- Chapter 7 - The First Meeting of the Male Leads
Have you ever witnessed a slow-motion scene where vegetable leaves, bones, and rice flew through the air all at once?
Xu Qiduo had certainly seen it! Not only had he seen it, but he was living through it right at this very moment!
Watching a piece of bone flying through the air follow the laws of gravity straight toward his face, he was completely unable to stop it due to his body losing its balance.
After a heavy thud echoed through the air, the cafeteria fell silent for a fraction of a second before erupting into a noisy commotion.
“Classmate, are you okay?” Appearing before Xu Qiduo’s eyes next was an exquisite, slightly baby-faced visage.
Xu Qiduo was in no mood to appreciate the protagonist shou’s good looks at close range right now, especially since his tailbone was throbbing with pain.
He Jin bent down, reaching out a hand to help Xu Qiduo, who had been knocked flat on the floor.
The next second, however, someone grabbed He Jin by the arm and jerked him back up.
“If he takes a spill, he can just crawl back up himself. Do you really need to help him?” that person remarked.
“What kind of attitude is that, classmate?” He Jin clearly disapproved of the person’s words, and after wrenching his arm free, he bent down to pull Xu Qiduo up again.
Yet he was stopped once more by the person behind him.
“What kind of attitude? Shouldn’t people get back up on their own when they fall? Xu Qiduo, are you incapable of standing up on your own?” The tone carried three parts disdain, three parts mockery, and four parts condescension, sounding almost like someone giving commands to a puppy.
Xu Qiduo rolled his eyes hard in his mind, but his words remained thoroughly compliant: “I can, I can get up myself.”
“See? Can’t he get up just fine?” Wang Shuo stood there and added another line.
This attitude naturally and instantly caught He Jin’s attention: “If you’re his friend, why won’t you give him a hand? What kind of person are you!”
“He’s not a toddler. Does he need his mommy to hold his hand every time he trips?”
“You are just arguing for the sake of arguing and completely twisting logic.”
The System: [Main quest completed. Plot proceeding smoothly. Great job, host! From here on out, just maintain your character persona and avoid going OOC. The system will promptly remind you before the next major plot segment begins!]
Accompanied by a soft electronic chime, Xu Qiduo knew the system had logged off.
Fine, fine. As long as the plot progressed smoothly, his accidental tumble wasn’t for nothing.
Xu Qiduo propped himself up on his arms, getting ready to stand, when his hand brushed against some spilled vegetable soup. His palm slipped, and with a dull thud, he face-planted right back down.
Seriously, could you two stop arguing for a second? Protagonist shou, turn around and look! Someone just took another spill.
With his elbows bearing the full weight of his body, Xu Qiduo grimaced in pain.
Just as he finished wincing, Xu Qiduo’s gaze locked onto another pair of eyes.
Hey! Isn’t this the culprit who caused him to fall in the first place?
Using his free hand planted on the ground, Xu Qiduo gave Zhou Mengxing a difficult wave.
Zhou Mengxing paused for a moment before standing up, walking past the two still bickering figures, and coming right up to Xu Qiduo’s side.
As Zhou Mengxing crouched down, Xu Qiduo whispered in a low voice: “Hey man, hurry up and help me up. I can’t get back up.”
“See? Isn’t he getting up right now?” Wang Shuo stood nearby, lifting his chin toward Xu Qiduo while speaking directly to He Jin.
He Jin immediately turned around with a look of concern: “Are you alright, classmate?”
“I’m fine, totally fine. It was my fault for not watching where I was walking, sorry.” Xu Qiduo apologized.
Although he had intentionally tried to bump into He Jin earlier, this particular mishap had happened completely by accident. Credit where credit was due, it really was caused by him not watching his step.
“Acting like he has no eyes.” Wang Shuo’s constant petty sniping left He Jin feeling utterly bewildered.
He Jin retorted speechlessly, “If you don’t know how to talk like a normal person, you can just keep quiet.”
