The Delicate Beauty Grabbed the Cannon Fodder Villain’s Script [Quick Transmigration] - Chapter 49
If he could, Jian Tao truly wanted to give Zhou Jin a beating. Since that idea was impossible to realize in the short term, he opened his mouth and finally blurted out two words: “Zhou Jin.”
The two men simultaneously froze for a moment. Zhou Jin was incredibly excited, while Gu Huaian looked on with surprise and suspicion. He turned to Zhou Jin and asked, “How does he know what you are called?”
Originally, Jian Tao had felt suffocated by the restriction of only being able to speak two words per minute. Now, his heart skipped a beat in fear. However, Zhou Jin immediately put an arm around his shoulders with a look of immense pride. He bragged to Gu Huaian, “Because I told him.”
Jian Tao’s heart finally settled back into his chest, and he felt a wave of relief. At that moment, Zhou Jin faced him and asked with a smile, “Jiao Jiao, why did you call my name?”
Jian Tao blurted out, “Go away.”
Zhou Jin was stunned. Gu Huaian burst into a sudden laugh. It was the first time he had been genuinely amused in this place. Realizing what had been said, Zhou Jin’s eyes widened in disbelief. “What did you say, Jiao Jiao?”
Jian Tao remained silent. He waited for a full minute to pass and then repeated, “Go away.”
Zhou Jin was speechless. He felt as though his heart had been wounded.
Jian Tao had originally expected to spend another night in Zhou Jin’s room. While he was right about the location, he never expected Gu Huaian to stay with them. Furthermore, neither of them went out to explore. They simply stayed in the room watching him and staring at each other. The absurdity of the situation was not lost on Jian Tao.
When the time came, Jian Tao woke up in his own room. He glanced to the side and found the room empty as expected. Zhou Jin and Gu Huaian could not outlast him; they had both fallen asleep during the latter half of the night. Since the door had been locked, Jian Tao had been unable to leave and simply waited for the time to return to his body.
By now, it seemed those two had not yet awakened. Jian Tao got out of bed and went to the bathroom to wash up. He found that he was becoming used to the transitions and had even discovered a pattern. The events the rubber man experienced at night determined his physical state the next day. Because he had spent the previous night essentially sitting still, his energy felt replenished, as if he had actually slept through the night.
After tidying himself up, Jian Tao left the dormitory. Just as he stepped out, he saw Zhou Jin and Gu Huaian emerging from their room. Both of them looked like they had just woken up, with their hair sticking up in messy tufts.
Jian Tao went over to greet them, but Gu Huaian suddenly grabbed his hand. Gu Huaian leaned in close to sniff him, and his expression immediately stiffened.
Zhou Jin rolled his eyes at Gu Huaian and asked, “What are you doing?” He prepared to walk away in disdain, but his feet suddenly stopped as he also caught a familiar scent.
Zhou Jin’s expression turned rigid. He leaned toward Jian Tao and took a deep breath of the scent lingering on him. Jian Tao was frightened by their behavior. He hugged his arms to his chest and backed away, cold sweat breaking out on his forehead. He wondered if they had finally recognized him.
However, having almost been caught before, Jian Tao was not as anxious as the first time. He had rehearsed this scenario in his mind a thousand times. He reacted immediately by asking, “What are you two doing?”
Gu Huaian said nothing. His thin lips were pressed into a tight line as he stared intently at Jian Tao. Zhou Jin was not nearly as calm. He gripped Jian Tao’s shoulders excitedly and stammered, “You. Are you the rubber man?”
Jian Tao slapped his hands away and frowned. “Let go of me. What is wrong with you?”
Secretly, Jian Tao felt relieved. Sticking to his rehearsed lines was the right move. Zhou Jin’s chest heaved as he struggled to regain his composure. Gu Huaian stepped forward, pulling Zhou Jin’s hand off Jian Tao’s shoulder. He said calmly, “He is not. If he were, he would have slipped up a long time ago.”
Zhou Jin remained silent for a moment before replying, “True. With his brain, it would be impossible not to give himself away.” He then let out a sharp laugh and added, “I am glad you are not him.”
Jian Tao barely restrained himself from rolling his eyes. Psychos.
During the morning, Zhuang Sheng ordered a meal specifically for Jian Tao to deliver. Taking advantage of the fact that the regular food runner was not around, Jian Tao immediately took Zhuang Sheng’s tray and left the kitchen. He felt a sense of relief because the other food runner had become quite terrifying lately, looking at Jian Tao as if he were a mortal enemy.
When the elevator reached the fourth floor, Jian Tao saw Gu Huaian standing by a cleaning cart as if he were waiting for him.
“You should not be resting here. If you are caught, they will count it as being lazy,” Jian Tao reminded him.
Gu Huaian did not take the bait. Instead, he pushed the cart toward him and asked, “Going to 404?”
Jian Tao nodded. “Yes.”
Gu Huaian walked alongside him. “Then let us go together.”
Jian Tao was surprised. “You are going too?”
“Yes,” Gu Huaian replied. “I am going to clean the room.”
“But Mr. Zhuang usually has a specific person clean his room in the morning,” Jian Tao muttered, then smiled. “Well, it is better to go together. We can slack off a little.”
Gu Huaian nodded. By the time they reached the door, Jian Tao knocked, and it was opened almost immediately.
