The CEO Omega’s 'Soft Rice' Alpha - Chapter 10
Chapter 10
“Mm.”
What did “Mm” mean? Did Sister Grape mind or not mind?
Back at the apartment, Su Yi’an sat at her desk staring at the screen for a full half-hour. Even though her mind was a mess and she was feeling incredibly anxious about the outcome, her expression remained cold and solemn. Anyone looking at her would have thought some major crisis had occurred.
He Xia, who had been observing her for a long time, finally couldn’t help but speak up. “What’s wrong? Did the interview fail? It’s no big deal; just find another one.”
Su Yi’an turned off her phone and shook her head. She picked up a grape, meticulously peeled it, sniffed its scent first, and then popped it into her mouth. With a gentle bite, the juice burst forth. She closed her eyes in pleasure, looking as if she were eating the world’s sweetest honey rather than the sour grapes she’d actually bought.
If He Xia hadn’t tasted those grapes herself and known how sour they were, she would have been fooled.
“You really like grapes?” He Xia asked.
For someone so poor they had to find a part-time job just to eat, she found it incredible that Su Yi’an had returned from an interview and bought two pounds of grapes—even if they were the extra-sour, three-yuan-a-pound cheap ones sold at the school gate. Was her roommate eating grapes as a meal replacement? She had nearly finished all two pounds.
While it was cheaper than a full meal, grapes weren’t filling. It wouldn’t have cost much more to get something decent at the school cafeteria. He Xia couldn’t understand her roommate’s mysterious behavior.
“You could say that.” Su Yi’an breathed in the grape scent surrounding her, feeling as if she were already embracing the person she wanted to hold.
Grapes = Sister Grape.
As she finished the last one, the late-onset sourness finally hit her teeth. She stood up, went to the water dispenser, and downed a cup of water to wash away the acidity. The cheap stuff from the school gate wasn’t nearly as sweet as the ones she’d bought before, and far less sweet than Sister Grape, but it served its purpose of quenching her thirst.
The water dispenser was provided by He Xia. It was authentic mountain spring water—naturally cool and sweet, and significantly more expensive than regular mineral water. Su Yi’an found it refreshing and poured a second cup. Those grapes really were incredibly sour. Without realizing it, she had filled her stomach with two pounds of them.
Seeing this, He Xia felt a wave of pity. “It’s almost dinner time. I heard a new beef hotpot place opened outside the school. Want to come with me and try it?”
Forced to eat sour grapes to save a few bucks… what kind of family background does she have? He Xia thought. She decided she would help this roommate whenever possible.
Su Yi’an looked at the setting sun outside and declined. “You go. I’m not hungry.” She disliked rain, intense sun, and eating hotpot in sweltering weather—it meant sweating and getting smells stuck in her clothes. Besides, she really wasn’t hungry after the grapes. It was 6:00 PM; it wasn’t a good time for more food.
Of course, if Sister Grape invited her, that would be a different story.
“Come on, come on! Think of it as roommate bonding,” He Xia insisted, stepping forward to grab her. She was stopped in her tracks by a sudden chill radiating from Su Yi’an. She sheepishly withdrew her hand. “I heard our two ‘Campus Flowers,’ Lan Yin and Jiang Dong, are going. Let’s go take a look!”
“I’ve only heard about them in the freshman group chats; I haven’t seen them in person yet. They say they’re beautiful, and both are S-class Omegas. Just come with me… who knows, maybe a Campus Flower likes an honest type like me?”
“I heard Lan Yin’s family is very rich. You’re so good-looking—if she takes a liking to you, you won’t have to struggle for the rest of your life! Let’s go try our luck. Besides, you only had grapes and water this afternoon. Won’t you be hungry later?”
He Xia’s relentless chatter showed no signs of stopping. Her head throbbing, Su Yi’an finally stood up. “Fine. Let’s go.”
Rich? Her father was the richest man in America, and her own earnings were more than enough. No matter how rich this girl was, could she be richer than Su Yi’an? Richer than Sister Grape?
In the past, Su Yi’an would have thrown her out, but she couldn’t now. She was supposed to be an inexperienced poor student; she couldn’t let her relationship with her peers get too sour.
He Xia immediately shut up, grabbed her wallet, and happily led Su Yi’an out. Helping people isn’t easy these days, she thought. But she truly wanted to see the legendary Campus Flowers and needed someone to boost her courage.
The beef hotpot restaurant was less than 500 meters from the school. It had opened a week ago and was currently offering big discounts. Combined with the good taste and peak dinner hours, the place was packed.
They waited for over an hour. Su Yi’an’s temper began to simmer, and her stomach, previously full of grapes, was starting to feel genuinely hungry.
“Wow, look! That female Alpha waiting at the door is gorgeous!”
“I wonder if she’s a student here. Go ask for her number in a bit.”
“Why don’t we just invite her in to eat with us?”
“Sister Lan, what do you think?”
Inside the restaurant, sitting by the window waiting for their food, several female Omegas were stealing glances at Su Yi’an outside, whispering and giggling.
As a top-tier Alpha, Su Yi’an’s mental perception was incredibly sharp. Having trained in martial arts in her previous life, she heard every word clearly. Her expression turned dark. She turned to leave.
Just then, He Xia returned from buying drinks. She handed a chilled grape juice to Su Yi’an, trying to placate her. “Hey, I know it’s been a long wait, but we’re almost next. Let’s stay, since we’re already here.”
“Look, the one sitting in the middle of that group by the window, the one not talking—that’s Lan Yin. Isn’t she beautiful? No Alpha could refuse an Omega like her. Right, Xiao Su?”
Since learning Su Yi’an was a year younger than her, He Xia had naturally switched to calling her “Xiao Su” (Little Su), regardless of whether Su Yi’an agreed.
After a sip of the chilled grape juice, Su Yi’an’s mood finally improved. She looked toward the woman He Xia was pointing at.
One look, and Su Yi’an choked. Grape juice splashed onto her white T-shirt.
“Cough, cough…” She let out a muffled cough, her eyes watering and her face flushing a light pink, making her look even more vivid.
This Lan Yin… why does she look so much like Sister Grape? They shared the same surname, too. Could she be Sister Grape’s sister? If she was a future sister-in-law, it would be worth getting to know her. Maybe she could dig up some of Sister Grape’s secret likes and dislikes.
Deciding her course of action, Su Yi’an walked straight toward Lan Yin.
Her approach caused a flurry of quiet screams among the girls around Lan Yin. “She’s coming over! Is she interested in one of us? Sister Lan, you can’t steal this one from us!”
He Xia was stunned and hurriedly chased after her. “Xiao Su! Wait for me!”
She was now certain: her new roommate wasn’t just a grape addict; she was a bold, impulsive lover of beauty.
