Sweat-dampened hair clung to her cheeks.
Gu Lanqiu: “What do you think?”
Some things didn’t need to be said outright. Gu Lanqiu believed Jiang Mengyu would understand her meaning.
The person before her stared unblinkingly, those dark eyes still tinged with the flush of lingering desire. Gu Lanqiu couldn’t help but recall the kiss they had just shared. Her long lashes trembled slightly as she was about to avert her gaze, but the person in front of her suddenly moved.
Her body was pulled into a warm embrace. Gu Lanqiu froze for a moment as Jiang Mengyu tightly wrapped her arms around her waist and shoulders, as if afraid she might push her away.
“Lanqiu…”
The voice was hoarse and soft, yet seemed to suppress some obsessive emotion, whispering low by Gu Lanqiu’s ear.
Gu Lanqiu: “Mm.”
Her body was held so tightly she could barely breathe, but Gu Lanqiu didn’t push Jiang Mengyu away. She let her hold her like that until, after a while, Jiang Mengyu finally seemed to calm down.
“Let’s call a designated driver,” Jiang Mengyu murmured, resting her head on Gu Lanqiu’s shoulder, her voice still slightly breathless.
Gu Lanqiu seemed infected by her emotions too, unaware that the corners of her own lips had curled up slightly.
Looking at the uncontrollable blush on Jiang Mengyu’s face, Gu Lanqiu wondered was she really that excited?
Back when she had agreed to give their relationship a try, Jiang Mengyu hadn’t been this overjoyed.
“You—”
Before she could finish, a finger suddenly pressed against her lips. Gu Lanqiu fell silent, her eyes flickering with confusion.
Jiang Mengyu traced her thumb over Gu Lanqiu’s lips, her gaze lowering as she looked at her intently. “Let’s get in the car first.”
Gu Lanqiu instinctively turned to look behind her, but there was no one there, only empty space.
She turned back, reaching past Jiang Mengyu to press the door handle. With a soft click, the door opened.
Only after both of them had gotten into the car did a shadow dart away from behind a nearby SUV.
Zhou Xinying clutched the fabric over her chest, her breathing low and stifled. Her heart pounded wildly, the nervousness of nearly being caught.
Gu Lanqiu probably hadn’t seen her, but Jiang Mengyu definitely had!
Being caught spying on an intimate moment filled Zhou Xinying with shame and embarrassment, but even more than that, an uncontrollable anticipation.
Did Jiang Mengyu know it was her?
Would she come to explain?
As she watched the two enter the car, the darkened windows, tinted for privacy blocked her view entirely. Yet her thoughts grew even more chaotic than before.
What were they doing?
Jiang Mengyu was kissing Gu Lanqiu.
Gu Lanqiu hadn’t expected her to be so impatient. The moment she settled into her seat, a shadow suddenly loomed over her.
Jiang Mengyu’s gaze was deep, her dark eyes unreadable. Her movements were laden with intimacy, but her lips stopped just a finger’s breadth away from Gu Lanqiu’s.
The scent of jasmine filled the backseat, mingling with the alcohol and perfume on Gu Lanqiu’s skin, saturating every breath they took.
Gu Lanqiu’s chest rose and fell steadily as she studied Jiang Mengyu’s features. When she spoke, her voice was unconsciously husky. “What’s wrong?”
Jiang Mengyu raised her hand, her fingertips coming to rest on Gu Lanqiu’s lips. Those thin lips, kissed moments ago, were now more vivid and plump than usual.
“Lanqiu,” she murmured, her gaze hazy as she looked into Gu Lanqiu’s eyes. Though her touch was bold, there was an inexplicable caution and unease in her movements.
“Am I really not dreaming?”
Her fingers shifted slightly from Gu Lanqiu’s lips, lightly tracing her cheek as if confirming her warmth.
Gu Lanqiu exhaled softly. “Would you kiss me in a dream?”
“Mhm.” Jiang Mengyu’s eyes lingered on Gu Lanqiu’s lips.
She paused, then added in a whisper, “I want to do a lot more.”
Gu Lanqiu wasn’t foolish, she knew exactly what Jiang Mengyu meant.
