The Delicate Beauty Grabbed the Cannon Fodder Villain’s Script [Quick Transmigration] - Chapter 48
A cold sweat broke out over Jian Tao. He truly did not know where he had slipped up. He had spent the most time with Zhou Jin, yet the man had not recognized him at all.
“I told you that was not me,” Jian Tao said, though his heart was racing with guilt. However, he quickly regained his confidence. Xu Nuo was merely a child with an incomplete intellect; there was no need to be nervous around him. A simple lie would suffice. He questioned the boy, “Why are you so certain that it is me?”
Xu Nuo looked up at Jian Tao’s expression and sensed that being recognized did not make him happy. He murmured softly, “I can just tell. Your scent and your soul are both yours.”
Xu Nuo spoke as if it were the most natural thing in the world, appearing confused as to why Jian Tao kept questioning him. When Jian Tao heard this, he swallowed hard. He felt a chill run through his body and pushed the clinging Xu Nuo away. “Then why did you say last night that I disliked you, while the Rubber Man did not mind your coldness?”
To his surprise, Xu Nuo suddenly burst into laughter. “Brother, you see! You admitted it! I said that on purpose just to see if you would reject me.”
Jian Tao was speechless. He realized that he was the only one in the room with a low intelligence. He had not expected to be outsmarted by a child. A wave of embarrassed anger washed over him.
“I said it was not me, and no matter what you say, it will not change that!” Jian Tao practically shouted. “I am leaving now. Stay in the room by yourself!”
Upon hearing this, Xu Nuo looked pained and anxious. He immediately hugged Jian Tao. “I will not say it anymore, Brother. Please stay with me a little longer.”
As Xu Nuo pressed against him, Jian Tao shivered again. He pushed the boy back slightly. “Fine, I will stay for a while, but you must get me some small cakes.”
Xu Nuo’s moods shifted as quickly as the wind. Seeing that Jian Tao was staying, he smiled brightly and hurried off to get the cakes. While eating, Jian Tao lectured Xu Nuo sternly, telling him never to call him the Rubber Man again or mention the matter to anyone. Xu Nuo was obedient and kept his mouth shut.
Eventually, unable to stand the boy’s freezing temperature any longer, Jian Tao left and returned to his post in the first-floor kitchen. There, he bumped into Gu Huaian, who appeared to be waiting for him.
“Brother Huaian, why are you here? You will be punished if you are caught away from your post!” Jian Tao said nervously.
Gu Huaian ignored the warning and frowned. “Have you been with the Manager this entire time?”
“No, I was in a guest room,” Jian Tao explained.
“I have been waiting for you for a long time. Is your job not food delivery?” Gu Huaian asked. Usually, delivering food meant going to a room and returning immediately; it should not take very long.
“There was just a difficult child,” Jian Tao stammered. He was too embarrassed to mention that the child was the one who wrote the diary. To avoid further questions, he changed the subject. “Brother Huaian, why were you looking for me?”
Suddenly, a shrill voice rang out, “Jian Tao! There is an order specifically requesting you!”
Startled by the shout, Jian Tao ran over to see a fellow runner standing with his arms crossed. The man sneered at him with an air of bitter sarcasm. “You are nowhere to be found all day, leaving all the work to me. You really are shameless!”
The runner was a thin man with sunken features and small, mean eyes. Jian Tao remained silent. He was surprised that a minor character would possess such intense emotions.
Gu Huaian walked over, his confusion deepening. “Are you always away from your post?”
In this world, being caught slacking by the Manager usually meant severe punishment. Even Gu Huaian was careful to follow the rules.
“Well, there is a very important guest,” Jian Tao whispered into Gu Huaian’s ear. “Mr. Zhuang in Room 404 is very kind. He lets me rest in his room whenever I go there. The hotel allows it.”
Gu Huaian’s expression turned grave. “Is Room 404 not a taboo? They say any staff member who enters never comes out.”
Jian Tao giggled. “Those are just rumors. He is a wonderful person.”
Just then, the shrill voice yelled again, “Are you delivering this or not? If the food gets cold, you will be in trouble!”
Jian Tao grabbed the tray. Coincidentally, the dishes were all things he liked, and the room number was 404. He turned to Gu Huaian with a smile. “See? It is for Mr. Zhuang’s room.”
Gu Huaian was about to speak when his phone rang. He was being called back to work. Since he was heading upstairs anyway, he walked with Jian Tao. Inside the elevator, Gu Huaian warned him seriously, “Be careful of that other runner. Some characters seem ordinary but can enter a frenzy. If you trigger them, they will become aggressive.”
“I understand!” Jian Tao promised. “By the way, Brother Huaian, what did you want to tell me earlier?”
“Right,” Gu Huaian remembered. “I found an exit to the rooftop in Room 803. I am not sure when the guest there will return, but I want to explore it when I have the chance.”
Before stepping out, Jian Tao said confidently, “Leave that to me. I will make sure he is not in Room 803 when you want to go.”
Gu Huaian could not help but let out a light laugh at Jian Tao’s confidence. “Alright, I will wait for your good news.”
