The Delicate Beauty Grabbed the Cannon Fodder Villain’s Script [Quick Transmigration] - Chapter 47
The morning sunlight filtered through the window. After a long night, the makeup on Jian Tao’s face had become patchy and smudged. His eyelids flickered, feeling the sting of the bright light. He shielded his eyes with his hand and slowly opened them. He woke up feeling unusually peaceful. It was as if he had finally resigned himself to, and even become accustomed to, the fact that he turned into a rubber person every night.
He had not expected to fall asleep in Xu Nuo’s bed. Although the rubber person did not actually need sleep, the atmosphere of that room had felt ethereal, lulling his consciousness into a state of rest. Jian Tao let out a yawn and lowered his hand, only to be jolted awake the next second.
“Why are you all in my bed!” Jian Tao exclaimed.
He scrambled into a sitting position, staring blankly at the three men surrounding him. Zhao Jingyu, Zhou Jin, and Gu Huaian were all there. “What is going on?” Jian Tao asked, bewildered.
Zhou Jin’s face turned a shade of green. “You have the nerve to ask us what happened? You should be the one explaining why you suddenly fainted last night.”
Jian Tao’s face flushed instantly. He scratched the itchy corner of his eye. “I just suddenly fainted.”
The question immediately brought back the memories of the previous night. They had been in Xu Nuo’s room, discovered that Xu Nuo was the founder’s son, and found a diary entry mentioning Jian Tao. Under their interrogation, he had felt such shame and social death that he fainted and subsequently transformed. Furthermore, while in the torture room, he had seen the horrific photos of Li Liqun’s murder. He knew Li Liqun’s death likely had a great deal to do with him.
Jian Tao put on his shoes and got out of bed. Zhou Jin and Zhao Jingyu followed him relentlessly. “Why did you faint? Is it a health issue, or was it something about that room?”
“It is probably just my health,” Jian Tao said, forcing the lie. He now knew that even if he stayed in the dormitory instead of going out with them, he would still transform. Therefore, he decided he would no longer participate in their nighttime activities. Not only could he not help, but he might also faint mid-mission and become a burden.
“What?” Zhou Jin looked as if he were grinding his teeth. “You have a health condition? Is that part of your character setting?”
Jian Tao’s shoulders hunched up. He clumsily tried to change the subject. “Did you all get any sleep last night?”
“Of course we did,” Zhao Jingyu snapped. Last night had been a perfect opportunity for progress, but Jian Tao had ruined it. Who could have expected a grown man to pass out without any warning? “Why would we waste our energy standing guard over you?”
Zhou Jin pulled the conversation back to the main point. “Are you saying your identity is someone who easily faints in the middle of the night?”
Jian Tao swallowed hard as he looked at him. “Maybe it is.”
Hearing Jian Tao’s ambiguous answer, Zhou Jin felt his temper reaching its limit. “What do you mean maybe? Do you not know your own situation? If you do not explain clearly, how are we supposed to make decisions for you later?”
Jian Tao had already retreated into the bathroom. His eyes felt terribly itchy and uncomfortable. Looking in the mirror, he saw that the liquid eyeliner had clumped and caked on his eyelids. He began to wet a towel, but Zhou Jin and Zhao Jingyu were exceptionally persistent, seemingly determined to get to the bottom of his fainting spell.
Gu Huaian, seeing the two following Jian Tao into the bathroom, frowned. He stepped in after them and patted their shoulders. “Ask him later. Let him clean up first, or he will be late and face punishment.”
The two looked at Gu Huaian and fell silent, though they did not leave. Instead, they stood there staring at Jian Tao. At this moment, Jian Tao pressed the wet towel against his eyes. After a moment of thought, he said guiltily, “I only just realized it too. Usually, I am already asleep by that time of night.”
Since his character was already established as useless, he figured that if he played into that role, they would stop trying to take him out with them.
“You,” Zhou Jin said while pointing at him. In an infinite world, the most feared thing was a pig teammate, and he felt they had been stuck with the worst one. It was one thing to be unhelpful, but it was another to be a constant disruption.
Jian Tao finished rubbing one eye, leaving the eyelid a bit red. As he started on the other, he pouted. “I am sorry. I will not cause any more trouble for you.”
Seeing his reddened eyes, Zhou Jin’s harsh reprimands suddenly died in his throat. Gu Huaian walked directly to Jian Tao, ruffled his hair, and said comfortingly, “Stay in the dormitory at night. The items I have are enough to carry us through the end of this world.”
Zhou Jin and Zhao Jingyu were shocked once again. They knew Gu Huaian was gentle with Jian Tao, but they never imagined it had reached this level. After Jian Tao had made such a serious, amateur mistake, Gu Huaian was actually comforting him and touching his hair. Was this still the same distant, unreachable flower they knew?
When they looked at Jian Tao again, their gazes were filled with disbelief. This Jian Tao was far too good at social climbing. Not only was the Manager biased toward him and the guest on the eighth floor fond of him, but now even Gu Huaian, the top-tier legend of the infinite world, was treating him this way.
Zhou Jin and Zhao Jingyu intended to turn and leave, but catching a glimpse of Jian Tao’s exposed, reddened eyes, they suddenly found it difficult to move. Jian Tao pressed the freshly rinsed towel over his face, tilting his head back to prevent it from falling off. This was the best method he had discovered for removing his heavy makeup: use a hot towel to melt most of it away first.