A faint smirk tugged at her lips. Despite being the one pinned down, her composure was far steadier than Jiang Mengyu’s. “So, you’ve been acting all this time?”
Jiang Mengyu shook her head. “Lanqiu, I don’t want to lie to you.”
She leaned in closer, their voices hushed, like the intimate murmurs of lovers.
“You don’t have to do anything. Just standing in front of me makes me lose control, I can’t help but want to be near you.”
“But I know you don’t like it.” Jiang Mengyu pressed her lips together. “So I had to restrain myself.”
But sometimes, restraint failed just like earlier.
Gu Lanqiu neither confirmed nor denied it. Whether Jiang Mengyu had been acting didn’t matter to her.
“Next time you want to kiss, you don’t need to dream.”
Gu Lanqiu’s gaze drifted downward, lingering on Jiang Mengyu’s lips for a moment. “When you’re with me, you’re not allowed to think of anyone else.”
She didn’t even need to guess, she knew Jiang Mengyu’s dreams only held the version of her from their past life.
“Then… can I kiss you now?” Jiang Mengyu asked softly.
Gu Lanqiu’s eyes returned to Jiang Mengyu’s, and in their depths, she saw her own reflection clearly.
At least in this moment, Jiang Mengyu’s gaze was fixed on her, the one she wanted to kiss was her.
Gu Lanqiu’s eyes were half-lidded, languid with intoxication. “You may.”
Jiang Mengyu tilted her head slightly, sealing their lips together. Gu Lanqiu hesitated for only a second before responding with equal fervor.
In the dim, cramped backseat, the slick sounds of their kiss mingled with their uneven breaths, soft one moment, heavy the next. The air was thick with tension, yet it remained trapped within the car, not a trace escaping.
Jiang Mengyu hated closing her eyes when they kissed. Instead, she watched through half-lidded lashes, drinking in every reaction from Gu Lanqiu.
Her damp, reddened eyes, her cheeks flushed like twilight, even the delicate earlobes adorned with gemstone earrings now crimson. Amidst the cascade of her loosened hair, her face was breathtakingly alluring.
Jiang Mengyu’s lips trailed from the corner of Gu Lanqiu’s mouth downward, settling against the curve of her neck.
Gu Lanqiu arched her chin slightly, her parted lips releasing ragged breaths. She let her eyes flutter shut, surrendering to Jiang Mengyu’s touch.
Her silence was like tacit permission yet the slender hand tangled in Jiang Mengyu’s hair betrayed her true thoughts.
At the very least, she wasn’t resisting.
Otherwise, she could have easily yanked Jiang Mengyu away by her hair.
Gu Lanqiu relaxed her body as much as possible, leaning back in the seat. She tilted her head slightly, the collar of her shirt slightly open, revealing a glimpse of her snow-white skin. Lanqiu frequented the gym regularly, maintaining a well-toned figure with graceful curves her waist so slender it seemed as if it could break with the slightest pressure.
Jiang Mengyu didn’t go any further; her kiss was fleeting.
“Lanqiu.” The hands that had just caressed Lanqiu’s cheeks now settled at her waist, pulling her into an embrace.
Jiang Mengyu held her gently, her voice low and husky as she murmured, “I like you so much.”
This wasn’t the first time Lanqiu had heard those words from Mengyu. Perhaps it was the lingering emotions stirred by their earlier intimacy, but Lanqiu inexplicably felt her heartbeat quicken.
She took a deep breath. “I know.”
Mengyu gazed at Lanqiu’s profile. “Do you like me?”
Lanqiu suddenly fell silent.
Did she like Jiang Mengyu?
By the time the designated driver arrived at Beiyuan, Lanqiu still hadn’t answered.
Mengyu didn’t press further. Her expression was calm and reserved, her eyes filled with tender affection as she looked at Lanqiu, as though she had never asked the question at all.
That night, Mengyu still showered in the master bedroom.
The shower in the guest room had already been fixed, but neither of them mentioned it.
Mengyu stood in front of the mirror, blow-drying her hair. She hadn’t closed the door, and the steam from the bathroom fogged up the mirror, blurring her reflection.
