The Crematorium of the Top Omega Chasing After Alpha - Chapter 19.2
Ming Yu was momentarily speechless. “And she doesn’t mind?”
“Why would she mind? Having a daughter won’t interfere with my work.”
Song Qingpei felt that Ming Yu simply looked down on her and was trying every possible way to humiliate and undermine her. Anger surged within her. “I know you look down on me, but please, for the sake of mercy, stop targeting me. Don’t ruin the job I worked so hard to get. I’m begging you!”
“That’s not what I meant.”
Ming Yu tried to explain her real concern was the issue of Omega pheromones from last night.
“If that’s not what you meant, then good.” Song Qingpei immediately relaxed and hurriedly clarified, “Don’t worry, I’ll keep everything from the past completely confidential. I won’t use your identity to achieve anything either.”
Believing they had reached an understanding, Song Qingpei didn’t give Ming Yu a chance to speak further. She quickly strode away.
After all, it was their first meal together, and it wouldn’t be right to keep the other person waiting too long.
By the time Ming Yu snapped out of it and chased after her, Song Qingpei had already walked out with long strides. Ming Yu could only grit her teeth and follow.
When Song Qingpei returned to her seat, she was taken aback to see an extra person sitting beside Murong Ruixue.
“Qingpei, you’re back.”
Noticing her return, Murong Ruixue stood up and said, “Let me introduce you. This is my friend, Song Xihan. What a coincidence running into her here.”
“Hello.” Song Qingpei greeted politely. “Nice to meet you.”
“What a coincidence! Ruixue mentioned you also have the surname Song. We might have been part of the same family centuries ago.” Song Xihan struck up a conversation with effortless familiarity, discreetly observing Song Qingpei.
She couldn’t help but think how striking this woman looked, especially those clear, limpid eyes like autumn water that seemed to draw people in effortlessly. No wonder even someone as aloof as Ming Yu seemed so tense around her.
Taken aback by her warmth, Song Qingpei smiled on the surface but couldn’t help speculating inwardly. This Miss Song Xihan seemed to have arrived with Ming Yu earlier. If Ming Yu showed up now, things were bound to get awkward again.
Speak of the devil, and he shall appear.
Sure enough, before long, Ming Yu walked up to the three of them, her gaze unapologetically fixed on Song Qingpei.
Remembering their earlier “agreement,” Song Qingpei lowered her head, pretending not to know her.
A simmering fire seemed to ignite in Ming Yu’s heart. Just as she was about to speak, Song Xihan beside her spoke first. “Ming Yu, I ran into some friends. Come join us.”
After a brief silence, Ming Yu naturally took a seat beside Song Qingpei.
Song Qingpei was momentarily stunned and instinctively shifted inward, which only added to Ming Yu’s growing displeasure.
And so, the seating arrangement became: Song Qingpei and Ming Yu sitting side by side, Murong Ruixue and Song Xihan sitting side by side, with Song Qingpei and Murong Ruixue facing each other.
“Xihan, aren’t you going to introduce your friend?” Murong Ruixue prompted.
Song Xihan pointed at Ming Yu with a cheerful smile and said, “Ruixue, let me formally introduce you, this is my blind date for today, Ming Yu.”
Upon hearing this, Song Qingpei couldn’t help but look up at Song Xihan. It suddenly occurred to her that Ming Yu had mentioned going on a blind date earlier could it be with this Miss Song? She clearly came from a wealthy background, which seemed quite compatible with Ming Yu’s family status.
Before Song Qingpei could gather her thoughts, she heard Murong Ruixue exclaim in surprise, “…General Ming Yu?”
Ming Yu hadn’t expected Murong Ruixue to recognize her. She nodded slightly and replied, “Hello, I’m Ming Yu.”
“What an honor!” Murong Ruixue’s face briefly showed astonishment before she quickly composed herself, extending her right hand. “I’ve long heard of General Ming, but I never expected to meet you in person. I’m Murong Ruixue, delighted to make your acquaintance.”
Ming Yu shook her hand politely.
As Song Qingpei watched the three exchange pleasantries, she inwardly marveled at how they all seemed to know each other in some roundabout way, while she remained the only obscure nobody in the group.
To make matters more awkward, Murong Ruixue earnestly introduced Song Qingpei to Ming Yu. When their eyes met, Ming Yu looked at her with a faint, ambiguous smile. Song Qingpei pretended not to notice and lowered her head, sipping tea to hide her discomfort.
Ming Yu felt somewhat irritated but couldn’t show it outright, so she maintained a calm demeanor as she chatted with the other two.
The meal proceeded with everyone lost in their own thoughts.
Both Murong Ruixue and Song Xihan were perceptive enough to sense the strange atmosphere and soon lost their appetites.
Exchanging a glance, they said in unison, “It’s getting late. How about we arrange to meet another day?”
“Sounds good. Let’s catch up another time,” Song Xihan agreed readily.
Murong Ruixue stood up and turned to Song Qingpei. “Qingpei, let me give you a ride home.”
“No need.”
“Unnecessary.”
Song Qingpei and Ming Yu spoke almost simultaneously.
Instantly, all three pairs of eyes turned to Ming Yu.
Song Qingpei was speechless, Murong Ruixue was astonished, and Song Xihan wore an amused, spectator-like expression.
Ming Yu, now the center of attention, remained unperturbed. She merely cast a meaningful glance in Song Qingpei’s direction.
