- Chapter 31.1 - Cannon Fodder Ex-Boyfriend 31 – All Present
“RUMBLE!”
A bolt of thunder crashed directly down.
Li Qingran turned his head toward the car window. The beautiful Omega wasn’t even wearing a hat; he was soaked from head to toe by the heavy rain. Usually, this was an Omega who would get upset if even a small patch of his clothes got dirty, yet now he didn’t seem to care at all about looking like a drowned rat.
He simply smiled as he gazed at Li Qingran. His amber eyes looked as though they were completely occupied by the Alpha the instant he saw him.
“Brother, I caught you.”
Is that so?
Did you really catch me?
Li Qingran blinked. His gaze slid from Su Jingyi’s face down to the hand gripping him. Slender, fair fingers were wrapped around a pale wrist, the pinky finger lightly rubbing, not just feeling the warmth of the Alpha’s skin beneath the pads of his fingers, but also the mechanical watch that Li Qingran had worn since the start of the plot.
Su Jingyi had given it to Li Qingran on the first day they started dating, along with a cell phone.
With his eyelashes drooping slightly, and amidst the screams of System 888, who had finally managed to manifest, a trace of pain appeared on Li Qingran’s face. “Jingyi, you know very well that we”
“We are destined to be together forever!”
Before Li Qingran could finish, Su Jingyi took the liberty of completing the sentence for him.
【No, is there something wrong with the Protagonist Shou?! Instead of being all lovey-dovey with the Protagonist Gong, why does he keep pestering us, a mere cannon fodder!!!】 888 cried out in a breakdown.
Li Qingran could actually answer the question of why the Protagonist Shou wasn’t with the Protagonist Gong; after all, the other subject of that question was currently sitting on his other side, locked in a confrontation with the Shou.
However, considering that 888 was already spitting sparks, Li Qingran pressed his tongue against his cheek and decided not to tell the system this cruel reality for now. Let the system fret over the plot a bit longer and look for bugs; it might help increase his level of freedom.
Li Qingran licked his lips. Ignoring 888, who was overwhelmed by bugs the moment it came out, he focused on the drama unfolding before him.
“I’m with you, but what about Mr. Gu? Aren’t your families already discussing the engagement? How are you going to defy the Su family to be with me?”
Su Jingyi froze.
Li Qingran’s voice continued, “So, how exactly are we supposed to be together?”
“We cannot be together, Jingyi,” the Alpha said softly. His voice was incredibly gentle, yet at a certain moment, it seemed to overlap with a cold, mechanical voice.
He said, “You can’t be bound to me forever. You will eventually marry Mr. Gu. You two are the pair meant for the sunlight. You are supposed to be with Mr. Gu; you should be with him.”
Under the piercing headlights, the continuous raindrops seemed to turn into strands of cold data. Amidst those millions of data points, the Omega stood tall outside the door. Rain slid down his hair onto his pale face. His amber eyes became misty and confused, whether from the battering rain or the wash of data, it was unclear.
He should be with Gu Shiyu.
He MUST be with Gu Shiyu!
Su Jingyi blinked.
Within his sight, the Omega’s blonde hair was completely wet from the rain. The soft golden strands clung to his fair cheeks, and his amber eyes were filled with a layer of moisture. He looked disheveled, pitiful, and a bit aggrieved.
“Why?” Li Qingran heard him speak softly. It was unclear if he was asking Li Qingran or someone else. “Why do I have to be with Gu Shiyu? On what grounds must I be with Gu Shiyu?!”
As the Omega’s voice fell, his hand gripping Li Qingran’s wrist jerked hard. In the next second, Li Qingran, caught completely off guard, had half his body dragged out of the car. It looked as though Li Qingran was about to fall into Su Jingyi’s arms.
But at that moment, reacting even faster than Li Qingran, Gu Shiyu, who was sitting on the other side, reached out and grabbed his other arm.
“Do you think I really want to be with you?” Gu Shiyu said coldly from the other side.
“Then go say it! Say you don’t want to be engaged to me at all!”
“Why should I be the one to say it?!” Gu Shiyu snorted. His eyes held a trace of cold mockery as he looked at Su Jingyi. “You think I don’t know your little scheme? If I say it, I’ll be the one bearing the wrath of both families’ elders, all so you can happily be with Li Qingran, right!”
“And if not? You’re the one who caused all of this in the first place!” Su Jingyi retorted, refusing to back down.
The two protagonists, who were supposed to love each other and live happily ever after in the original plot, were now glaring at each other, arguing incessantly. Meanwhile, Li Qingran, caught in the middle, was being chilled to the bone by the rain. On the right was Su Jingyi, pulling him out of the car. On the left was Gu Shiyu, holding him back and refusing to let him leave.
Neither side wanted to let go, and both were applying force. Consequently, Li Qingran was in an awkward spot. He couldn’t go in, and he couldn’t get out.
Tsk. I played this a bit too far.
