- Chapter 38.1 - The Cannon Fodder Alpha Secretly in Love with the Female Lead Omega (35)
“My waist is so sore, can you massage it for me?”
Jiang Mengyu reached out and pushed Chi Jingyan’s face away, her tone icy. “I don’t have a habit of keeping pets.”
As she moved, the handcuffs on her wrist slid downward. Seeing this, Chi Jingyan leaned in again and whispered, “Then let me take the handcuffs off for you, okay?”
Jiang Mengyu didn’t respond, only stared quietly at Chi Jingyan, her eyes faintly laced with mockery.
Chi Jingyan had gone back on her word far too many times.
She was adept at baiting, always deliberately luring Jiang Mengyu into her traps.
Jiang Mengyu’s distrust was too obvious for Chi Jingyan to ignore, but she could only soften her voice and coax, “This time, I mean it.”
So this was how it felt to be doubted by someone you liked.
Chi Jingyan thought back to how she had mocked Jiang Mengyu before, and the stifling feeling in her chest grew even stronger. She rarely ever regretted anything, yet now, she was experiencing it all at once with Jiang Mengyu.
If she had known she would fall for Jiang Mengyu, Chi Jingyan swore she would have been gentler from the very beginning, at least not to the point of trapping herself in such an impossible situation.
The person before her was like a slippery block of ice, exuding a bone-chilling coldness that left Chi Jingyan at a loss for how to coax her into a better mood.
She reached out and lightly brushed her fingertips against Jiang Mengyu’s wrist. When Jiang Mengyu didn’t pull away, she slowly tightened her grip, lifting one of Jiang Mengyu’s hands and pressing her own ring finger against the back of the handcuff.
Click.
The metal cuff around Jiang Mengyu’s wrist finally loosened and, under the force of gravity, dropped onto the carpet with a dull thud.
These handcuffs had been custom-made by Chi Jingyan. She had specifically requested the inner side to be lined with soft leather to prevent friction between the metal and skin.
That was why, despite wearing them for days, Jiang Mengyu’s wrists bore no red marks.
The hand before her was slender yet strong, with neatly trimmed nails that carried a healthy flush.
A sudden thought crossed Chi Jingyan’s mind. She pressed her own hand fully against Jiang Mengyu’s, realizing that despite her own long fingers, Jiang Mengyu’s were even longer.
No wonder…
For some reason, a faint blush crept onto Chi Jingyan’s cheeks. She gazed at Jiang Mengyu for a moment before slowly resting her head on Jiang Mengyu’s shoulder. When Jiang Mengyu didn’t reject her, she lifted her arms and embraced her.
“My waist is sore too.”
Chi Jingyan guided Jiang Mengyu’s hand to her waist, her breath warm against Jiang Mengyu’s ear. “Can you massage it for me?”
Chi Jingyan had discovered that Jiang Mengyu responded better to softness than force, the more she was pressured, the more resistant she became.
It seemed she had found a way to keep Jiang Mengyu from refusing her.
But this time, Chi Jingyan was disappointed. Not only did Jiang Mengyu not comply, she pushed her away, then bent down to pick up the handcuffs from the floor.
A look of dejection crossed Chi Jingyan’s face. Seeing Jiang Mengyu rise as if to leave, she quickly straightened up and asked, “Where are you going?”
Jiang Mengyu glanced back at her, noticing that Chi Jingyan’s eyes had reddened another shade without her realizing it. From earlier until now, Chi Jingyan’s gaze hadn’t strayed from Jiang Mengyu for even a moment.
It’s said that Omegas become particularly clingy after receiving a permanent mark, constantly craving to be with their Alpha at all times.
Does the same theory apply to Alphas?
Jiang Mengyu casually placed the handcuffs on the nearby vanity table. “Secretary Zhao brought someone to examine you.”
Upon hearing this, Chi Jingyan instinctively furrowed her brows. She didn’t think there was anything wrong with her body. Besides, although she had voluntarily injected herself with a pheromone inducer last night, she hadn’t been reckless, she had carefully measured the dosage to ensure it wouldn’t cause any significant harm.
But when she lifted her eyes and met Jiang Mengyu’s dark, steady gaze, the words of refusal died on her lips.
Because she could tell this was actually Jiang Mengyu’s idea.
In the past, Chi Jingyan would have scolded Jiang Mengyu for overstepping and berated Secretary Zhao as well, after all, how dare the secretary follow Jiang Mengyu’s orders before she, the boss, had even spoken?
But now, for some reason, Chi Jingyan didn’t dare provoke Jiang Mengyu’s anger. So, even though she felt a little reluctant, she swallowed her protests. “Let them in.”
Jiang Mengyu noticed her displeasure. She turned and took two steps toward Chi Jingyan, stopping at the foot of the bed, her gaze firm as she met Chi Jingyan’s eyes.
“You’re not worried about the effects on your body now?”
It took Chi Jingyan a couple of seconds to realize Jiang Mengyu wasn’t referring to last night’s pheromone inducer, but the permanent mark she had given her.
True, back when Jiang Mengyu had only given her a temporary mark, Chi Jingyan had anxiously double-checked multiple times before barely calming down.
But now…
Chi Jingyan bit her lip, half-defiant and half-serious. “No, I’m not.”
