- Chapter 48 - Sky-High Breach of Contract Penalty
“Fine, I’ll answer the call.”
Xu Youyan helplessly lowered her head, but when she saw who the caller was, her expression turned even uglier.
“What’s wrong?”
Bo Zhoucheng also leaned in to look and saw Peng Ding’s name.
“He’s definitely trying to persuade me to go back to the dinner.”
Xu Youyan irritably ran her fingers through her hair, wanting to block the number directly. However, artists must avoid falling out with their agents at all costs.
Because agents often hold compromising information about you.
Xu Youyan had done plenty of foolish things in her youth. Just as she was torn between answering or not answering, a hand reached over.
“Give it to me.”
“Youyou, I’ll handle it.”
Bo Zhoucheng’s voice wasn’t loud, but it inexplicably conveyed a sense of security.
Without much hesitation, Xu Youyan handed the phone directly to Bo Zhoucheng.
“Xu Youyan, do you have any idea how childish you’re being!”
“Do you think you can influence company executives? Whoever they tell you to accompany, you accompany them! Do you know how much investment a movie requires? How many connections need to be maintained for you to get the lead role!”
Peng Ding, finally hearing the call connect, unleashed a torrent of scolding. Only after venting did he feel slightly relieved.
“What did you say?”
Bo Zhoucheng’s cool voice rang out, like a snowstorm in June, startling Peng Ding so much that the cigarette in his hand fell onto some paper documents.
The papers caught fire, the unpleasant smell of smoke filling the air.
“Peng Ding, I had no idea this was how you treated artists.”
Bo Zhoucheng raised an eyebrow, her words carrying no courtesy.
“Why is it you? Where’s Xu Youyan?”
Peng Ding’s voice dropped several notches. Everyone feared Bo Zhoucheng, feared the power behind her.
After all, for a major company to crush ants like them was all too easy, especially since the Bo family had investments in the film and television industry.
“Peng Ding, you’ve got quite the nerve.”
Bo Zhoucheng didn’t answer the question, her tone growing colder.
“Sending my girlfriend to someone else, letting that old man take advantage of her only you people could do something so disgusting.”
Bo Zhoucheng took a deep breath.
“Youyou won’t be working for Huanxin anymore.”
With that, she hung up, leaving Xu Youyan wide-eyed.
“Bo Zhoucheng, breaching the contract means paying a penalty.”
The reason sky-high breach of contract penalties are called sky-high isn’t without cause. Xu Youyan had worked hard for so many years.
If she breached the contract, she might even end up owing the company money.
Bo Zhoucheng nodded.
“I know.”
“If you know, then why.”
Xu Youyan nearly lunged forward to shout in her ear, but managed to restrain herself.
“Youyou, even if I have to pay this sky-high penalty, I can’t let you stay in this den of iniquity any longer.”
Bo Zhoucheng reached out, her warm fingertips brushing Xu Youyan’s cheek, her words filled with sincerity.
She couldn’t always be there in time, and in the entertainment industry, if something like this happened once, it would happen again. Bo Zhoucheng didn’t dare imagine what might happen if she weren’t by Xu Youyan’s side.
Rather than living in constant anxiety, it was better to cut the Gordian knot quickly.
“But.”
Xu Youyan’s cheeks flushed red as she lowered her head in shame.
“I don’t have that much money.”
Xu Youyan didn’t come from a privileged background she could be considered from the lower classes. Her rise was entirely due to her looks.
So, after the fire,
Xu Youyan hardly saved any money she spent it as she pleased.
Bo Zhoucheng blinked, then let out a soft laugh, pulling Xu Youyan into her arms and gently kissing her cheeks.
“I have money.”
Not to mention the private savings Bo Zhoucheng had tucked away, even the dividends from the shares her father and mother had given her amounted to a considerable sum each year.
“It’s enough to cover your breach of contract penalty.”
As a top-tier A-list celebrity, Xu Youyan’s penalty for breaking her contract was actually as high as hundreds of millions.
That was why many people, even after becoming famous, couldn’t leave their original companies contracts were one thing, but the penalty was another.
Xu Youyan shook her head and pushed Bo Zhoucheng away.
“I can’t do that. I can’t take your money.”
It made her seem like a gold-digger. Xu Youyan had a simple mindset she didn’t want to mix money and love, as that would taint its purity.
“Why?”
Bo Zhoucheng blinked, not impatient, but leaned in again, wrapping her arms around Xu Youyan from behind. To prevent her from breaking free, she clasped her hands over Xu Youyan’s stomach.
“Then I’d owe you too much. I wouldn’t know how to repay you,”
Before Xu Youyan could finish speaking, a pair of warm lips sealed hers, swallowing the rest of her words, never to be spoken.
Though Xu Youyan’s words were sincere, Bo Zhoucheng didn’t like hearing them.
Xu Youyan’s body went weak, utterly powerless to resist, allowing the other to do as she pleased. Her fingers tightened on Bo Zhoucheng’s shoulders, gripping harder and harder.
It was a long time before Bo Zhoucheng finally gave them a chance to breathe.
“Don’t say things like that. You and I are one, okay? I’ll only love you in this lifetime. How could I bear to let you suffer in such a place?”
Bo Zhoucheng spoke while still slightly breathless, but her words were filled with sincerity.
“If, Youyan, you truly feel guilty.”
Bo Zhoucheng leaned in closer.
“Then stay with me. Don’t take on so many roles just act in whatever you want. I only want you to be happy. I only want you by my side.”
Xu Youyan tucked her messy strands of hair behind her ear, thought for a long moment, and finally nodded.
“I’ll listen to you.”
Since Bo Zhoucheng didn’t care about worldly possessions, neither would she.
“That’s wonderful.”
Overjoyed, Bo Zhoucheng pulled Xu Youyan into a tight embrace, her arms squeezing so hard that Xu Youyan nearly suffocated.
“Alright, alright, no need to be so excited.”
Xu Youyan looked up at Bo Zhoucheng, her voice faint, and only then did the other release her.
“Then let’s prepare for our trip.”
Bo Zhoucheng’s luggage, which she hadn’t yet unpacked, could now be put to use again.
“Mm.”
Xu Youyan nodded.
Just as she was about to ask where they were going, she noticed Bo Zhoucheng’s disheveled clothes. Instantly, Xu Youyan felt a bit embarrassed, thinking that if it weren’t for that phone call earlier, the two of them would probably have already.
This night was destined to be a sleepless one.
Bo Zhoucheng’s cool, slender fingers were something she would never forget for the rest of her life.
That night, Xu Youyan’s phone kept ringing incessantly, irritating her.
In the end, she simply turned it off, cutting off all messages.
Lying on the soft pillow, the faint, elusive scent of Bo Zhoucheng still lingered in the air.
Xu Youyan felt as though she hadn’t slept so soundly in a long time.
She had a dream, in which the director, with tears in his eyes, apologized to her.
What a wonderful dream.
Indeed, as long as Bo Zhouchen was by her side, it always gave her a sense of security.