The scene was quite bizarre. Three large men were squeezed into a small bathroom, watching another man wash his face, yet none of them wanted to budge. The moment Jian Tao removed the towel, he heard a collective intake of breath. Startled, he took a step back, wondering why they were still there. He promised again, “I will not go exploring with you anymore. I definitely will not hold you back again.”
Having said that, Jian Tao leaned down to wash his face with foam. Behind him, Zhou Jin and Zhao Jingyu exchanged a look of pure shock. They realized how foolish they had been. They had previously been baffled as to how Jian Tao could build rapport with so many people, but now the answer was painfully obvious.
Zhou Jin could not regain his composure for a long time. After seeing Jian Tao’s true appearance, the first image that flashed into his mind was that of the rubber person. Their looks seemed to be on par with one another.
Jian Tao quickly finished washing and drying his face. He was surprised to find the others still standing there. Feeling helpless, he simply began reapplying his makeup. The atmosphere felt oppressive because their silent staring made him smudge his eyeliner. Suddenly, Zhao Jingyu murmured, “Why do you feel the need to wear makeup?”
Before Jian Tao could answer, Zhou Jin reacted explosively. “What pretty? Pretty where? He is not pretty at all. He is nowhere near as good looking as my rubber person.”
The eyeliner pen in Jian Tao’s hand paused for a fraction of a second. He shot Zhou Jin a look that implied he was a psycho. Jian Tao thought to himself that the rubber person was also him.
Surprisingly, Jian Tao was not late today. After the morning meeting, the Manager took him to patrol the floors. Jian Tao was no longer as afraid of the Manager. In fact, he felt like he was being given a lot of responsibility. He had been granted significant authority, including the ability to adjust guest room assignments, which allowed him to give room cards to Gu Huaian’s team to make their movements easier.
“You did not eat breakfast again, did you?” the Manager asked.
Jian Tao smiled sheepishly. To avoid being late, he had skipped the cafeteria. “No, I did not.”
The Manager pulled a small, wrapped cake from his pocket, opened it, and handed it to Jian Tao. “Eat this.”
“Thank you, Manager!” Jian Tao said happily. He took a bite immediately. For the past few days, the Manager had been handling his breakfast. He had never expected to find such a caring boss in this place. The cake tasted wonderful. As Jian Tao ate, the Manager watched him with pleasure, reaching out to stroke Jian Tao’s dyed yellow hair.
Just then, a cleaning cart was pushed out of a guest room, followed by Gu Huaian. Gu Huaian froze for a moment when he saw them, and his expression darkened. He greeted them stiffly. “Manager. Jian Tao.”
Jian Tao looked delighted to see him because his character setting dictated that he had special feelings for Gu Huaian. “Brother Huaian, are you cleaning rooms?”
Gu Huaian’s expression softened slightly. “Yes, I am.”
The Manager withdrew his hand from Jian Tao’s hair. Seeing that Jian Tao had finished the cake, he took the empty wrapper and tossed it casually into the cleaning cart Gu Huaian was pushing. He then said sternly to Gu Huaian, “Do not loiter in the hallways. Get back to work.”
Gu Huaian glanced at him. “I am heading downstairs now.”
The Manager’s face darkened, and he gave him a warning look. “Go to the eighth floor and clean Room 803.”
Hearing this, Gu Huaian looked at him and nodded. “Understood, Manager.”
Jian Tao thought to himself that this was a perfect, legitimate excuse for Gu Huaian to enter Room 803. It was a great opportunity, and Gu Huaian would certainly take advantage of it. Gu Huaian entered the corner elevator first. While Jian Tao and the Manager were still walking slowly down the hall, a room door ahead suddenly opened. Jian Tao saw a familiar face.
Xu Nuo stepped out of the room. He froze upon seeing Jian Tao, then ran over joyfully and grabbed Jian Tao’s hand. “Brother, you came to find me!”
Jian Tao was stunned. He then remembered they were on the fourth floor, so it was normal to run into Xu Nuo. However, the question put him in a difficult spot. “I actually…”
Beside him, the Manager also seemed shocked to see Xu Nuo. He looked at the room number, and a flicker of astonishment crossed his face. He quickly replaced it with a professional smile. “Jian Tao, it seems the guest has business with you. Remember, you must satisfy all requirements of the guest.”
Jian Tao looked at the Manager, then nodded blankly to Xu Nuo. “Right.”
Xu Nuo appeared incredibly happy. He pulled Jian Tao toward the guest room and then spoke imperiously to the Manager. “Bring me some desserts and snacks.”
The Manager nodded. “Of course.”
However, the moment he turned his back, the smile on his face vanished instantly. Inside Room 409, Xu Nuo pulled Jian Tao into an embrace, burying his nose in Jian Tao’s neck to breathe in his scent. “Brother, why did you come out last night?”
Jian Tao’s heart began to thud wildly. He wondered if Xu Nuo had recognized him. “What do you mean? I did not go out last night,” Jian Tao said in a panic. He absolutely did not want anyone to know about his dual identity.
“I recognized you, Brother,” Xu Nuo said with a giggle, like a child waiting for praise.
“What are you talking about? That was not me at all,” Jian Tao argued, his face turning red.
“Liar. Brother, will you come again tonight?”
