- Chapter 28 - Cannon Fodder Ex-Boyfriend 28, I’ll Perform a Magic Trick for You.
Jiang Siran only felt his scalp go numb as his mouth filled with liquid. His own, Li Qingran’s, the scent of gunpowder and ice and snow completely blended together. The stimulation caused the veins on his neck to bulge. His dark green eyes stared blankly ahead. He wanted to speak, but because his mouth was full, he could only let out sounds resembling whimpers.
A soft, slightly cool fingertip brushed against the corner of his mouth. Li Qingran wiped something away from his lips and then smeared it entirely onto his own.
“So perverted,” he heard the Alpha chuckle. It was a nonchalant remark, and it was unclear if he was referring to himself or Jiang Siran.
Jiang Siran blinked and looked up. His gaze moved slowly from that wet, red segment upward. Like a camera lens focusing, the objects in front of him blurred while the Alpha’s face gradually became clear.
Jiang Siran watched as Li Qingran crinkled his eyes at him. The stray hairs on his forehead swayed gently with his movements. Occasionally, a couple of strands blocked his vision, only to be brushed aside by the Alpha, as if he didn’t want anything to interfere with his gaze at that moment.
“Are you dazed?”
He watched Li Qingran suddenly lean in close. Those exquisite, beautiful features magnified further in his dark green eyes. The extreme impact made Jiang Siran instinctively hold his breath, and his Adam’s apple couldn’t help but tremble slightly.
However, just as he was about to swallow, before his Adam’s apple could slide down, Li Qingran’s hand suddenly fell onto that protruding lump on his neck.
Soft fingertips gently rubbed the slightly hard protrusion. His voice carried curiosity and a trace of teasing, whether intentional or not, as the end of his sentence tilted upward.
“What’s wrong, Ah Ran? Is your throat uncomfortable? Why is it shaking so much? Why aren’t you speaking?”
Jiang Siran’s breathing became erratic again. He moved his lips, wanting to say something, but before he could make a sound, he felt Li Qingran’s hand leave his neck.
The Alpha seemed to lack patience, or perhaps he was simply filled with curiosity about Jiang Siran’s body. After exploring his Adam’s apple, he moved upward without delay, sliding from the neck to just below the mouth. With a gentle hook of his index finger, the Alpha kneeling on the floor instinctively tilted his head back, his red lips slightly parted. Following the pressure of Li Qingran’s finger on his lower lip, the pink tongue coated with white petals entered Li Qingran’s view.
Seeing this, Li Qingran couldn’t help but laugh.
“Are you a hamster? Why are you still hiding food in your mouth?”
“I,”
“Do you like it that much?” Li Qingran asked suddenly.
“Does it taste good?”
“Are there a lot of pheromones?”
“Do you want more?”
Jiang Siran was speechless.
Flashes of white light seemed to streak past the window, followed closely by the sound of thunder. The classical landline on the desk let out a crisp ring, but Jiang Siran didn’t even notice. He could only stare at Li Qingran, who was moving further and further away from him.
Watching those features recede in his vision, the clearly visible pleasure on that face became blurred once more. The fog was rolling back in, and he was about to lose sight of and touch with the Alpha before him again.
No! He wouldn’t have it!
Jiang Siran’s Adam’s apple moved.
A burning sensation flowed down his throat and into his stomach. The intense heat made his entire being feel warm. At that same moment, Jiang Siran finally regained control over his body.
He reached out to stop Li Qingran’s attempt to straighten his clothes. Instead, just as the Alpha had commanded him earlier, he used his mouth to bit by bit clean away the remnants on Li Qingran’s body. The warm mouth encased the soft skin. Jiang Siran felt the Alpha’s body stiffen for an instant; his breathing skipped several beats, and the hand that had left his chin returned to rest on his head.
Satisfaction. Possessiveness.
Jiang Siran became excited along with Li Qingran. Even if no one came to soothe him or help him, what did it matter?
As long as he could see Li Qingran wearing a dazed expression because of him, as long as he knew he was the one making Li Qingran look like this, and that he was the one providing all this pleasure, Jiang Siran felt his heart pounding as if it were about to explode.
Let me just keep looking at him like this. Let me just stay connected to him like this. Forever and ever, never apart.
Li Qingran felt like he was dreaming at the end. The crystal chandelier on the ceiling swayed like a swing, first carrying him high into the sky, then plummeting the moment he touched the clouds, sending him back to reality.
By the time he was conscious again, he was already being held in the arms of Jiang Siran, who had climbed up at some point. The Alpha with the dark green eyes held his shoulders with both hands like an insecure child, burying his cheek against his shoulder. Beneath the two layers of fabric, the heartbeat was still fierce, easily detectable by Li Qingran.