Besides, even if there were effects, it didn’t matter.
Though her constitution might undergo some changes, it would only deepen the bond between her and Jiang Mengyu.
Jiang Mengyu would never be able to leave her so easily again.
Jiang Mengyu knew she was being stubborn. There was no way Chi Jingyan would ever accept a drop in her pheromone level or fully transforming into an Omega.
She tossed Chi Jingyan a jacket. “Put this on.”
Chi Jingyan looked down at her bare arms and legs, the faint and deep red marks stark against her skin. Even her chest bore scattered traces that disappeared beneath the curve of her nightgown.
It really seemed like Jiang Mengyu had marked her thoroughly, inside and out.
A strange sense of satisfaction bloomed in Chi Jingyan’s heart.
As she obediently dressed, she couldn’t help but ask hesitantly, “Jiang Mengyu, do you not want others to see me?”
She recalled Jiang Mengyu’s possessiveness toward her before.
No matter how indifferent Jiang Mengyu acted now, some things ingrained in one’s bones couldn’t be easily changed and Jiang Mengyu’s current behavior was proof enough.
A glimmer of hope flickered in Chi Jingyan’s eyes.
Jiang Mengyu’s expression remained unchanged. “You don’t have to wear it.”
Chi Jingyan didn’t respond. As she zipped up the jacket, she caught a faint scent, one that seemed to carry Jiang Mengyu’s pheromones.
Had it accidentally rubbed off?
After both women had freshened up, Jiang Mengyu finally opened the door. Secretary Zhao had been waiting outside for quite some time, and standing beside him was someone Jiang Mengyu knew well, Professor Chen.
She stepped aside to let them in.
Secretary Zhao nodded at Jiang Mengyu first, then immediately turned his attention to Chi Jingyan. “Young Miss, how are you feeling?”
Chi Jingyan, who had no qualms about acting spoiled or reckless in front of Jiang Mengyu, reverted to her usual haughty and composed demeanor when facing Secretary Zhao. “When did you get here?”
“Just a short while ago.”
As soon as Secretary Zhao finished speaking, he noticed Chi Jingyan’s expression darken abruptly. Instinctively, he turned to look and saw Professor Chen gazing at Jiang Mengyu with fervent intensity.
“Chen Xiang,” Chi Jingyan said expressionlessly. “What are you staring at my wife for?”
Her words instantly drew the attention of everyone in the room toward her.
Jiang Mengyu’s brows furrowed slightly, but perhaps out of consideration for the presence of outsiders, she merely gave Chi Jingyan a deep look and refrained from voicing any rebuttal.
Compared to Jiang Mengyu’s calmness, the other two were far more astonished especially Professor Chen.
Although Chi Jingyan had never shown him much respect, she had never before addressed him by his full name. Professor Chen understood clearly, this was Chi Jingyan’s warning to him.
When had their relationship developed to this point?!
A storm of shock raged in Professor Chen’s heart. He knew Chi Jingyan and Jiang Mengyu had a special relationship, but he had always assumed Chi Jingyan was just toying with her. Wasn’t it only because Jiang Mengyu’s pheromones were unique that the young miss had taken an interest in her?!
Professor Chen had been waiting for the day Chi Jingyan grew tired of Jiang Mengyu so he could take her for research.
She was potentially the world’s only suspected Enigma!
Even if she wasn’t an Enigma, Jiang Mengyu’s pheromones were one of a kind!
Professor Chen had long been burning with envy. If not for Chi Jingyan keeping such a tight watch on him, and if not for the leverage she held over him, along with the lives of his entire family, he would have already sought alliances elsewhere.
Unable to act under Chi Jingyan’s surveillance, he had no choice but to wait obediently. He had thought that day would eventually come, but now it seemed Chi Jingyan was serious about Jiang Mengyu!
Would the Chi family even allow her to be with an Alpha?!
Professor Chen’s expression was grim, but in Chi Jingyan’s presence, he dared not show it too overtly. After dutifully completing Chi Jingyan’s examination, he left under the escort of bodyguards.
Secretary Zhao remained.
Jiang Mengyu, who had been sitting on the sofa scrolling through her phone, stood up, intending to give them space.
“Don’t go,” Chi Jingyan quickly reached out and hooked her fingers around Jiang Mengyu’s.
Jiang Mengyu glanced at Secretary Zhao but said nothing her meaning was clear.
Was Chi Jingyan no longer worried about her hearing something she shouldn’t?
Chi Jingyan pulled Jiang Mengyu back down beside her, softening her voice to reassure her. “There’s nothing you can’t hear.”
To dispel Jiang Mengyu’s resentment, the first step was to let her know she was trusted.
After speaking, Chi Jingyan turned back to Secretary Zhao, her voice dropping several degrees colder. “Chen Xiang has grown too ambitious.”
Chi Jingyan’s tone was laced with sarcasm. “It seems he’s forgotten that if I hadn’t sent someone to secretly rescue him back then, he would have died in Country M long ago.”
Professor Chen had some skills, but his interpersonal abilities were lacking. A couple of years earlier, he had offended a certain big shot in Country M’s underworld and nearly got chopped into mincemeat. Chi Jingyan happened to be vacationing in Country M at the time and, upon hearing about the incident, intervened to protect him before using her connections to bring him back to the country.
