The Cold and Distant Actress is Too Obsessive - Chapter 17
Today’s variety show recording continued with small games. Xu Youyan had rested fairly well the night before, so she was full of energy today.
“Next up, we’ll play a guessing game,” announced the host, standing in the center of the room, holding a frog-shaped blindfold and placing it over her own eyes.
“The girls’ team will guess among the girls, and the boys’ team among the boys. Those who guess correctly will advance to the next round, where the boys and girls will guess each other!”
Xu Youyan’s ears perked up slightly at this. Wow, they’ve really thought of every angle for creating pairings.
Soon, a young girl was blindfolded, and the host drew a name card she had to guess Zheng Ya.
The girl sniffed each person one by one, even going so far as to feel a few faces with her hands. Xu Youyan’s makeup was nearly smudged in the process.
But in the end, she guessed wrong.
She hugged someone else, claiming it was Zheng Ya.
Just as Xu Youyan breathed a sigh of relief, the host handed the blindfold to her.
Xu Youyan obediently put on the blindfold, silently praying, Please don’t let it be that ice block.
However, the host’s gentle voice soon delivered the three dreaded syllables.
“Youyan has to guess Bo Zhoucheng, the acclaimed actress Bo!”
“Wow, this should be easy for Youyan, right? After all, you two are always sticking together,” the host hinted, and the guests in the audience joined in with teasing cheers.
Only Xu Youyan felt her heart sink. Oh no, oh no! What if I give myself away?
How could she possibly guess Bo Zhoucheng? They hadn’t even known each other for a month yet. In the past, they had kept their distance like sworn enemies, how could she possibly identify Bo just by scent and touch?
Still, Xu Youyan held onto a sliver of hope. Bo Zhoucheng often wore a cool, subtle fragrance and preferred loose-fitting clothes. Knowing these two traits, it shouldn’t be too hard to guess.
Her fingers trembling, Xu Youyan felt her way from person to person.
Soon, she found someone exuding that cool fragrance, dressed in loose clothing. Xu Youyan steeled herself, took a deep breath, and removed the blindfold.
“Bo Zhoucheng, I’ve caught you.”
But before she could finish her triumphant declaration, her expression turned to one of shock.
“Youyan, you guessed wrong,” Zheng Ya said with an awkward smile.
Xu Youyan stared at Zheng Ya in disbelief. Today, Zheng Ya was wearing an extremely loose-fitting blouse and had even spritzed on a hint of that cool fragrance.
Xu Youyan felt the world spin around her. For a moment, her legs went weak, and she nearly collapsed. Zheng Ya quickly stepped forward to support her.
“Youyan, are you okay? Are you feeling unwell?”
Xu Youyan felt like crying but had no tears. Physically, she was fine, but she knew it wouldn’t be long before that changed.
Stealing a furtive glance, she indeed saw Bo Zhoucheng’s furrowed brows, her eyes darkening like an approaching storm.
It seemed as though, at any moment, she would descend with biting winds and torrential rain.
Surprisingly, however, Bo Zhoucheng didn’t lose her temper throughout the entire day of filming.
Just as Xu Youyan began to think the other woman might let the matter slide, Bo Zhoucheng finally approached.
It happened in the dressing room backstage, a storage room in the guesthouse that had been temporarily converted. Xu Youyan had just finished the game and was about to change out of her costume.
As soon as she opened the storage room door, someone stepped in behind her.
The person reached out and embraced Xu Youyan. Xu Youyan thought she was being stalked by some creep on set and was about to scream, but when she looked down, she noticed the scars on the other person’s arm.
Xu Youyan couldn’t bring herself to scream.
“Yanyan.”
“You’ve shared a bed with me for so long there’s no way you wouldn’t recognize me. Did you guess wrong on purpose?”
Bo Zhoucheng’s voice carried a hint of questioning.
Bo Zhoucheng had always told herself she wasn’t jealous of Zheng Ya at all, but during today’s recording, Xu Youyan had wrapped her arms around someone else.
That made Bo Zhoucheng’s suspicion and jealousy grow like wild grass.
“No, Zheng Ya was wearing a perfume today that smells a lot like yours, so I mistook her for you.”
Xu Youyan was pressed against the cool wall, feeling a little scared.
“But you’ve never mistaken me before. Even when I was in plain costume, mixed in with hundreds of extras, you could spot me at a glance.”
“Why can’t you now?”
Bo Zhoucheng had no intention of letting her off, moving closer and closer.
Only heaven knew how wronged Xu Youyan felt. Not only had she inexplicably aged ten years, but now she had to endure this kind of interrogation.
“I’m really tired today.”
Xu Youyan felt extremely guilty and was about to evade the topic when her chin was gently held.
“Do you not like me anymore?”
Bo Zhoucheng asked the question again, and Xu Youyan’s heart seemed to stop. She felt inexplicably upset, as if she couldn’t breathe.
Was it this body that was suffering?
Xu Youyan shook her head.
“Then do you not love me as much?”
Xu Youyan felt guilty.
Bo Zhoucheng noticed her eyes unconsciously darting away a common sign of lying. A surge of overwhelming jealousy rose in Bo Zhoucheng’s heart.
“What’s so great about Zheng Ya?”
She took Xu Youyan’s hand and made her touch her own face.
“Is she prettier than me?”
That was really…
But when it came to looks, if Bo Zhoucheng claimed second place, no one would dare claim first.
“It’s not about Zheng Ya.”
Before Xu Youyan could finish, a cool fragrance drifted in the air, entwining around her, unyielding and persistent.
At first, Xu Youyan was bewildered, but after experiencing this a few times, she had grown somewhat accustomed to it.
She tried to push Bo Zhoucheng’s shoulders, but the other refused to let go. When Xu Youyan attempted to push her away again,
a faint, coppery taste of blood spread in her mouth.
“You.”
Before Xu Youyan could finish, Bo Zhoucheng pried her mouth open to look.
“I’m sorry.”
Seeing the small cut, Bo Zhoucheng’s heart ached. She held her close, apologizing over and over.
Xu Youyan was startled by her reaction, wondering to herself, What kind of girlfriend did my future self end up with?
She’s not afraid at all.
Just as she was about to say something comforting, the dressing room door was knocked on.
“Hey, is anyone in there?”
“I need to change this costume is stuffy. Can you hurry up?”
The woman’s voice was loud and urgent.
Bo Zhoucheng let go, straightened Xu Youyan’s disheveled collar, and then opened the door.
“Hey, I told you to open the door.”
The woman’s words trailed off as she froze, meeting a pair of frosty eyes that made her feel as if she’d been plunged into the depths of winter.
“If someone is changing, don’t bang on the door so hard. You’ll scare them.”
Bo Zhoucheng’s voice was icy, and coupled with her tall stature, she exuded an invisible sense of oppression. The girl who had knocked on the door was terrified.
Only then did Bo Zhoucheng turn around and lead the person standing in the dressing room out.
Xu Youyan lowered her head and apologized to the girl.
“Sorry to keep you waiting.”
Her lipstick was smudged, making it look as though someone had mistreated her.
