- Chapter 30.2 - The Cannon Fodder Alpha Secretly in Love with the Female Lead Omega (27)
After a moment of silent eye contact, Chu Muyao added, “You don’t have to worry about me doing anything.”
“You!”
Thinking of the Chi family’s situation, a hint of sympathy flickered in Chu Muyao’s eyes. “I hope you get what you wish for.”
Jiang Mengyu watched as Chu Muyao walked away. The female lead Omega was far more clear-headed than she had imagined. When she first read the original novel, she had thought Chu Muyao was an indecisive Omega, but after several interactions, Jiang Mengyu’s perception had gradually begun to shift.
The original novel really couldn’t be trusted.
“She’s already gone far away, and you’re still staring.”
Chi Jingyan’s voice suddenly sounded from behind. Jiang Mengyu turned to see the young lady standing not far away, arms crossed, glaring at her with displeasure.
Jiang Mengyu walked over to Chi Jingyan. “Let’s eat.”
“I’m a little hungry.”
Chi Jingyan stared at her intently. After a long pause, she finally murmured, “Aren’t you going to ask me what Chu Muyao and I talked about?”
Jiang Mengyu appeared thoughtful. Just as Chi Jingyan thought she might say something, Jiang Mengyu suddenly reached out, wrapped an arm around her waist, and pulled her into an embrace. Then, she lowered her head to lightly sniff at Chi Jingyan’s neck, as if carefully confirming something.
“No trace of her scent.”
After saying this, Jiang Mengyu rewarded her with a kiss on the earlobe.
Of course not!
Chi Jingyan’s cheeks flushed involuntarily, her earlobes tinged with a faint pink.
She didn’t dwell on Jiang Mengyu’s attitude, in fact, a subtle sense of pleasure rose in her heart.
But soon, Chi Jingyan’s smile froze. With a dark expression, she grabbed the front of Jiang Mengyu’s clothes and mimicked her earlier actions, sniffing carefully around her neck.
Jiang Mengyu let her do as she pleased. She watched as Chi Jingyan’s expression quickly turned stormy, like an overturned palette, pale with fury yet tinged with angry red.
“Who did you just meet?” Chi Jingyan demanded.
Her gaze was icy, as if staring at a cheating wife eyes burning with rage, yet forced to suppress the fury within.
Jiang Mengyu answered honestly, “Chi Jia.”
A cold laugh escaped Chi Jingyan’s throat. “I knew it.”
Her tone was laced with barely restrained anger.
“What did she say to you?”
Jiang Mengyu gazed deeply into Chi Jingyan’s eyes. “She asked me when you saved me.”
The fire in Chi Jingyan’s heart was instantly doused, replaced by endless panic. For a fleeting moment, her expression flickered with unease so quick it was nearly imperceptible.
“And then?” Chi Jingyan forced her emotions down and asked calmly, “Did you tell her?”
Jiang Mengyu shook her head, “This is a private matter between us. There’s no need to involve outsiders.”
Chi Jingyan heaved a heavy sigh of relief in her heart, but she still couldn’t fully relax. Knowing Chi Jia as she did, the other party definitely wouldn’t let this go easily.
Chi Jingyan understood that if she didn’t resolve this issue soon, Jiang Mengyu would inevitably learn the truth one day.
…
That afternoon after school, Chi Jingyan didn’t return to the apartment with Jiang Mengyu.
“I have some business at the company. You go ahead first.”
It had been the same last time, so Jiang Mengyu didn’t say anything.
She simply reached out to adjust Chi Jingyan’s coat and said softly, “I’ll wait for you.”
“Come back early.”
Chi Jingyan nodded, ignoring the sudden unease that welled up in her heart, and rolled up the car window under Jiang Mengyu’s gaze.
In truth, there was no other business today. Chi Jingyan had some personal matters she wanted to discuss with Secretary Zhao.
By the time she arrived at the company, Secretary Zhao was already waiting for her in the office.
Chi Jingyan pushed open the door and saw him rise from the sofa. Without any pleasantries, she got straight to the point: “Did you find anything?”
Secretary Zhao shook his head and handed her the documents in his hand. “As per your instructions, our team conducted a thorough investigation, but we haven’t found any evidence of the situation you mentioned yet.”
They were facing the same challenge as Chi Jia, the area where Jiang Mengyu lived was too chaotic, with insufficient surveillance coverage. Moreover, since Chi Jingyan couldn’t provide an exact time frame, they could only proceed with a slow and methodical search.
“Then keep looking,” Chi Jingyan said. Suddenly, she glanced up at Secretary Zhao and added, “I have one condition.”
Secretary Zhao straightened up. “Please go on.”
“No matter who the person turns out to be in the end…”
Chi Jingyan’s tone was firm. “That person can only be me. Understood?”
Secretary Zhao immediately grasped her meaning. They could continue investigating the true identity of the savior, but for now, the priority was to fabricate evidence proving that the young mistress had saved Jiang Mengyu.