A magnificent face appeared. Long black hair contrasted against pale skin, giving off a sense of eerie beauty. Zhuang Sheng’s expression was elegant and poised. His smile flickered for a second when he saw Gu Huaian.
Gu Huaian spoke first, “Hello, sir. I am here to clean your room.”
Zhuang Sheng looked toward Jian Tao, who smiled and said, “We are doing it together.”
“Oh,” Zhuang Sheng replied. His gaze toward Gu Huaian was like a cold blade, yet he still smiled and stepped aside to let them in. “Please, come in.”
The moment Gu Huaian stepped inside, he froze. He had experienced many worlds, and very few could still make his skin crawl. He looked at the walls covered in rows of dolls. All of those dolls had eyes that seemed to be staring directly at him.
Other people might not notice anything, or perhaps their vision was clouded by the taboos of the room. However, for someone like Gu Huaian, who was highly sensitive to danger, the threat was obvious.
Jian Tao patted him on the shoulder. “I was scared when I first came here too, but I am used to it now.” He lowered his voice and added, “Mr. Zhuang is actually a very good person. He even invited us to have tea and snacks with him.”
Gu Huaian insisted, “I should finish cleaning first. You two go ahead and eat.”
“I will help you then,” Jian Tao said. He felt it would be wrong to let his idol do all the work alone.
In truth, Zhuang Sheng’s room was spotless. Their cleaning was mostly just for show. Zhuang Sheng sat on the sofa sketching, occasionally looking up at them while Jian Tao and Gu Huaian kept themselves busy with small tasks.
As Gu Huaian went to wipe a photo frame on the display shelf, his hand stopped. Although the figures in the photo were covered in painted colors, the person in the picture looked incredibly familiar.
Jian Tao saw the photo and his face turned red. He quickly took the frame, wiped it, and put it back. Though Gu Huaian was suspicious, he was fairly certain he knew who the semi-naked person in the photo was.
Jian Tao knew it was art, but he still felt a sense of shame being seen. He wanted to remain silent, but Zhuang Sheng spoke up. “Jian Tao modeled for that. Is it not beautiful?”
Jian Tao turned his head to protest, but from his angle, he realized Zhuang Sheng could not see his expression. As he turned back, he noticed the dolls on the shelf seemed to be watching him with stiff, eerie smiles. He jumped in fright.
Jian Tao clutched his chest. Zhuang Sheng put his drawing aside and walked over. He stood behind Jian Tao and took the photo down again. “This one is my favorite. Jian Tao’s expression was so shy. With the sunlight hitting his face, he looks pure and divine.”
Gu Huaian’s hands clenched instinctively. Zhuang Sheng turned to him and asked, “There are many more. Jian Tao took another set of photos for me the day before yesterday. Would you like to see them?”
Jian Tao quickly blocked him. He did not want to experience social death in front of his colleague. “There is nothing to see. We still have work to do. Mr. Zhuang, please go back to your drawing.”
Zhuang Sheng smiled gracefully. “Very well.”
Gu Huaian met Zhuang Sheng’s provocative gaze with a dark, somber look of his own. Once the cleaning was done, Zhuang Sheng generously offered them coffee. They sat around the coffee table in the living room, chatting occasionally. It seemed quite harmonious.
Jian Tao noticed a drawing Zhuang Sheng had just finished. “Mr. Zhuang, your drawing of the snow is beautiful.”
Zhuang Sheng smiled and handed the drawing to Jian Tao. “If you like it, you may have it.”
Jian Tao’s eyes lit up. “Really?” He was already thinking about where to hang it.
“Yes,” Zhuang Sheng said, pointing at the drawing. “I saw that snowy scene from the hotel rooftop. If you get the chance, you should go up there. It is beautiful.”
Gu Huaian’s hand paused as he held his coffee cup. Zhuang Sheng was looking at him with deep meaning. It was a clear hint. They had already planned to go to the rooftop, and now Zhuang Sheng was suggesting it. What exactly is on the rooftop?
Once the coffee was finished, Gu Huaian signaled for Jian Tao to leave. Jian Tao did not catch the hint. “What is it, Brother Huaian?”
Gu Huaian felt helpless. “We should go back. Otherwise, the food delivery work will fall on someone else.”
Jian Tao realized the other food runner was likely on the verge of a breakdown. “Right. Let us go back.” He turned to Zhuang Sheng and said, “Thank you for the coffee, Mr. Zhuang.”
Zhuang Sheng ruffled Jian Tao’s hair. “You are welcome. Do not overthink things. Come visit whenever you like.”
“I will,” Jian Tao promised happily.
Once they were out of the room, Gu Huaian’s face was incredibly dark. He walked ahead with large strides, ignoring Jian Tao. Jian Tao hurried to catch up. “What is wrong, Brother Huaian? You seemed fine a moment ago.”
Gu Huaian frowned at him. Jian Tao felt like he was being looked at as if he were a heartless man. “What did I do?”
“Let me ask you,” Gu Huaian said seriously. “Where is my white T-shirt?”
Jian Tao’s face turned bright red. He tried to sound defensive. “How should I know? I did not take it.”
Gu Huaian’s face was cold, yet a slight flush appeared on his cheeks. “I see. I wonder who would take my shirt. Why would someone take it if they did not like me?”
