The CEO Omega’s 'Soft Rice' Alpha - Chapter 61
Chapter 61
The stone bridge spanning the river was wide, but with so many tourists, it felt congested. Su Yi’an followed closely behind Lan Yan, carefully shielding her from the jostling crowd. The colorful lanterns and the moonlight created an ethereal beauty.
Beauty, a beautiful woman it was enough to pull at anyone’s heartstrings.
The surrounding noise, however, was a bit too boisterous, threatening to ruin the moment. Su Yi’an remained unaffected; in her eyes, there was only the woman walking ahead. Every step Lan Yan took felt like a gentle footfall on Su Yi’an’s heart, making her pulse thrum louder than the festive sounds around them.
As the world blurred, Su Yi’an instinctively reached out, wanting to grasp the hand that had been swaying before her eyes for so long.
A summer breeze blew, carrying leaves onto the bridge. A tiny leaf, no bigger than a thumb, landed softly on Lan Yan’s head. She didn’t notice, busy trying to tidy her long hair which had been ruffled by the wind.
Su Yi’an, whose gaze never left her, saw it clearly. Her hand changed course; instead of reaching for Lan Yan’s hand, she reached up and gently plucked the leaf from her hair.
Click.
Unnoticed by either of them, someone nearby captured this scene on camera. Even through their masks, the atmosphere of tender affection was undeniable. With their wolf and rabbit masks, they looked like the perfect “CP” (couple); no one would doubt they were lovers.
“Mommy, Daddy, look! Fireflies!”
A mischievous child broke free from his parents’ grip, pointing at the dark sky and sprinting across the bridge. He accidentally bumped into Lan Yan, shattering the silent warmth between the two women.
Lan Yan swayed but was unharmed. The child, however, tumbled to the ground and burst into tears. People began to stare.
“I’m sorry… are you okay?” Facing a crying four-year-old, Lan Yan was at a loss.
Su Yi’an retracted the hand she had used to steady Lan Yan and stepped forward to help the child up.
“Hey! Are you blind? You’re a grown adult!” the child’s parents snapped. They were an unreasonable couple, rudely snatching the boy away and immediately launching into accusations.
The child cried harder, and the bustling bridge fell quiet as the couple’s rudeness drew glares from the crowd. Su Yi’an’s eyes narrowed, her voice turning cold. “He ran into her. We’re being generous by not asking you for compensation.”
Even as she spoke, she didn’t forget to shield Lan Yan behind her.
Lan Yan stared at the little Alpha, suddenly finding her “Rabbit” quite tall and imposing. She had always associated youth with immaturity, but she had never seen a trace of it in Su Yi’an. Aside from being quiet and shy, the girl was far more mature than her peers.
A clever, obedient Rabbit. The thought made Lan Yan smile behind her mask, her eyes crinkling with a sudden, fleeting tenderness.
The crowd began to chime in against the parents. “You didn’t watch your kid, and now you’re blaming the lady?” “We saw it; the kid ran right into her.” “She even apologized! You parents are less sensible than the child.”
Faced with public shaming, the couple slunk away in embarrassment.
“Sister, did you get hurt…” Su Yi’an’s cold gaze softened as she turned back. She met Lan Yan’s focused stare, and her face instantly flushed red, the rest of her sentence dying in her throat.
Lan Yan was embarrassed to be caught staring, but seeing the little Alpha turn back into a shy “white rabbit” was inexplicably cute. She felt a sudden urge to rua (pet/squeeze) her. She suppressed the impulse with a sigh.
“I’m fine. Let’s go.” Lan Yan reached out her hand.
She told herself she was just being careful because of the crowd. It would be a pity if such a sweet Rabbit got lost and fell into the hands of some “bad sister.” But when Su Yi’an’s slightly warm hand slid into her palm, Lan Yan felt a jolt—like a star suddenly appearing in a dark sky.
Despite her mental defenses, Lan Yan realized they were being far too intimate. It was a heart-pounding sensation more intense than when she had been marked.
Maybe I’m the ‘bad sister,’ Lan Yan thought, her eyelashes fluttering as she looked at their joined hands. She could feel Su Yi’an’s nervousness; the girl’s palm was slightly damp with sweat. It wasn’t unpleasant, but it made Lan Yan’s own neck throb with a strange, itchy sensation.