“Rest assured,” Secretary Zhao nodded.
Noticing Chi Jingyan’s still-grim expression, Secretary Zhao hesitated, as if wanting to say something, but ultimately swallowed his words.
He had sensed Chi Jingyan’s unusual interest in Jiang Mengyu before, but at the time, he thought she was just playing around.
Now, however, it seemed the young mistress was taking things seriously.
Chi Jingyan wasn’t oblivious to Secretary Zhao’s hesitation, but she trusted him to know what should and shouldn’t be said.
True to her expectations, Secretary Zhao didn’t deliberately provoke her.
He merely hinted cautiously, “As for the old master…”
“Keep it from him for now,” Chi Jingyan rubbed her temples. “For as long as possible.”
“And Chi Jia, she’s probably got too much free time lately. Find something to keep her busy.”
To stop her from constantly fixating on Jiang Mengyu.
Chi Jingyan couldn’t help but grit her teeth, cursing inwardly: Flirt!
By the time Chi Jingyan got home, it was almost eight o’clock.
She had expected to see Jiang Mengyu in the living room, but the apartment was eerily quiet, without a single sound.
Where was Jiang Mengyu?
Chi Jingyan looked down at her phone. The last message between them was her telling Jiang Mengyu to eat first and not wait for her.
Chi Jingyan put away her phone and first checked the guest bedroom, but there was still no sign of Jiang Mengyu.
Could she be in the study?
Frowning, Chi Jingyan pushed open the study door, only to find it completely dark inside.
Where on earth had Jiang Mengyu gone?!
Just as Chi Jingyan was about to lose her temper, something occurred to her, and she turned her gaze toward the master bedroom.
She instinctively felt it was unlikely, but she still wanted to double-check. The moment she pushed open the master bedroom door, an overwhelming scent of jasmine enveloped her.
The room remained unlit, but the faint outline of a figure was clearly visible beneath the covers. Moreover, the excessive concentration of pheromones in the air told her everything she needed to know.
Chi Jingyan reflexively closed the door behind her and turned on the overhead light. The warm glow illuminated the entire room, revealing the scene before her in stark clarity.
The large bed was a complete mess, strewn with clothes in disarray. Upon closer inspection, Chi Jingyan realized they were all her own.
And there, curled up amidst the pile of clothes, was Jiang Mengyu. She lay with her back to the door, making it impossible for Chi Jingyan to see her expression. But Jiang Mengyu’s actions alone spoke volumes about what was happening.
Some partnered Alphas exhibited nesting behavior during their rut.
This behavior often stemmed from an Alpha’s insecurity, when their mate wasn’t around, they would instinctively gather items carrying their mate’s scent to soothe their inner turmoil and anxiety.
Jiang Mengyu always carried herself with such calm composure that Chi Jingyan never imagined she’d do something like this. Yet, it also meant Jiang Mengyu truly longed for her comfort.
The thick jasmine scent filling the room coaxed Chi Jingyan into releasing her own pheromones. A smile tugged at her lips as she walked toward Jiang Mengyu. Just as she reached the bedside, Jiang Mengyu opened her eyes.
Those usually deep, dark eyes were now glistening with moisture, the corners tinged with a flush. She stared straight at Chi Jingyan, her voice soft and hoarse when she spoke.
“Ah Yan, you’re back.”
Chi Jingyan wasn’t sure if it was her imagination, but she thought she detected a hint of grievance in Jiang Mengyu’s voice.
This was the first time she’d seen Jiang Mengyu like this like a puppy drenched by rain, trembling ears and tail, pitifully begging for comfort.
Unable to resist, Chi Jingyan reached out to touch Jiang Mengyu’s forehead.
So hot.
Before she could pull her hand back, Jiang Mengyu grabbed her wrist. The Alpha, lost in the throes of her rut, pressed her feverish cheek against the back of Chi Jingyan’s hand, letting out a soft, contented sigh as her eyes fluttered shut.
Chi Jingyan felt as though she’d been infected too that sigh sent a shiver down to the tips of her ears. She took an unsteady breath and, with rare patience, coaxed, “Let go first.”
But Jiang Mengyu wasn’t listening.
Slowly tilting her head, she kissed Chi Jingyan’s hand, her hazy eyes never leaving her. The sight made Chi Jingyan’s heart pound so hard it threatened to leap out of her chest.
Who would’ve thought this mad dog Jiang Mengyu could be so fragile and clingy?
Chi Jingyan was lost in thought when suddenly, a warm, damp sensation brushed against her fingertips. Startled as if shocked by electricity, she jerked her hand back abruptly.
She withdrew too quickly Jiang Mengyu clearly hadn’t reacted yet. When Chi Jingyan widened her eyes to look, she could even make out the soft, pink tip of the other’s tongue, still lingering between slightly parted lips, not yet retracted.
