- Chapter 30 - Cannon Fodder Ex-Boyfriend 30, Can You Return My Brother to Me?
Bean-sized raindrops clattered against the roof of the car. After the driver took an umbrella and stepped out, the lights inside the cabin were completely extinguished.
As the brightness faded into dimness, Li Qingran’s figure in Gu Shiyu’s eyes became blurred.
For a moment, Gu Shiyu could not capture the expression on Li Qingran’s face at all. He could only see large patches of pale skin. Following the scent of ice and snow pheromones, his gaze slid down to the collar, which had been torn open by someone at some point. The scent of a blizzard spread out as the black fabric draped over both shoulders, revealing thin yet deep collarbones. At the same time, it presented two dark-colored “strawberries” planted there right before Gu Shiyu’s eyes.
Gu Shiyu’s body, which had been softening under Li Qingran’s touch, suddenly went rigid. He stared at Li Qingran in disbelief. “You,”
Li Qingran blinked. “What about me?”
“You and Jiang Siran,”
Gu Shiyu found himself unable to say the rest. He didn’t want to say it either. Fundamentally, he was unwilling to believe, and even more unwilling to admit, that Li Qingran might have had an intimate encounter with Jiang Siran.
In the dimly lit car, the Alpha on top showed a trace of inner conflict. Conversely, the Alpha on the bottom—who, from their posture, looked to be suppressed—tilted his head slightly. His face was calm, and his grey eyes were full of a frankness so clear that Gu Shiyu suspected he had intentionally let him see the marks on his neck.
The fingers pressing against Li Qingran’s cheek tightened unconsciously. Gu Shiyu leaned closer to him.
“Was it intentional?”
Li Qingran laughed. “Which part are you referring to?”
The question thrown out was tossed right back. Not only was the issue not resolved, but another layer of fog was added to the original problem.
Gu Shiyu instinctively wanted to bite his lip, using the sting of pain to stay calm. However, he forgot that Li Qingran’s finger was still pressing against his canine tooth. As he applied pressure, the sharp tip pierced the soft finger pad. Almost instantly, it broke through the fragile skin. A scent of blood mixed with ice and snow immediately spread through Gu Shiyu’s mouth. Like a spark, it made his throat feel parched in an instant.
He uncontrollably wanted to suck in more liquid to soothe the dry itch in his throat. But before he could fully wrap his lips around the Alpha’s finger to use his tongue to draw out more, Li Qingran withdrew his hand.
“Are you a dog?” Li Qingran gently rubbed the small puncture wound on his finger pad with his thumb. It didn’t actually hurt much, but he still knit his brows. His thumb, stained with a bit of transparent fluid, rubbed against Gu Shiyu’s cheek. His slow, soft voice sounded like a warning, or perhaps it carried a hidden meaning as it rang in Gu Shiyu’s ear.
“I won’t like anything that makes me feel pain,”
Pain from what?
Li Qingran didn’t say. The answer rolled around on the tip of his tongue before being hidden away again. The finger that had been incessantly smearing something on Gu Shiyu’s cheek was withdrawn along with the unspoken words.
Gu Shiyu’s emotions grew more frantic.
“I didn’t mean it!”
He reached out and grabbed Li Qingran’s retreating hand. His warm tongue licked the faint wound over and over. At this moment, he felt as if he had returned to a primitive world. His blank mind couldn’t think of a better way to treat the injury, so he could only rely on this clumsy method to pray for the wound to heal faster.
“I didn’t want to bite you,” Gu Shiyu explained. His voice was slightly muffled because his mouth was busy with other tasks. “I just wanted to clear my head, but I forgot your hand was in my mouth. I bit it by accident.”
“I’m sorry,” Gu Shiyu said, suddenly dropping to one knee between Li Qingran’s legs. He lowered his head and his gaze, yet his mouth continued to voice his pleas to the Alpha.
“Why don’t you punish me? As long as it makes you stop being angry, you can punish me however you want.”
Again, it was “punishment.”
Li Qingran couldn’t help but laugh out loud at those words. “You Alphas really have a strangely uniform way of handling certain things.”
Gu Shiyu froze, even forgetting to continue helping Li Qingran with his wound. “What do you mean?”
“It means nothing.” Li Qingran pulled his hand back and wiped his fingertips on Gu Shiyu’s clothes. Then, under the gaze of the Alpha’s increasingly dark eyes, he reached out and grabbed his tie.
A sudden sense of suffocation gripped his neck. The distance between Gu Shiyu and Li Qingran shortened even further. He could even feel waves of that ice and snow scent lunging at him, making his head spin with the cold. His body tightened involuntarily.