Despite having performed such an intimate act, he still looked as though he had no sense of security.
Li Qingran licked his lips and picked up a strand of hair from the side of Jiang Siran’s face. In the process, his fingertips inevitably brushed against the Alpha’s burning cheek. It was a light touch, yet it still caused the Alpha’s body to shiver.
Li Qingran felt Jiang Siran’s arms tighten around him significantly, but soon, as if afraid he couldn’t handle it, they loosened by several degrees. However, this level of embrace clearly couldn’t satisfy the Alpha.
Li Qingran watched as Jiang Siran constantly adjusted the strength of his hug. It wasn’t until the clock above their heads chimed the hour that Li Qingran finally caught hold of Jiang Siran’s tensed arm.
“What is wrong with you?” Li Qingran turned his head to ask.
“Nothing,” Jiang Siran answered after a moment of silence.
Li Qingran didn’t ask further.
He waited while Jiang Siran silently adjusted his posture and strength for a while longer. Finally, unable to hold it in, the Alpha buried his head in Li Qingran’s neck. His voice carried a muffled sense of desperation.
“Can we go back to Beicheng later?”
Actually, what Jiang Siran wanted to say was that they should return to Beicheng right this second. However, considering that Li Qingran had just released twice, he might not be able to handle traveling through the rain overnight. He thought it best to let him rest for a while and wait until his strength was mostly recovered.
But no matter how much they delayed, it couldn’t be later than tonight. They had to leave tonight! He had to take Li Qingran away before Gu Shiyu and the others came back to snatch him!
Although Gu Shiyu hadn’t said anything more after Li Qingran stated his position and had left with Su Jingyi, Jiang Siran had a premonition that the man would not just let things go. His departure was merely because he hadn’t thought of a better reason to persuade Li Qingran to leave, and since Su Jingyi’s pheromones were unstable, he had to take him away first. Once they were stable, they would surely discuss how to bring Li Qingran back.
They had a common enemy now. Jiang Siran was quite self-aware about this.
To be honest, Jiang Siran didn’t particularly care that Gu Shiyu and Su Jingyi might team up against him. He was just unable to grasp Li Qingran’s attitude. Like now, even though he was holding him and they were very close, he still felt there was a layer between them. The Alpha was still filled with that nonchalant distance that kept people a thousand miles away, as if he ignored everyone and hadn’t included anyone in his inner circle.
Jiang Siran didn’t know if Li Qingran was like this with Su Jingyi as well, or if the other had made efforts for him. Regardless, he wanted to change this. He wanted to pull the Alpha down from his observer’s position and make him fully integrate into his life and this world.
All of this required time, and more importantly, a space for the two of them to be alone. Therefore, he had to shake off those annoying Alphas and Omegas from Li Qingran’s side!
Biting his lower lip, Jiang Siran’s hand slid from Li Qingran’s shoulder to his waist and slowly tightened. His voice by the other’s ear carried a hint of subtle coaxing.
“I know it might be a bit rushed, but I suddenly remembered a restaurant in Beicheng that’s very good. The owner is closing the shop because they’re going abroad. I’m afraid if we go back in a few days, we won’t be able to eat there. It’s really delicious, let me take you to try it, okay? Let’s go tonight.”
Li Qingran curled his lips. “Is it really that good?”
“It’s delicious!” Jiang Siran’s hand on his waist tightened again. “It’s so popular, the place is packed every day. Sometimes you can’t even get a reservation.”
“Is that so?” Li Qingran lowered his eyelashes, his voice calm. “Then do you have to fight for a number sometimes?”
“Exactly! It takes so much effort to get one. That’s why I want to take you back earlier. After all,” Jiang Siran leaned in closer to Li Qingran’s neck, closer to the gland where the scent of pheromones was even richer. He felt his throat start to itch again, and his voice became hoarse. “If we go late and someone else snatches it, it won’t be good.”
Li Qingran raised an eyebrow almost imperceptibly. He reached out with his fingertip and lightly tapped the Alpha’s scabbed wound. After feeling the Alpha’s body stiffen instantly, he spoke with a smile.
“Alright then. Let’s go to Beicheng later.”
“Really?! You agreed!”
Jiang Siran immediately jumped up from the sofa. The gloom that had been lingering around him vanished the moment Li Qingran nodded.
“Then I’ll arrange for people to pack up and leave now!”
Jiang Siran paced back and forth in front of Li Qingran, listing the things he needed to take back with him. After all, if nothing unexpected happened, he wouldn’t be returning to Nancheng. At this thought, he looked at Li Qingran again. “Qingran, do you have anything you want to take with you?”
