- Chapter 6 - This Young Master Opens the Novel's Chapter
Outside the exquisite hollow window lattice, the scenery was breathtakingly beautiful.
Willows intertwined with rockeries in an antique style, and even the stream flowing through the courtyard was made of living water.
The scene here felt almost unrealistically picturesque.
The memory of the old, dilapidated residential building and the dim, alcohol-soaked room flashed briefly across his mind.
Zhou Mengxing walked closer to the window and caught sight of Xu Qiduo’s retreating figure as he left the courtyard.
Ever since Xu Min had arranged for him to enroll in N University, he had kept an ear out for rumors regarding anyone bearing the Xu surname.
He had not expected to run into the main character himself today.
Seeing Xu Qiduo turn around and head back before even leaving the courtyard gates, Zhou Mengxing took a step back and turned to face the bedroom door.
A moment later, the door pushed open again, and Xu Qiduo walked in, though his attention remained fixed on the phone in his hand.
Without raising his eyes and still tapping away at his cards, Xu Qiduo muttered, “Forget it, forget it. I might as well wait and go back with you.”
” financiero If you have things to do, go ahead first.” Zhou Mengxing had no desire to get too entangled with Xu Qiduo.
He had a clear plan on what to do to completely shake off his past and live in peace within the Xu family.
“I don’t have anything to do. Second Dad told me to look after you anyway, so I can’t just ditch you on your very first day.” Xu Qiduo had just won tens of thousands of beans in a match of Dou Dizhu, and his mood naturally improved.
He finally looked up, but seeing Zhou Mengxing still standing in the exact same spot, he felt a bit puzzled and asked, “Are you staying here tonight?”
Zhou Mengxing shook his head without a word.
“Are you taking these suitcases to school? If so, should I call the driver?” Xu Qiduo was acting a bit too enthusiastically.
Zhou Mengxing lowered his gaze to suppress the wariness rising in his heart, replying with a hint of coolness, “These were all prepared by Auntie.”
“Can I take a look?”
“Look at what?”
“What Second Mom prepared for you, of course.”
Prying into someone else’s belongings was a very impolite act, but Zhou Mengxing answered anyway, “Go ahead.”
“I’m just curious.” Xu Qiduo said as he laid the suitcase flat.
Opening it, he found only a regular assortment of clothes and daily necessities. It was as normal as normal could be.
He found it somewhat hard to believe.
Even though Second Mom had cursed him out as a little brat while clashing with Third Aunt just moments earlier, she had arranged everything so meticulously behind the scenes.
Without a shred of hesitation, he stood up and pulled open the wardrobe in Zhou Mengxing’s room. Seeing that all the hanging clothes still had their price tags attached and belonged to designer brands, he pulled out his phone and snapped a photo.
His original intention was simply to share some gossip with Xu Duoduo, but from Zhou Mengxing’s perspective, this behavior felt like a novel form of humiliation.
Knowing he lacked the capability to fight back at the moment, Zhou Mengxing chose to accept it silently.
He accepted Xu Qiduo’s proposal to return to campus together, accepted Xu Qiduo’s request for his contact information, and then left directly without uttering another word.
He knew Xu Qiduo was only escorting him back to campus because of Uncle Xu’s instructions.
How could a young master born with a silver spoon in his mouth ever look down upon someone like him?
N University was massive, so it was completely normal for two students from different departments and years never to cross paths, just as it was normal if they did happen to meet.
On Thursday, the system logged on ahead of schedule and abruptly announced that the male protagonist He Jin had returned to school after completing a competition.
His very first indispensable plot requirement was to orchestrate the initial encounter between the two male leads, thereby officially kicking off the novel’s main plotline.
Why on earth did this crappy novel require him, a young master, to personally drive the plot forward?
The System: [At this point, all you need to do is carry your meal tray and accidentally bump into He Jin. Wang Shuo will naturally show up right after, and you can just let the plot take its course from there.]
Xu Qiduo: [Easier said than done. You tell me how I am supposed to accidentally bump into He Jin in a cafeteria aisle this wide?]
The System: [That depends on your skills.]
Guided by the system’s directions, Xu Qiduo spotted He Jin waiting in the food line.
As the protagonist of a novel, no elaborate description was needed; anyone who immediately caught the eye in a crowd was bound to be him.
With only two people left ahead of him in line, Xu Qiduo hurriedly shoved two more mouthfuls of food into his mouth. Seeing He Jin pick up his tray and begin searching for a seat, Xu Qiduo immediately grabbed his unfinished tray and stood up.
He had already mapped out the whole scenario. As he crossed paths with He Jin, he would cleverly fake a slip of the foot, let out an accidental cry of surprise as he crashed into He Jin, and then clumsily knock over his dishes. The whole sequence of events would look completely logical and natural!
Then Wang Shuo would make his grand entrance, and he could slink away like a coward, keeping his achievements hidden in anonymity!
Thinking of this, Xu Qiduo sped up his pace.
Yet, by sheer coincidence, a sideways glance caught sight of Zhou Mengxing eating in the cafeteria.
At that exact moment, Zhou Mengxing raised his head, and the instant their eyes met, that gender-ambiguous face dealt a fierce blow to his eyes and brain.
Especially since Zhou Mengxing was wearing a blue jacket today, and the overhead cafeteria lights shining down on him made his entire figure seem to radiate a gentle glow.
He seemed to see Zhou Mengxing’s lips move slightly.
Was he saying something?
What was he saying?
Suddenly, he felt a heavy impact on his left shoulder, followed by a violent sway of the tray in his arms as soup splashed across the back of his hand. Instinctively raising his head to look, his foot lost its footing entirely.
Well, this time he really did slip for real!