“How do you want me to punish you?” he heard Gu Shiyu ask.
“Physically? Or mentally? Would that be inappropriate? After all, you’re supposed to be in the middle of helping me escape right now.”
As Li Qingran spoke, his hand gripping the tie tightened bit by bit. His other free hand slid from the side of the Alpha’s ear down to his shoulder. With a slight exert of force, the Alpha, who had been in the superior position, slid from the seat onto the carpet.
Gu Shiyu instinctively looked up at Li Qingran. His eyes, having adjusted to the darkness, easily saw the spark of interest in the Alpha’s gaze.
Li Qingran seemed to treat the “punishment” he mentioned as something very fun. Or rather, someone else had suggested the word to him before. And that time, for the Alpha, it might have indeed been a very enjoyable experience.
Gu Shiyu’s mind involuntarily conjured up the two “strawberries” on Li Qingran’s collarbone. He thought of the way his eyebrows arched the moment he heard the word punishment, and that summary of a sentence that fell from his lips.
“You Alphas, in certain matters,”
You Alphas.
That meant that besides him, there was another Alpha who had given Li Qingran the same feeling. And as for who that Alpha could be, Gu Shiyu couldn’t think of anyone other than Jiang Siran.
What exactly did Li Qingran do with him? How far did they go?
Gu Shiyu’s gaze was fixed firmly on Li Qingran’s face. It moved from the eyes to the nose, over the thin lips, past the neck, and finally stopped at the collarbone half-hidden by the collar.
The fingertips pressing against his knees twitched. Gu Shiyu could not stop himself from reaching out, wanting to pull aside that annoying collar to fully reveal the collarbone marked with those two red spots.
He wanted to rub those marks aggressively with his hands until they vanished completely. He wanted to press them with his fingertips and grind them with his lips until there wasn’t a trace of Jiang Siran’s scent left, until it was entirely filled with his own pheromones.
After all, isn’t that how Li Qingran punished Jiang Siran? Then he should be allowed to have the same punishment. He wanted that kind of punishment!
Gu Shiyu’s Adam’s apple bobbed.
His body stiffened instinctively, and his lips drew closer to Li Qingran’s open collar. But a hand pressed against his lips.
Li Qingran didn’t actually use much force, yet Gu Shiyu stopped his movements as if he were a puppet whose strings had been cut.
In the pitch-black car, the black-haired, black-eyed Alpha knelt on one knee before a youth so beautiful he seemed unreal. He looked up with a gaze focused and obsessed, like a feverish believer admiring his god.
The pale, slender fingers carried a trace of coldness. When the ice and snow pheromones slipped into Gu Shiyu’s mouth through the gap in his lips, they also carried a faint, almost non-existent scent of blood.
It was very, very faint, yet it was like a spark falling on dry hay. Blown by the cold wind mixed with snowflakes, it easily set Gu Shiyu’s entire body ablaze.
It was truly strange.
Gu Shiyu couldn’t help but swallow. The finger on his lips was clearly so cold, yet he only felt heat.
He heard Li Qingran let out what sounded like a soft laugh. His tone was full of the kind of confusion that came from asking something he already knew the answer to. “What are you trying to do?”
“I,”
Gu Shiyu’s lips moved, wanting to say something, but his blank mind could not organize a complete sentence. The finger on his lips, whether intentionally or not, pressed against his philtrum and rubbed back and forth. The ice and snow pheromones followed, slipping bit by bit through the gap of his lips and onto the tip of his tongue.
Stinging pain, rage, irritation, struggle. One after another, the bodily reactions triggered by contacting an Alpha’s pheromones began to stimulate his nerves and attack his brain. It made him uncontrollably want to strike back.
He wanted to resist. He wanted to stand up and pin the Alpha, who was currently looking down at him, firmly against the seat. He wanted to use his body to tell the other who the true victor was.
Between the flickers of light in his eyes, countless images appeared in Gu Shiyu’s mind. His breathing became rapid. His well-fitted suit was stretched tight by the bulging muscles beneath. The scent of red wine pheromones began to spread outward, surging and roaring, as if trying to tear apart and swallow all the surrounding ice and snow pheromones.
Li Qingran blinked, and Gu Shiyu was about to rise.
However, in the next second, a finger suddenly stuffed into his mouth acted like a switch on his body, causing Gu Shiyu to freeze instantly.
Within his line of sight, the beautiful Alpha seemed completely unaffected by the Alpha pheromones. His expression remained indifferent, and his breathing was steady. Even with a finger stirring and pressing inside another Alpha’s mouth, there was no extra expression on his face. He looked like a doctor, and Gu Shiyu was the patient lying on the operating table—defenseless, at his mercy, waiting for him to save him.