As they walked off the bridge and away from the crowds, the silence made the physical contact feel even more electric. Neither wanted to let go. In fact, Su Yi’an gripped tighter, their sweat mingling. It was a sensation Lan Yan had never experienced in her life.
If this was love, neither had spoken it. Su Yi’an felt she was far more cowardly than the bold Chen Zhi. But as she often thought: it wasn’t fear, it was love. She wanted things to happen naturally, afraid that too much heat would scare her Sister away.
They stood by the river, watching the festivities. Occasionally, they saw young couples kissing, and their joined hands would tremble as they awkwardly looked away.
Slowly, they leaned closer. Just as Su Yi’an’s eyes were about to flutter shut, He Xia’s booming voice echoed from a distance: “Little Aunt! Little Su! Where are you? Come watch the fireworks!”
The spell was broken. Su Yi’an’s hot breath brushed Lan Yan’s face as she regretfully looked at the lips that had been inches away. She released Lan Yan’s hand and fixed her mask for her. “Sister, do you want to see the fireworks?”
Lan Yan nodded, using the fireworks as an excuse to hide her flustered state. She thought Su Yi’an liked the spectacle, while Su Yi’an only wanted to experience “romantic things” with her Sister.
After the fireworks, it was nearly midnight. Most people were heading back to rest for the 5:00 AM hike to see the sunrise on Mt. Miao.
As they gathered to leave, Lan Yin appeared, followed by Chen Zhi—who had a conspicuous bump on her forehead. Chen Zhi was wearing a cold expression that looked unintentionally hilarious.
Su Yi’an glanced at her niece. Did Chen Zhi try to force a kiss and get punched? No, Lan Yin didn’t seem the type. But Chen Zhi, that “emotional idiot” who only knew how to brag, was bound to run into trouble with her aggressive “Movie Queen” pursuit tactics.
Chen Zhi caught Su Yi’an’s look but didn’t think she was in the wrong. She was a bit too arrogant, emboldened by Lan Yin’s previous “compliance.” She didn’t realize that while Lan Yin was soft, she wasn’t a pushover.
Lan Yan looked at Chen Zhi with concern. “Movie Queen Chen, your head?”
“The scenery was nice… I stayed late,” Chen Zhi said stiffly. “I wasn’t paying attention and bumped my head.”
She had actually hit her head on a rock while trying to retrieve a drawing for Lan Yin. She suspected Lan Yin had “accidentally” let the drawing fly toward the slippery riverbank on purpose, but she couldn’t prove it. Chen Zhi was frustrated; in the movies, the first meeting is a kiss, the second is a confession, and the third is marriage. Why was she failing now?
“Little Aunt, let’s go back,” Lan Yin said with a sweet, gentle smile. Chen Zhi felt something was off—as an actress, she felt like she was being “out-acted” by her own girlfriend.
As the group walked back, He Xia and the others chatted excitedly about the “Ghost Hole” on the mountain path a shallow but tricky pit that was easy to fall into in the dark.
Near the hostel, Lan Yan stopped. Her pheromones were acting up not a full loss of control, but a restless thrumming that made her crave Su Yi’an’s scent.
“Come with me to the car,” Lan Yan said, leading Su Yi’an to a secluded spot.
Su Yi’an’s heart raced. In the car? Is Sister so out of control that she wants to… She swallowed hard, her own pheromones beginning to leak.
But when they sat down, Lan Yan simply handed her a box of grapes. “Didn’t you say you liked them? Here.”
Su Yi’an: “…” The ‘grapes’ I want to eat aren’t these ones.
Still, she took them obediently. Lan Yan smiled. Truly a good Rabbit.
“Go rest,” Lan Yan said. They sat in silence for a few minutes until their pheromones stabilized before entering the hostel.
That night, Lan Yan slept soundly, but Su Yi’an was plagued by insomnia.
At 4:30 AM, the group set off for Mt. Miao. The path was steep and treacherous. Because Su Yi’an hadn’t slept, she was unsteady on her feet. Lan Yan, worried, kept all her attention on the girl.
Because she was so focused on Su Yi’an, Lan Yan didn’t look where she was going. With a sudden gasp, she slipped into the “Ghost Hole.” Without a second thought, Su Yi’an lunged after her, falling into the darkness as well.
