The Crematorium of the Top Omega Chasing After Alpha - Chapter 19.1
Stellar Sea Restaurant.
A renowned dining establishment in Lanxing, its dome was designed by the most famous painter, Yan Ke, to resemble the Milky Way. Looking up, one could see a sky full of stars, though the cost of dining there was astronomical.
Song Qingpei followed Murong Ruixue through the door, inwardly marveling at the place. If it were up to her, she would never have had the chance to set foot in such a venue in her lifetime.
The two chose a table by the window, where a waiter politely pulled out their chairs. They sat facing each other.
Murong Ruixue wore a well-tailored suit dress, her makeup flawless and her hair elegantly styled, giving her an intellectual aura.
She handed the menu to Song Qingpei and said with a smile, “Take a look and see what you’d like to eat.”
Song Qingpei waved her hands dismissively. “I don’t know much about these things. Just order whatever you think is good. There’s no need to spend so much.”
“How could I do that?” Murong Ruixue’s gaze rested on her, her tone filled with gratitude. “If it weren’t for you today, my pheromones would have spiraled out of control. You’re my savior. Please, don’t be polite. Order whatever you like.”
Hearing her bring up the topic again, Song Qingpei felt somewhat awkward.
As a low-tier Alpha, she truly couldn’t understand why an Omega’s heat cycle was so difficult to control. First, there was Ming Yu, who had been tormented by hormonal imbalances, dragging Song Qingpei down with her. And now, right after starting her new job, she had encountered a superior with an irregular heat cycle.
Earlier, she had gone to see Murong Ruixue about some work matters and happened to find her having broken her inhibitor. She had simply helped her retrieve a new one and administer the injection hardly worthy of being called a lifesaver. Yet Murong Ruixue insisted that she had helped her maintain her dignity as an Omega in front of so many people and insisted on treating her to a meal.
Unable to decline such earnest hospitality, and considering they would have to work together in the future, Song Qingpei had no choice but to reluctantly agree. “I really don’t know what to order. Could you please order for me?”
Murong Ruixue smiled warmly. “Alright, then I’ll order.”
She picked up the menu, flipped through it, and selected two or three dishes. She then pointed to the items on the menu, giving Song Qingpei a brief introduction, and finally insisted that she choose two dishes herself before closing the menu.
She signaled to the waiter, “That’s all for now.”
“Very well, please wait a moment, ladies.”
After the waiter left, the two of them, who were not yet familiar with each other, found the atmosphere somewhat awkward.
Murong Ruixue broke the silence first. “Qingpei, I saw on your resume that you previously worked on Planet N69. Are you new to Lanxing?”Mentioning this made Song Qingpei feel a bit self-conscious, but she answered honestly, ‘Yes, I was an interstellar wanderer before.’ I only joined Planet N69 five years ago and haven’t been on Lanxing for long. I’m truly grateful to you for giving me this job opportunity.”
“It’s nothing. You earned this job with your own abilities.” Murong Ruixue gave a light laugh, her eyes lingering on Song Qingpei’s face. “Believe me, you have talent. Your future achievements will be limitless.”
Song Qingpei felt a bit embarrassed by the praise. “You’re overestimating me.”
Murong Ruixue teased, “What? Are you doubting yourself, or are you questioning my judgment?”
“That’s not what I meant.”
Song Qingpei hurriedly explained, but when she looked up and saw Murong Ruixue’s relaxed expression, she realized the other woman was joking. She couldn’t help but laugh along.
For a moment, a faintly relaxed atmosphere filled the private room.
Before long, the waitstaff began serving dishes one after another, and the table was soon laden with an array of delicacies.
Murong Ruixue warmly attended to Song Qingpei, and the two ended their conversation, tacitly enjoying the delicious feast together.
It was during a lull in the meal.
Song Qingpei happened to glance up just as Ming Yu entered, and she froze for a moment, her expression shifting slightly.
“Qingpei, what’s wrong?”
Noticing Song Qingpei’s unusual reaction, Murong Ruixue asked.
Thinking that Ming Yu wouldn’t want others to know about their relationship, Song Qingpei subtly averted her gaze and feigned nonchalance. “It’s nothing.”
Murong Ruixue nodded, her eyes inadvertently following Song Qingpei’s line of sight. A flicker of surprise crossed her gaze, but she didn’t press further. Instead, she picked up a piece of fish with her chopsticks and placed it in Song Qingpei’s bowl.
“This fish looks quite tender. Give it a try.”
“Thank you, but there’s no need to trouble yourself. I can help myself.”
Song Qingpei felt somewhat uncomfortable with such intimate gestures and spoke with a hint of restraint.
But Murong Ruixue gave her no chance to refuse, placing the fish in her bowl. “Go ahead and eat. It won’t be as good once it cools.”
Song Qingpei glanced at the overly enthusiastic woman across from her, hesitated for a moment, then lowered her head and began to eat. Still, she couldn’t help muttering to herself, feeling that something was off.
Their seemingly intimate exchange did not escape Ming Yu’s notice as she entered.
Her gaze lowered slightly, the emotions in her eyes unreadable, but her exquisitely beautiful face carried an elusive chill.
Seeing this, Song Xihan, who stood beside her, followed her gaze and deliberately asked, “That must be Miss Song, right? Should we go join their table?”
Ming Yu’s eyes turned colder. “No need.”
At this, the amusement in Song Xihan’s eyes grew even more pronounced.