“Stick out your tongue,” Gu Shiyu heard Li Qingran say to him.
“…”
Gu Shiyu stuck out his tongue.
Then, in the next second, Li Qingran’s thumb pressed against the tip of his tongue. A decisive, purely commanding word fell into Gu Shiyu’s ear.
“Lick.”
“…” Gu Shiyu’s lips moved.
He wanted to ask if this was somehow wrong. He wanted to ask if the punishment Jiang Siran received was like this too. He even wanted to ask what exactly Li Qingran took him for at this moment.
Was he the fiance-to-be of an ex-boyfriend? An unfamiliar friend? An Alpha who had inexplicably helped him escape the airport? Or a well-behaved, obedient.
Gu Shiyu wanted to know it all. But in the end, his tongue twitched twice. Following the Alpha’s command, he licked the owner’s fingertip over and over, like a puppy. He begged for him to look at him once more, to reward him with a little more.
“You really look like a puppy doing that,” Li Qingran said with a soft laugh.
Gemini said
He said nothing, focusing solely on tending to the wound on Li Qingran’s finger pad. He didn’t even know if the purpose behind the request to lick his finger was to actually clean the now-invisible injury or something else entirely.
The warm, moist tip of his tongue made constant contact with the soft skin, rubbing against it. As Gu Shiyu swallowed that faint scent of ice and snow, only one thought remained in his blank mind: Do others treat Li Qingran this way too? Su Jingyi, Qi Ziyan, and Jiang Siran, did they all kneel before him like this, accepting commands that felt like both punishment and reward?
Gu Shiyu didn’t know.
He could only kiss Li Qingran’s finger more fervently, taking the fingertip completely into his mouth to make that scent of ice and snow more intense, more violent. He wanted it to make his head spin and his reason vanish. Otherwise, he truly didn’t know how to resolve the confusion within his heart.
But at that moment, Li Qingran suddenly withdrew his pheromones.
Like a cat teaser toy, it moved close when he wanted to give up, and pulled away just as he wanted to pounce. It gave him hope, only to let it fall through.
Gu Shiyu opened his empty mouth. “You,”
“You’ve made my skin all wrinkled.”
Before Gu Shiyu could finish, the cat teaser was placed in front of him again. Just as the Alpha said, the skin of the finger held before his eyes had gone from smooth to pruney. There was a distinct red indentation, and the surrounding flesh was an unnatural pale white with a faint sheen, a clear result of being soaked in warm liquid for too long.
It was his doing.
Gu Shiyu blinked.
The Alpha’s voice continued, “What? Is Mr. Gu dissatisfied with my method of punishment, so he’s using this opportunity to retaliate?”
“No,” Gu Shiyu answered. For some reason, even though Li Qingran was questioning him with an attitude far worse than before, looking at the Alpha now made him suddenly want to laugh.
And he did.
The refined and steady Alpha knelt on one knee before Li Qingran, gently holding the finger that was waving dismissively in front of him. His breathing was heavy, but his voice was more tender than ever.
“I really just wanted to help you with the wound, but it seems I’ve made things worse. I’m sorry. Shall I apologize to you?”
As he spoke, he lowered his head to kiss Li Qingran’s fingertip, a light, fleeting touch. Then he looked up again, a spark returning to his dark eyes.
“If you’re still angry, how about punishing me again?”
Li Qingran couldn’t help but chuckle. “Punish you again?”
He leaned down toward Gu Shiyu, his finger tracing a circle in the Alpha’s palm, sliding from the palm to the fingertip, then resting against the Alpha’s lips. Then, the moment the other opened his mouth, he immediately withdrew it.
“Did Mr. Gu take me away from the airport in the middle of the night just so I could punish him a few more times?”
The beautiful youth leaned even closer. His slightly long black hair fell forward, which, combined with his pale face and exquisite features, created a soul-stirring impact. He looked like a phantom or spirit one might stumble upon in a mountain ravine. One look, and you’d offer up your heart.
Gu Shiyu watched as the youth’s eyes crinkled. Then, those red lips parted slightly to utter a single phrase:
“That’s truly perverted.”
The warm breath from the Alpha’s words fell onto his skin. Gu Shiyu stared dazed at Li Qingran, and in the next second, a shiver ran through him. A tingle of numbness traveled from the top of his head to the soles of his feet.
Gu Shiyu couldn’t hold back anymore!
“Then do you like it?” Gu Shiyu grabbed Li Qingran’s hand, pressing for an answer. “Do you like this perverted way?”