Actually, if it were up to Jiang Siran, Li Qingran wouldn’t need to take anything. Everything could be replaced with new things once they were in Beicheng. He’d even throw away the clothes Li Qingran was wearing. It would be best to leave no trace of Nancheng from head to toe!
But doing that would clearly be too disrespectful of Li Qingran’s wishes. Jiang Siran didn’t want to do that, and he was also afraid of Li Qingran. So he could only say words that went against his heart while looking at Li Qingran pitifully, hoping the man would give the answer he truly wanted to hear.
Li Qingran was also watching Jiang Siran. Although he wasn’t a mind reader, the little thoughts of the Alpha, who put all his emotions on his face whenever he was nervous, were truly easy to guess.
And so, during Jiang Siran’s anxious wait, the Alpha sitting on the sofa first looked him up and down, then frowned slightly as if thinking and debating. Jiang Siran’s heart became as wrinkled as Li Qingran’s tightening brow.
So, are there still things in that house that the Alpha can’t bear to part with? Is it something related to Su Jingyi?
Jiang Siran couldn’t help but let his mind wander. Then, at that moment, two words fell light as a feather, yet exploded like fireworks in his ears.
“None.”
Jiang Siran couldn’t even react for a moment. “What did you say?”
“None.” Li Qingran repeated with great patience. “I don’t have anything I want to take away.”
“Really nothing, Host?” 888 felt a pang of sympathy for Li Qingran. “Aren’t there several game figurines you like over there? Do you really not want them either?”
“I don’t want them.”
He was no longer the game NPC who had just been pulled from the game world by the system, feeling a sense of unreality about everything and finding security only by looking at models that resembled his previous game avatar.
He would not return to that game, nor would he be controlled by a preset program again. His body had warmth, he had his own thoughts, and he had become a real person.
The car window was opened just a narrow crack, and the wind, mixed with rain, poured in and fell onto Li Qingran’s hand.
Cold, damp, and real.
This is a novel world, Li Qingran thought. But who could truly say for certain that this isn’t a real world?
Compared to the nebulous “true real world” 888 spoke of, which Li Qingran had no chance to touch, he preferred to believe in everything he could see, touch, and feel right now.
This was a real world.
For him.
For every person existing in this world.
Every person existed freely here, whether they were involved in the main plot or not.
And he, too, within this collapsing plot, would make himself a little freer, and then a little freer still.
The black car turned once more in the heavy rain. The windshield wipers scraped faster and faster. The surrounding scenery was quickly thrown back by the increasing speed of the car. Streetlights came and went. Amidst the alternating light and shadow, Li Qingran’s grey eyes, staring intently at the rearview mirror, flickered between light and dark, unreadable.
Beside him, Jiang Siran was still telling him about which places in Beicheng were fun. In the front, the assistant was swiping on a tablet and discussing with the driver which route would get them to the airport faster and more smoothly. Li Qingran heard everything clearly, but he didn’t respond much. He only slowly rubbed the metal button on the pocket of his grey coat with his hand.
It wasn’t until the driver in front let out a questioning “Huh?” that he seemed to wake up from a dream. He looked at the car that had suddenly appeared in the rearview mirror and blinked a couple of times.
“It’s the middle of the night, and there are other people going to the airport just like us?” In the entire car, only the driver’s voice sounded cheerful.
Jiang Siran straightened his body almost the moment he saw that car. His dark green eyes narrowed slightly, and his eyebrows knit together. After a long moment, he commanded, “Change the route.”
“Yes, President Jiang!” Although he didn’t understand why, the driver obediently turned the steering wheel and headed right at the next intersection.
The car behind them, as expected, also turned.
After that, Jiang Siran had the driver change routes several more times. Without exception, the car behind followed them, like a ghost in the rainy night that was inseparable and impossible to shake off.
“Fuck!” Jiang Siran couldn’t help but curse.
Li Qingran turned his head to look at him. The latter immediately put on a reassuring smile. “It’s nothing, just a small problem encountered at work.”
Li Qingran also smiled at him. “Is it hard to handle? Should we find a place to stop first and let you—”
“No need!”
Before Li Qingran could finish, Jiang Siran immediately interrupted him.
The car behind was much closer to them now, and the smile on Jiang Siran’s face became increasingly strained. “Let’s get to the airport first. We’ll talk when we get there.”
“Alright then.” Li Qingran did not insist.