Song Qingpei had no choice but to explain, “No need to trouble yourself. I can take a taxi home.”
“Alright then, I’ll be off now.”
With a bright smile, Murong Ruixue stood and left.
The remaining trio found themselves in an awkward silence, with Song Xihan clearly enjoying the drama.
“Ahem.”
She cleared her throat softly and, catching Ming Yu’s warning look, promptly said, “Well, it’s getting late. I should head out too. Oh, and don’t forget what we discussed earlier, you’re responsible for handling things with the elders from both families.”
“Understood.”
Ming Yu nodded, signaling for her to leave quickly.
After Song Xihan departed, the two were once again enveloped in silence.
Feeling the awkwardness, Song Qingpei took the initiative and said, “Let’s go. Song Song must be waiting anxiously at home.”
“Mm,” Ming Yu replied.
They left together and got into Ming Yu’s car.
The journey was once again steeped in silence, with neither of them initiating conversation.
Song Qingpei was still preoccupied with thoughts of Ming Yu’s blind date. Her emotions were tangled—she felt worried about Song Song’s future, yet inexplicably irritated at the same time.
It wasn’t jealousy, but the thought of Ming Yu’s previously ambiguous “□□” relationship with her made her inexplicably disgusted. She felt it necessary to clarify to Ming Yu that she would absolutely not act as a dildo during her next heat cycle that was simply too humiliating.
Meanwhile, Ming Yu remained fixated on one question: Why did Song Qingpei carry the scent of an unfamiliar Omega pheromone?
Was the pheromone she detected that day from Murong Ruixue?
What exactly was their relationship?
Were they merely professional partners?
Or…
A series of doubts swirled relentlessly in Ming Yu’s mind, suffocating her. She struggled to control her breathing, trying to calm herself.
Only after parking the car did Ming Yu take a deep breath and turn to look at Song Qingpei.
“I…”
“You!”
They spoke almost simultaneously, then both fell silent.
Ming Yu frowned and asked, “What did you want to say?”
“I…” Song Qingpei hesitated. “You go first.”
Ming Yu pressed her lips together and finally voiced her question. “Song Qingpei, what exactly was going on with the Omega pheromone on you last night? Please explain.”
Song Qingpei furrowed her brow slightly. The matter was somewhat complicated, and since it involved Murong Ruixue’s privacy, she wasn’t keen on discussing it.
“Song Qingpei?” Ming Yu raised her voice when she received no response after a long pause. “What’s going on?”
“I don’t think this has anything to do with you.”
Ming Yu nearly exploded with anger at those words, gritting her teeth as she retorted, “You say this has nothing to do with me?”
Song Qingpei looked at her with a puzzled expression, as if genuinely confused, and replied coldly, “Ming Yu, our relationship ended long ago. Now, aside from sharing a daughter, we have nothing to do with each other. What right do you have to question me about such a private matter? The blunt questioning left Ming Yu speechless.
Song Qingpei was right they had ended things long ago but a surge of anger still simmered inside her with no outlet.
She took a deep breath, suppressing her rage, and feigned calm as she said, “I just think that since Song Song is still young, you shouldn’t be getting involved with others ambiguously at this time.”
“Is that so?” Song Qingpei couldn’t resist sneering. “Weren’t you the one going on blind dates? Don’t be such a hypocrite!”
“I didn’t!”
Song Qingpei scoffed. “Then who was that you were having dinner with just now?”
“We were just—”
Ming Yu tried to explain, but Song Qingpei cut her off. “Forget it. It’s your private business, and I have no right to interfere.”
With that, Song Qingpei moved to push the car door open.
Seeing this, Ming Yu reached out and grabbed her arm. After a moment of silence, she said in a low, husky voice, “Song Qingpei, are you jealous because of Song Xihan?”
As if hearing a joke, Song Qingpei laughed mockingly. “What do you think?”
Ming Yu’s eyes flickered, lost in thought.
When she remained silent, Song Qingpei ignored her and stepped out of the car.
After taking only two steps, Ming Yu got out and blocked her path again, staring at her stubbornly.
“Song Qingpei, you said you loved me.”
Utterly confused by her actions, Song Qingpei froze for a moment before instinctively retorting, “Who said I loved you?”
“That night with the aphrodisiac incense, you said with your own lips that you loved me,” Ming Yu pressed aggressively.
Bringing up that night only made Song Qingpei recall the slap she had received, fueling her anger. She sneered, “I said, I loved you, do you understand? That means I don’t love you now. I’m not a masochist, why would I degrade myself by loving someone who doesn’t love me back?”
Ming Yu stared at her blankly, as if trying to discern whether her words were true.
Seeing this, Song Qingpei grew even angrier, convinced that Ming Yu was testing whether she still harbored any lingering feelings.
He immediately said coldly, “Ming Yu, I mean what I say. I will no longer bother you. I also hope you can show some grace. Since we’re cutting ties, let’s make a clean break. Whether you’re going on blind dates or dating someone else, don’t use Song Song to threaten me into helping you through your heat cycle anymore. It disgusts me.”
With that, he shook off her hand and strode away.
Leaving Ming Yu standing alone in place, unable to collect herself for a long time.
He actually said she disgusted him?
Ming Yu’s face flushed and then paled. No wonder she had felt that Song Qingpei’s attitude had become strange recently, completely different from how she remembered.
So, it was because he no longer liked her.
In that instant, Ming Yu felt a heart-wrenching pain, but she still refused to admit it.
She couldn’t accept it.
