The CEO Omega’s 'Soft Rice' Alpha - Chapter 12
Chapter 12
“Lan Yin.”
A voice cool as autumn water drifted through the air as the person in the car finally revealed herself.
Her features were delicate yet distant, with dark, slightly curled hair cascading over her shoulders. Dressed in a black, slim-fit professional suit, she exuded an air of mature, repressed elegance.
“Sister Lan, so this is your young aunt?” the girl standing beside Lan Yin whispered. “If I didn’t know better, I’d think she was your sister. She’s so beautiful!”
Lan Yin nodded. Although she wasn’t looking forward to the lecture she was about to receive, she spoke obediently: “Young Aunt, why are you here?”
Clack. Clack. Clack.
The sound of high heels was exceptionally sharp in the quiet night, as if dancing directly on everyone’s heartstrings. Along with the sound came an incredibly powerful, oppressive aura.
“Hello, Auntie!”
“Sister!”
Several girls and Su Yi’an spoke at the same time. Su Yi’an’s “Sister” was jarringly out of place.
Everyone looked at her, including Lan Yan. Having just met at the bar at noon, Lan Yan was genuinely surprised to see her again—especially with her own niece.
If I hadn’t had her background checked after I got back today, I would have thought she was approaching me on purpose, Lan Yan thought. But the investigation showed Su Yi’an’s background was clean. It was likely just a coincidence; after all, they attended the same university, so it wasn’t strange for them to meet.
Lan Yan smiled faintly at her own suspicious nature. “Mm.” She nodded slightly. “I heard you saved Lan Yin. Thank you.”
Lan Yan had already received a full report from the bodyguards. While she was annoyed at Lan Yin for ditching her security, she was a reasonable person. It was a blessing that no harm had been done, and as an elder, she had to observe the proper etiquette.
She had heard that an Alpha had saved her niece—one against four drunks—and had come out unscathed. There were only two Alphas here. Su Yi’an looked delicate and frail, so Lan Yan assumed the other one, He Xia, was the hero.
Lan Yan glanced at Su Yi’an briefly before shifting her gaze to He Xia.
Su Yi’an’s face flushed under the collective gaze. She couldn’t bring herself to follow the other students in calling her “Auntie.” She had “other” intentions for Sister Grape; calling her “Sister” was a form of flirtation, but “Auntie”… that just wouldn’t work.
She had initially thought Lan Yin was Sister Grape’s sister, but it turned out she was the aunt. She had approached Lan Yin today hoping for a lead, never expecting to see Sister Grape again so soon.
Su Yi’an was nervous—inexplicably so. Both her heart and the glands at the back of her neck were throbbing. The faint scent of mango and wine began to drift into the air, with the wine scent showing signs of taking over.
Standing closest, He Xia caught the scent, which felt pungent to her. “Whoa, Xiao Su, are you going into your rut?”
The group’s direct stares landed on Su Yi’an again. Lan Yin and the other girls blushed.
Lan Yan’s brow twitched, and she instinctively took a step back. Her own pheromones were constantly on the verge of a breakdown; even suppressants and blocking patches weren’t very effective. She absolutely could not get near an Alpha in their rut, or the consequences would be unpredictable.
Seeing Lan Yan’s avoidant movement, Su Yi’an hurriedly covered the back of her neck. “No! I might have gotten a small injury earlier, so the scent is just a bit stronger!”
She had simply been moved by the sight of Sister Grape, and when triggered by Lan Yan’s own faint pheromones, she had momentarily lost her composure. Even without her blocking patch, her willpower as a martial artist was enough to endure a rut, let alone now. She usually carried these things just to protect herself from others.
He Xia wanted to point out that Su Yi’an hadn’t seemed injured during the fight, nor had her pheromones acted up then. But seeing Su Yi’an’s clear-eyed gaze—nothing like an Alpha lost to instinct—she let it go.
Alpha pheromones fluctuate when their emotions are unstable. If she were really in heat, she’d have pounced on these pretty Omegas already, He Xia reasoned. Maybe she’s just embarrassed because she used the wrong title.
Lan Yin’s aunt really did have a powerful aura. It was normal for Su Yi’an to be intimidated; even He Xia felt like a high schooler meeting the headmaster. It was strange—the aunt and niece shared a similar face, but one felt cold and ruthless while the other was gentle and warm.
Su Yi’an’s explanation made some feel relieved, while others felt a strange sense of disappointment.
Lan Yan was the one who was relieved, though she didn’t show it. She looked at Su Yi’an with a seemingly casual glance. “Injured?”
“Yes, yes!” He Xia nodded. “Auntie, it was Xiao Su who saved us just now. She studied martial arts before!”
“Oh?” Lan Yan’s gaze dropped subtly to Su Yi’an’s fair, slender arms. This was unexpected. Before and now, Su Yi’an had always felt clean, green, and fragile to her.
Lan Yan didn’t dwell on it. It was late. She had been asked by her eldest cousin, Lan Feng (who was abroad), to check on his daughter. Since Lan Yin was fine, it was time to go. She was exhausted. As for her naughty niece, her parents would deal with her; Lan Yan just needed to file the report.
Out of politeness, Lan Yan said to the group, “Thank you. Are you hungry? How about I treat everyone to a late-night snack?”
There was a night market near the police station. It was only right for an elder to treat these students after such an ordeal. Of course, she assumed they were full after the hotpot and would decline.
Lan Yan understood social cues and expected a refusal. She was surprised when the girl she’d met a few times spoke up first.
“Actually, I am a bit hungry. Thank you for the trouble, Sister!”
He Xia’s jaw dropped. If she remembered correctly, her roommate had just said she wasn’t hungry and barely ate anything at the restaurant. Now she was hungry? Was it really because the fight burned too many calories?
Lan Yin looked thoughtful. The other girls simply went with the flow. Tomorrow was a day off, and the night was young; they wanted to spend more time with this Senior Su anyway.
Lan Yan’s smile stiffened slightly. She stared at the girl for a moment. “…No trouble at all. It’s the least I can do.”
