- The Cannon Fodder Went Out Of Character Again Today
- Chapter 8 - Would You Like to Come to My Dormitory for a While?
This perhaps was the spark generated by the very first meeting between the male protagonists.
Watching the two of them argue endlessly, Xu Qiduo actually felt a bizarre sense of satisfaction.
It was that kind of feeling: seeing a plotline that he had pushed forward with his own two hands, how should he put it, gave him a bit of pride, too.
He tugged on the sleeve of the person beside him and whispered quietly, “Help me back to the dorm so I can change my clothes.”
Xu Qiduo had taken quite a tumble with those two falls, and he was limping as he walked.
Perhaps due to some irresistible force of the plot, the two tall guys just walked right out of the cafeteria, and neither of the protagonists noticed.
By the time He Jin remembered Xu Qiduo, there was no one left behind them. Only the lingering soup stains on the floor proved that someone had indeed fallen there earlier.
Cafeteria No. 3 was quite a distance from Xu Qiduo’s dorm, which was why he usually did not go out of his way to eat there. Walking the whole way at least helped ease the throbbing pain in his tailbone a little bit.
Along the way, trying to break the awkward silence, Xu Qiduo proactively initiated a topic with Zhou Mengxing: “Are you heading home this weekend? You should be, right? After all, it counts as your first time going home.”
Zhou Mengxing was as cold as ever: “Yes.”
“I am going back too. Let’s take my car this Friday. What time does your class end?”
Zhou Mengxing didn’t answer at first. Only after Xu Qiduo cast a questioning look his way did he slowly reply, “I only have one morning lecture on Friday.”
“My morning is full, so wait until my class finishes, and we will leave together at noon.”
After walking for a while, the discomfort from the fall had largely dissipated. Xu Qiduo felt that being supported like this was a bit strange, so he patted the hands that were still holding him under the arms and said, “Alright, alright, I can walk on my own now.”
Zhou Mengxing decisively withdrew his hands.
Actually, the two of them could have parted ways right here, but out of habitual politeness, Xu Qiduo threw out an extra sentence: “It is still early, do you want to come to my dorm to hang out for a while?”
This was really just standard social courtesy. Ordinarily, familiar classmates meeting on the road would say things like that, for example: No classes, come hang out in my dorm for a bit; still early, come watch a movie at my place; or let’s go play games in my room together.
However, Xu Qiduo and Zhou Mengxing had not reached that level of familiarity yet.
He had expected Zhou Mengxing to refuse, given the persona the other guy had displayed, but to his surprise, Zhou Mengxing agreed on the spot.
Xu Qiduo’s dormitory was on the third floor, room 316.
It was currently lunchtime, so nobody else was in the room.
After bringing him into the dorm, Xu Qiduo pointed to his bed and said, “Sit over there, that’s my spot. I’m going to take a shower first, if you’re bored you can find a movie to watch or play some games.”
As Xu Qiduo was grabbing clothes from his closet, he suddenly remembered something: “Oh right, did you finish eating your meal?”
When he had first spotted Zhou Mengxing, the guy was eating, though he had no idea if he was done. Later, because his rear end hurt so much, he had dragged the guy back to help him. What if the poor kid had been dragged away before he could finish eating?
“I finished.”
“I have some snacks in my drawer. If you’re still hungry, just help yourself. If there’s nothing in the drawer, check my cabinet. Don’t be polite, alright, I’m going to take a shower first.” Having grease and soup residue clinging to his body was something Xu Qiduo had endured for long enough.
With that, he hurried off toward the bathroom.
The dormitory instantly grew quiet, and soon, the sound of running water drifted out from the bathroom.
Zhou Mengxing stood motionless for a long while, simply staring blankly into empty space, unsure of what he was looking at.
