strictly: “She is currently my wife.”
Rong Shi had considered many possibilities.
She thought Rong Wei might say they were compatible, or that they were friends, but she never imagined Rong Wei would say Jiang Yu was her wife.
“Ah?”
Rong Shi let out a sharp cry of shock. She put on her slippers and stood in front of Rong Wei: “Sis, are you sure you’re not joking with me?”
Such a fuss.
Rong Wei subtly moved back two steps, suddenly recalling the divorce agreement Jiang Yu mentioned yesterday, and repeated: “I said, Jiang Yu and I are married, legal wives.”
Rong Shi’s brain completely crashed, her expression exceptionally colorful.
Rong Wei explained: “That year, I married her while waiting for you at the entrance of the Civil Affairs Bureau.”
“I mentioned it to Mom and the others before, but they didn’t believe me. You never asked me, so I didn’t say anything.”
“Oh my god,” Rong Shi exclaimed as if waking from a dream after a long time.
“But it makes no difference. Whether it’s me or you, she doesn’t recognize either of us.”
Rong Shi took a long time to digest Rong Wei’s bombshell information, and after a while, she said: “If it’s Jiang Yu Jie… not recognizing people is normal.”
“But this time, she definitely recognizes you.”
Rong Wei let out a slight laugh, and replied: “Not necessarily.”
Rong Shi widened her eyes, urging Rong Wei to say more, but at that moment, Rong Wei remained silent.
She sat on the sofa, recalling the scene from dinner with Jiang Yu the previous evening.
The moment she said she was married, the restaurant fell eerily quiet.
A momentary look of shock flashed across Jiang Yu’s bright and beautiful face, and all her aggression instantly vanished.
That apology carried a subtle awkwardness; she seemed restless and uneasy, leaving the restaurant before Rong Wei could finish speaking.
In such moments, she remained decisive, but that polite restraint and timidity were somewhat unusual.
Rong Shi still looked at her in confusion, but Rong Wei only returned a look without elaborating.
Rong Shi felt her sister’s smile was somewhat meaningful. Just as she was about to ask, Rong Wei spoke: “It’s getting late, go rest.”
“I’m going to see Grandpa and Grandma.”
The two sisters separated. After greeting her grandparents, Rong Wei returned to her bedroom.
Rong Wei casually picked up a stack of documents from her desk, opened the balcony door, and sat on the rattan chair, glancing through them intermittently.
The summer evening breeze in Li City was very warm. Her grandparents’ estate cultivated its own rice and vegetables. When the breeze swept past her ears, there was a reassuring feeling of rice grain she couldn’t experience in the city.
…
Jiang Yu didn’t like driving alone at night, so tonight, she stayed at a hotel near the climbing gym again.
Lying on the hotel bed, the location and scene were the same, but the feeling was somewhat unfamiliar.
It couldn’t be more embarrassing.
It’s not embarrassing for an adult to confront their own desires; wanting to hold hands, kiss, and make love with someone is only human nature.
But now, reality was right in front of her. If she were to try to establish an intimate relationship with someone else’s wife, that would be truly absurd.
After all, she’s not some scumbag who likes married women.
Jiang Yu half-covered her eyes with her arm, tutted, and suddenly felt a bit comical.
It seemed heaven didn’t intend for her to have a relaxed emotional relationship.
The contract marriage with Rong Wei could also temporarily remain status quo.
Work, for her, might be better.
Although there was some regret, it wasn’t particularly painful. Jiang Yu sighed softly, finally picking up her phone to check on the recent development of some models in her company.
By the time she was ready to sleep that night, Jiang Yu thought she had mostly forgotten about the matter.
Unfortunately, her subconscious was more stubborn than she imagined. The regret and restraint turned into a flood of monsters in her dreams.
That night, she entered into an absurd dream and had a sexual fantasy.
The protagonist of this dream was the mixed-race beauty she met at the climbing gym.
She genuinely felt the flexible fingers and everything else that could make one sink into pleasure.
Because of this dream, Jiang Yu didn’t sleep soundly that night. She only completely fell asleep around five or six in the morning and woke up again around noon.
She raised her hand, sighed softly, and slapped herself lightly.
…
Rock climbing was indeed quite interesting. Regardless of how her personal feelings progressed, Jiang Yu had genuinely fallen in love with climbing.
Jiang Yu looked it up online and found that the gym she had been to these past few days was the best environment and largest facility in Li City. When she returned, she might not have such a good climbing environment again.
So, just before leaving, she went to the gym one last time.
Today was a weekday, and there were significantly fewer people in the gym. Jiang Yu was inexplicably relieved. After finishing all her exercises, Jiang Yu was preparing to leave when the gym manager approached her.
The manager was holding a delicate bag.
“Ma’am, hello. While tidying up yesterday, we found a lost item in your friend’s locker. It looks quite valuable.”
“We don’t have her private contact information. Seeing that you two seem quite close, would it be too much trouble for you to take this item to her?”
Jiang Yu was a little surprised.
Because of her height, she could just see the item placed inside.
It was a pair of very dazzling sapphire earrings.
Jiang Yu couldn’t possibly forget that those were the earrings the woman was wearing yesterday.
Millions or tens of millions are probably nothing to people like them. She might not even realize the earrings are missing and wouldn’t possibly come back to the gym to look for them.
Last night’s dream abruptly drilled into her mind, making her feel intoxicated.
But reality is not a dream. She needed to maintain boundaries with her, and not make any inappropriate moves.
However…
Jiang Yu inevitably felt a little self-reproach.
She was the one who initiated the meeting. She bore some responsibility for causing her such a loss.
She wasn’t the kind of person who was extremely selfish and only spoke high-sounding, beautiful words.
Facing the gym owner with a polite and proper smile, she finally said: “I can try to help contact her, but I can’t guarantee the outcome.”
The owner smiled and nodded.
Jiang Yu walked a couple of steps, found an empty spot, and took out her phone.
A reply via WeChat might not come quickly. Calling was a little presumptuous and awkward, but it was the quickest way to solve the problem.
Jiang Yu pursed her lips and dialed the number.
The phone rang twice on the other side, but the person didn’t speak.
Jiang Yu immediately said: “I apologize for the intrusion, but there is something I need to discuss with you.”
“The climbing gym sent a message saying your earrings were lost in the locker.”
“How do you plan to handle it? Is it convenient for you to come to the gym to pick them up yourself?” Jiang Yu immediately proposed a solution, without any hesitation.
In short, it would be best not to meet, and best to have less contact. If the matter could be resolved without an actual encounter, it would save unnecessary trouble.
On the other side of the phone, however, a slight sigh was heard: “I’m very sorry.”
Jiang Yu was a little bewildered by the sudden apology.
Immediately afterward, the woman continued: “I left the earrings there on purpose.”