Li Qingran blinked. “What? If I say I like it, are you planning to keep being this perverted?”
Of course! Gu Shiyu wanted to say.
But before he could speak, Li Qingran continued:
“That won’t do. After all, in the future, you are going to marry Jingyi.”
Gu Shiyu froze.
The Alpha’s clear, gentle voice went on, “You can’t be this perverted. An Omega won’t be able to stand it. You should restrain yourself, at least in front of Jing,”
“Stop it.” Gu Shiyu interrupted him.
Li Qingran could feel the hand the Alpha held him with trembling slightly, as if he were enduring immense pain or a reality he currently refused to accept.
Canine teeth finally sank into his lip as he wished. Blood snaked down the seam of his lips. In a daze, it seemed as if even the grey eyes watching him were stained with red.
“What’s wrong?” Li Qingran tilted his head, his voice full of confusion. “Did I say something wrong?”
“No.”
But precisely because Li Qingran hadn’t said a single word wrong, because this was the reality he had to face, it was all the more difficult to accept.
Why do I have to consider the Gu family? Why do I have to marry Su Jingyi? Why must I be bound to an Omega?
Gu Shiyu’s mind suddenly became chaotic. Questions flooded his brain, and simultaneously, a voice began to ring in his ears. It seemed to be answering his questions, yet it also felt like it was crudely forcing a predetermined rule into his head.
“You are supposed to be with an Omega. You must be with Su Jingyi. Cooperate with the Su family, grow the Gu family, and live a married life of bickering with Su Jingyi. You comfort his heart that was wounded by his ex-boyfriend, and finally, the Omega realizes your feelings hidden for years, leading to a happy ending.”
“This is the life you should live.”
“You must live this way. You must like Su Jingyi. You have to like Su Jingyi.”
Su Jingyi, Su Jingyi, Su Jingyi! Why was he everywhere?!
The voice exploding in Gu Shiyu’s ears was louder than the thunder outside, making his head ring. He instinctively threw his head back, gripping the soft object already in his palm with force, as if only this could keep him from being swept away by the waves in this ocean of vertigo.
What is going on? Who is speaking?!
For a moment, Gu Shiyu even forgot where he was, where he was kneeling, or whom he was facing! He only felt a surge of violent rage rush into his brain along with the dizziness, turning his eyes red. His pheromones ravaged the car interior, mirroring their master’s struggle.
Why? On what grounds? Why must I like Su Jingyi? Why do I have to be Su Jingyi’s lapdog? If I have to be a dog, why must it be for Su Jingyi? Why can’t it be,
Can’t it be,
Fuck!
Gu Shiyu wanted to curse! Li Qingran’s name was stuck in his throat. No matter how he struggled, he couldn’t spit it out.
At the same time, his throat began to burn with a searing pain, making his eyes red and his temples throb. His thin lips, stained red with blood, suffered a new round of tearing. His vision grew increasingly blurred.
All these abnormal reactions gave him an absurd sense that he was dreaming, yet the physical pain forced him to accept that this was reality!
Reality was that he needed to like Su Jingyi, as if only then would he be normal and the world would be normal.
But, was this really normal?!
It wasn’t!
Gu Shiyu forced himself to sit up straight.
Why should his life be controlled by someone else? Why should he follow that unknown voice and like someone he didn’t like?
He didn’t like Su Jingyi! Not now, and definitely not in the future!
“Then who do you like?”
As if from nowhere, someone whispered a question in his ear. Who is the person you actually like?
Gu Shiyu blinked. Physiological tears welled up in his eyes under the high pressure, but the corners of his lips curled into a slight arc upon hearing the question.
“Li Qingran.”
“What?”
“The person I like is Li Qingran.”
“And Su Jingyi?”
Tell him to get lost!
An irritated voice, accompanied by a screeching of brakes that rang through the heavens, sounded in Gu Shiyu’s ears. In the blink of an eye, everything before him suddenly became clear.
Blinding lights pierced through the dense raindrops and into the car windows, illuminating the previously dim interior. Gu Shiyu blinked, watching Li Qingran’s mouth move, but he couldn’t hear a thing.
“What did you say?” He couldn’t help but lean closer to Li Qingran.
“I said,” the latter repeated patiently, “this command might be hard to carry out.”
“What command?”
“The command to tell him to get lost.”
“Tell who to get lost?”
“Su Jingyi.”
Warm breath brushed against Gu Shiyu’s ear. The Alpha’s finger patted his shoulder comfortingly.
Gu Shiyu froze.
The next second, with a sharp click, a pale, damp hand grabbed Li Qingran’s wrist as the door opened.
“Now, can you return my brother to me?”