The two ascended to the second floor via opposite staircases and arrived at the table Song Xihan had reserved earlier. Coincidentally, it faced Song Qingpei’s table across a carved wooden railing, with several potted plants arranged between them, forming a secluded little space.
Ming Yu sat down with a cold expression, while Song Xihan remarked with evident interest, “So, what do you think? Not a bad spot, is it?”
Ming Yu shot her a cold glance and said nothing.
Unfazed, Song Xihan took a seat beside Ming Yu, looking as though she were settling in to watch a show.
Just then, a waitress arrived with their meal and a bottle of red wine.
“Enjoy your meal!”
As the waitress withdrew, Song Xihan raised her glass toward Ming Yu. “Come on, let’s see how this tastes.”
Ming Yu remained silent but picked up her glass, clinking it lightly with Song Xihan’s. She took a small sip and said coldly, “Song Xihan, what are you trying to pull with this act?”
“Since you’re asking so directly, I’ll be frank.”
Song Xihan smiled. “You know my family has been pressuring me to marry. They’ve been trying to set us up for a while, and now that you’re soaring to new heights, my family is practically ready to hand me over to you as a ready-made mother. So, I’m here to ask your thoughts on a marriage of convenience. It’s not like you’d lose out, and I’d finally get some relief from the pressure.”
“…”
Ming Yu’s brow furrowed, her expression darkening.
When she didn’t respond, Song Xihan continued, “I just wanted to see how you really feel about your ex. It’s not that you still have feelings for her, is it?”
Ming Yu’s face hardened. “My affairs are none of your concern, and I have no intention of entering a marriage of convenience with you.”
Her attitude was somewhat forceful, but Song Xihan didn’t get angry. “Alright then. In that case, you handle both sets of parents. Tell them it’s you who doesn’t want me, so my parents will stop pressuring me to pursue you.”
Ming Yu remained silent for a long moment before finally nodding.
“Fine, I understand.”
Song Xihan raised his glass with a smile. “Cheers!”
Their glasses clinked, producing a crisp sound.
Ming Yu was distracted, her gaze involuntarily drifting through the blurry potted plants toward Song Qingpei across the room, only to meet her dark, bright eyes. The moment their eyes locked, she awkwardly averted her gaze, her heart racing inexplicably.
Song Xihan noticed her unusual reaction and teased, “What’s wrong? Feeling guilty?”
Ming Yu remained expressionless and didn’t respond.
Song Xihan continued, “I’m genuinely curious, what exactly happened between you and this ex of yours? When your daughter was recognized by the Ming family, no one mentioned this person. Otherwise, my mother wouldn’t have been so eager to push me to pursue you.”
Ming Yu frowned slightly, a flicker of complexity passing through her eyes before she lowered her gaze, concealing the emotions swirling within.
Seeing her remain silent, Song Xihan lost interest and didn’t press further, instead observing the two with amusement.
Ming Yu stayed quiet for a while, but as she watched the two of them chatting and laughing, her expression grew increasingly cold.
Finally, unable to bear it any longer, she took out her smart device and sent a message.
Moments later, Song Qingpei’s phone buzzed with a message from Ming Yu.
【Come to the restroom.】
The tone was as commanding as ever.
Song Qingpei could almost guess what she wanted undoubtedly another round of threats, warning her to watch her words and not reveal their past relationship, something Ming Yu had always been ashamed of.
“Excuse me, I need to make a call.”
She offered an apologetic smile to Murong Ruixue, then picked up her phone and left the table, heading toward the restroom.
The moment Song Qingpei left, Ming Yu stood up and turned in the direction she had gone.
Noticing this, Song Qingpei’s lips curled into an ambiguous smile as she also rose to follow.
When Song Qingpei reached the restroom, she glanced around but saw no one. Frowning, she was about to make a call when she noticed Ming Yu standing behind her with a stern expression.
Instinctively, Song Qingpei took two steps back, eyeing her warily. “What are you doing here?”
“Come with me!”
Ignoring her question, Ming Yu kept her face cold and turned to walk in another direction.
Seeing this, Song Qingpei quickly followed.
The two entered a private room, where Ming Yu sat on the sofa, her expression unreadable as she stared at Song Qingpei.
Song Qingpei sat opposite her, feeling perplexed by the scrutiny. Before she could speak, Ming Yu demanded, “Song Qingpei, what exactly is your relationship with her?”
To Song Qingpei, the tone sounded exactly like that of someone interrogating a criminal.
“That’s none of your business,” Song Qingpei replied, adding, “Don’t worry, I won’t tell anyone about our relationship. It won’t affect you in any way.”
Ming Yu let out a cold laugh. “Hmph, you’re just worried it’ll affect you, aren’t you?”
“What do you mean by that?” Song Qingpei asked, confused.
Recalling the Omega pheromones she had detected the night before, Ming Yu felt a surge of anger burning in her chest. She sneered, “Exactly what I said. Take it at face value.”
Song Qingpei grew increasingly bewildered. “I don’t understand what you’re talking about. But if you called me here just to play guessing games, then I have to tell you, I don’t have time for such pointless games.”
With that, she stood up to leave.
“Stop right there!”
“What else do you want?”
Ming Yu’s chest heaved as she struggled to suppress her anger. “Does she know you have a daughter?”
Once again, the question left Song Qingpei utterly confused. “What does that have to do with anything?”
“I’m asking if she knows.”
“Yes, she does.” Song Qingpei replied, visibly exasperated.