He turned his head back, his gaze falling once more on the rearview mirror. Outside the window, the light and shadows were chaotic. Li Qingran’s voice became drifting and uncertain. “Ah Ran, with such heavy rain, do you think the planes can still fly?”
“They can—”
“Whether they can or not, the Jiang family’s planes won’t be flying! Not just today, but even tomorrow!”
In the center of the airport, the office was brightly lit. Figures moved about. The manager, who should have been sitting in the chair, stood trembling across from the desk. In the black chair facing away from the desk, a pale hand rested casually on the armrest. His fingertips pinched a fallen leaf picked up from somewhere. It was golden yellow, entwined between his fair fingers like honey, refusing to fall, and not allowed to fall.
After a long while, the manager heard the person behind the office chair say softly, “Unless he leaves that person behind.”
“Which person?!”
Jiang Siran was almost laughed out of anger by the airport staff. Especially after Su Jingyi, who entered the airport immediately after him, let out an obvious sneer, he felt tonight’s experience was truly terrible.
“What? When you held a figure similar to my brother’s to trick me into following you here, you didn’t expect that you wouldn’t be able to fly at all today, did you?” Su Jingyi laughed.
Jiang Siran was not to be outdone. “So how were you tricked into coming here by me? I thought you’d be able to recognize it wasn’t Qingran. It seems your love is only so-so.”
“You!” Su Jingyi instinctively wanted to step forward, but he was pulled back by the person beside him. The other whispered something in his ear. In the end, Su Jingyi only glared at Jiang Siran, let out a cold snort, and stopped talking.
Jiang Siran suddenly had a bad feeling.
Mainly, Gu Shiyu hadn’t appeared, which gave him an uneasy feeling in his heart.
Biting his lower lip, Jiang Siran thought about it and couldn’t help but take out his phone. He wanted to contact the other group of bodyguards who had taken Li Qingran to the plane first. But before the call was made, he heard a mocking laugh from behind the crowded group.
“What? Is the young master of the Jiang family failing to apply for a flight route and preparing to call his elders at home to complain?”
Jiang Siran snapped his head up. In the next second, he saw the uniformed staff in front of him separate to the left and right. In the middle of the path, an exquisitely featured Omega was looking at him with raised eyebrows.
The finely dressed Omega curled his chestnut hair with his finger. Although he was smiling, the malice in his eyes was plain to see. “You’re not going to cry later, are you?”
Jiang Siran narrowed his eyes. He had never met this Omega before, but he could guess his identity from his attitude. “Qi Ziyan?”
Qi Ziyan didn’t pay him any mind. He only looked down and rubbed a leaf in his hand. The stem was pinched between his thumb and index finger, and it spun rapidly in mid-air with his rubbing, creating a breeze that lightly stirred the tassels hanging from the Omega’s sleeves.
For a moment, the air fell silent. No one could understand what Qi Ziyan was doing.
It wasn’t until a uniformed staff member ran over from the other side of the airport to Qi Ziyan’s side, whispered a few words, and then reached out to hand him something that Qi Ziyan laughed out loud again. He looked up at Jiang Siran and said, “Young Master Jiang is truly smart. To reward you for guessing my name correctly, how about I perform a magic trick for you?”
Jiang Siran frowned, but Qi Ziyan completely ignored the former’s lack of desire to play along and began his performance on his own.
He watched as those fair, slender hands crossed and then separated. As the Omega blew a puff of air into his palm, the next second, the leaf that had been between his fingers disappeared. A ring fell into Jiang Siran’s view as the palm opened.
That was the ring that was the exact same color as his eyes.
Jiang Siran suddenly clenched his fist.
Beside him, Qi Ziyan’s mocking voice continued. “What? Did you think that by suddenly taking the person away, we wouldn’t be able to intercept you?”
“I’m so sorry. Long before Old Gu and the others left the Jiang residence, I had already sent people to monitor the airport. You can’t leave, and don’t even think about taking anyone away!”
As Qi Ziyan spoke, his fingers let go. The dark green ring fell onto the smooth floor and rolled toward Jiang Siran, stopping only at his feet.
“Quite loyal to its master.” Qi Ziyan let out a cold laugh.
However, just as he watched Jiang Siran bend down to pick up the ring, looking like a stray dog filled with a sense of dejection, he curled his lip and prepared to turn and leave. Suddenly, he heard a sneer from behind.
“So, do you think you’ve won?”
“…” Qi Ziyan turned back with a frown. “What do you mean?!”
Jiang Siran gripped the ring in his hand. His eyes, directed at Qi Ziyan, were full of mockery. “Do you think tonight was a successful snatch for you?”
“Give Gu Shiyu a call.”
“See if he still pays you any mind.”