Li Qingran pursed his lips. For the first time, he felt a sense of empathy for 888. If the Protagonist Gong and Shou were going to go crazy, could they please just direct it at each other and not involve innocent bystanders, like him?
Who would have thought that between two Alphas and an Omega, the one caught in the middle would be an Alpha.
Rain slid down his cheek, and a few drops fell into his collar. Li Qingran instinctively shivered and leaned back toward the interior of the car.
Su Jingyi’s eyes widened instantly. “Brother!”
Brother is here! Brother just doesn’t want to be in the rain anymore.
Li Qingran looked helplessly at Su Jingyi. “Whatever you have to say, can we talk inside the car?”
He really didn’t want to be in the rain anymore.
However, Su Jingyi misunderstood his words. He thought that between him and Gu Shiyu, Li Qingran was choosing to stay in the car and leave with Gu Shiyu. In an instant, his face turned even paler.
“No!” His grip on Li Qingran’s hand tightened. “Brother, how can you choose him? Why are you choosing him? You are supposed to be with me! You must be with me!”
“???”
Getting into the car equals choosing to be with him? This is as ridiculous as thinking that accepting a WeChat friend request is a marriage application!
Li Qingran was about to explain when Gu Shiyu’s voice came from behind him, adding fuel to the fire. “Why must he be with you? Su Jingyi, when are you going to accept the reality that Ah Ran doesn’t love you anymore?”
“Gu Shiyu! You”
“Enough!”
Having had enough of the rain, Li Qingran finally lost his patience. To prevent these two from continuing their madness in this position, he twisted his wrist, gripped Su Jingyi’s arm, and pulled hard.
In the next second, the Omega, who had been gripping Li Qingran’s wrist and leaning back at a sixty-degree angle, was pulled forward by the impatient Alpha and then ushered into the car with an arm around his waist.
Finally under cover, Li Qingran breathed a sigh of relief. However, the atmosphere between Gu Shiyu and Su Jingyi grew even more explosive.
Inside the carriage, pheromones smelling of red wine and lemon surged and spread. They didn’t blend together as textbooks described; instead, there was a faint, aggressive urge to attack one another.
Gu Shiyu reached out first, tugging Li Qingran’s arm to bring the Alpha closer to him. “Have you had enough of your fit? If you have, go back to your own car.”
Hearing this, Su Jingyi snorted. “If a certain dog would just let go, I would have taken Brother back to my car long ago. You think I want to stay in this car? It reeks of dog!”
“A certain dog,” Gu Shiyu seemed to let out a short laugh, though there wasn’t much mirth in his black eyes. “So what? You couldn’t even be one if you wanted to. After all, the only person Ah Ran has wanted to get away from from the very beginning is you.”
Su Jingyi’s expression shifted instantly. His breathing grew ragged, and moisture quickly welled up in his eyes. “You”
“What? Did I strike a nerve in that fragile little heart of yours? My apologies, then.” Gu Shiyu blinked. Though he said “sorry,” there wasn’t a hint of apology in his gaze.
“Gu Shiyu!” Su Jingyi was shaking with rage.
Looking at his flushed cheeks, Li Qingran hesitated over whether to intervene. Omegas in this world were indeed fragile. If he really provoked Su Jingyi to the point of collapse, the world falling apart would be a minor issue; he was more afraid of failing his mission. Not only would his meddling fail, but he might be sent to a punishment world or even deported back into the game. For the current him, who now possessed self-awareness, that would be a true disaster.
Li Qingran opened his mouth to speak, but then he heard Su Jingyi laugh. A strand of damp golden hair fell across the corner of his mouth, moving as the Omega’s red lips parted and closed.
“Well, I’m still the one he’s with. Go take a walk around Nanda University and ask who Li Qingran’s boyfriend is. The name anyone gives will only be mine, Su Jingyi. While you, Gu Shiyu, are nothing more than a villain, a scumbag who wants to cling to the Su family to climb the ladder but refuses to humble himself. What exactly do you think you are?”
Su Jingyi sat directly on Li Qingran’s lap.
He was already sharing the same seat. Now, with his legs spread, he straddled Li Qingran. His cold fingertips brushed against the Alpha’s face, leaving a trail of dampness.
“A dog? That’s what people without a title want to be. And I, I will only ever be Brother’s boyfriend, his partner, his companion for life, the lover who will be buried with him even in death.”
“Brother,” Su Jingyi lowered his head, slowly leaning toward Li Qingran until they could see the trembling of each other’s eyelashes and feel each other’s breath. He then spoke softly, “I don’t care.”
“Whether you get a room with another Omega, or stay in a room with them during Heat, or leave with an Alpha, or stop loving me, or betray me, I don’t care about any of it. As long as you stay by my side from now on. Brother, don’t leave me.”
Su Jingyi’s fingertips brushed over Li Qingran’s eyes, nose, and cheeks, finally resting on those slightly parted thin lips. “And I won’t let you leave me.”
I don’t care if you betrayed me or not. I don’t care if you love me or not. Because, in the end, only I will be left by your side. Your boyfriend, your husband, your lover, it can only be me.