Jian Tao arrived at Room 404 and knocked. Zhuang Sheng opened the door, looking as elegant and gentle as ever. Jian Tao was certain the rumors about the room were false. He entered and set the food on the table.
Zhuang Sheng approached him. His expression stiffened for a split second before returning to a warm smile. “Xiao Tao, did you go to the eighth floor again?”
Jian Tao looked blankly at him. “No, I did not.”
“I see,” Zhuang Sheng said casually. “You have the scent of the eighth floor on you. I thought you had visited.”
“Ah!” Jian Tao realized. “No, a guest from the eighth floor is staying on the fourth floor now. I was in his room this morning.”
“But Mr. Zhuang, you are amazing for being able to smell that,” Jian Tao said with curiosity.
Zhuang Sheng laughed and pulled Jian Tao to sit at the table. “I suppose I am sensitive to the atmosphere there. Also, the scent on you is quite strong.”
Jian Tao felt embarrassed, knowing it was because Xu Nuo had been clinging to him. “He is just like a child; he is very clingy.”
Zhuang Sheng’s smile did not reach his eyes. “He was clingy with you?”
“He is just a kid who wants someone to play with,” Jian Tao laughed awkwardly, changing the subject. “Mr. Zhuang, you should eat before the food gets cold.”
Zhuang Sheng did not press further and handed Jian Tao a pair of chopsticks. “Eat with me.”
Jian Tao did not leave Room 404 until his shift ended. He had spent the afternoon playing Gomoku with Zhuang Sheng and won most of the games. He was starting to get addicted. He had not expected Mr. Zhuang to be so bad at the game. It helped his confidence regarding his own intellect.
Back in the dormitory, Gu Huaian was sitting upright on the bed reading. Jian Tao showered and reapplied his makeup. Suddenly, the system issued a new task: “Collect something used by Gu Huaian and steal a piece of his intimate clothing. Reward: 10% plot completion.”
Jian Tao’s face flushed as he looked at Gu Huaian. Why were the tasks always like this?
Gu Huaian suddenly looked up. “Why do you keep staring at me?”
Jian Tao panicked. “I am not!”
His face was bright red. To his surprise, Gu Huaian did not seem bothered; he actually smiled slightly. He put his book down and said, “I am going to take a shower.”
Jian Tao realized this was the perfect time. He listened for the sound of the shower. Once the water was running, he hurried to Gu Huaian’s locker, grabbed a white T-shirt, and stuffed it into the corner of his own locker along with the previously stolen items.
When Gu Huaian came out, Jian Tao was already in bed, facing the wall. He listened to the footsteps and the sound of a locker opening. There was a moment of silence followed by Gu Huaian’s soft chuckle.
“Jian Tao,” Gu Huaian called.
Jian Tao froze and pretended to be asleep. Gu Huaian laughed again and called his name once more. This time, he asked, “Is the guest in Room 803 in tonight?”
Jian Tao opened his eyes, relieved. He yawned and turned around. “I am not sure. You should wait until tomorrow.”
Gu Huaian did not comment but simply stared at him. Jian Tao felt goosebumps; the look in Gu Huaian’s eyes was so gentle it was almost doting. Feeling strange, Jian Tao turned back around. “I am going to sleep.”
“Go ahead. I will use a defense item,” Gu Huaian said. He picked up his book again, though he kept looking at the figure on the other bed.
At the usual time, Jian Tao crossed over into the Rubber Man. “What taboo did I break today?” he asked the system.
“Today’s was great!” the system said excitedly. “You can now say two words every minute! You have achieved speech freedom!”
He went through the motions and appeared in the fourth-floor corridor. He hoped he would not run into anyone. Naturally, the door to Room 408 opened, and Zhou Jin and Gu Huaian stepped out.
Zhou Jin’s eyes lit up. “Jiaojiao! My cute Jiaojiao!”
Jian Tao wished Zhou Jin would just go away. “Jiaojiao, do you know how much I missed you last night?” Zhou Jin said dramatically.
Gu Huaian had intended to ignore them, but as he walked past the Rubber Man, a strange fragrance caught his attention. He stepped back and leaned toward Jian Tao’s neck to sniff.
Jian Tao panicked. Did he smell something too? Zhou Jin pushed Gu Huaian away. “What are you doing? This is my Jiaojiao. Do not take advantage of him!”
Gu Huaian ignored him, his face full of doubt. Curious, Zhou Jin leaned in as well and caught the scent. “Why does this smell so familiar?”
Suddenly, Gu Huaian reached out and ripped off the mask. Jian Tao’s stunning beauty was revealed. Zhou Jin was shocked that Gu Huaian would be so bold. He immediately stepped in front of Jian Tao. “What are you doing? I told you that I like Jiaojiao. Do you not already have Jian Tao?”
Jian Tao froze. What did that mean?
Gu Huaian pushed Zhou Jin aside irritably. “No one is stealing him from you.”
The face before them was as beautiful as any, even rivaling Jian Tao’s. But they were so similar. Zhou Jin laughed triumphantly. “See? Is he not even prettier than your Jian Tao? I told you he was better, and you did not believe me. Now you see!”
Gu Huaian and Jian Tao were both left in silence.
